When it comes to external SSDs, they either work well or don't. They're either large and bulky or small and easy to carry. For the Crucial X10, it strikes an outstanding balance between size and performance with an impressive 2TB storage size as well. Upon opening the box, I was immediately impressed by how small this external SSD is compared to previous drives that I have in my drawers. Smaller than the footprint of a credit card, the enclosure is made of a plastic material that feels pretty sturdy, making it lightweight. It has an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance and is drop resistant up to 9.8 feet. While I have not personally tested either of these claims, and do not ever plan to, I do take some comfort in knowing that there is some amount of durability with this external drive, given that my other drives do not make such claims. Also included in the box is a nine-inch USB-C to USB-C cable. This is an appropriate cable size for the drive, and I think that USB-C is totally fine in today's world. It's 2025, so you need USB-C for the fast performance, as most devices (especially laptops) do not have older USB-A ports. When it comes to performance, the X10 works as expected when transferring nearly 400GB of multimedia files (mainly art files for graphic design) to the drive in about 12 minutes. After the initial transfer, the performance was flawless and fast. Overall, the X10 has exceeded my expectations in terms of size and performance, and I'm excited to have this as part of my essential data setup. If you are considering an external SSD to tote around or to keep at home simply, I would have no hesitation recommending this one.

    Large Capacity, Small Form Factor

I've been using the Crucial X10 2TB for about 2 weeks now, and it's been rock solid reliable in terms of performance. I do quite a bit of video editing and was excited to see how this might perform in terms of read/write speed of 4K videos that I was editing and it hasn't disappointed. First, in terms of form factor, the X10 is definitely the smallest external hard drive that I have had the opportunity to use. It is about 3/4 the width of a credit card and about 1/2 in thick. It easily can be thrown in your pocket, a backpack, or basically anything else, it's that small. The outer case is made of a blue plastic that feels solid to the touch. It's drop resistant to 3M, but I'm not about to test that claim myself and it is water and dust resistant (IP65). The SSD comes with a short USB-C cable, which makes it easy to connect to a laptop and supports USB 3.2 2x2 which can deliver 20Gbps in transfer speeds when connected to a compatible USB port on the computer. I really appreciate the portableness of the unit. I have a couple 2-4TB portable external mechanical drives that I had been using to also backup and transfer videos between machines. I think this is a much better option, given the faster read/write speeds, compactness, and with no moving parts, will hopefully offer increased reliability. Plus Crucial is backing this with a 3 yr warranty, which is a good sign.

The Crucial X10 portable SSD is tiny. I have other small SSD drives, but nothing that compares to the size of this one. It is a 2 terabyte drive that measures two and a half inches by two inches wide and only around a quarter inch thick. If you are someone like me who uses multiple laptops and am always switching around and need to transport files between machines and not have to rely on the cloud or an internet connection, then this little baby is nice. I wanted to see how fast the transfer speeds actually were, so I downloaded a couple of my games to the drive and played them on a couple of different ASUS laptops. I really couldn’t see a difference in load times and frame rates compared to playing the games from the computer’s SSD. I am sure there was some measurable difference, but in the reality of usage, I didn’t notice any change. The drive is IP 65 dust, water, and drop resistant for up to three meters. The X10 is also compatible with windows, MAC, androiod (which I confirmed by transferring files from my galaxy fold 6 to the drive and back) with a USB type C to C connection. The drive also comes with a three year limited warranty. My drive is a 2TB version that advertises a read rate of 2100 MB/s. If you are in the market for a very compact 2TB drive with decent transfer speeds at a good price, the Crucial X10 should be on your list of possibilities. In case you need it, the drive has a getting started guide that directs you to a support page or a service page where you can download additional software and installation guides.

Great portable SSD. The Crucial X10 2TB Portable SSD is an excellent choice for all your data storage needs, especially if you're on the go. Great for storing video files. USB-C connection means it can attach to modern Android phones and tablets, iPhone 15 and newer, most current laptops and desktops. You can also set it up as a storage device for X-box Series X with a USB-c to USB-A adapter. In my opinion this drive is better served as a portable storage solution. Software setup is easy and very user friendly. On my gaming laptop it was essentially plug and play. It's decently built, with good solid quality. I dropped mine a couple times attaching it to my Pixel phone and while the case is scuffed, it did not crack, break or split open. One drop on asphalt, once in a dirt/rocky music festival ground. Data integrity was not compromised. Data transfer is incredibly fast. Folders with 30+ Gigs of data transferred in under a minute. If my laptop had the newest USB-S protocols it would be even faster. I can imagine this being a great solution for hiking Vloggers and backpackers that need a rugged lightweight high capacity storage device for videos to free up their camera Micro SD cards.

