Considering the comments by others, when this stand arrived I carefully unpacked it. I feel that the factory in China did a reasonable job of preparing the stand for shipment and my copy did not experience any transit-related problems. I decided to protect the finish from chipping by spraying two coats of clear polyurethane on each piece (except the undersides of the top and bottom panels). Also, I glued the16 dowel pins into their holes in the four wing panels using a strong wood glue. Technically not required, but makes for a better result, as most who have assembled "flat pack" furniture probably would agree.
Once all the panels dried, it went together with no fuss or alignment issues. There are no exposed edges that reveal the nature of the (sawdust/chips + glue) composition board lying beneath the veneer. The trim caps on the 12 locking pieces did need to be glued into place; otherwise most of them would not have held. A dab of epoxy or automotive weatherstrip adhesive worked out well. The polyurethane added about $22 to the cost (two cans, from Home Depot) but I feel the added protection was well worth the expense. Were I to do it again, I likely would have purchased semi-gloss rather than full gloss.

I bought this product last week when it went on clearence for $62.00. Pretty great deal. I bought it thinking it would be able to accomadiate my 65 inch flat screen tv. I was WRONG! The tables width is 58 inches.,. so my tv extends outward because the tv stand is small!
Since I already built the stand and threw away the box, Im not able to go back and return it, so I can get a stand that better holds my tv. So my advice for any potential buyers is that if your tv is less then 60 inches then this stand is perfect for you. If your tv is bigger then 60 inches than I would recommend you get a different stand.

I looked in a Best Buy store at their TV stands, having already browsed the website. After asking an employee if they carried similar products, they didn't have much at the same price point. After looking at this product online, the employee commented, "Oh this looks much nicer than anything we have here at that price!" It was pretty easy to put together and looks really good!

Took me 1/2 hour to get the parts out of the box because it was so well packaged. I never imagined anything that well packaged would be damaged, but half of the parts had the edges chipped off. Makes me wonder if the pieces were like that WHEN they were packaged. After struggling to get it out of the package, I was not about to return it. Guess I'll just touch up with black paint.
