After using this drive for a day, I was on the fence about returning it. For those unaware, it uses QLC flash and has no DRAM buffer. Sometimes drives can get away with that, but this one really can't. It was replacing two 90% full 2TB drives, so there was a lot of data to copy over. I'm really glad I don't use or change the data on it very often. It took about 8 hours to transfer the first 1.65GB of data from the first drive, and equally as long for the second. The only reason I'm not returning it is because I only have to do that once. After a couple seconds of its SLC cache exhausting, the average speed was 20MB/s. That's not something I've seen from a storage drive since the late 90's. Once all the data is on it, read speeds are excellent. If you are like me and have two full 2TB drives of data that doesn't change, this could be an option as long as you have 16 hours to dedicate to the initial transfer. It is a good price compared to other 4TB drives, but honestly it would have been less of a headache and less hassle to just get a traditional platter-based 4TB drive. The data transfer would have been much faster and the price per GB would have been more agreeable. Of course, you won't have the same access speed once the data is there, but overall, it would have taken a lot less of my time. My PC case doesn't have any provisions for 3.5" Sata drives at the moment, so unfortunately that wasn't really an option for me. The day after buying this, I went to Best Buy and bought an additional 4TB drive. This time I made sure it used TLC flash (3-bits per cell) and had a DRAM cache. I've been copying over files from other drives on that one and been achieving well over 300MB/s all throughout, even accounting for when it exhausts its SLC cache. Yeah, it was appreciably more expensive than the MX500, but based on my experience yesterday, that price was completely worth it to me.

I made the mistake of purchasing 4 of these, only to find out they are SERIOUSLY flawed with write performance. After looking up tech reviews, it confirmed my suspicion. These are "DRAM-less" budget drives, and after a short write burst performance will absolutely face plant to ~50MB/s. Cannot recommend. Returning all 4.

The write cache on this is almost non-existent. I never returned a drive before, but it would basically be a reasonable speed for 10 seconds, before running out of cache and going to a crawl for a full minute before getting another 10 second burst. Horrid.

Good drive, however does not have DRAM so writing big files to it can take a long time. Beware.

I’ve got through 2 of these and the company doesn’t had no SLAs on warrantee. I’ve been waiting for months and they only respond that it’s been escalated and don’t compete the warrantee exchange. I recommend Samsung SSDs they have been bullet proof. These failed in same device and company lacks responsiveness. I can’t recommend this product - stay away. They aren’t the same company from years ago….

BEWARE. I bought this drive, and then it went bad after four weeks. Exchanged it for a second, and it went bad after five weeks. Returned to Crucial for a new one (after the BB return period ended). It has been over a month and Crucial is still giving me the run-around even after they said they would exchange it. Crucial used to be reliable. WILL NOT buy another product from them again.

I have had this ssd in my computer for a few months now and it is slower than my usb 8tb hdd that overheats easily. I had BlackOps 6 on it and was getting physically sick with the issues this ssd was causing the game to have. I moved it to a different sata ssd and the game runs much smoother. This ssd also maxes out at 100% usage on games when doing simple loading. When trying to load up sons of the forest the game intends to crash due to the drive going to 100% load and not being able to keep up. BO6 was having texture rendering issues as well on this drive. It's extremely slow and should never be used for games or anything that needs you fast data transfer speeds
