I have moved data from iPad to smartphone to macbook seamlessly. I did not have to format between the different file systems. I moved 5gb of video shy of 6 secs.

I had a lot of files on my old laptop and wanted to make sure that I had a backup of everything on my old laptop in case it crashes. The external hard drive was easy to set-up and included software to back everything up.
