Crucial Component, Easy Decision

I still remember the difference that upgrading RAM made the first time I did it…jumping from 8 to 32 was a game-changer. Suddenly, Windows was immediately more responsive, my games loaded much faster and stuttered less, and I could finally install the latest and greatest PC game I picked up a week earlier - Quake II.
A lot has changed in 30 years but the old adage of “you can never have too much RAM” still rings true. Today we put more emphasis on speed and timing as yet another highly overclockable part of high-end desktop PC builds, but ultimately DDR5 shares a lot of the basics with the 32MB EDO RAM upgrade I alluded to in the previous paragraph. Crucial’s Pro OC Gaming DDR5-6400 32GB UDIMM memory kit felt very similar…once installed, it just worked as I expected it to and hit the speeds it promised. Nothing fancy, just a good quality option for my build - and now I can finally install the latest and greatest PC game I picked up a week ago - Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
An important note for novice PC enthusiasts: memory kits like this are sold barebone - there is no included documentation for how to install or configure this memory in your system. If you aren’t comfortable with upgrading your PC yourself, speak to a Geek Squad associate prior to purchase for recommended installation and support services.
- Unboxing and Setup
Shipping in a cardboard blister pack, the Crucial Pro OC Gaming RAM is packaged about as minimally as possible, reducing waste and eschewing physical documentation. Installation of the DDR5 kit is as easy as any memory standard before it - seat the memory in the channel and push to click both retaining ends in place. Some motherboards will have retaining clips on one side that don’t move; simply line up and seat that end first before pushing down the opposite.
As a reminder, consumer-class motherboards with more than 2 DIMM slots will usually have their channels arranged A/A/B/B, not A/B/A/B. You will want to check your motherboard’s labels or documentation to make sure you’re installing these in opposite memory channels for best performance.
The Crucial Pro OC memory kit is a no-frills, low-profile set that should seat in all but the tightest of small form factor builds. Indeed, the heat spreader barely rises a few millimeters past the memory’s PCB and left me with tons of clearance to access the memory even with a beefy air cooler installed on my CPU. Measured height is 35mm.
- Performance
Once installed in my system and first booted, the RAM (like any kit on first install) ran at its baseline (JEDEC) specification, which is DDR5-4800MHz with very loose timings. Crucial includes two onboard memory profiles for accessing its binned and validated performance ratings - Intel XMP (6400MHz, CAS 38) and AMD EXPO (6000MHz, CAS 36), either of which can be selected in your motherboard’s BIOS settings. As an AMD user, I chose to run the EXPO profile as most modern AMD CPUs struggle to run memory at speeds higher than 6200MHz without altering other settings that greatly sacrifice performance.
Paired with my 9800X3D on an X870 motherboard, the Crucial Pro OC DDR5 kit runs flawlessly on its AMD EXPO profile. It’s difficult to determine where the memory may be a bottleneck in any performance application, but nonetheless it handles everything I ask my machine to do with aplomb. Faster memory with tighter timings may improve minimum framerates when gaming or invoke less stutter in professional and production applications, but beyond 6000MHz diminishing returns kick in all the same.
- Bottom Line
This is a quicker review for me than usual since there isn’t too much to say - desktop RAM is one of the most straightforward PC components out there with little to differentiate them unless you’re going for world record benchmarks. The 32GB Crucial Pro OC DDR5-6400 kit gets a leg up with its dual Intel/AMD profile support and quality Micron memory, while its svelte heat spreaders keep a low profile both literally and figuratively. Perhaps slightly pricier than some other options on the market, but it’s right in line with expectations and Crucial’s reputation is worth the premium. Recommended!

Solid choice for higher performing RAM without RGB

Well, it's a RAM kit and there isn't a lot to say. It's not there are lots of features to compare between different RAM kits, and unless you're paying for the absolute top-binned sticks, the maximum bandwidth you can get is usually limited more by your motherboard than the RAM sticks themselves.
This kit is rated for DDR5-6400, which isn't the fastest of the fast, but it's still a solid performance level. Most people aren't buying motherboards capable of using the 8000+ kits anyway. It has both Intel XMP and AMD EXPO profiles, so it will work fine with either platform. The XMP and EXPO profiles use identical timings as well. The individual timings are very tight, with primary CAS latency under 12ns. A lot of kits that support the higher frequencies often do so with slack timings. This means they might be able to give you high burst bandwidth, but are actually slower in the normal day-to-day workloads.
Another nice feature on this kit is the baseline profile. A lot of RAM kits use a much lower DDR5-4800 default profile with very loose timings when the XMP or EXPO profiles are not in use. This Crucial kit uses a faster DDR5-5200 baseline with much tighter than average timings. This might be a small thing since most people will simply engage the faster profiles, but if for whatever reason your motherboard has troubles with XMP/EXPO, or has limited overclocking abilities, having a faster base profile yields better performance in those rare cases.
Finally, the construction on modules is very good. It uses a chunky yet low-profile heat spreader to leave plenty of room for tower CPU coolers. I also appreciate that Crucial offers this in a non-RGB version since not every user wants to pay extra for flashy lights from their system.
It's a great RAM kit, and provided the price is right for you, there's little reason to at least not consider it.

