My first Dell laptop and so far I am thinking it won't be my last. I purchased this laptop on sale.
For the cost, without the sale it is still cheaper than what Dell sells on website. With the sale it is honestly an amazing value.
It is extremely fast with the quad core AMD Ryzen 7 and 12GB dual channel ddr4 RAM and 256GB ssd. These specs are very good and at the current price you won't find a better deal anywhere than BestBuy!
Not only are the specs on paper nice but the laptop feels sturdy and well built. The screen is bright and very nice with a glass touchscreen. The sound is good with the only concern being bottom firing. The backlit keys have two light settings and turn off when not in use.
The laptop has plenty of ports and has an all aluminum build. I just got the PC so I haven't had a chance to test battery life completely but so far it seems to go about 5-6 hours heavy use and with the settings and brightness tweaked it should go to 8 hours.
The keyboard is responsive and feels good.
Overall my initial impressions are very good. This is an awesome device. Also because it has the AMD Ryzen 7 it is close to the latest gen core i7 from Intel but the integrated Vega 10 graphics are about double to triple the performance of Intel and close to the Nvidia mx150 dedicated graphics card. You can play games with decent settings on this laptop.
I highly recommend it to anyone. I don't understand the negative reviews. Try this for yourself and if you are on the fence just go for it!!

This is a great great Dell PC. Boots quickly. I recommend doing all the Dell updates. It fixes a keyboard and touch pad bug that happens when going from Tablet to PC. Also do the Windows update. Keep rechecking till both say no more updates. Love how Dell quickly fixes bugs found.
Connected to my 4K HDR TV. Love being able to watch TV and work on PC at same time.

10 days after purchase, we've now had three Dell technicians remotely try their magic, but the wireless card keeps disappearing. I'm attaching two photos...
My son needs to take this to college, so I think we're going to return it.
I'm connected right now though, at least long enough to write this review....

Hi shendison,
We'd recommend running Dell's Support Assist App to make sure that all of the current software and drivers are installed on your computer.
If you continue to experience connectivity issues we'd recommend running this troubleshooter:
1. Run the Network Troubleshooter. a) Touch and hold or right-click the network icon (Available Networks or Network Icon, located in the lower right-hand corner). b) Touch or click Troubleshoot problems and then follow the prompts.
We hope that this computer performs well for your son.

4.5 Star Basically my new desktop do it all

The hate is strong for this one.
I'm currently using this as my desktop replacement. I added a wireless mouse and wired keyboard. And use an external monitor.
Lots of storage 256 gb with 12 gb of RAM. This notebook/ tablet/desktop should last me in particular a long time.
A complainer mentioned the noise of the fan. The fan noise is audible when doing any gaming. And that's why I would give this product a 4.5 star review if I could. While web browsing or watching YouTube videos... if the fan is on I cant hear it.
I didn't have any luck finding a case that I think would adequately protect this product while maintaining mobility and ventilation of internal fans.
Considering everything this tablet/notebook/desktop is capable of and the PRICE it's offered at... I could easily rate this as a 5 star product.

So, for $699 I picked this up. The price was different in store compared to their app so I get the adjustment. Hours later the price is now +100 so yay me. Also, to have a AMD Ryzen 7 2400u with a 12GB and a 256 SSD for this price is just insane. Not an M2 SSD drive but I'm not working on it, this is for fun. After all updates including the BIOS firmware update and all scans, this laptop sits quietly and I do not hear the fan so I don't know what those comments are about. I do head the fan when the processor is working hard but it's not annoying. The nic is fast. The touch screen is great and if you poke it, it does not wobble like some of the other 2 in 1's I tested. The Asus was the best at this test, didn't even move a centimeter. This one moved ever so slightly but doesn't rubber band. Can't complain because I cannot believe I scored such a solid and packed laptop. I hope my nic doesn't die like I read the other reviewer said. I'm done with Lenovo because of that. Had the entire board die just after the 2 year warranty. This is my first Dell. Wish me luck!
Only complaint is the power adapter. I can totally see this thing not lasting long however it's fine now and the plug in to the laptop, if one isn't careful I can see it easily snapping off if clipped accidentally. I don't know why manufacturers don't improve such a major component of a laptop. The Surface Pro has a pretty cool power plug. I think that would be a great addition.

