Bleeding-edge speed; heatsink recommended

PCIe 4x4 = all but the largest media files/transfers (>100GB) close to 7.9GB/s. Greatly reduces the time it takes to load resources from storage in most if not all applications. If motherboard doesn't provide one, I would suggest a heatsink or heatspreader for this drive if you expect to be moving large files on a regular basis.
