Customers enjoy the sleek design of the Contemporary 36" Built-In Gas Cooktop, frequently praising its appearance and how well it integrates into their countertops. However, some customers have reported issues with the knobs, citing instances of breakage. The durability of the knobs is a point of concern for some users. Overall, the cooktop's aesthetics are a major selling point, but the longevity of the control knobs needs improvement.

Absolutely hate it and very upset. I had a Dacor range for 20+ years and it was amazing. Cooked perfectly, nice powerful burners, sleek design and super easy to clean. Looked as good as new and cooking hundreds of meals. Moved to a new house and immediately ordered the Dacor cooktop because I felt so loyal to the brand. Had to have my granite cut larger to fit the new cooktop. The item is not what is pictured online. The pictures give the appearance of a brushed stainless surface that is easy to clean. The unit is as shiny as a mirror. It takes longer to clean and polish the unit than it doesn’t to cook the meal. We don’t even want to use the cooktop now because cleanup is such a project. I would never wish this on my worst enemies. I am so upset because I can’t even put my old unit back in because the counter had to be cut for this unit. Also beware that the built in look comes at a price/ had to cut the whole drawer under the unit becasie the unit sits so low and the gas regulator connections hangs so low it will interfere with drawers. Lastly, and this is even more of Dacor’s smoke and mirror game- the beautiful gold burner covers/ they turn brown almost immediately. Cooked one meal and had to replace them with the black covers that also came with the unit. Now this may not be a big deal for some, but some people may want the unit specifically because it is gold- and they looked like trash after one meal and are unusable. My GE Cafe unit was a dream to clean up. My old Dacor was a dream to clean up. I’m sorry but Dacor flat out lied about this unit in the photos and the descriptions.

Very good looking Cooktop. It sits flush to the counter top making it look even better. The cooktop comes with Black porcelain and Brass burner caps. The brass burner and caps will change color after brief use so the brass caps can be used for show, while the porcelain caps can be used for cooking. The Smartthings app is not working so the one star is decreased.

Discoloration within days of normal use.

Installed this stove top 2/5 and by 2/9 the left side began to show some discoloration and rough surface. It became a headache to clean and now it is easily stained. The middle burner and right side burners are okay, and still have the smooth surface. Reached out to Dacor warranty services and they responded with an email stating they won't cover the issue because its cosmetic damage. It seems like the coating for the stove top wasn't applied correctly to the left side, which is a bummer considering this is supposed to be a quality luxury brand. Besides that issue, its easy to use and has worked as its intended to. Be prepared to make space underneath for the gas line and overall size of the stove top, it will take up a drawer. Wouldn't recommend this stove top at this price point for the quality. Looks great, but only before use. Provided pictures for reference.

Dont Count on the Brass Burner Caps

    Posted .

Don't be fooled by the brass burner tops. They are for decoration only. Do not think you can cook on them as they discolor on the first use. To replace one is $40-$65.00. Very poor to include them and not warn you ahead of time that they are useless and won't match the other appliances for very long. Per Decor: "It's normal for the brass caps to discolor. When you heat up the brass caps, the brass will patina. This is not a defect in our caps, it’s a natural element of brass. Our units are ship with both brass and porcelain caps. This does not mean that you cannot use them to cook, on the contrary, the brass holds heat better than porcelain. If you are concerned with the aesthetics of your unit, then you should use the porcelain caps for everyday cooking and the brass one for display."

I like the design and the fact that the flames can be adjusted to almost a candle. But I don’t like the finish of the surface. The knobs and the surface are very touch sensitive. They get fingerprinted easily. I just gave up cleaning.

I absolutely love this cook top and point it out to anyone who comes over. I never expected to get compliments on a cook top but it looks so great as it is flush mounted and just a very smart modern look. The only downside is that it's not the easiest to keep clean. Some of my colored pots and pans leave a little color or scuff on the grates that I have to wipe off as soon as it cools down. The grates are heavy and sturdy. The heat seems well distributed and the center burner really does heat up water faster than any previously owned cook top.

My wife likes the cooktop and it is very nice to look at. However, the knob broke into pieces after less than 2 years. Never had that happen to me before. May be it’s a bad piece or whatever. Hope the other knobs don’t go the same way.

Love the extremely low profile. It sits just a tiny bit above the counters. And having the controls on the side keeps them out of the way. The grates are very beefy and help to transfer heat. Really nice cooktop!

Bought this for my aging mother to replace a 50 year old stove top that used a pilot flame to light the burners. The reasons for this purchase was to provide her a stove that would automatically relight if the flame went out and the lighted dials in case she forgets it has been left on.

    The knobs WILL break

Cooks well. BUT, all the knobs have broken (just broke the last one). Dacor didn't reinforce the knob column with metal. I guess they thought plastic would last. The worst part is the Dacor Illumina knobs are practically impossible to buy, and I bet if you could they would be $100 a piece. We've had the unit for about 3 years and we babied the last two knobs and they still eventually broke. Guess I'll try to find a generic replacement set of knobs. Regret going with this brand.

This is a premium product, as they market it and also expensive. Unlike a car, complex product you expect the ignitor and also knobs to work! The ignitors were changed in about 1 year (lucky it was covered under warranty). One knob came off and right after warranty , another one broke. The problem is cheap and flimsy knobs for a premium product and that costs around 70$. A dollar store knob would perform better than this! We are now talking about this to go bad and so can buy another one.

    Beatiful but Worthless

I've had my this stove top for 3 years. The gold lasted days before it starting looking awful. No amount of cleanning helps. Thankfully it comes with the black burner covers. After about 1 year the middle burner would not stop clicking when turned on. We stopped using that burner and now slowly over time two more burners click and never ignite. I'm finally paying for a appliance tech to come and hoprfully repair the isssues, but for a $3000 stove top, I expected to make it longer than a year without repair and for the gold finish to last. I would not recommend this product to anyone and will never buy another Samsung Dacor product. These were said to be the "top of the line" and that was a joke!
