Customers are saying

Customers recognize the HD Wi-Fi Camera's excellent camera quality, ease of use, and effective night vision as significant strengths. Many also appreciate its reasonable price and wide field of view, although some experienced difficulties with initial setup and occasional connectivity problems. A few users mentioned challenges with the app and the need to purchase an SD card separately. Overall, the positive feedback on image quality and usability outweighs the reported issues with setup and connectivity.

Love the camera size, picture quality is about right of the price paid for. Set up was easy.

I got this cam as i was unsatisfied with a different brand with literally no features. But this camera has all i wanted, record on sound or motion, email notifications, time schedules so that you can have it start automatically when you are not home and turn off when you are. even night vision.

Wanted a simple webcam that I could watch using my smartphone; didn't need any extra features EXCEPT I did want one that had local storage capabilities using an SD card If you want local storage options for recordings, this works great. The wide angle gets a lot of visibility and has eliminated the need for a second camera for our downstairs

Quality hardware - awful software - worthless

The good: The video quality is pretty good. Especially considering the price and size of the camera. Can record night vision well also. The bad: The setup is terrible. It took me a half hour the first time because of the instructions incorrectly telling me that an LED would blink blue when it was blinking green. Once I figured out the mistake, I was able to complete the setup with only a reasonable level of difficulty. I could only get it to work with the WPS button. It could not connect to my router with just the password for some reason. It also seems to require being completely re-setup each time it is turned off. So be prepared for a 10 minute setup every time you turn it back on. This amount of difficultly is worse than a typical security camera but it would have been manageable. The awful: I literally cannot get it to record. And not because anything is wrong with the camera. Their software is the issue here. I have a desktop computer AND a phone with the moble app. But neither of these are acceptable for D-Link. Within the app it tells you to use the web GUI to set up recording. What? Why the heck is that even a thing? Anyway, whatever. I open Firefox Moble on my phone and sign into my account. It says I need to download a toolbar for Firefox to use their website. However it's incompatible with Firefox Mobile so whatever, I switch to Chrome mobile. On Chrome it just loads and loads and never takes me anywhere. So I go to my desktop computer. From there I re-sign into the website, and failure again. This time I don't have a compatible operating system for their website. So unless I feel like switching back to Windows I am at a dead end. I just want the thing to RECORD like it advertises right on the box! If I can't do that with my phone or my computer (which it really should be possible to do with neither), then something is seriously flawed with your product. D-Link's software and mobile app are so awful that it renders this camera with good hardware completely worthless to me. I will be returning it tomorrow. I'm glad Best Buy is good with returns.

Once I understood that the camera does not record unless you set it to sound and motion detection it was much easier. You can view what the camera sees at anytime from your phone or laptop if it's in real time. For past times, you can view the recordings from the phone app or laptop. It only records in one or two minute clips, ONLY if you set it to record with sound and motion. Very basic, does show a fairly wide area but doesn't pan and tilt, it will zoom in to any area that is within it's field of view. The only major problem is that it is pretty sensitive to motion, as it picks up someone walking behind it, and you get alerts on your phone very frequently and most are false alerts of the dog walking behind where the camera is set up.

I had the Closeli Simplicam prior to this, but their customer service became nonexistent. This D-Link was an affordable replacement. I like the fact that it can record locally and you don't have to pay for cloud storage. Set-up was not a smooth process. I had to call customer service twice as the camera kept losing connectivity to my wifi. Customer service was slow, but eventually helpful. I still haven't decided if I will return this camera because one continuing problem is that I can't seem to access the playback files. I can view live video fairly reliably, but if I try to watch anything recorded, the app can't access those files. Not the most user friendly interface.

I tried several cameras and this one has the best recorder of all. When an memory chip is installed (extra purchase), it is constantly recording. When the camera detects motion, it stores 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after the motion with a date and time stamp. Other cameras we tested trigger with the motion and record AFTER the event. This one records BEFORE the event, which is great. The image is not that great. The wide angle is not wide enough. But it gets the job done. The app is easy to use. I do not like that the memory is stored in the camera, someone can just pull it out and take the information. The DLink recorder only controls unto 4 cameras. It is portable, we can just move them around the house, checking on pets, etc. Overall, we are all very happy with them.

