Customers are saying

Customers are satisfied with the HS45 SURROUND Wired Stereo Gaming Headset's sound quality and comfort. Many appreciate its lightweight design, detachable microphone, and reasonable price. While some users found the bass response lacking or excessive depending on their preference, and others noted minor software or volume-related issues, the positive feedback on sound, comfort, and price outweighs the negative. The headset's compatibility with multiple devices is also a frequently cited advantage.

Nice looking headset, but way too quiet on the mic. My guildies on Warcraft can barely hear me even though I have my mic and all outputs maxed out.

    Nice entry level gaming headset!

The Corsair HS45 surround headset is a very nice, entry-level gaming headset. It is comfortable and not too heavy, with some good basic features to it that will suit most gamers. However, If you’re looking for features beyond the basics you’ll probably want to move up in price a bit. First, the headset is packaged well, with a couple of adapters and the plug-in microphone, and very basic instructions (with the usual caveat of downloading the full instructions on the website). They are essentially ‘plug and play’ on consoles or the computer, though on a PC you can download a more robust control set. As mentioned, the features included are very, very basic, but are good enough for most gamers. The 7.1 surround is actually more robust than many headphones in this price range. They sound very good, and the directional sounds are really accurate. I tested these on three different systems (PC, Xbox and PS4) and had good results with all, though the PC did sound and perform slightly better thanks to the additional software. I tried them with Overwatch and Fortnight and was really impressed with how well the directional sound worked. The surround worked as well as any headphones I’ve used. The microphone is detachable to protect it during travel. Being entry-level the sound wasn’t particularly sensitive or crisp, but the people I was communicating with had no trouble understanding me, and that’s the most important thing. There are a few drawbacks due to it being entry level, but they’re mostly ‘bells and whistles’ related. The only major drawback is that the cord that plugs into the system isn’t removable, and in my experience that’s the most easily damaged part of the headset. There are lighter sets, sets with ‘softer’ cushions, sets that light up in fancy ways, sets where you can tweak the sound to be exactly what you want in both input and output, but those all cost more than this set does. If you’re looking for a good, relatively inexpensive gaming headset that gets the job done then you’ll be happy with the Corsair HS45.

Great on the PC, just OK on game consoles

Lots of headphones claim to provide surround sound but few can boast the kind of sonic magic managed by the Corsair HS45, a least when when listening to certain content. You have to jump through some hoops to get there, since surround mode only works on a PC and and you must download special software and use the a special USB attachment (included) to realize the headphones' full potential. But once all that is in place, the sound quality is amazingly good, especially in 7.1 surround mode. (Plain old stereo is supported but does not sound as good.) The depth and clarity and separation provided by this surround sound process was beyond my expectations for headphones that are so modestly priced. Be aware, however, you will NOT get this souped up sound quality if you are simply plugging the headphones into your game console controller. In that mode, these thing are OK. About on par with similar priced headphones that plug into controllers. Adequate but unremarkable. The game console is where I first used these headphones and I was not overly impressed, initially. Which is perhaps why I was surprised by how much better they sounded once I hooked them up to my PC.... at least when listening like music. What about PC gaming? I am not sure because my computer lacks the horsepower for most PC games. But there are presets for a big collection of current games. As for movies, streaming via the PC: The sound quality was quite good but not the not as good as they sound with music. Which is a little surprising since these are sold as gaming headphones. Go figure. For generic content, the iCue software package offers a bunch of EQ presets from "Pure Direct" to "Movie Theater" to "Bass Boost." I liked the Movie Theater mode best since it boosted the low and mid-range frequencies. Very solid sound. But you can also create your own EQ settings. As for the overall ergonomics of the headphones, they are , again, adequate but unremarkable. Mostly black plastic construction (or "carbon" as the Corsair calls it) with soft nylon mesh covering the cups for the ears and a nice cushy pad on top adjustable band which rests on your head. Comfortable but not the most comfortable headphones I have ever used. And if you wear glasses, as I do, there is a good bit rub- squeak from the ear pads on certain frames. A detachable boom mic, with end-to-end flexibility, plugs into the left ear cup (or you can leave it off if you are not into the kind of gaming that requires it.) Unlike most other gaming headphones, the controls are on the headphones themselves, not on the cord that plugs into the controller or PC. A wheel type volume control and on/off button for the mic are on the left ear piece. The cord that plugs into the PC or game console controller is an extra long, six feet. Great for the PC, which may be some distance away, but all that extra cord t just gets in the way when using a gaming console controller. Overall, though, these are good headphones for the money, providing decent (sometimes excellent) sound at a good price.

I bought them because all of my work accessories are from this brand. This were advertised as noise cancelling headset. People on the other end could hear my every move. They are horrible quality. I would not recommend. I even bought two hoping the first one was faulty.

I think that this product has the potential to be great for the price. I have only used it on my computer though so far. The reason that this product is only getting 2 stars is because I have yet to get the microphone to work at all. I have tried many different things and would love to hear some suggestions on how to get it working...
