    3 in 1 Solution - Smaller Footprint

    Posted .

---SETUP--- The setup for this device is unique in that it requires an app to be downloaded to you phone called Dario. This turns your phone into a Glucose Meter reader. What you get in the box is a lightning connector for iphones where you will insert the glucose strips. After reading the manual, I was ready for my first test in 10 minutes. ---FEATURES--- The key feature of starter kit is that it reduces the number of things you will carry with you to check your sugar levels on the go. All that you will carry will be a small plastic casing that serves three purposes: to carry your glucose strips, one sterile needle, and the lightning connector that reads the glucose strips made specifically for iPhones (model 5 or later). The overall size of the casing is about half the length of a dollar and about the width of two AA batteries side by side. ---PERFORMANCE--- The performance of this kit is based on your iPhone model. I connected mine to an iPhone X and it worked as expected. The reading of your glucose takes about 6-10 seconds and not once did it give me an error. The casing can be adjusted for several depth options for the needle to poke you. I was comfortable at level 3 while at level one, it didn’t even grace my finger. ---EXPECTATIONS--- The product meets my expectations. In the box, you will find 10 plastic bags. These bags are for you to insert your phone in them to protect the phone from blood splatter. I used one bag, but the manual says that the bags are recommended and not necessary for the app or lightning connector to read the strips. I didn’t use the bags again, as it seems silly to be carrying them around. I did enjoy that the app can also scan food items you consume with a barcode by using your phone’s camera. If you’ve ever used a smartwatch that keeps track of your calories, this works in a similar manner. However, I didn’t find that part of the app user friendly. The rest of the app, though, works great. There are some monthly plans that are optional but provide unlimited strips and 100 needles. The plans vary from 30 dollars a month (billed annually at 360 a year) to 85 dollars a month (billed annually at 1,020 a year). Alternatively, you can buy 100 strips at 69.99 a la carte. ---VALUE--- The price for the starter kit in terms of value is worth the investment if you check your glucose level on a consistent basis and on the go. ---APPROVAL--- I highly recommend this product for diabetics who consistently check their glucose daily but don’t want to be carrying an extra pouch with 2 or 3 different things. This is also perfect for people who may need assistance from a distance, as you can program the app to automatically contact a specific # if the person checking their glucose is either too low or too high (hyper or hypo alerts).

    Great test kit!

Very convenient design, easy way to have everything needed in a small practical design, the app is the best way to not only keep track of your glucose level but also to see the effect different types of food may have on your sugars, also what the impact of your insulin dose is on your levels as well. It has options to track your exercise and weight so it pretty much gives you a very broad picture of your health, as far as the lancets they are super thin which makes the poking much less painful than any other brand I have tried in the past overall i am loving this new device, highly recommend it!

Excellent Digital Glucose Meter for iPhones

Dario Blood Glucose Meter kit came with Glucose Meter with Built-in lancing device, 100 sterile Lancets, 100 Blood Glucose Test strips along with Quick guide and user guide. After reading quick side and user guide, i was able to configure my profile in iPhone app. It is very small size smart glucose monitor. I was able to measure the blood glucose very easily and it display the results less than 6 secs. The results are very accurate after a week of usage. The amount of blood drawn is very less as well. All the readings are captured in the profile which can be seen at any time. I love the fact that it does not require any batteries and all power coming from the phone. The Dario system is simple to use and has a compact design which changes the landscape of what a typical blood glucose meter looks like. The Dario’s all-in-one device along with free application lets you test blood glucose levels in seconds, quickly and accurately, directly on your smartphone. It connects directly with lightning port and there is no extra cable is needed. The results are rapid speed and very accurate as well. It has a feature to trigger emergency hypo alerts with GPS location. Hypo alert is an excellent feature. Once enabled on your smartphone, this feature will send a text message to up to four people with not only your blood glucose level, but also with a link to where you are (using google maps). Another great digital feature is the automatic record of your entire diabetes history. You will never have to download your meter again. You can simply send your logbook, time-line and charts as well as statistics via email in excel or PDF format directly from the application to your healthcare team. Dario includes a database with activities ranging from walking, biking, and golfing, to skiing and running. It also has features which allow you to easily tag your meals and moods, whether you are tired, stressed, or traveling, just to name a few. It is super feature as both physical activity and your stress levels and emotions affect your blood sugar levels. Dario automatically keeps a record of your entire diabetes history. It is easy to monitor your progress by easily accessing your logbook, timeline and charts at the tap of a button. You will never have to download your meter again. It will work most of the iPhone models from iPhone 4S, 5, 5S, SE, 6, 6 Plus, 6 S, 6 S Plus 7 8 X all versions. I highly recommend Dario Blood Glucose meter to anyone to keep track of glucose readings digitally.

