I received the Crazy Cap 2 at no cost for an honest review.
First and foremost, it's important to understand what this device is:
It is a bottle with a cap that has a UV light that illuminates and kills 99.999 percent of bacteria and viruses.
It works because this type of UV light alters the genetic material in bacteria and viruses, and renders them dead.
What does it NOT do?
This device does NOT remove odors, sediment, hardness, minerals, and does not include any sort of filtration.
With that being said,
The Cap charges through a USB cable and can also be used to illuminate any surface (not skin) and kill bacteria and viruses on them, by slowly shining the UV throughout whatever it is you are sterilizing. For example, you could take the cap and turn it on, and slowly hover it over your phone to kill bacteria and viruses.
The bottle holds 17oz/500ml, and is of aluminum. The Cap is also aluminum.
The Crazy Cap 2 is not dishwasher safe, and the warning label on it says "content temperature must not exceed 130 deg F"
Basically, don't try to boil water in the cap and you should be ok. Also, don't pour scolding tea inside of it.
What does this do?
It allows you to remove microbes from water and ensure you don't get some bad water poisoning via a bacteria/microbe/virus.
This will not lower your water hardness, and it will not alter taste, so keep that in mind in case you're taking it hiking and plan to drink from a natural water source. However, for survival purposes, it's practical.
The cap has different LED colors to indicate its charge level, so that was a handy feature.
I used the cap multiple times in one day, stored it for 5 days or so, and then the battery needed to be recharged.
I think this device performs well (though I wasn't able to test the virus levels or any real "before and after" tests), but I am going by what I know about UV lights and their effect on water.
On those grounds, this is a practical bottle/cap, I think it has potential to do even more, and I commend CrazyCap for designing something that can ultimately save lives.
I would characterize the CrazyCap 2 as more of a supplemental device along with some sort of filtration, to provide safe and good-tasting, sediment-free water. I wish it did have more features along those lines, but I do understand the costs associated with increasing features.
I do recommend it, though please be informed of its capabilities and limitations when it comes to potable water.

My new go to bottle

Love my new crazy cap bottle. At first I was disappointed in the size as the bottle I usually use was bigger. Quickly I realized this size was perfect as I have increased my water intake as the bottle is not intimidating as opposed to what I used prior.
Packaging is excellent. Opened the canister packaging it came in to find the bottle wrapped in a canvas type bag which was a nice plus and added to the presentation.
Cap did not come charged so I plugged it in to charge it up which didn’t take long.
At first I thought it was a push button and nothing would happen when I pressed the button but I quickly realized all that was needed was a light touch. Tap lightly twice for a one minute purification or tap five time for what they call Crazy mode which purifies with UV light for two minutes.
I prefer using the crazy mode since I don’t trust the water in my area. Using Crazy mode does decrease battery life faster but I did get a couple of days use before I had to recharge which was not an issue.
I tested to see if there would be any leaks when turned upside down. No issues there and the cap appears to be pretty solid.
Overall I am very happy with crazy cap. I am drinking more water and feel like I am safer using the purification process. Now I need to get one for my wife because she keeps threatening to steal my bottle.

Pretty Cool Bottle/Cap

First off, let me say that this is a pretty cool device. Its packaging was attractive and secure yet still simple to open. Anyone who has ever had a Christmas morning trying to un-package some kids' toys knows exactly what a frustrating challenge that can be sometimes. Not here. A couple simple slices to the plastic tabs and the top popped right off.
Inside you'll find the bottle, purifying cap, charger, instructions, extra gaskets and a cloth carry bag.
The bottle itself is very "pretty" according to my wife and daughter. I have no complaints but I am not nearly as aesthetically keyed in as those two are.
Operation was simple. Pop the charger on the cap and it charged in 20 minutes or so. It did come with some charge already in the cap. Tap the top twice and it does the normal cycle for about a minute, tap it 5 times and it does its deep cycle for about 2.5 minutes. Easy money.
As for efficacy... I really don't know. We live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains so our water is about as good as it gets right out of the tap. I am curious to see how it will fair this summer when we're relying on local water from various RV campgrounds around the country. My wife is a medical professional and they use the same technology in her day to day medical care of patients so I have no reason to believe that it does not work as advertised.
The one area for improvement is pretty simple and admittedly one could accuse me of nitpicking, but I do wish the cloth pouch had a couple exterior pockets to hold the charger and spare gaskets. Not a deal breaker, just a nice to have.
In all, pretty slick unit and I would recommend it to a friend.