Rugged Performance Built for the Outdoors

The Crucial X10 is a solid companion for life on the go—built tough and ready for the elements. With an IP65 rating, it shrugs off dust and water, and it’s drop-resistant up to 9.8 feet (3 meters), making it ideal for outdoor use or rough travel days. Performance-wise, it’s no slouch. Write speeds reach up to 2,100 MB/s, and in real-world use, it handled a hefty 899 GB transfer of mixed file sizes in just about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The drive warmed up a bit during the process, but nothing concerning. By comparison, a regular SSD enclosure ran noticeably hotter and even slowed down. The X10, on the other hand, kept a steady pace the entire time. To keep things running smoothly, I recommend downloading Crucial’s Executive software. It lets you stay on top of firmware updates and monitor drive health with just a few clicks. All in all, if you’re someone who spends a lot of time outdoors or frequently works in the field, the Crucial X10 is a smart investment. It’s not the cheapest option out there, but the rugged build and consistent performance make it well worth the cost for anyone who values durability and peace of mind.

The Crucial X10 Portable SSD is about as easy as it gets if you want to quickly add extra high-speed storage to your system. It performs almost as fast as my internal SSD storage over the high-speed USB-C connection so it's great for loading or saving large amounts of data or loading applications / games from. The unit itself is very rugged and lightweight. It can easily fit into your pocket. purse or bag. The drive is powered by the USB-C port so there is no need to worry about a power adapter. It comes with a sturdy USB-C cable that's a few inches long, which is great, but you might want to get a longer cable depending on your needs. This drive is about as plug and play as it gets! Crucial provides its SSD management software Storage Executive which allows you to see all the properties of your SSD, install firmware updates, install special caching software to speed up the drive up to 10x, sanitize the drive, etc. If you're looking for a simple and convenient way to add portable high-speed storage to your computer, it doesn't get much better than this Crucial X10!

This Drive Knocked My Socks Off !

I’m speechless! I didn’t know you could transfer files as fast as this. I have many USB drives at home, and some of them claim to have fast transfer speeds. You should have seen my face when I went to transfer a 1GB video file from my computer to the X10 and it fully transferred in less than two seconds. At first I didn’t think the transfer worked through, because I didn’t notice the usual Windows transfer box appear with the progress and current transfer speed. I thought the transfer had failed, but then to my amazement the file was actually on the X10! I played the video and it was perfect. One caution: When I first connected the X10 and made a file transfer to the drive, my speed was 36 MB/S which was about the normal speed I was used to. I then noticed free software from Crucial called “The Crucial Storage Executive” was available so I downloaded it and ran the program on my PC. It gives you all kinds of information about your new drive: update availabity, etc., but it contained a feature called “Momentum Cache.” I clicked on the ‘button,’ it performed some magic and the computer needed to be rebooted. When it came back, I tried the file transfer again and BOOM! I had that amazing speed. Reading more about the “momentum cache,” I discovered that it’s only available for PC’s, not on Macs. And that amazing speed works only one way, from transferring a file TO the X10, not from it. This drive is tiny, 2 ¾ inches by 2 inches, and it’s less than half an inch thick and weighs almost nothing. It easily fits in a tiny pocket, even with all that power. Bottom line is this portable storage drive is amazing and is priced comparatively with similar drives without its small size and transfer speed. I think you’ll love the X10

    Ultra portable, fast storage!

Bottom Line: The Crucial X10 offers fast storage in a durable, ultraportable design that makes it suitable to use directly to your digital devices. Pros: ultraportable design; dust, water, and drop resistant; fast read/write speeds Cons: sustained speed slower than initial burst; software not available for Mac OS; included cable is USB-C to USB-A Review: Out of the box, I was surprised by how small the drive is. Eyeballing it, it’s probably 35 percent smaller than my other SSD drives and 65 percent smaller than my older, external HDD. I could easily see some folks double sticking this drive to the back of their laptop or connecting it directly to a digital camera or other portable device. For me, this is an easy addition to my tech folio, so I can carry and access all of my files from my iPad or phone (I no longer carry a full-sized laptop). The case has more of a plastic/rubber feel to it than my other drives, which I prefer. This gives the drive, particularly the bottom, a bit of texture to stay put on a desk, and so I’m less concerned about scratching or damaging the case (or the desk for that matter) given it’s dust, water, and drop resistant rating. In fact, I’ve already dropped it a few times, given its size led to it slipping out of my hands. I haven’t measured read/write (r/w) speeds with software, but burst r/w speed seems really good, especially with < 4GB transfer. That said, sustained r/w speeds seemed much slower. I copied about 1 TB of data from one of my old drives to my M4 Pro Mac mini and then bounced the data back and forth to the X10 to track how long it took for the data transfers. On average, I saw write transfer speeds around 700 MB/s and read speeds around 800 MB/s when dealing with transfers > 10 GB (connected to TB5 port). One of the files on drive points you to Crucial’s website where you can download their Storage Executive software for managing the drive. The software seems to be able to track transfer speeds, drive temperature, and settings that they claim can improve performance by 10x in most cases. However, the software is exclusive to Windows and I was therefore unable to try it out. Last, I found it somewhat odd that the drive came with a short, USB-C to USB-A connector cable. I have plenty of USB-C to USB-C cables, but it was confusing to me that a drive like this is coming with USB-A connector.

