The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD is a tiny POWERHOUSE! This portable SSD drive is so small it literally fits in the palm of your hand. It is connects via the included USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen 2) cable. The cable is very short at about 9.44 inches, but I didn’t find that to be a hindrance at all. I would think that the short cable helps maintain the fast speeds. Simply plug the cable into the drive and plug the other end into your Windows PC, Mac, etc. and you’re ready to utilize its vast amount of storage immediately. There is no formatting to do. I found that copying and moving files to/from both my Mac and Windows PC was a breeze. I was able to load a program on the drive and use it directly from it. It was much quicker doing that than I had expected. I don’t have any video editing software yet, but this drive should allow me to do some editing directly on this drive. That would be convenient to be able to take the drive with me and so some editing on the fly. And having 256-bit AES hardware encryption, my They claim it can both read and write at up to 1050 MB/s. I have no way of measuring the actual speed - all I know is that this drive is blazing fast and at 2TB it can hold a ton of whatever it is that you want to store. They include some optional software, mostly to try to sell you something, but they do include a download of some back-up software which I have not used yet. Conveniently, this drive is dust & water resistant with a IP55 rating. I would HIGHLY recommend this Crucial X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD to anyone in the market for a BLAZING-fast, super light and small in form-factor but huge in capacity SSD.

The Crucial X9 2TB portable SSD drive is an excellent solution for storing lots of information, large files, and taking it with you. Transfers are extremely fast. The best thing is that you can easily put this in your pocket, or even attach it to your keys. It's about 3/4's the length of a credit card, and only 3/8" thick. Initially, I wanted to use this with my home security system, but for some reason the home base won't recognize it. But now I use it to store all the current PC games I play, and can take them from PC to PC at my house, and to my property up north. So I only have to download the game once, and then direct the game client to the Crucial X9 drive, and it finds all the games I have. This comes in really handy on my laptop due to limited space, and I haven't upgraded the OEM drive yet. I've also downloaded a bunch of movies to the drive and bring them with me up north too. This really comes in handy because there is not any internet companies that are in the area, and the cell phone signal is hit or miss up there. Planning ahead, and being able to fit a lot of movie options on this drive is a game changer for me. The only complaint I have is that it only comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable. It would be nice to have a USB-A to USB-C cable as well. Luckily I had one, and was able to make it work for the situation I have. If you looking for an extremely portable external hard drive with 2TB capacity, look no further. This is the drive you are looking for. Likes: 1.) Extremely portable 2.) The Crucial portable SSD model I have is the X 9 Pro series. This particular one is a two terabyte drive. The first thing I noticed when I opened the package is just how small this drive actually is. It seems that every time I upgrade my portable hard drives, they physical size just gets smaller and smaller. This one is really neat, in that it can fit in your pocket and you wouldn't even notice it being there. The only part of the drive that might annoy anyone would be the USB C cord used to connect the drive to the computer. The Crucial X9 pro does not have an IP rating for dust and moisture, however, the drive states that it is resistant to both dust and water on the packaging, so that should provide some level of comfort to those of us who may use this drive where it could encounter a small amount of thes elements. The drive comes with included software that can help secure the drive and has built in password protection. Like about anything else you buy nowadays, there are some trial software included on the drive, but that doesn't take up much space and can be removed. The read and write speed of the drive are both 1050 Mb/s and Crucible markets this drive for fast storage of photos and files. There are faster drives I am sure, but I have been happy with this drive so far with everything I have used it for, including some light gaming where the files where stored on this drive. This drive also comes with a 5 year warranty. So far it has been a great drive at a good price.

The crucial X9 Pro is a great external SSD that offers many benefits. When I first pulled it out of the box, I couldn’t believe how small this was, yet I was very impressed with the build quality. Measuring at 2.5 inches long, and no thicker than an iPhone 12 - this is the smallest external SSD I’ve seen yet. The housing has a very sturdy aluminum shell, and the bottom has a solid rubber matt, so it doesn’t slide around on your desk. The drive is very durable, it’s also waterproof in case of accidental spills. The X9 Pro is fast, it has read and write speeds of up to 1050 mb/s. I decided to test out the drive’s speed to see if I can run games directly off of it, and the results were incredible. I downloaded some of the latest FPS's on Steam and ran them directly off the X9 Pro, every game ran without a single problem of stutter. Load times were incredibly fast, and gameplay was smooth. Transferring files is also fast as well. Overall, I am really impressed with the Crucial X9 Pro. The build quality as amazing, I love how small it is, it really allows me to carry it anywhere with me in my pocket, or even on a key chain. With the fast speeds, I’m able to download games and play them directly off of the SSD and copying/ moving files are incredibly fast too. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an external drive.

Software needed to update the firmware is only available for Windows 11 and crashes after launching.

This is a 2 TB large capacity had drive that is much smaller than I expected. This makes it very portable. t comes with the hard drive and a usb type c to type c cable. The drive itself has a really nice design. It is sleek aluminum on the top and sides. The bottom is a rubber base, which helps to keep it in place while plugged in, and makes it a bit nicer to hold. It also offers some water and dust resistance, and is drop proof up to 7.5 feet. It also has a loop for attaching a lanyard - this could come in handy as the drive is so small. I haven’t tried the included encryption software - there are short cuts on the hard drive to download and install the software. The drive comes formatter at exFat, which should work for most people. Instead, I used my operating system for format and set encryption on the drive. This works best for my workflow, but I like that they offer the option to use their tool for encryption. Read and write speeds are right around 1050 MB/s, which is good for a USB Type C 3.2 Gen 2 connection. Compared to the competition, this is priced a bit higher but offers the same performance. If the smaller size is important this would be the one to get.

