Capacity display issue: Crucial - X9 Pro 2TB

I bought two Crucials. A 1TB that is working absolutely flawlessly and this 2TB. This 2TB Crucial was working fine until for no explainable reason it lost its ability to display any type of capacity information in "This PC" on Win11. I double-checked via other Win tools, same result. I reformatted the drive at that point, restored my data from backup, and it did the same thing again about 10m after the restore completed. I have several copies of this data on various external disks; all of those disks are fine. Pretty disappointed and will have to think twice now about buying any Crucial products. Kudos to Best Buy though. They took this back without question and issued an immediate refund.

Bought this drive to store my Photos library since my new Macbook did not have a large amount of storage. I moved my library to this drive, immediately had issues with this drive. After my first transfer of about 600GB of personal files, ensure everything was settled with my library, updated, etc. Within the first day, the drive was having issues mounting which led me to first attempt a First-Aid which did not help followed by a reformatting of the drive thinking that may solve the problem (note that I used APFS formatting every time). After reformatting, transferred my photo library once again and within a day, the drive would not mount at all. I tried everything I could to no avail, the drive would simply not mount, it wouldn't show on the Disk Utility, tried everything I could find online but it wouldn't show up either on my Mac or on my PC. I've never had issues with Crucial before but after reading many many posts online about this mounting issue, I decided to purchase a Samsung T7 instead which had sound reviews for Mac users (specially for its reliability).

Been testing it for the 15 Pro Max and it’s been working great. It’s nice and small. For PC and Mac, it’s not the fastest but it works as intended.

The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD is an exceptional storage solution that combines impressive performance, robust build quality, and user-friendly features in a compact form factor. As a long-time user of external SSDs for various purposes, I was eager to put this drive to the test, and it did not disappoint. First and foremost, the X9 Pro boasts lightning-fast data transfer speeds thanks to its USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. Whether I was transferring large video files, editing high-resolution photos, or running resource-intensive applications, this SSD delivered consistently rapid performance. With read speeds of up to 1050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1000MB/s, it significantly reduced the time it took to complete data-intensive tasks, making it an ideal choice for content creators and professionals. The build quality of the X9 Pro is top-notch. Encased in a durable aluminum chassis, it feels sturdy and capable of withstanding the rigors of everyday use. Its compact and lightweight design makes it highly portable, fitting comfortably in my pocket or laptop bag, ensuring I have my data readily accessible wherever I go. The inclusion of a USB-C interface is a significant advantage, as it not only ensures compatibility with modern devices but also supports Thunderbolt 3 for even faster data transfer speeds when used with compatible devices. Additionally, the drive is backward compatible with USB-A ports, ensuring versatility and convenience when connecting to a variety of devices. Crucial has also taken data security seriously with the X9 Pro. It includes AES 256-bit hardware encryption to protect sensitive data, giving users peace of mind knowing their files are secure. Setting up the encryption was straightforward, and it didn't impact the drive's performance. One notable feature is the drive's temperature and activity LED indicators. These LEDs provide real-time feedback on the drive's status, which can be especially handy when copying large files or managing multiple tasks simultaneously. In conclusion, the Crucial X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD excels in delivering exceptional performance, robust construction, and data security. Its USB-C interface ensures compatibility with modern devices, and its compact design makes it highly portable. While it may be a bit pricey, its impressive features and performance make it a compelling choice for those who demand speed and reliability in their external storage solution.

Sadly companies will just flood the market with junk and have no problem putitng their names and reputations on the line. Literally just got this hard drivr hours ago and it’s already refusing to mount and showing up in macOS as corrupt. Of course this is after I successfully migrated a whole partition from another drive over and then deleted said partition to free up space. Thankfully this was a secondary backup drive so the loss of data was mininal but will definitely be staying away from all Crucial/Micron products in the future - especially if you’re hoping to rely on it in case of an emergency.

One thing that most all of us gamers can agree upon is that games are getting larger and larger, despite the fact that those in the know keep telling us about proprietary technology that will go the other direction, it doesn't appear that is happening yet. The more recent games are averaging about 150Gb and so us gamers either delete and reinstall as needed, or we get more storage. Far easier to do the latter and so here we are. This is a very cool little product, and by little it's a good bit smaller than any SSD I've seen. The one I am replacing it with is about twice the size. Seriously this thing is about the size of a small wallet, or maybe even a credit card. It plugs in with either a USB-A or a USB-C. If you have the ability to then you will definitely want to use USB-C due to the speed upgrade you will get. Plugged this in and at first Windows 11 Pro didn't recognize it. I unplugged it and plugged back in and it recognized it. Once that happened then no further issues and honestly I believe that maybe I didn't get it all the way in the first time was all that happened, as I don't plug in and unplug many USB-C items in this day and age. Once I got it up and running it was time to load some games on it. I first installed Madden 26 and Baldurs Gate, both run very fast, very little noticeable wait time at all. I felt the SSD and it was not even warm so that's a great sign that there will be no throttling. Since I got this I have loaded it up with all sorts of games and it just handles like a dream. The small size will make it a definite hit for travelers and the speed will make it a hit for gamers and probably all but the most ardent video graphic editors. All in all I give this one five stars and hope this keeps me with some storage space for the upcoming holiday season. A really good, fast, little SSD!

I tried to use it for Time Machine backup (i.e., on a Mac), but it kept failing to complete, then dismounting itself, then corrupting itself. I thought maybe Time Machine was the culprit ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), but then I got similar errors when trying a different backup program. I eventually saw IO errors in the console which is Bad. That has me a bit concerned about Crucial's Quality control. I bought a Samsung T7 rugged SSD, and that is working great. I was probably unlucky, but in case this is part of a trend, I am posting. Best, Jason

I purchased this for a trip I was taking to the mountains. I was able to teanfer data to it the first day. When I returned later that evening to load more pics and videos on to the ssd I kept getting a corrupted drive error message. Fortunately I was able to salvage most of the data, customer service was awesome and returned it with no hassle.

The SSD failed on DAY ONE. It just died after transferring about 200GB of data. BestBuy "Geek Squad" cannot recover anything from it. So all the data was lost there's nothing I can do about it. Who would have thought a SSD can be LESS reliable than a spinning disk HDD I was trying to replace? I searched online and there are many people having the same failures. DO NOT BUY!

THE BREAKDOWN: The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB external SSD is a great lightweight, small form factor SSD if you are looking to be portable! This thing comes in measuring 2.5” X 2” x 3/8”. It comes with the drive itself and a crucial 10Gb/s USB-C to USB-C cable. The drive itself is made of aluminum so it will hold up to more situations than just your regular plastic drive. The bottom of the drive also has a rubber coating on it which helps it to stay on your lap or the table when in use. It is IP55 water and dust resistant and a drop resistance of 7.5feet/2 meters. The drive’s speed is exactly what you would expect from Crucial, it has read and write speeds up to 1,050MB/s and it also has 2TB capacity. This drive is exactly as advertised, plug and play. It is compatible with Window, Mac, Android, iPad, Linux, PlayStation, and Xbox gaming consoles via the included USB-C cable. PRO’s: - Read and write speeds up to 1,050MB/s - IP55 water and dust resistant - Small form factor CON’s: - None SUMMARY: Overall, this product worked as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they were in the market for a product like this.