A good option for tracking glucose tests

    Pros mentioned:
    Ease of use, Portable

I’ve used many different glucose monitors over the years and while they typically are a 4-step process (power on - insert test strip - add drop of blood - read results), I’ve had difficulties with them in the past. This kit was fairly easy to set-up even with the additional steps involved. Because this kit works with a mobile app, you have to attach a transmitter to the Lightning port of your phone (if using an iPhone) in addition to inserting a test strip and lancet for producing a blood droplet. I felt that the steps were self-explanatory and easy to follow. USER EXPERIENCE Using the monitor is simple. You do have to download a mobile app in order to get your test reading, but I don’t see that as a problem. The testing equipment seemed to function normally for me, but I didn’t test it side-by-side with another system. It’s very portable. The main unit will store test strips and the transmitter dongle, but not the lancets. That said, it is small and can easily be carried in a pocket or a purse. It would be nice if a small pouch was included so that you could easily carry lancets along with the tester. I really like that this device is designed to track and store your glucose tests. That said, it does ONLY work with the mobile app. I didn’t see this is a problem because my main reason for wanting this model was to track my tests. I love smart medical devices that catalog information in an app to be shared with medical professionals. This is actually a fairly affordable option for doing that with glucose testing. CONCLUSIONS I’ve been asked by my doctor to watch my blood sugar levels periodically because I have hypoglycemia. I’ve used the drugstore glucose monitors and they just seem to be overly complicated and I’ve had a lot of trouble with those machines even capturing my data. The Dario tester has been easy to use and I’ve not had any issues with it reading my blood tests. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to carefully monitor their testing progress.

Help When I Didn’t Know Where to Look

My grandma has diabetes and for all of us in the family it gets harder and harder to be able to help her from a distance. The Dario is so compact it is going to fit in her bag everywhere she goes. Setup was pretty simple, and showing her the app was just as easy. I was so at ease to find out that information from the Dario monitor can be shared with family and with her physicians. In her older age she forgets a lot but she knows she has to monitor her health and so the fact that this helps track her health it goes above and beyond, leaps and bounds! Pricking herself isn’t fun at all but it is good to know that she’ll be able to see when she checked herself last. Technologically it is savvy, compact, easy to store and sleek looking. Also, she mentioned it feels good to be the cool granny with a blood monitor that doesn’t scare little ones or hinder what fits in her bag.

Very easy to use. Compact. Accurate when compared with lab results. They are a bit more expensive that other brands, but they work perfect. Readings are easy to take/log. It works great with my IPhone X. It is really quite intuitive and accurate. Recommend if you want to keep track of your levels. Test strips are very expensive though:

    Very portable, very few drawbacks

    Ease of use, Features, Portable

Everything needed to perform one test fits securely in the case. The case easily fits in a pocket, is very light and easy to use. It has a compartment that holds a 25 pack of test strips, but no lancets. No battery is used in the kit. Nothing is needed other than lancets, tests strips and a device to run the application to display and record the data. You need to be one test away from your supply of lancets. One lancet can be inserted and the cap put back on. However, it must be pushed down so the spring is compressed so the cap will fit on. Even then it just barely goes on. Having the spring compressed constantly will likely weaken the spring over time. If you only carry a half pack of test strips, you can fit a second lancet in with the test strips. A lancet is placed in a spring loaded holder. A button on the side releases the lancet to pierce your finger. The spring tension has 4 settings. On its highest setting, I still had to squeeze my finger a bit to get the very small drop of blood needed. A few times I had to repeat using the lancet. The strip reader around the Lighting plug needs a bit of room, so some bulky phone cases may not work. My Apple leather case posed no problem. The test scripts I received have a long life in that they do not expire for 19 months. The app is a free download, is very easy to use, yet is full featured and can collect large amounts of different data. It holds past readings, date, and time. You can also enter also information including fasting/meal, insulin, how many carbohydrates, your physical activity, weight, and mood. You can view the data as a logbook, timeline, chart, and view statistics. You can also send the data as a PDF or CSV file to doctor or other contact on your phone. My only complaints are that it only holds 1-2 lancets and that the spring loaded lancet could be a bit more powerful.

