Good for mainstream usage. Large buffer for most.

I had high hopes for a Crucial SSD stick, but some of the software available with it leaves something to be desired. A QLC (Quad Level Cell) SSD like the P3 and P3 plus has an inherent performance disadvantage compared to TLC and SLC drives. Manufactures work around this issue through caching in the controller and smart write buffering. This allows a drive like Crucial’s P3 to work as a high performance drive in most real-world situations. This drive is not designed for use in a high end video workstation or a server. For nearly any other purpose (including light video editing at home), I found the drive worked remarkably well and hit the speeds that Crucial advertises. Crucial recommends their P5 line of drives for those who need high speed sustained write speeds. Read speeds do not rely on a buffer. The buffer is dynamically provisioned, so it will get smaller as the drive fills up. In my testing with various benchmarking utilities, I found the buffer fills up at around 2GB of writing. This means that a sustained write of very large files will slow down considerably once the buffer is full. The transfer will continue, just a little slower. This only happened when I was copying files from one area of the SSD to another. Any writing which involved an external source (i.e.copying videos from a camera) worked just fine for a sustained period without any noticeable slowdowns. For the source drive I was using, the max rate was ~ 130 Mb/s. The software issues I had were with the version of Acronis which is available free to purchasers of this drive. My goal was to clone my laptop’s drive so I could replace the OEM stick with the larger 2TB stick. I have an external enclosure I used for the new drive while it was being cloned. I’ve found it to be reliable in the past. Acronis took over 2 hours to clone the drive. However, when I tried to boot it was in need of repair. I tried to use Acronis again, but it wouldn’t recognize the drive as coming from Micron/Crucial, so wouldn’t let me use the software. Instead, I used Clonezilla LIVE to boot from a USB drive and clone the old to the new. This time, it took only 30 minutes to clone 200GB, but more importantly I was able to boot from the new drive when all was done. After Clonezilla was done, Acronis seemed to work fine again. I wouldn’t recommend against the drive just because of Acronis, but it did diminish the experience. Overall, this is a good choice for most people. You get the benefit of fast read speed, but at a considerable discount from the fastest drives on the market.

The card came in good condition, fast shipping, had 2 TB like it said and it was the right size. Would recommend buying this if you need an SD card that's cheap and has a lot of storage 10/10

This NVME solid state drive is excellent. It’s made by a reputable brand, fast enough for every day use, and is an efficient use of an m.2 slot. The most important thing to me when shopping for computer parts is to purchase from a reputable and reliable brand. The crucial brand has been a trusted brand for a long time, I’ve had good experiences with their other products so I felt pretty secure in putting my faith into them. This drive is fast enough for every day use. The description boasts read/write speeds of up to 3500/3000MB/s. This is more than fast enough for my usage, which generally consists of gaming (I play Fortnite, Rumbleverse, Knockout City, and anything on Xbox Game Pass), productivity (R Studio, Jupyter Notebook, Tableau), and creative applications (photo editing, video editing). Likewise, I feel like 2tb is a great utilization for an M.2 slot based on my needs. Overall I would recommend this drive to anyone looking for 2tb of storage. It’s fast enough for my needs and comes from a reliable brand.

I put this in my Dell Precision 3630 tower and loaded Linux Mint 21.2. It boots fast and works fine. I originally ordered this from Amazon. After over a week, it was stuck in Michigan so I canceled my order and ordered it at Best Buy and got it quick.

The Crucial P3 2TB PCIe M.2 2280 SSD is one heck of a fast and large size internal PCIe drive for the price. The crucial wins my love with a sub $200 price take for a 3x4 NVMe interface while using the very popular PCIe M.2 SSD slot in most computers nowadays. I used the SSD for my standalone USB 3.0 case made for M.2 Hard drives. I do this for Photography work, keeping all my pictures and drone shots in one place and can travel with it, the drive is protected within the case. The Crucial P3 drive has a very large lifespan with a minimal if 440 Terabytes of date processed guaranteed before it starts to degrade. For most users, I would say 87% of users will never need to swap these drives they are 10+ year SSDs, cant beat it for the price. The Crucial P3 has a read speed of 3500 megabytes per second with a write speed of 3000 megabytes per second. This is great for gaming 90% of todays games, some need the benefit of a 4x4 NVMe but the Crucial did handle my sim racing game, Asseto Corsa, just fine, no frame drops or stalled gaming. I did not plan to use it for gaming but I wanted to test it with gaming and it does work great, Call of Duty also had zero issues. The P3 also comes with a 5 year warranty, that in itself is rare and I love seeing a company that stands behind their products. Today is always about the fastest way to produce and get it out the door. Crucial has stepped up tremendously with a 5 year warranty in my book. The last thing I need to bring up, the Crucial P3 2TB is that 2, yes, TWO full terabytes to use for how ever you want and you will have all the speed you need unless you are doing CadCam work and gaming at the same time, ask me how I know. I highly recommend the Crucial P3, still blows my mind how good it really is for the girls to use daily.

Slowest M.2 SSD drive ive seen

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

ThisSSD is half the speed at 3,500 mbps of most of the orher M.2 SSD drives out there. You are saving $20-30 but defeating the purpose of having a high speed drive. Games and files will load slower and you could see performance issues in game like framerate dips. I’d spend a little more and pickup a Samsung 980 Pro or another SSD that can hit close to 7,000 mbps.
