A great choice for a fast, small external drive.

I do a lot of work with large datasets, and I was excited about this portable SSD because of its capacity and advertised speed. The compact physical size was also something that I liked. The first thing I did was to encrypt it with Windows BitLocker, which was fast and easy on a mostly blank device. I tested it on a OSB 2.0 port on my desktop computer and it performed well, though not up to it’s advertised speeds, of course, as that port can’t handle those higher speeds. Next I tried it on my newer HP Spectre x360 laptop’s higher-speed Thunderbolt 3 port. It did perform well on it, but still nowhere near its advertised speeds. I think in order to get the higher speeds that this drive is capable of, you must use it on the latest generation Thunderbolt 3.2 port. Still, it is plenty fast – much faster than any other external hard drive I have used. The speed, combined with the small form factor makes this a great addition to my computer tool bag. My only fear is that it being so small, makes it easier to lose! I gave this 4 out of 5 stars for one reason – the drive is advertised as coming with some software, but it’s all “30 days trials”. Luckily, that trial software was just a set of web links and not actual “bloatware” loaded onto the drive. Other than that minor gripe, this is a good drive and it’s very fast even when used on a port not quite up to its maximum speeds.

    Crucial for Gaming

Coming from a gaming perspective, this external SSD is a first for me and greatly needed for my laptop PC. I've had my laptop for 2 years now and have come to a point where I can no longer install new games, in order to save space for updates to existing games. I have this Crucial x10 Pro connected to my Alienware - m15 R5 Gaming Laptop with AMD Ryzen R7 5800H. The fastest port, and only USB-C, on my PC is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. According to Alienware and Crucial, this connectivity allows for 10Gbps max data speeds. If this port on my PC was a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, the speed would be twice as fast. It is what it is and that being said, I do not really notice any difference running a game from my PCs internal drive versus this Crucial drive. I did read in their documentation that the included Crucial USB-C to USB-C cable allows for the potential 20Gbps data speeds and is recommended that you do not use any other cable. Personally, I do not really transport my laptop, except for a special occasion. I have an external mouse, keyboard and monitor connected to it so it's really my "desktop" PC. That being said, the x10 Pro would be very easy to transport if I need to. It is very compact and lightweight, weighing only 1.7 ounces. Overall, the Crucial x10 Pro is an excellent choice for users who need a fast, portable, and durable SSD. It is a bit on the expensive side, compared to other SSDs that offer similar performance, in a maybe slightly larger design. However, you cannot go wrong with this x10 Pro.

    Beautifully Portable SSD

Crucial is a brand well known for computer memory and storage. As a writer, photographer, and video content creator, I'm always in need of extra storage for my work and variety of projects. Of course, with cloud storage being something we've grown used to, while this is convenient, I still prefer to have a "hard copy" (or two) just in case. So far, this SSD, fulfills my needs. Saving my precious files was quick and easy because of this Crucial X10 Pro's ultra fast transfer speeds. Being an SSD type storage device, versus a disk drive, I'm more confident what I've saved on it will be more secure with less chance of data loss or file corruption. It is recommended you use the included USB-C cable. This Crucial X10 Pro Portable SSD is dust and water resistant (though I have no plans to test this, however, though accidents do happen). It's also made to be drop "proof" up to 7 1/2 feet. This Crucial X10 Pro is compact and made to be conveniently portable (there's even a handy loop which you can attach a cord, keyring, or thin carabiner to). For those wanting/needing that extra level of security, a 'password protection feature' will be available using the "Crucial Portable SSD Utility" which can be downloaded from their support page come September 2023. I'm hoping this new SSD will help me to better manage (and organize) my documents, photos, and videos. And the 2 TB of storage should be enough to last me a good long while.

Welcome Addition to My Work Gear

I am a graphic designer, which means I work with large image files. This tiny device holds a lot of data – 2TB, and a 4TB device is available – which makes it a great way to take projects to a client’s office or a remote workplace. The programs I use for creating and editing graphics can cause a mediocre storage device to function at a snail’s pace and become very frustrating. However, this Crucial xX10 Pro is also fast. How fast is it? I am using the latest US 3.2 Gen 2 2x2 interface, but I don’t have the expertise to do technical measurements of data transfer rates. I just know that the Crucial X10 pro lets me open and work with those large image files with no noticeable slowdown vs working on one of my desktops. Crucial has promised to make a utility available in September 2023 to enable users to lock/unlock the data with a password and use it on both Windows and Mac computers. I use both, so that will be useful for me. It comes with a 5-year limited warranty, which suggests Crucial believes in its longevity, but I haven’t had it long enough to speak to its actual longevity or durability. Meanwhile, it’s a very welcome addition to my work gear.
