Very easy to install in my Dell E5430 laptop. I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, and the drive is very quick. This drive was a less expensive alternative to the Samsung SSDs I usually buy, and my past experience with Crucial memory modules gives me confidence that this will prove to be a reliable unit.

Fantastic upgrade for an older laptop

The Crucial MX500 SSD is one of the best upgrades you can do for an older laptop. It can make an older laptop feel like a brand new computer again. Everything feels so much more zippier. I replaced the 2.5 inch 5400 rpm 1TB hard drive in my 7 year old HP ENVY TouchSmart M6 Sleekbook with the Crucial MX500 1TB SSD. The installation process was fairly simple. I went to Crucial’s website to download a custom copy of Acronis True Image for Crucial. You need to supply your own USB to SATA converter cable. Luckily, I had one lying around. You use the USB to SATA converter to connect the new SSD to a USB port on your laptop. The custom version of Acronis True Image will only run if it detects a Crucial MX500 SSD connected to your computer. When it recognizes that you have one connected, you can then select the source (the original internal hard drive) and the destination (the new SSD connected to your laptop’s USB port) for the cloning process. After you use the software to clone the internal laptop hard drive to the new SSD, you need to physically swap out the internal hard drive with the new SSD. This will probably be the most difficult part of the process depending on how easy it is to access the internal hard drive on your laptop. Prior to upgrading the internal hard drive to the Crucial MX500 SSD, starting up Visual Studio 2017 for the first time took about 40 seconds and restarting the computer took about 4 minutes and 40 seconds to get to the point where Steam finished verifying its installation during start-up. After the upgrade, starting up Visual Studio 2017 for the first time took only 15 seconds and restarting the computer now takes about 1 minute and 15 seconds to get to the point where Steam finished verifying its installation during start-up. Everything is now so much faster. Programs start up much faster. Windows open quickly. It almost feels like I have a new laptop! The Crucial MX500 is definitely one of the best upgrades you can do for an older laptop or computer. I would strongly recommend the Crucial MX500 SSD as an economical way to upgrade your PC.

I needed to upgrade the SSD in my desktop as I was filling it up. This was on sale at Best Buy.com so I purchased it. Was small, easy to install, and works great. Since I already had a SSD, I was already use to the fast speeds for booting and searching for files. Crucial is a great company and it has a good warranty on the device. I am very happy with the drive and the additional storage space.

So surprised at how easy it to do use and set up. SSD is Super fast. Compatible with mac. Shoudlve done it sooner. Working great so far. Absolutely Love it!! Wife is impressed as well with speed. 1tb. awesome.

I love the improvement that installing this SSD gave my Windows 10 system. It makes all the difference in the world to switch from a HD to an SSD! From amazingly fast boot up times, to very quick application installs (that includes Win10 upgrades that were excruciating), to stalled out apps that had to be ended with Task Manger, it's the single greatest upgrade I've made to my system! And they are quiet compared to spinning disks. The price that Best Buy offered on this Crucial 1TB SSD was the best I could find and was in-stock at my local store. Cloning* the old drive, installing and getting back up and running was very straight forward. Watch the videos on YouTube and you'll be fully prepared. After I experienced the improvement, the next day I ordered 2 more to upgrade my wife's computer and another desktop. Both improved dramatically. *Note: if you are cloning another drive, if at all possible do not use a USB connection. It took ~6 hours to transfer 560mb. On the next 2 installs I used a SATA cable and connected the drives to the motherboard's second SATA terminal. The cloning processes were both under an hour.

I bought this drive to use as a portable game drive between multiple computers. Works completely fine and is really fast for what I need. I would definitely recommend this as the best 2.5 inch ssd as it performs on par with the samsung ones but is a lot cheaper.

This was a quick install and I did a backup retrieving the 84% of misallocated files from my computer that went missing when my computer failed to work and less than 2 years old. It is nice to know you don't have to replace a $300-$1000 laptop nor hire expensive services when you can replace the SSD and download windows yourself with a bootable drive. These little SSD's function quicker and are lighter than the factory HDD setup.

Most of my drives SSDs or m.2 nvmes are Samsung. I've had Crucial memory back in the day and it never failed me. This is my first Crucial drive. It works wonderfully. Fast speeds and a good amount of storage. I'm using it as a game drive for older games. Most of my files are older games with files sizes ranging from 7gb to 50gb. Storage will vary for everyone according to their own files sizes but currently have 23 games stored on here and have only used 50% of the drive. If you have m.2 slots in your PC that would be an obvious go to for some speed increases. If you want a portable drive or only have SATA ports than this is a must have. You can also youtube m.2 vs SSD speeds. These are really not that much slower. In some cases they are just a couple of seconds slower than the newer drives available. If you can get a sale price on this it's totally worth it. I'll be picking up more in the future.

I bought two of these in 1TB, one to replace the HDD in my dad's laptop and one to add into my desktop. It's a great SSD, lighter than my older Sandisk Ultra II and quite a bit faster. It does sequential reads a bit over 560MB/s and writes around 510MB/s, and randoms were good as well although I forget what the numbers were. It offers an excellent price to performance ratio, and it should last a good long time owing to the onboard DRAM cache, so it's well worth the little bit of extra cost over a WD Green or Kingston A400. One of the two I got was open box and had the partition table wiped clean. I'm mildly annoyed that I got an open box item, but I still got a fresh warranty, a quick battery of tests revealed no detectable problems with it, and my Windows C: partition which I moved to it hasn't given me any trouble beyond the usual Windows annoyances, so I decided to just keep it.

