Collectable 3D Movie

This reboot just gets better with each new episode. The 3D is first rate, up there with "Avatar" and the Hobbit movies.
The story is a little weaker, but Andy Serkis and the other "virtual" actors turn in first rate performances...too bad Gary Oldman chose to phone it in. I think he's getting bored with acting, maybe he should take on the role of an ape in the next one. I hope there is a next one and it's in 3D.
If you liked the reboot, I recommend this. If you are collecting 3D blu-rays, then don't miss out. Who knows when even Best Buy will decide to drop 3D content like they have devices.

Talking Apes, Epic Action, AND in 3D!

The remake, Rise of the Planet of the Apes had low expectations from the start, and proved to be an epic masterpiece. Now along comes Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a direct sequel to the first. Could it be better than the first? Well in this case, YES it can be!
The reason i believe that to be true is that you do not have to deal with a back story of whats happened. You are thrown right into the action of man vs. apes. AND its in 3D! The 3D quality for this film is excellent. Although most of the movie is dark and cloudy, the 3D and depth provides to be excellent!
Very recommended!

Overall, I give it a "Good" rating. Great realistic graphics and effects. Wish some of the cast of the previous movie were in this one. The movie was slow moving, but did keep my interest. The ending was a disappointment - it left you hanging - because you know that they will be coming out with another follow-on. The bonus material included with the bluray version, is well worth watching. The bonus material includes: Deleted scenes, Journey to Dawn, Andy Serkis: Rediscovering Caesar, Humans and Apes: The cast of Dawn, The World of Dawn, The Ape Community, Move Like an Ape: An Artist's Medium, Weta and Dawn, The Fight for a New Dawn, Audio Commentary by Matt Reeves (the director), Gallery, and Trailers. Running time for the movie is 130 minutes.

If you're a fan of the Planet of the Apes, this movie keeps your interest. Has funny scenes and also some that tend to sway you to begin to see things from Ceasars side. It seems as though they are becoming more human thinking which isn't always a good thing. I like that it leaves an open ending for another movie. They should just go ahead and make a 6 hr 4 episode movie that will actually tie everything together. You'll not be disappointed in the movie unless you're not a Ape buff. If you're not, don't get it. There are remnants of great humanity left in both species.

You already know about the movie so this will be a review of the disc itself. The audio and video quality on this disc is amazing, Fox did a great job on it. Deep rich blacks, high level of detail without being overly compressed and just the right color pallet for the scenes. Audio is 7.1 DTS HD-MA and it really shines with the rain and battle scenes, perfect amount of LFE without being gimmicky. Highly recommended not just to show off your equipment but to enjoy a movie in high quality. Huge selection of Special Features. Just add it to your collection now!

I was skeptical after the first of the current remake. How would they keep the intimate storytelling that the first one had. Well to my surprise, this was that and then some. The acting by none other than the actors in motion capture suits surpass even the human portrayed characters. That is not a criticism but an acknowledgement of how incredible the ape characters are and the writers of the film being able to convey a sense of familiarity for the viewer. By midway through the movie I had even forgotten that they were computer generated.

Plot and movie itself was entertaining. If you have not seen "Rise", it is recommended to watch it before "Dawn" because there will be a connection of the 2 movies, it is recommended but it is not a must. Cesar is definitely the boss.
The transfer to BluRay is fantastic. Images on both 3D and BluRay are extremely clear, and a must have if you enjoy watching on a full 1080P screen. Audio is terrific and will get your speakers a workout.

Being a huge fan of the original Planet of the Apes movies series, I cannot compare these new movies to the classics. Time and technology put these two sets of movies in very different categories and they should be appreciated for their distinctive merits. Dawn is richer and more satisfying than Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It's easy to get lost in this movie. The performances and dramatic visual quality of the movie bring this story to a different level than the classics. From the opening sequence of the extreme close-up of Caesar's eyes to the terrifying Koba, the viewer easily becomes immersed in this post-apocalyptic world and forgets that they are watching actors in monkey suits. Very well done.

