Very Nice Reception, Problems with Rotation

I didn’t ‘measure’ signals, rather I tried this antenna against a number of over the air channels that I am familiar with to check clarity. Compared to a more expensive antenna this one worked much better. I did do several new scans using a Samsung TV with built in converter. I am somewhat remote as most channels are beaming from a bigger city which is over 50 miles away. If you use this antenna in a more urban area versus suburban area, I believe you will find it is even better. Now the sketchy part of this unit is the rotation capability. The engineers I see tried to minimize cost and probably went too far. I say this because the rotational response is inconsistent. It will rotate using either the remote or the on-board switch. There is an LED light that turns green to show the antenna is rotating but often the antenna is not moving even though you press the button and the light is green. If you lift off and retry the switch, it will ‘probably’ start the antenna moving again. Also the left button on the remote may turn the antenna clockwise or counter-clockwise, the right button also does this; which is a little frustrating. If you need to move the antenna as you view different stations, then you would require a line of sight to the antenna or you won’t know what it is doing. Possibly my unit is defective relative to the rotation of the antenna feature. I did see that you must have the base unit turned on to engage the amplification of the signals. Note that you can receive some channels with the unit off or on; but it is an advantage to ensure the unit is on. I messed this up a little since I initially thought the unit needed to be on only to rotate the antenna. I recommend this unit if you are within 50 miles of your stations. Also you will need a line of sight to the antenna or the rotation ability is of little value. The antenna did impress me as to its ability to receive many stations clearly.

Poor quality

Good performance but feels cheap

The cheap feel starts as soon as you open the box. Nothing about this antenna feels high quality from the start. The main dish of the antenna is the worst. It has the cheapest feeling plastic that does not feel like it will last even one central Texas summer. Luckily, you have to option to mount it indoors in an attic, so that is the option I went with. Continuing the cheap feel, is the little control box that it plugs into. I know it doesn't actually do much, but they could've made it feel a little nicer. As is, is feel like an empty plastic box with an LED inside. Overall lets just say it's a good thing this is going to be out of sight, because it's really just the cheapest feeling and looking thing. Surprisingly, I was very impressed by it's actual performance. It says it has 100 mile range, and that's no joke. I live in Austin, and I was easily able to pick up San Antonio stations, and clearly I might add. I didn't even have to point it south either, I was able to point it North toward all the Austin broadcasting stations, and I was still picking up a handful of San Antonio stations. All which came in perfectly clear enough to watch comfortably. I shouldn't even have to mention that my local channels came in crystal clear with no pixelation or anything. And it even picked up many sub-channels I had no idea were even available in my area. In conclusion, it's not much to look at, and has a very cheap feel to it. It probably won't last very long outside even though it's marketed as an outdoor antenna. However, it excels at performance. It picks up all the stations you'd expect, and probably many more you wouldn't.

Good reception for a small antenna
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like watching my local broadcast channels especially when that is the only TV that’s doesn’t incur a monthly charge. The Core Innovations - Amplified HDTV Outdoor/Attic Antenna is so small and sharp looking that my wife will even let me keep it. The channels I have been able to receive are those up to 60 miles away. I haven’t been able to get some channels that are 70 miles away but I am not able to mount the antenna on top of my house. If I could I would probably be able to receive all 32 of my local channels. All of the channels I was able to receive have good signal strength. The amazing thing is that I didn’t have to rotate the antenna at all using the included motorized rotor and still picked up most of my channels. The remote for the motorized rotor is a nice inclusion. Overall this is a nice looking dish antenna that is small that actually works. Everything you need to install it is included in the box unless you need a cable longer than 25 feet.

Not quite close enough to cut the cord!

My first impression was this packaging could use an upgrade! I thought I had received a bunch of junk. Minus one star for the packaging. The set-up was quick and easy. All parts were in the box. I mounted to the roof of my house and pointed in the direction of the nearest metro city. I live exactly 90 miles from the closest metro city and about 50 miles from 3 smaller cities with TV stations. This antenna works great with the smaller distances, but not so great with the 90-mile distance. I guess if I mounted it on a 50 ft pole I would get better reception. Overall I would recommend.