This is the 3rd Crucial MX500 1TB SSD that I have installed in my laptop computers and they are top rated in my book. Installation is easy, though I did not use the included Acronis software to transfer my data. 3 out of 3 times the Acronis software failed saying the new SSD drive had errors, so I used another software to seamlessly transfer my data from the installed HDD to the new Crucial SSD. My laptop's startup times have increased tremendously and the drive works flawlessly, and not to mention the excellent price.

The Crucial BX500 makes for a fast and affordable upgrade to your laptop's storage. As an internal SSD, it offers several advantages over a mechanical hard disk: Boot and load times will be dramatically quicker thanks to SSD speeds. This makes your laptop feel instantly responsive when opening programs or loading web pages. No more waiting around for the OS or apps to start up. An SSD is also more durable and shock-resistant than an HDD, providing protection against accidental bumps or drops that could damage a spinning disk. This gives you peace of mind when transporting your laptop. Battery life may see a slight improvement versus an HDD since an SSD uses less power during operation and idle times. Every bit helps when running on laptop power. You can enjoy immense storage capacity up to 1TB, allowing you to carry your entire library of software, documents, photos and videos with plenty of room to spare. Installation is simple by placing the drive in your laptop's SSD slot or enclosure. Crucial provides easy cloning software to migrate your data over from an old drive. Overall, upgrading to the reliable and affordable Crucial SSD makes your laptop feel faster, more durable and future-proof a worthwhile investment to enhance your portable computing experience.

MX500 has 5 years warranty vs 3 years from WD or Sandisk on similar priced SSDs. These are all 3D nand and performance is very close with minor edge to Crucial in certain area. This also comes with power loss protection, making it a good PC disk. The technology has advanced over many years, I have a 5 year old drive from Crucial (mx100 500 GB) which is MLC(Considered to be better), I did the comparison of both and have attached the image. On your left is MX500 and on right is MX100. You can see how close they both are, Heck in some cases TLC drive is ahead. Now for sure MX100 is doing wonderful for a 5 years old disk, but this gives you an idea of how far 3D NAND TLC has come.

There will be a time when you need a faster computer upgrade. That time for me is now, especially when we are all working from home and doing more demanding tasks from our computers. If you are like me running an older computer that has seen better days (Haswell Core i5 4670K), the fastest way to speed up the computer is by replacing the hard drive with an SSD. This is not my first SSD transition and surely won’t be my last, but SSD’s have improved their speeds significantly in the last few years. I had an SSD on this computer back in the day, but when that died, I used my existing rotational hard drive. Not able to take the slowness anymore, I cloned the hard drive using the Crucial migration software made by Acronis True Image. This process took about an hour as the read speed of the hard drive was slow. Once the system was migrated, I ran a test on the speed of the SSD and the hard drive. The hard drive was slow but I found the SSD read speed also slow. As the SSD was mounted on a USB SATA card, I suspected that the slow read and write speeds during migration was partly due to the controller on the USB external interface for the hard drive. Installing the drive internally, the computer came up in seconds vs taking over 2 minutes to boot. It seems the slow down was definitely my external USB SATA connector, speed tests using the SATA cable connected to the motherboard had speeds over 535 mb/s reads, and 490 mb/s write. Far cry from what the old hard drive was doing. I am very happy with the SATA drive speeds on this Crucial MX500 SSD. 1 Terabyte will go a long way. If you are looking to do an upgrade, no harm going with crucial SSD. Crucial is a company that makes great memory products, and this SSD is a notch in its belt. Its a good quality drive, and as far as I can say, the speeds are completely acceptable. It helped speed up my old computer in what took only about 90 minutes to do (image existing drive, replace the drive) I realize that I forgot to screenshot the write speed of the drive after it was installed into the computer. The final write speed connected to the SATA3 6gb interface is 535 mb/s read, and 490 mb/s write.

TLDR: This is the drive to buy for great storage value and SATA speed! Would be a good main drive too! With the value this thing has , I will ALWAYS recommend this drive over competing 1TB drives. This one has a DRAM cache (some cheap drives do not) which helps with overall performance, AND its 3D TLC NAND instead of new QLC chips that some competition is using in cheaper drives. If you look at normal synthetic benchmarks, this drive will be right on par with others in its category (near the top), but if you actually run some real world stuff, this one will pull ahead. I tested this drive vs a competitors 1TB QLC based drive (they're similarly valued at MSRP). First I moved my rocket league folder from steam to each of these drives. They virtually tied, less than a half second of each other, pulling around 179MB/s. (This folder is has mixed file sizes, the speed is actually quite good) Then I moved a 53.6GB virtual machine image from the same location, to each of these drives. The MX 500 pulled 422MB/s with the QLC drive only pulling 257MB/s. (I included a screenshot of the empty drives Crystal disk mark test also.)

Good replacement for your aging laptop. Replaced a HDD with this SDD in my grand daughters old laptop. What a difference. Like new . Boot times cut to 40 seconds versed 3 minutes or more. The installed programs also boot a lot faster. If your laptop is old but everything else is OK, get this . It will make a difference. Easy to install also. Just Google your laptop and watch the YouTube video on how to install. Took me about half an hour. NOTE: The installed software is Crucial specific, so if the HDD you are replacing is another brand it won't work. I used Macrium Reflect Free Edition. Google for more free software.

This is the fastest low wattage SSD on the market and got it at a great price on Best Buy's website. It was available locally for pickup in an hour but I was busy and the shipping was free. As of this writing it has been in use for under a month. It installed quickly (although I forgot to mount it) for use as a second drive for quick access storage and some program installation as the main OS drive is an M2 SSD on the motherboard and 256GB. It works well and transferred files easily. I looked at some other brands from other stores and this is a great one and was less money when I bought it. I would recommend it