This movie is so very well-done that I can't say enough about it! the human actors all do a great job with a really good story, but the true artistry comes in the actors who did the acting for the apes. Watching the animals move about, it's easy to forget they aren't real, because the movements and mannerisms are very authentic. I am so disappointed that the Academy won't recognize motion capture as real acting. Andy Serkis would win it several times! Shame on you, Oscar, for being so threatened by non-traditional acting! Great movie!!

I grew up watching the original Planet of the Apes movies with Charlton Heston & Roddy McDowell. I was obsessed with the movies and even the TV series (which was done very well for the time). I was concerned about the reboot, especially after seeing the Mark Wahlberg movie, but the following 2 have made up for it! This installment is amazing and explores quite a bit of how the Ape-Human War starts. Very good CGI with the apes and a great storyline! Watch this if you haven't, it's the worth the time out of your life!

This film not only was an inspiration, but an overall great film to see. I was looking forward to watching it again on blu-ray or dvd. I enjoyed everything it had to offer, great story line and the cinematography and coreography was amazing, not to mention the visual effects and the CGI that went into making this film. Overall, its a film I'll be watching over and over again. I do not regret making this purchase.

There's a lot to be said for a film where the CGI characters are better performers than the rather cliche human cast. Gary Oldman---stop chewing that scenery!! Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is pure eye candy. In a few minutes you'll believe the apes are real, feeling, intelligent creatures. The film has a few dull moments--think humans--but scenes like the apes swinging thru the forest or outwitting the human cast will have you cheering. An excellent addition to the Apes canon...I can't wait for the next one!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a huge surprise for me, I never thought I would love it as much as I did. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues the tradition of presenting non-human characters that feel just as developed and human as their smooth-skinned counterparts.
About the only thing that the movie could have done better was describe a little about what happened to James Franco's character, but admittedly that is pretty minor when compared to their plans for the franchise overall

I was surprised at how good the reboots have been for the original Planet of the Apes franchise and especially how much better this film was than the original reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. A great film whether you are a fan of Planet of the Apes or not. The blu-ray features excellent video and superb sound. No DVD included, but that's OK. Excellent price. Item was shipped very, very quickly and arrived undamaged. Overall, a very good experience.

This is the best looking version of this film I have ever seen--and I saw it in the theater in both 2-D and in 3-D (I even own the 3-D bluray). The 4k bluray of the first film looked very good but revealed the imperfections in the CGI work. No such imperfections are present to reveal in the dramatically superior CGI work done for this film. It looks INCREDIBLE! If you are a big fan of this film, this is the version to own!

When remaking classics, a filmmaker must walk a tightrope between patronizing and brilliance. This film not only gives us the flavor of the original five movies, but expands Caesar and makes his character multi-dimensional. He is a brilliant compassionate leader who preserves the rights of his race, serves as a liberator and makes us want to see him win. All Hail Caesar!

I was so expecting "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" after watching its previous movie "Rise of the Planet of the Apes". I already watched the original "The planet of the Apes" by Charlton Heston when I was young kid, and I was excited to see this series was re-booted from the beginning.
The story plot is great. Andy Serkis' real act shows the powerful "real" act. The supplementary package is excellent. I am look forward to the final ending of this new series.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. An outstanding, riveting sequel to the very flawed "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", the series continues to grow as strong and who ever said that sequels doesn't turn out better then the first one was obviously wrong! This movie brings the emotional and human side between the relationship of the Apes and humans and a battle that becomes civil war against one another I'm really looking forward to the third real soon a must buy movie.

I saw this movie in the theaters when it first came out and loved it. I recently purched a 4k Blu Ray player that does 3D play back and also wanted this movie. For the price paid it was a no brainer that I had to pick this one up. The plot is easy to follow-up and the costumes and special effects are awesome. Sound effects are out of this world and dialog is intelligible. Can's say enough about this movie especially in 3D.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a fantastic movie. Once I watched this film I was glued to my sit. Caesar continues to be the leader of the apes & he has a family to protect. Life is peaceful until Humans invade their homes then things turn for the worst. If you haven't seen the first film make sure to watch it before seeing this film. Trust me you will enjoy both films. They are really great. I cannot wait for the third film to hit theaters.
