I was using a 3.5 HDD as my external backup due to cost and long term reliability. However, I eventually realized the pros didn't make up for the speed. While pricey, this 4TB SSD is ridiculously small and very, very fast. It takes under 30 minutes to back up what used to take hours. The only real con is that you may lose this drive if you take it out of the house.

Second one I purchased as they're always dependable. Frist one was used to hold a large collection of DVD's to make it much easier to watch on a TV.

I cannot recommend this drive. I bought the X10 Pro 4TB to back up important footage, and after only a short period of use it failed completely. The drive stopped being recognized by my computer, and all of my files — hours of work — are gone. For something marketed as “pro,” this is unacceptable. The compact size and speed were fine when it worked, but none of that matters if reliability isn’t there. I trusted this SSD for critical projects, and it let me down when I needed it most. If your files matter, look elsewhere.

Crucial external USB is nice looking, compact and super fast. It's the best value you can get for an external 4TB SSD drive.

I purchased this SSD less than six months ago, and it has already failed. I contacted Crucial/Micron for a warranty replacement, but the replacement unit was shipped from Malaysia and I was later charged import duties and clearance fees by FedEx. That is almost 1/3 of what I originally paid for the drive. This essentially means the warranty service does not truly exist unless you are willing to pay a large unexpected fee. Between the premature failure and the ineffective warranty process, I honestly cannot recommend this product. There are other brands with more reliable drives and more consumer-friendly warranty practices.

Fast. I just hope it holds up. A back up for the computer, a backup for the back up, and a back up for that.
