I have always loved the Dark Souls series, and Dark souls 1 was the best by far. When this game was announced, I initially was not too excited for it, but then I started to reminisce. I remembered all of the good times I had with this game, and the many hours it robbed from me that I'll never want to get back. I decided to pre-order and pick up this Remastered version, very excited to put it in and play immediately when I got home. Let's say this: It is EXACTLY as good as the original version. That's the best review I can give, because this game is almost exactly like the first version in every way, including the graphics. Sadly, this game falls prey to the phenomenon that happens to ALL memories of video games from the past, in that you remember them looking so much better. The graphics are from an era where this was considered good but not great, and in this era, the are nearly so painstakingly bad that it just about ruins the immersion. However, after about 4 or 5 hours of gritting my teeth and sticking with the blobby, fuzzy, and smeared graphics of the scenery, I became desensitized to it's atrociousness, and I don't even think about it anymore. There are a few new features, but I haven't had a chance to explore them. I've played this game so many times, I basically know what I'm looking for and what I'll get out of it as an experience, so those aspects of the game are immediately what I made for. This game is DEFINITELY worth playing if you HAVE NOT played the very first Dark Souls, as it was a masterpiece of a game. However, if you've already played it, and nostalgia is not knocking on your front door, skip it. Leave those memories looking pretty and intact, lest you lose them to the original game's clunky mechanics and smudgy graphics. PRAISE THE SUN!

if you've never played a souls game, then this will take some getting used to. If you've only played Dark Souls III or Bloodborne or Sekiro, it will still take getting used to. But, like all of the souls games, it is deeply rewarding when you do. The journey is as important as the destination and the game is constantly pulling you in to search every corner and find every item. It also has epic boss fights that are punishing to the uninitiated. The only complaint is it moves very slow compared to the quicker pace of say Bloodborne. Some may prefer the more deliberate pace though so, to each there own...

This is the same game you know, but vastly improved visually. Get it for 1080p plus on PS4 Pro.

“Dark Souls is a very good game and the remastered shows that. It cleans up the game's textures and performance, while adding small tweaks to the online experience. Things work now where they didn't before while the core gameplay experience still resonates.” -Kotaku

Has there been a more influential video game released in the past 10 years than Dark Souls? This game is so good, it's title became a description of quality in and of itself ("This game is the Dark Souls of ___," " This game is Dark Souls-like," etc). This remaster doesn't add much new content, but luckily this game doesn't need much added; it's perfect as is. This is a must-play.

TL:DR - Painful!! But in a fun way? Not for casual gaming. Graphics are a bit dated, but didn't bother me. Great for those who like to really invest time and practice into a game. It is fun, especially once you get hang of it, but it is unapologetically punishing and constantly throws harsh situations at you to keep you on your toes! Not for casual gaming where you just want to relax for a little while. Definitely not. As for graphics, that's a so-so. They are improved in the remaster, but it still shows its age a bit. Still, I enjoyed it! Dark souls 3 is the best tho!

Since I missed the boat on Dark Souls in the last console generation, I was glad to see it remastered for the PS4. The updates visuals look great, and it's definitely a wake up call to GIT GUD at gaming. Brutal difficulty at times, but man ksnit worth it when you finally triumph after repeated attempts. Can't wait to pick up and plays Dark Souls 2 and 3 next.

It says remaster in the title but this is not a remaster. It's the original dark souls with the dlc included and using a mod from the PC version that was originally made from modders not the developers. It runs at 1080p and 60fps which is great but still looks like s 360 or ps3 game just more polished. If you never played Dark Souls before, play this. If you have played dark souls before, dont bother. None of the original problems have been fixed.

I've played Dark Souls for years.(3 is still the best) the upgrade in graphics made the game smoother than the original. The sound is significantly more clear and emersive particularly when using headphones. Yes I still died a lot but that's this game and I appreciated the victories that much more.

If you've never played a "souls" game before, there's no better place to start than here. This RPG is hard as nails, has lots of customization options, and is now even more graphically enhanced for current hardware. If you find yourself struggling with this one, all I can say is "git gud".

Came from Bloodborne and began getting into the Souls series. Dark Souls has been an amazing and challenging experience for me, with so many classes and challenging areas to navigate through and so many secrets, I can highly recommend this game to those who are up to the challenge!

Great game, quite the challenge for even seasoned veterans never played the games before so thought id start the series from the beginning. So far its been tough but can be quite rewarding when youve beaten your task or boss worth the money and decent upscaling for graphics to an old game

Dark Souls is an influential game that still rocks the gaming world today as it did back in 2011. Now with 4K/60fps, and many other improvements, this is literally the best way to experience Dark Souls. Veterans will find this game familiar but newcomers beware as this game is not for the faint of heart.

Beat it many years ago and it's just as hard as I remember. Picked it up because I realized I didn't have this one to go along with 2 and 3 on my ps4. Although these games are not for everyone they are legendary if you like a challenge so grab it if you like hard games.

I played the original dark souls on the XBOX 360 and loved but the game had its problems, such as delayed inputs, clunky combat and of course the infamous Blighttown frame drop. The PS4 remaster looks and feels great. The frame rate drops have fixed which makes the game run at a constant 60fps. The combat feels smooth which allows for a better experience. Whether you are a returning player or new to the series, I definitely recommend you pick this up.

I loved the original game that came out back in 2011 for the PS3. The remastered version of this game polished the graphics and gameplay mechanics. I bought this game when it was on sale for 20 bucks. I highly recommend for new or old gamers to get this game.

If you are new to the series this is a great entry point. For those of you seeking higher quality graphics you will not find it here. Biggest improvement and the reason that you should be playing this game is the 60 frames per second. Different textures are looking better but most textures look about the same except for in high definition. Seasoned veteran should not be shocked at the low-quality of this remaster.