Works great. I would say the sensitivity on the motion detection is to sensitive as when I turn all the way down it still picks up movement when it switches from night vision to day. Apart from that it works great. I could check my apartment from the other side of the world.

I have a number of wireless cameras around the home to keep track of things. Don't really need DVR function, more to see if garage door is open, lights left on, etc. This unit was easy to setup and picture quality is very good. Having the ability to set ports, open to a current web browser is a plus. About the only negative I can see is the app for iPhone and or the location of the device on WiFi is a little slow. Interesting the web interface is fast as any other of my cameras, so I really don't think it's the WiFi. Anyway, I will be purchasing more of these, since some of my old Linksys WVC80's are getting a little dated.

I chose these cameras for my home security set up and they work well. Setting them up however is frustrating at best. I wanted cameras that did not require me purchasing “cloud” access and these fit that need. They have slots for micro SD cards and with the latest software update you can even record to a smart phone using the app. They have motion and sound detection capabilities and both are adjustable through the phone app. If the installation process was better I would give these 5 stars but I would only recommend these to a tech savvy and patient friend.

This camera does the trick. It is relatively cheap and very user friendly. There are better ones out there with way more options but if you are looking for very simple and easy to use, this is a good choice.

I bought this camera based on the price point and the name brand. It was a bit difficult to set up as is the case with most wifi products that require a second device such as your phone. The iOS phone app is relatively straight forward and easy to navigate. It does require a separate micro SD card to record, otherwise you can only live stream. Picture quality is sufficient at 720p, inside. If you will be using this for outside security I highly recommend at least 1080p with a strong night vision array and the highest fps you can afford. Overall I'd buy this product again for a single location camera. If you are looking for a home security system, it does not appear that this will tie into additional cameras or DVRs.

For the cost, these cameras work great. They do the job that we wanted much better than the "high price" units. The units are very easy to set-up, and the "help" on-line, and via phone is a big plus too.

I purchased this camera as a supplment to my Canary camera. What I found is that due to the quality of the Canary camera, this camera just did not live up to my expecations. Had I not purchased the Canary camera first then I may have kept this one. What I did like about the camera was that is was Small, Tilte Features, Black Color, Easy to Install. What I did not like was Picture Quality, Camera is ALWAYS recording, A SD Disk is required to store/play previous video recordings, Mobile Interface.

I was looking for a simple setup that would give me the ability to watch the front and back entryways of my house from the inside. I am very happy with these cameras, as they have given me that ability. The picture has been clear, the sound clear, and they have worked every time I've chosen to view them, whether locally or remotely. The wide angle lens does give me a much larger viewing area than I would have anticipated. I haven't purchased the memory cards yet, so I am only viewing when I choose to. But, I set alerts so that when a noise or motion is detected, I get an email immediately, and when my cell phone email alert sounds, i can immediately check the cameras to see if anything is going on. You can sent the sensitivity for sound and motion, as well, so that if you have a pet at home walking around and don't want to receive an email every time he gets some water (or chases the cat!), you can set it for a lower sensitivity. You do get a lot of emails this way, but I created a folder just for those emails, because all I really wanted was the alert tone associated with the email so that I knew to view it. I will be purchasing the memory cards, though, as that makes the most sense for my purposes. In any case, I'd love to finally catch the cat in the act of opening the treat drawer, jumping in it, and trying to tear open the bag of treats, as he's done before when I'm not at home!) The only reason I did not give the cameras five stars is that they were a bit cumbersome to install. The wifi did work great once I figured it all out, and I haven't had any random disconnects from wifi, but installation was not a breeze. I wound up calling customer care at one point. Also, these are not wireless, which would be very nice, but, as I said, I was not looking to spent more than I did, and these work excellently for the price. I would recommend these to a friend, as long as they definitely did not want a wireless camera.

We just needed a basic camera to see when someone was coming in the house. It detects motion as well as noise. My dogs barking sets off the noise detection. Also sends an alert for both to my phone.

I bought this so I could check on my mother at night while I was at work. She had a stroke and a blood clot and I was uncomfortable leaving her alone at night. This works great. I check on her with my phone and the picture is really good and it has sounds if you need to hear what is going on. I would recommend this to anyone that is need of checking out a person or house. I had trouble setting it up with my wifi so I called the number of the help line and they walked me step by step threw the set up process. I would buy this product again.