I couldn't wait to open my CrazyCap 2 sterilization bottle. After watching a video showing how versatile the cap actually is, and the sterilization that it can do in just one minute for regular tap water and 2.5 mins for lake/pond water, I was really impressed.
Opening the package, it contains the water bottle (you don't have to just use it for water), the CrazyCap 2 cap, a carrying bag, a USB charging cable, isopropyl wipes to clean the neck of the bottle, and instructions/quick start guide.
The cap did not come charged, so I plugged it in right away and it took about 2 hours to charge. CrazyCap tout that you can do 5 sterilizations a day, 5 days a week on one charge, using the 'Normal' setting, less if you use 'Crazy Mode'.
The cap is simple to use, once charged, screw it on the bottle (after filling with water), tap the touch sensitive button once to check battery charge, twice to initiate 'Normal' sterilization, or tap 5 times to initiate 'Crazy Mode'.
Normal Mode sterilizes for 1 minute, using the UV-C LED housed inside the lid (Do not look directly into the light). The Crazy Mode sterilizes for 2.5 minutes. Both modes sterilize with a blue pulsing LED ring on top for the duration, and then a green ring pulses once when complete. It's recommended that you agitate the water gently in the bottle to completely sterilize it.
CrazyCap 2 claims to achieve a 99.999% sterilization in Crazy Mode.
I used regular tap water, filled up the bottle and took a taste. It had a chalky, slightly chlorine taste to it. After using Crazy Mode, I took another taste of water and it definitely tasted different. It was notably less chalky, and the chlorine taste had diminished, although the help section of the instructions does state 'Deep UV sterilization technology only eliminates microbial contaminants, not chemicals or particulates. Chemical and particulate matter needs to be filtered separately before sterilization'.
CrazyCap 2 can also be used away from the bottle, to sterilize other items. You can turn it on, in either mode (Normal or Crazy) and sterilize your mouse, keyboard, phone, cutlery at a restaurant etc, by tapping the button twice, or 5 times, and running the UV-C light over the surface. Very handy if you wanted to make sure everything is germ free!
You cannot put the CrazyCap in the dishwasher, but it does come with a 1 year warranty, and the UV-C LED is designed to last up to 10 years. The sterilization process is chemical-free. Purely done via UV-C light.
The bottle can hold hot and cold liquids, it will keep cold contents cold for 24 hours and will keep hot contents hot for 12 hours.
Overall, I'm impressed with the technology, the design, the style and the functionality of the product, especially because you can use it away from the bottle and sterilize other things beside just the liquid contained within.
My only issue with the CrazyCap 2 was that the battery life didn't seem to meet the specs set out by CrazyCap. I filtered 2 bottles of water (one in Normal Mode, one in Crazy Mode), floated over my mouse in Normal Mode and my keyboard in Crazy Mode, and the battery life indicator turned orange, denoting 25-50% battery life. The following day, I filtered two more bottles of water and the CrazyCap maintained it's orange light.
So my concern is that it won't last quite as long as suggested, but it isn't a deal breaker, as the USB charging cap is convenient and easy to use.
Definitely an interesting and useful product!