    Way Better Than Expected

    Pros mentioned:
    Accurate, Features

PROS . Small and discreet . Useful app features, especially the on demand-sharing . No batteries required . Very accurate in my tests CONS . Completely dependent on your phone, the app and internet connectivity . Useable only with Dario test trips I was looking forward to having this in my hands because it sounded practical. It actually is pocket size and comes with everything that you need, including the strips in a cartridge. It is an all-in-one device as long as you have your phone with you because your phone is the screen. It is not only because of the size but the whole design makes it very discreet. People will not be asking what it is or even imagine what it is for unless you tell them. My recommendation is that you use this - just like any other glucose meter - as an aid, not as a replacement for visits to your healthcare provider. That being said, my experience so far shows that it is very accurate. Because I am in the healthcare industry, I was able to test it alongside a more professional blood test this morning and the results were very close. I did follow the instructions carefully and that is what you should do as well. The Lightning male plug did fit well with my case but it seems that it will have some issues with some types of cases. The app was not hard to figure out and is a requirement. Features in the apps that I like are the “on-demand sharing” to keep family aware if needed, and the GPS locator. It uses the GPS from your phone, of course, to provide useful information that could be used during an emergency. I do not need that since the only reason I keep track of my glucose levels is because some members of my family have diabetes and I want to prevent it but I can see how useful those features would be for somebody with a more serious issue. The bad news is that the app will have a hard time working if there is no internet connectivity. You do not need to carry many parts with you because the device has everything in it. The only thing extra you might need to bring with you is extra needles because it does not fit more than one at a time. The strips have to be Dario’s but they were specifically designed to work with your phone. Bottom line: it was practical, discreet, and accurate in my tests and I would recommend it to anyone.

Great gadget to keep track of your readings

I got this for my father-in-law who has Type I diabetes. For a 65+ year old, he is pretty tech savvy and when I gave it to him, he didn't need a lot of help setting it up given the detailed instructions. This was great because I assumed that i would need to set it up for him. I did end up helping him set up his account and adjust the settings, but for the most part he did it all himself. He set up the device and took his first reading and it was quick and relatively painless. He liked how portable it is and how easy it is to just leave in his wife's purse and take it out when needed. He is also checking with his insurance to see if the supplies are covered by his insurance provider. So far his readings have been in line with his normal readings using his existing meter, so it seems to be accurate. He is very happy with this meter and the only complaint he mentioned was that it will not work with his OtterBox Defender case. The case is a bit bulky so I went out and bought him a thinner case, although its not as protective against drops. So be wary of that when purchasing this, but all in all, it has been a good device for him.

Ive been using the Dario Blood Glucose monitor of 4 days now. So far I like it, but have one complaint. The spring loaded lancet is very hit and miss. I adjusted the depth all the way up to the highest number which is four, and have to make at least three attempts before I can get it to penetrate the skin. But other than that I have no issues with the device. It is easy to use, and the instructions are very good. I downloaded the app, signed up for the required account and took my first reading. The device gave me a reading that is consistent with my normal readings. The nice thing about the device is that 100 test strips and 100 lancets were included which will give me adequate testing and time to determine if this is a long term solution for me. I would certainly recommend it for those who need to monitor their blood sugar, but would just caution that the spring loaded lancet may be hit and miss which is kind of a disappointment for me at least.

    Good concept

    Pros mentioned:
    Compact, Ease of use

I appreciate technology stepping up to provide easier solutions for everyday health needs. However, the design of this product misses the mark just a bit. The compact design is one that should make for easy use; however, the lack of storage for the extra lancets is a bit of a turn down. Loading a lancet is also a bit frustrating, unless you have small fingers. The first three loaded lancets all bent when I attempted to remove the needle cover, requiring me to replace them with a new lancet. Then, the strips are a bit too flimsy, resulting in an error when I tried to place my finger on the blood spot. I wasted two test strips just trying to get blood, that was easily captured, but errored in the app because I touched it wrong. Some diabetics experience the shakes, which will result in you accidentally tapping the strip incorrectly, or worse, smearing blood on your finger trying to get a sample. Compared to other commmercially available solutions, at a much lower price point, you’ll find the execution on this test kit a bit lacking. It requires the use of your phone, and if your phone is dead, or out of reach, makes this a bit useless. On the positive side, the app is fairly easy to use, and immediately recognized the adapter and test strip being inserted. I was confused by the disposable plastic bags that come with this. Once you read the manual and watch the tutorial, you see that it’s to cover your phone screen. While this is great to protect your phone, it just isn’t practical on a daily basis to use. Plus, once you’re out, you have to buy more. This isn’t a kit I was able to find in any local drug store, so I’m not terribly sure where you’d get more of these covers. I wish this thing came with a carrying case. For all the added accessorie you need for it, it seems like a total miss compared to other devices you find at a drug store that comes with this. This has a very targeted market, but I have to say, being a person who loves new tech, this just left me wondering why I’d pay the premium over something I can find in a local grocery or drug store at a much lower price, and easier to setup and use. I’m not sure about you, but when my blood sugar decides to bottom out, the shakiness alone makes it frustrating. Add to that the delicate nature of the strips, the frustrating way the lancet loads, and the lack of a case to carry it all make this a hard pass for me. I’d recommend you look at something like the contour with Bluetooth connectivity that doesn’t require your phone to do the same things, unless you want the added features.

