What a precious little external ssd. Absolutely darling! I cant believe how tiny these things have gotten. In my day youd need a whole room to store 2TB. (I was recently revived from a coma i fell into in the early 1960s.)

The Crucial x9 Pro is small and compact. It's is constructed well and is water and dust resistant. The bottom of the case has non-slip rubber and the case is thin. It also has an activity led inside a cutout on one corner of the case. It's has a USB-C 3.2 gen 2 port and it comes with a short USB-C 3.2 gen 2 cable. I used the SSD on two different computers and I was able to get at most 680 MB/s read and 470 MB/s write. It is advertised to get up to 1050 MB/s read and 1050 MB/s write. I was not able to get that out of the SSD on either of the two systems I used. The SSD I have works, but I'm not sure what may be causing the slow speeds. Regardless, the speeds I did get are enough for me to use this as a storage drive for games and to use it with my laptop as a storage drive while out away from my desk. If I'm out with my laptop and need to transfer data from a memory card to the SSD, the speeds are fast enough that I won't have any issues there. Also, the read speeds are faster than a SATA 3 SSD, so I won't have any issues with this being used to store and run games off of this drive. Pros: Compact Thin USB-C Cons: Speed Short USB-C cable It's a small SSD with faster than SATA SSD read speeds and is on part with SATA SSD write speeds. If that fits your needs, then consider the Crucial x9 Pro. The x9 does fit some of my needs even with the less than expected read/write speeds.

I do like the external hard drive. The size is great. It takes up almost no room at all. However, you can't plug your flash drives directly into the external hard drive and the cord doesn't support the flash drives either. It adds another step for what I need it for.

I like it. I’ve been using this external drive for a while now, and it’s been great. The setup was super easy—just plug it in and it’s ready to go. Transfer speeds are fast, whether I’m moving large video files, music projects, or just doing backups.

I've been relying on the Crucial X9 Pro to handle my video editing file backups, and I must say it's been a worthy investment. When dealing with hefty video files, its rapid read and write speeds combined with the convenience of the USB-C interface have significantly slashed the time it takes to transfer data, and at this point I've even started storing some main libraries on this without any performance decline. I also appreciate its rugged and robust design that lends a sense of security – I often carry it around in a backpack, and knowing that it can withstand a bit of rough handling is nice. In a nutshell, the Crucial X9 Pro has emerged as a dependable and high-performing external SSD catering to the needs of video editors and content creators like myself. Its speed, sturdiness, and data security features coalesce to offer a compelling solution for maintaining the safety and accessibility of video projects, both during travel and in day-to-day usage. If you're in the market and you want something that's not big, has excellent capacity then look no further!

I bought this as a backup drive for the hundreds of thousands of files of all types that I’ve accumulated. I wasn’t going to buy it since Crucial deceptively claimed password protected hardware encryption when they have yet to issue the software to make it work. The encryption options on other brands have some issues as well, and since I recently upgraded to Windows Pro, I opted to buy this drive because of it’s small size and use Bitlocker for encryption. Previously I used the very good, free and open source Veracrypt on all my drives, but Windows 11 inexcusably trashes the Veracrypt boot loader with every monthly update, so I gave up fighting with it. Microsoft could play well with Veracrypt if it wanted to, or they could be decent and make Bitlocker available on all versions of Windows, but user security is clearly not their priority. I hate Windows 11. All that said, Bitlocker To Go with Windows Pro works seamlessly for external drives, although it’s not clear that it takes advantage of the Crucial hardware encryption. The drive itself is shockingly tiny and weightless, even though I knew the dimensions in advance. It feels sturdy enough, but given it’s cost, probably best stored in some sort of protection. Despite the many complaints about the short cable, I have no problems with it, and, given the size of the drive, a longer one with add too much bulk. Even the short cable feels a bit bulky as it’s rather stiff. It works fine otherwise. I use it with a Thunderbolt 4 port, and overall the drive feels fast, but I expected it would be somewhat faster. File size makes a big difference, as do sustained transfers. Speeds reported by Windows varied from under 100mbs to over 500. It never came near the maximum rated speed. The drive only gets slightly warm, and I suspect that the thermal management is aggressive. The transfer graph shows lots of peaks and valleys, and a few pauses. Bitlocker may take a toll as well. I experienced no disconnects, unlike the many I get with other SSDs in cheap external cases. So far I’m pretty happy with the drive, although not with the price, which was lower in the past. There are cheaper alternatives for those on a budget.