Great Water Bottle with UV Sanitizing

I'm loving the CrazyCap 2! The bottle is a vacuum insulated stainless steel bottle that holds 17oz of liquid. It keeps hot things hot for 12 hours and cold things cold for 24 hours. Of course what really sets the CrazyCap 2 apart is the technologically advanced cap that includes a Deep Ultra Violet light that will kill up to 99.999% of bacteria that could cause odors, make you sick, or just shouldn't be in your drinking water. The cap has a capacitive touch button on the top, right in the middle. It's very easy to touch but also recessed just enough in the top of the cap so that you're not touching it accidentally all the time. Everything about the CrazyCap 2 screams quality - the packaging, the fabric draw-string bag to hold the bottle, the glowing LED indicator ring, the spare seals, and even the fact that it includes alcohol wipes to clean the mouth piece. I love the marble design of mine too!
Simple One Button Operation
The touch based button on top is used to see the battery life or to sanitize the water. Tap it once to see a glowing ring tell you the battery life remaining 0-25% (red), 25-50%(orange), or 50-100% (green). Tap it twice to start the regular sanitizing mode which runs for 1 minute. Tap it 5 times to start the Crazy mode which runs for 2.5 minutes. The first setting for tap water or maybe water from a water fountain. The second is for water you get from a stream or a pond. On top of the two sanitizing modes the light will run for 20 seconds every 4 hours just to keep anything from growing in there. Do keep in mind the water should be clear of debris. This will not clean the water, it kills germs and bacteria. The ring on the top will light up blue when it's sanitizing and then green when it's done. Not only does this sanitize water but you can use the cap to sanitize other surfaces like a keyboard or a phone. The CrazyCap 2 is a standard size so you can use it on other water bottles too! They claim you can get 500,000 bottles of clean water from one of these over its lifetime.
Battery life
The battery is supposed to be good for a week of use on a charge. Based on my use so far a week on a charge is a good claim. The USB charger plugs into any standard USB type A port to charge. The charger then slides over the cap and you can easily see the LED indicator through the top of the charger to see that it's charging and when it's done.
What I love
- Keeps my water cold down to the last drop!
- Easy to use
- Rechargeable battery
- I can use it to sanitize my phone and computer keyboard as well as other things
What I don't love
- There is no built-in handle, but the included bag helps take care of that problem

This is total science fiction! It arrives in a slick tube package with a carry pouch. Looks like a normal water bottle but there a charger included. Plug it in and the ring indicates the level of battery left. One charge lasts several days of cleaning. Put the lid on any cola bottle style water bottle, including the one it comes with. I tried it on two of mine and it fit both perfectly. Tap twice to sanitize normal tap water or to keep the bottle clean. Tap five times to do a two cycle deep clean for stream or creek water. If you can see through the water, it will work! The technology is well explained on the web s. I was fascinated by it and will be purchasing these for holiday presents for most everyone this year!!

To be honest I am not sure if this thing works or not. I am trusting the UV-C technology when it comes to it's effectiveness.
This was purchased to be my traveling water bottle. If the temperature in the car rises I can only imagine that bacteria in the water begins to grow. Not to mention killing the bacteria from an improperly maintained water fountain.
My complaint centers around the fact that this water bottle does not come with a loop or hook by which to carry it easily. I ordered a hook from CrazyCaps...which is backordered....hmmm

Light weight solution for “clean” water

If you are concerned about your drinking water this is a nice portable solution and recommend, with a couple of caveats.
Comes with about 2-foot-long USB charger for the UV sterilization cap (no brick to plug directly into AC outlet). The 17 oz. 304 stainless steel water bottle is nice looking and is very slim making it easy to fit in most cupholders. Also included is a cloth carrying “case” and appears all packaging is recyclable.
Once UV cap is charged you just fill the bottle, put cap on, press twice for normal 1-minute sterilization or 5 times for 2.5-minute “crazy mode sterilization. While sterilization is in progress the top glows blue until completed. It is suggested you swirl the bottle while sterilizing to make sure all the water has been treated. To check caps charge press top once and it will glow either green (charged) or orange (needing charged).
I didn’t know these types of products existed as I am not an outdoors/camping type individual. In looking at CrazyCaps website it states it can make any water safe to drink. I only tested using our tap water and water from our reverse osmosis. We happen to have a TDS EZ to test our water quality. Using tap water (have water softener) we had 400 TDS and after using UV normal sterilization water it registered 350 and definitely tasted better. Using water from our reverse osmosis we started at 15 TDS and after normal sterilization it registered 14, so not as much affect but still tasted better. To be fair this is not marketed for TDS but thought I would include.
Bottle keeps water cold for hours and hours.
UV sterilization cap can be used to clean your phone, toothbrush, etc.
Lifetime warranty and is FDA approved.
The only issues I have are;
The bottle fill opening is pretty small and can make it difficult to fill. This also makes it very difficult to clean so I don’t think I would use it for anything but water.
While it’s nice that cap can be used to clean your phone, etc., the UV light is invisible. This makes it very difficult to make sure you cover all the surface of item you are cleaning.
Over all I would recommend this anyone concerned about the quality of your drinking water.