This is a fast SSD! I don’t have experience with the Crucial X10 Pro, but I have a 1 TB X6. I recently used the X6 to copy 150 GB of my MP3 library to a new computer. It took around a half an hour, which I’m used to. That’s still a better transfer speed than my WD External HDD which I had used to transfer basically the same file set to my previous computer. Was I surprised when it took under 10 minutes to copy the same set from the computer and back! The drive definitely takes advantage of the USB 3.2 standard. I also copied the photo and video library from my phone and I can’t believe I was done in a matter of seconds for over 10 GB of files. I see how professional photographers are always reviewing these types of SSDs, but now I can see why. From what I can see, the specs are basically the same between the X10 Pro and the X10 model I have, but the latter has a dust and water resistance rating of IP65, while the former has an IP55. I guess given the price difference, if you need the durability, I would say it’s worth to go with the “Standard” edition over the Pro model.

I had always known Crucial for their RAM and even have it installed in my gaming desktop. This is my first foray into Crucial's storage and I not disappointed! I limped along for years with multiple hard drives, adapters, converters, a/c adapters and slow data transfer speeds. But no more! With this Crucial - X10 2TB External USB-C SSD I have an all in one solution for both my additional storage as well as my necessary operating system backups. In addition to storing all that data, it does so in literally a fraction of the time compared to my old hard drives and configuration. This is on a laptop that is pushing 7 years old too, so only the hard drive is new. One of my favorite things is that I have both an NTFS and an APFS partition which allows me to easily hot swap this between my gaming desktop (PC) and my everyday laptop (MacBook Pro). The portability can't be beat. I would definitely consider adding more Crucial storage to my work and gaming computers and would definitely

The Crucial X10 2TB External USB-C SSD has a lot going for it, but the primary use will be for those on the go, particularly for people who do things like hiking with video blogs or otherwise need a lightweight yet hardy storage device. I didn't find the read and write speed to be anything exciting. It's typical for solid state drives (SSDs). I didn't see anywhere near the maximum 2100mb/s write speed, topping out at about 500mb/s when copying files from my desktop PC to the drive. This is no doubt a reflection of my PC and not the drive, but I was hoping for better. Where this drive shines is the portability, size and hardiness. It has an IP55 water and dust resistance rating so it should be "splash proof" but cannot be submerged. It is very small and light which is great for things like video storage straight from your phone camera to the drive. It worked perfectly with my Google Pixel 9. The drive comes with some software offers pre-loaded (Adobe Acrobat Pro, Acronis True Image) but it was not readily accessible. When opening the files in the drive it just takes you to the Crucial website with no mention of the free trial offers that I could find. Not a big deal for me as I won't be using them anyway.

It’s crazy to me how technology changes over time! I have been a PC enthusiast since the early 90’s. I remember when 20 gig hard drives were top of the line. They were big, bulky, and heavy demanded a ton of space in your case setup. Now time warp to 2025 and we have 2 TB hard drives that are silent, weigh next to nothing, and can fit in the palm of your hand! The Crucial X10 SSD is a great example of hard drive technology and how far we’ve really come! It’s under 3 inches long in any direction, IP55 rated for waterproof and drop protection, requires no external power source, and works at blazing read/write speeds up to 2,000 MB per second. The design of the hard drive itself is nice with a hardened blue exterior. It has a nice keychain holder on the corner if you want to attach it to a backpack and all you need to operate it is a single USB-C cable. This HD might be unassuming, but don’t be fooled, this hard drive is ready to go whenever you need it! Since its an SSD it has no moving internal parts. The hard drive responds instantly and doesn’t require any boot up time! Plug and play at its finest! It can be used to help record video, edit photos, extra storage for an Xbox or Playstation, or even double as extra storage for my Tesla Sentry cam! It even can be plugged up directly to an I-phone to add additional space and record Video! Furthermore, it has the ability to encrypt your data should you need to protect sensitive documents. Everything could want and need in a portable hard drive! The future is now and fits in the palm of your hand! If you need a dependable, durable and fast portable HD I would seriously consider the Crucial X10. It’s a home run in a small package!

So I got this with the intent to use with my MacBook Air M4, and I'll do so for along with some transfers from mobile devices too. The size of the drive is REALLY nice, and so tiny. In the pictures, I thought it would be bigger, but it is not. It's a little bigger than a dollar coin if you have one or know the size. It is made of plastic obviously, and it has shiny sides. I don't like that part of the drive, but the other parts are matte. So it feels good there. It's light weight, and can go in to any pocket. Now, the file transfer speeds. They are MUCH slower than I thought, but still decent. I wish it were at least at little bit faster, but it is not. I typical use these drives to edit from, instead of the laptop or item I'm using. However, I'll just use this one more for storage and some transfers from device to device. It's not slow, but not faster than some of my other drives I use. Now the price. Yes it's a 2TB drive, but for the price there other drives that cost less and are faster.