This is a nice little compact portable hard drive. For some reason I thought it was going to be bigger. It is very compact at only 2.5” x 2” and about ¼” thick. You can easily throw it in your pocket or purse or briefcase to take it with you on the go. I fount it to pretty much be plug and play on my Windows PC and Laptop. I don’t have any Mac computers to test it on, so this review is for Windows only. Both of my machines are running Windows 11. I plugged it in and it was easily able to see the drive and I was able to read and write to it. So if that’s all you need to do, you are good to go! I didn’t have one problem trying to use it with the Storage Executive software which is supposed to allow some extra features of the drive. I tried multiple times installing and re-installing the software on both my desktop PC and Laptop and it would never recognize that the drive was connected. So, if you are buying this with the hopes of using those extra features, buyer beware! I did contact their support and they gave me a huge list of very detailed information they wanted about my PC and the specs and configuration of different parts and I really didn’t want to bother with all that since it worked just fine as a regular hard drive and that’s the way I will use it. So I will have to dock it a point for that. Otherwise it’s a great and fast portable hard drive!

Great product. Perfect size being as compact as it is. Great speed with usb-c, perfect for a gamer that is running out of space or just backing up your data. Got it on sale as well so it was an even better purchase then I thought. Highly recommmended for anyone needing fast, reliable compact storage.

The Crucial X9 Pro Portable SSD is small, fast, and convenient — especially if, like me, you have a laptop with limited hard drive space. Disclaimer — I’m not as technologically adept as probably most of the folks reading this. I’ve learned a lot from something that really, in hindsight, is quite simple. I can only imagine that most of you know to first format a new drive like this, and then you’re good to go. I didn’t. So, I opened the small, compact packaging and proceeded to read the extremely short instructions. Crucial told me to go to their website and follow the “step-by-step install guide.” This guide does NOT exist. There are install guides for the internal SSD’s that Crucial sells, but not for the X9. The website itself seems to be a glorified ad for all of their different products and enhancement downloads. Not impressed. I did, however, try a suggested loading of their “Crucial Storage Executive,” thinking that maybe it would help with my setup. This added a dashboard of commands and utilities to the X9. This may be a great feature for some, but not for me. (It didn’t even properly read the specs of the X9, only reading the specs from the laptop) Hmmm. When I connected the drive to my laptop, it wouldn’t let me drag and dump anything. It said that there was no drive detected. Put yourself in my technologically-deprived shoes, and imagine my frustration. It was time to click on the “chat” button… After explaining my journey to this point, the rep from Crucial asked if I had formatted the SSD. I put myself out there and asked how I was supposed to have known to do that? (Now, I know this is where a lot of you are thinking, “Duh!” In my defense, shouldn’t even the limited “instruction” sheet have mentioned this…instead of leading me towards more ads for additional Crucial products? I digress.) The rep patiently guided me through the formatting process on my Windows laptop. Perfect. Now I could drag and drop files to the X9. But wait, there’s more! When I got to my desktop at home and tried to work with the same files, it wouldn’t let me. You see, I’m one of those strange people who uses a Windows laptop, but has a Mac for my home use — and I love them both. So…back to the chat button. The nice rep said, “Oh, that’s an easy one. You just need to format the SSD using ExFAT.” Lesson learned. In spite of all this, the speedy little X9 Pro is a blessing, seeing as how my laptop only has a 256GB SSD. Now I’m set for anything that comes at me when I’m away from home. I like the size, the build — with it’s aluminum (I think) casing, and non-skid landing surface. It’s also stated to be splash proof. What I don’t like is that the website is of no help (except chat), the suggested enhancement download doesn’t even recognize this little beauty, and there is no password protection as stated on the box. None at all. I’ve taken this to multiple devices now, at home and away, and all my files are accessible by simply plugging the X9 in. No password block/wall. It’s not a problem for my needs, but what if this got in somebody else’s hands? I’ve read that there may be some update coming from Crucial in Sept., 2023…? Still, this doesn’t seem right. Well, there’s the good, the bad, and the potentially ugly.

Best Buy never delivered the item. Time to look elsewhere.

So some background - I've been buying Crucial RAM ever since I can remember, back in the days when Macs were upgradeable. So, I've always been loyal to this brand and this time is no different. The first thing that struck me is how small and light the drive is. However, it's still imbued with some density, so it feels solid and not cheap. I'm in the process of slowly changing out my standard spinning hard disks connected to my Mac to solid state drives and that's where this Crucial comes in - I have a 2TB backup drive that serves its purpose, but is super slow when trying to access anything on the drive. Converting to the Crucial is like a night and day difference. Now, when I double click on a folder on the Crucial that is filled with tons of media, said folder opens almost immediately. This was not the case with my spinning drives - I would get the spinning wheel on my Mac while the folder struggled to access the data. That alone is worth it for me and has convinced me that I need to replace all my other spinning drives with similar Crucial SSD drives.

Fast, reliable, small package size, doesn't get hot, reasonable price, and has an actively light. This is the best external SSD I've used so far. I have only one complaint. It uses a USB-C ready cable and that is fine. However some devices still only have a USB-A connector. For the amount of money it should come with a USB-C to USB-A adapter. That is my only complaint, and I still give it 5 stars. That adapter probably costs a $1 to make, but when you want to buy it by itself, it sells for $10 or more. It should come with that adapter (and most other manufacturers supply it) to make it a perfect product.

I was looking for an external stoarage for an xbox and a worker helped me. He was saying how the storage device works with xbox, but didn’t say how you need to buy an adapter with it. I bought two different adapters one was usb 2.0 and one was usb 3.2 and it says you need to have a usb 3.0 or higher. I tried it and never worked. I tried to return it for store credit to get a different one but the worker said I can’t get it returned even though I had the receipt and only had it for 8 days and had no damage what so ever.