I am a RN and have used several meters in practice and at home and this is the new age version of a glucometer. It turns your phone into a glucometer! How handy is that?? Super easy to use assuming you are capable of using an app on your phone. I tested 4 fingers for 3 days fasting to see how consistent results were and results were all within a few numbers from each other. You can change the depth of the needle easily, holds strips, needle, and phone connection in the kit. Super convenient and accurate. Thumbs up

My wife is diabetic and we were hoping this would be a great option for her to test her blood sugar on the go. Sadly, once we got it, we realized this isn't the testing system for her. First off, my wife's phone is in a case. The lightning adapter doesn't work in a case, which would've been good to know. So when she wants to use it, she has to go through the steps to remove the LifeProof case. If you have any case like a LifeProof or Otterbox that adds bulks around the port, this won't work. If you use one of Apple's cases or a case that doesn't add bulk, or no case at all, then this might work better for you. For my wife, having to keep her phone out of her LifeProof case is a non-starter. When she tried to use the lancets, which are proprietary to the Dario unit, she bent several. She said they felt weaker, easier to bend compared to the lancets she has for her other unit we were hoping to replace. She used 3 of theirs and they wouldn't work, so she pricked her finger with one of her older lancets and was then able to get the Dario unit to read her blood sugar. The unit is nice that it carries everything, but you'll need to read the instructions, my wife didn't find it intuitive at all. She thought testing the strip on the phone with the App was cool. She liked the ability to save the results on her phone instead of writing them down. Additionally, it allows you collect other information, for example, how many carbs you ate. You can classify the readings as pre / post meals. You can also put other information, such as insulin you've taken, weight, activities you're doing. She really liked the App - but the lancets are weak. For someone that has to document their blood sugar all the time, the cataloguing in the App is nice, but the issue with her case and the weak lancets that you can only order from Dairo limit the adoption likelihood in our house.

    Pocket Sized Digital Glucose Monitor

If you have or know someone with Diabetes, you know testing, measurement, and tracking are key to keeping it under control. The Dario Blood Glucose Monitoring System paired with the free Dario app is a great way to accurately record and track your blood glucose. In the starter kit box is the Dario LC measurement kit and 10 lancets. There are no glucose test strips. So as a starter kit, you will still need to buy glucose test strips separately. To use this with your iPhone you need to download the free app. You can sign up with Facebook or using your email. I recommend using your email as I am not sure I would trust Facebook having potential access to any health data. Glucose Test: Aside from the brief pain of the lancet which is the same as any diabetes test, the difference is you put the test strip in the Dario test meter. The test meter is interesting. It's small, about the size of a USB flash drive cap and connects to your iPhone's lightning port. There is no need battery in the Dario, need to charge it, bluetooth, etc. The test meter also is separate from the test Dario main unit. So you're not trying to connect some awkward thing to your phone. Readings are taking quickly and automatically saved into the Dario app. Other things helpful to know. The Dario main unit has a place for holding extra test strips (they actually comes a little cartridge) but no room for a spare lancet. I do worry that I might lose the test meter (it's tiny) but it does lock in tightly. I like that the Dario app is free and there's no subscription for the features. As a carer for someone with Diabetes, I also like that I can monitor my parents diabetes test results from home and know they are testing and managing their condition. Recommended.

I had problems with the device at first, but I shut down the application and tried it again with no issues. My phone didn’t register it at first. This is a nice compact system. The only thing I would change would be to make the finger pricker a spring loaded device. I have calalces on my fingers from playing guitar so it was hard to draw blood with it.