Let's get the overclocking out of the way first. I do not buy RAM for its overclocking ability. I don't know what it is, but I've never had any luck getting my systems to stay stable and crash-free after enabling XMP or EXPO settings. This RAM was no exception to this rule, however, for what it's worth, it wasn't unbearable like it sometimes is. Like, I didn't feel the need to switch overclocking off to count my system as usable. I wasn't having hourly or daily crashes. It was relatively low on the annoyance chart. I did get more stability with overclocking disabled, however. I should also note that my system is on the canary channel in the Windows Insider program, so I'm probably not the best judge of stability anyway.
That out of the way, I like this RAM. I usually go for RGB RAM, but I actually rather like the design of these DIMMs. I've been moving away from fancier and more detailed parts to ones with simpler designs lately, and these fit right in. I'll also admit I'm rather thrilled that these don't require me to have extra software installed to control them, unlike my RGB RAM. When overclocking is off, these don't appear to cause any additional crashes - they appear to be perfectly stable to me. I've also noticed that multitasking appears to be running pretty smoothly - I haven't had any issues with freezing when playing a game and running other tasks at the same time, which has been an issue on some other DDR5-based systems I've used.
So, overall, I like these and would recommend them. I can't really advise you on the overclocking abilities of this RAM just because I have the foulest luck imaginable with overclocking in general, but for looks and non-OC function these are pretty great and I would absolutely recommend them unless RGB is a must-have.

In the past, I have upgraded my laptop with some Crucial branded memory sticks and to this day they work great! I did not doubt these and fortunately, they have delivered so far. These gaming memory sticks are perfect for gamers or those who are always multitasking. As someone who sometimes finds themselves with dozens of tabs open in Chrome and multiple applications open, this memory upgrade has been a lifesaver. As a preface, I upgraded my current build which had 16GB of memory. Also, before you buy these memory sticks, make sure they are compatible with your current motherboard. Your current motherboard may not support DDR5.
Once these get installed, I would double-check BIOS or Windows Task Manager to see if the memory you installed all appears correctly. If everything shows up correctly, your PC is good to go! One of the first things I noticed was being able to run a resource-heavy game like the new Indiana Jones without over 75% of memory being used. With the memory upgrade, I was able to have the game open as well as other apps without being worried about maxing out my memory. My main web browser is Chrome, and many know it’s resource-intensive as well. Now that I have more memory, that is one additional item I have to worry less about. Overall, if you are looking for a memory upgrade, you cannot go wrong with some Crucial memory.

So much RAM these days is covered in LEDs or is the cheap stuff that can't hold up to the demands of high end gaming, it's hard to find a kit that is both high end and not covered in LEDs.
Packaging:
To start, it's packaged in basic plastic bubble pack. It doesn't really need better packaging but it would be nice if it had it just because they are attempting to appeal to the high end gaming segment.
Installation:
The RAM supports both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP so dropping it in to either type of system is an immediately recognized high end experience. No need to go adjust timings manually. It has excellent timings and that real speed that doesn't require multiplier splits to manage which causes more issues than performance.
Performance:
In a word, it's great, immediately recognized and improved performance across the entire system and being that it's 32GB in just two DIMMs means you can easily add 64GB total to most systems. Immediate improvements were seen in my Ryzen 7950X3D system which I've been struggling with the RAM in for years.
Overall:
Great ram, excellent price to performance ratio and that nice "stealth" look without all the extra LEDs. I'd recommend it easily.

The Crucial Pro DDR5 desktop memory is an excellent choice for those needing the best technology for today's multitasking, gaming and performance needs.
The sticks of RAM are very solid, have built in heatsinks and perform very well. While they do not have any RGB or otherwise visually appealing aesthetics, they perform the same. No... RGB does not equal more frames.
I am constantly amazed how much gaming technology advances. More and more games are requiring more GPU, CPU, RAM, better and faster hard drives etc. While DDR5 technology isn't technically "needed" to play today's games you will, at some point, want to upgrade. The performance is amazing and the multitasking capabilities are awesome. I can easily be playing a "AAA" game, while watching a stream and having several other programs running without issues.
Install is simple...Just make sure you activate the XMP profile in your BIOS to get the full benefit of the DDR5 ram. However, the default speed settings are plenty sufficient if you're not comfortable messing with the BIOS.
Overall, definitely recommend this RAM. Easily future proof your rig with this RAM.

