I love learning and the Cosmos series does a very good job at an introduction to many scientific principles. As an educational tool, it would have been great if it included more languages, spoken not just subtitled. And when it comes down to appreciating the celestial skies a UHD version would have been more appropriate rather than a Blu-Ray version. I believe they are working a Cosmos 2 which would be great if they continued if other concepts.

Cosmos has stood the test of time, it seems even more relevant now than when it was first released. And although it is blu ray it looked as good as 4k on my new top of the line 75" TV!

The *hopeful* future of educational programming

Watching the news, It undeniable that we live in a world that elevates ignorance and intolerance. I can't begin to express how much this type of educational broadcasting is sorely needed in our society. Especially one that caters to the young and the old. Allow me to preface by saying I consider myself an avid reader and at least somewhat proficient in matters regarding the physical universe. However, this show blows my mind! I truly appreciate the steps taken to present the subject material in an "easy to understand" approach that appeals to all ages. The host, Neil D. Tyson, a well-known astrophysicist whose personal appreciation and dedication to the expansion of science is clearly seen in several episodes. As a caveat, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there are a couple of occasions where the host is critical of religion and its undeniable involvement in the history of some of humanities greatest scientific achievements. Personally, I applaud their efforts. Coming from a former religious background, I understand only too well the tactics generally used to discredit or deny the legitimacy of ideas that contradict the established theocracy. In short, I highly recommend this series. A huge Thank You to Tyson, MacFarlane, Druyan, of course Sagan, and everyone else who strives toward a better, more educated future for those who come ahead.

Some of the things hydrogen atoms do...

I have been a fan of Carl Sagan's Cosmos since I was a child and it first aired back in 1980. His breezy, confident, yet humble presentation about the entire scientific enterprise and how we got to where we are asking questions about the world around us was both inspiring and clear to anyone who was willing to listen. He made it okay to not have all the answers , but never to be fearful of asking the questions, no matter where they may lead. I was initially skeptical of hearing of a remake to the series, despite the fact that two of the three main writers, Ann Druyan and Stephen Soter, were going to be attached to the project. But I think that Carl's original labor of love is in very capable hands with Neil deGrasse-Tyson. Tyson possesses the same sense of humbled wonder for the universe, and his excitement for both what we already know about it and what we have yet to learn is infectious. He was definitely made for this moment. And unless you think the universe is 6000 years old, I cannot think of a better way to engage with the evolution of a universe than to partake of Tyson's presentation of where we are now. To paraphrase a great man, watching this show is one of the things that hydrogen atoms do, given (now 13.8 billion) years of cosmic evolution--startstuff interrogating starstuff, learning about its own creation and place in the universe.

When Carl Sagan first filmed "Cosmos" back in 1980, the idea was for this to be a recurring narrative, as science is always exploring, and evolving. In an interview in 1989 Sagan commented how already some of what they had spoke about only 9 years earlier were now obsolete with new scientific understanding. 2016 Neil deGrasse Tyson picked up the reins beautifully. Let's hope the next installments come much sooner than 2051

I must say that i have been a huge fan of this series since i first heard of it after the news was released by Dr. Tyson on his radio show two years ago. So this review might have some bias.... Anyways, the science is well explained. the visuals are the most beautiful things in the world, and its a true shame that it only ran for one season. I recommend you buy this, especially when its on sale. Check out the older series too, while Carl Sagan may have the most monotone voice in the world, and you will fall asleep thousands of times over the course of watching that series. it is worth a watch. Have a good one!

Neil deGrasse Tyson has been one of my favorite hosts since watching NOVA Science NOW on PBS and for him to present the Cosmos was brilliant. I'm 26 and had stored away in a cob webbed corner of my mind all of this great scientific knowledge that I learned back in Jr High and High School and was fascinated as much to relearn all of that amazing science that I had forgotten over the years. Is the information vital to my job...No. But do I want to know it...YES! and this amazing documentary allows me to refresh my baseline knowledge of the broad field of science in a entertaining and relaxing way.

My son enjoys science documentaries, especially those about the workings of the universe. He would watch the clock on Sunday nights waiting for this program to come on. Although Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson occasionally over-simplifies and can get overly-enthusiastic at times, it is still quite educational. The animation and cinematography are great. Anything that gets kids excited about the sciences is a good thing, especially if it's something the adults can enjoy also, and I even learned a new thing or two myself. Definitely worth a watch, especially for those with kids.

The new Cosmos series stood up to the original version and surpassed it. Ann Druyan it brilliant and Neil DeGrass Tyson delivers a mesmerizing performance. The flashbacks are pieces of art unto themselves, and I found myself looking forward to the next one. I recommend this to every human on the planet as all the information within provides very important lessons about our past to improve our future. Information which all scientists would encourage you verify yourself, and then push you to learn some more.

The Cosmos is the best documentary I have seen (and I have seen a lot) on astronomy. What makes it great is the fact that not only does it go into the foundations of astronomy but also the historical discoveries and the individuals who contributed to the science. I am a history lover so the mix of Astronomy and history gave me a far deeper appreciation for the subject. Neil Degrasse is an excellent narrator. To top it off, the graphics were just outstanding.

I remember watching Cosmos as a pre-teen during the very early 80s. Neil Tyson Degrasse hosts a wonderful update on a classic science show. The child astronomer in me was impressed with the CGI visuals and the adult in me appreciated the everyman terms that the hosts uses to explain the difficult to explain. Recommended for adults and kids with even a passing interest in astronomy

I love that they made a sequel to the awesome original Cosmos series by Carl Sagan. The animations were excellent, they told the stories better than trying to do them with actors. The scientific concepts they dealt with gave us an excellent overview of who we are and how we got here. They also paid great tribute to Carl Sagan. I hope that they'll do another season of the new Cosmos!

I remember the early shows of the 1970s and 1980s that portrayed and educated me about outer space and beyond. This collection did an excellent job of sparking that same excitement but with updated graphics and a new perspective from a new host/narrator. At a minimum this would serve well as an inspiration to many new and aspiring young astronomers.

When I first heard that there was going to be a reboot of Cosmos, I couldn't hide my excitement. Tyson is the perfect person to host the program and he brings a respectability and personality that if incredibly rare. I watched the program when it first aired and I knew that I had to own it on Blu Ray. If you have a thirst for knowledge, I highly recommend this series!

It's hard to come close to the original "Cosmos" with Carl Sagan but this is a great series to bring it into the modern age. Neil deGrasse Tyson excels as host of this ground-breaking series and guides the viewer through the past, present, and future of our great Cosmos. This is a must for anyone into science history and the pursuit of knowledge.

This series is a reboot of Carl Sagan's Cosmos from several decades ago. This version is hosted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who is a phenomenal host. His wealth of knowledge shines through during this series. The information conveyed is very well-explained and the series is engaging, even as it offers up in-depth scientific exposes and theories.