Before I begin, the major feature of this product is that it uses a type of UV light to sterilize water, or anything else you aim the light against. While this is a known technology, the average consumer does not have the proper equipment to test the effectiveness of this sterilization. Therefore, my review is going to assume that this technology is complete effective and it does exactly what it should.
The bottle itself has a nice design. it's comfortable to hold, I good size, and is surprisingly light weight. The marble effect is nice if you like this kind of design.
The lid contains the UV light. It screws on and off with reasonable ease, although there feels like a slight resistance. It actually makes it feel as though it is extremely secure, and I never detected any leaks in use.
The use of the sterilization light is pretty straight forward. The top of light has a surface used to activate it, and also test the battery level. It has two modes - Normal and Crazy, which determines how long the light will run to sterilize. The directions give you guidance as to which mode to use and when. The normal mode is only one minute, so in most cases, this is also a quick process to sterilize your water. Obviously this is a useful item to have when you are concerned about the water source. This product is most likely intended for people who like to enjoy the outdoors and water sources tend to be rivers and streams. However, as I am writing this in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a nice item to have anytime I'm drinking water that is not from a sealed container, such as a tap, and is not inside my house.
The bottle is also suppose to keep your beverage hot or cold for up to twelve hours. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I tested only the cold, but in twelve hours, I measured (with a meat thermometer) an increase of only 5 degrees F.
Overall, if sterile water is important to you, or if you do spend more time outside and want to consume water from natural sources, AND assuming the technology is effective as it states, this is a great product to have!

I had this a few months now and well ran over the first bottle 2 months in with my Jeep due to leaving it on the winch bumper. So I bought a Mira 17 oz replacement steel bottle and the Crazy Cap fit it perfectly. Yesterday again left the bottle on the winch bumper and another steel flask got crushed but the Crazy Cap(alil more dented) still works perfectly fine. So another Mira 17oz flask is on order.

I am an avid hiker and distance walker who also has a medical condition that requires me to have water with me at all times. That same medical condition has damaged my taste buds, so that most everything tastes bitter to me, including water. I found one store-bought brand of water that I could tolerate, but I was unhappy with the cost and the wastefulness of discarding so many plastic bottles. Enter the CrazyCap (Gen 2) bottle – and problem solved!
I have not tested this bottle with water from a stream or lake, and I don’t have a way to determine that it does, in fact, kill any viruses or bacteria that are lurking in our tap water. However, I can say that the tap water I have zapped in this bottle no longer tastes bitter to me. In addition, I no longer worry that my water bottle, itself, might harbor microorganisms and endanger my health. So long as I keep the rim of the bottle clean, the UV light takes care of everything else.
The bottle is lightweight and does a decent job of keeping my water cool. There is an O-ring on the cap that helps ensure a drip-proof seal, and the package included two replacement O-rings, which I doubt I will ever need. The 17-ounce quantity is just right for me; anything larger would mean more weight than I want to carry around all day. I charged the cap before using it the first time, and after over a week of ongoing use it is still going strong. I’ll probably start charging it once a week, but it’s good to know that it can go beyond that if necessary.
Bottom line: the CrazyCap Bottle is giving me a ready supply of clean, good-tasting water without any of the guilt and wastefulness that go along with using store-bought.