I finally got my DDR5 motherboard and decided that it was time to get the rig some memory and a CPU to go along with it. A case is still pending but in the meantime I used my old ASUS case and got this thing up and going. Using the new ASUS 870 board and was able to get into the UEFI and use XMP 1 without any issue. First boot into Windows 11 went well, then after endless updates I was finally in and able to test it out.
But first, as someone used to Corsair and G-Skillz RAM with RGB so I was a little ready to be disappointed but I actually was not. While these DIMMs look quite plain in the picture, in person is a completely different story. They are both black of course but it's a deep black and because of the ridges in the DIMM you will see a bunch of different shades of black when the light hits it and when your eyes move around, it's really a super cool look to such a basic item and I think, once I get all my RGB in this rig and up and running, that these DIMMs are going to look great.
I have been playing games and using Windows 11 now for awhile without any crashes or any other issues. The DIMMs run cool, according to my Steelseries Apex Pro Keyboard (a story for another day) where it displays temps, even when running Call of Duty 24/7 which I tend to do when I can.
As for speed? Well it's super fast, I didn't do benchmarks but did verify that it is running in XMP 1. The entire machine is super fast so yeah the DIMMs are fast and I'm very happy with them. I know some other folks may want benchmarks and I'm sure that you can find those but just know that in every day use yes the RAM blazes fast!
I'm very happy with the RAM. The era of RGB ends, but the era of black style begins! Thank you Crucial!

Sadly I couldn't get any bit of overclocking, but that the gamble you take when rolling the dice for OC'ing. Still it could be my mobo that failed me instead of the RAM.
While benchmarks show an improvement in memory speed, real work doesn't seem to give any (or very little) benefit in the games I've played. I'm talking about only a 3-5 FPS increase. Now I am using a 14700 so there could be more benefit with a more modern processor like the 9800x3d. I'd still rather have the highest speed memory I can support for just in case and upgrade comes along.
Big plus for me - NO RGB!!! I hate light and flashy stuff that takes away from playing games. I want it dark, I want my box out of my sight...all I need on my desk are the things I actually interact with. Lights on memory sticks and fans are a no-no for me.
Since I work with a lot of huge Photoshop files, 32 isn't gonna do foe me. I'm grabbing another 32GB soon to make sure I have plenty to get work done and have enough left over to play.

These Crucial Pro OC Gaming RAM modules are a no-nonsense upgrade that actually produces tangible results at a price point that is quite good as well.
Installation is of course easy and there were no hiccups with bios or other minor setup delays that I have sometimes experienced when installing new RAM. The form factor is pleasing, slim yet also including well designed heat spreaders that don't impinge on the space available.
Regarding performance, I noticed a 5-10% speed boost out of the box using various PC benchmark software packages. It was then that I discovered my motherboard only supported up to 4400mhz so I can't take full advantage of the 6400mhz speed and overclocking capabilities of this RAM. Still, the read and write speeds jumped by about 15% with this Crucial RAM vs the old RAM modules. So I'm well pleased with that.
I do a lot of specialized photo editing with VERY large files and VERY large cache usage, using special dedicated editing software that has it's own benchmark utility. When editing these specialized photos some processes take 90 minutes to complete and this is all based on reading and writing to the cache with extremely large files. The software benchmark saw a 25% increase in the write speeds which is huge and cuts down on the processing time needed.
I definitely recommend this RAM and am well pleased with it.

Great Memory for Gaming

This pack of 32GB Crucial Pro OC Gaming memory is a fantastic choice for gamers looking to add more memory to their gaming setups. This is a two pack of 16GB DDR5 6400MHz memory modules. They come with heatsinks pre-installed. In my experience, this is a fantastic set of memory modules. I noticed a definite increase in performance once installed. I got higher scores on my benchmarks and increased FPS on every game I tested out. Installation is quite easy if you have ever installed memory before. You just snap these right in to your memory slots on your motherboard and you're ready to go. Now, these are DDR5 modules, so you have to have a compatible motherboard. Once installed, there wasn't much to do, I just booted up my system and enjoyed the increased performance. Now, with the heatsinks, you should in theory be able to overclock these memory modules, but overclocking hasn't been my thing for a long time, so I wasn't able to test that out. But it's nice to know I can try if I am feeling adventurous. Overall I am very happy with these memory modules. They were easy to install and gave my gaming setup a significant performance boost.