I purchased this open box for $200 off of the listed price and for a Ryzen 7 2 in 1, it was a great deal. However, the first night setup was interesting as this laptop either froze or rebooted several times directly after finishing the Windows 10 setup. I figured that it might be that all of the updates had not installed and I saw that Dell Update had 2 pending, so I left the laptop plugged in and on for a few hours before checking on it. When I did get back to check, I saw that it had rebooted again but when attempting to logon it froze. I had encountered an issue with McAfee in the past and mostly use AVG, so I fully uninstalled McAfee and installed AVG. After several reboots and a scan everything seemed to be working fine. The next day I logged on to check email and in the middle, reboot, no error, no BSOD, just reboot.
It happened at least 2 more times that day, and a few times the next day. Figuring that it may be a driver issue, since all Windows updates were finished, I started checking my driver versions on Dells site and they were all up to date? I have a few more days before I will be forced to return this unit, however I really love the speed and graphics and wished that the issues could be fixed. Next I guess I will try Dells Support before giving up. I will report back and update my rating if anything changes.

I've had this laptop about a month, and so far I really love it! I was in desperate need for a laptop after my Lenovo Yoga 720 13.3" laptop suddenly kept crashing and wouldn't stay on long (and on top of that, the touch screen had been cracked for a while). This one was on sale, so I decided to get it.
It has a screaming fast processor, comparable to the Intel i7. This laptop cost less than the Inspiron 13.3" alternative with an Intel processor, even though the processing speed is about the same, if not better. It had no trouble playing the Sims 4 on high graphic settings. However, the computer did become hot, but I expected that since I didn't have it on a surface that allowed for decent cooling. I like the size and weight of it, it fits nicely in my backpack and isn't too bulky or heavy that I can't take it to and from class. The placement of the touchpad is also much better than the placement of the touchpad on my old Lenovo laptop. With the Lenovo Yoga, I found that sometimes my hand would accidentally touch the touchpad and move the mouse while I was typing. This laptop also has an external volume rocker, which I very much like when watching videos, for example in a dark room, and the keyboard backlight has already turned off. I don't have to fumble around and look for the volume buttons on the keyboard, I can just use the volume rocker. I also like the overall look of the laptop; the silver color is nice.
The only cons that I have found with this laptop so far is that the screen bezel is on the larger side compared to other laptops on the market. I don't see it as much of an issue since I really just wanted a working laptop, but some people who are really interested in the aesthetics of a laptop might not want something like that. This same laptop with the Intel processor had a smaller bezel, so I was surprised, but not mad, to see that the screen bezel was bigger. This laptop also does not have a fingerprint reader, but that isn't a huge issue for me. My Lenovo Yoga had a fingerprint reader, so it's just something that I had to get used to.
Overall, a very good laptop!

My previous laptop was a Dell Inspiron 1525 15-inch that I also got at Best buy. That one lasted me a good 4 years or more. Things started to fail on it so I had to upgrade. Coming from a 15 inch to a 13 inch was like a weight lifted off my shoulders, which it literally was. The 15-inch was a little heavy but this 13-inch ok s noticeably lighter. Performance isn't top notch, but being the first or second generation of the AMD ryzen processors, which have evolved to beat Intel's current CPUs. I almost wish I'd waited for the next gen of Ryzens cuz that gen of CPUs kicked serious butt, as AMD continues to do today. It's got more than your basic 8gb of ram, loaded with 12gb if I remember right which is enough to do most tasks that aren't too demanding. I've had very few issues with it. the one that gets me and then was the first issue I had with the other one as well is that the fan just starts getting noisy after the first month or two. Other than that I don't think I really had any other problems with it other than I probably should have waited for the next generation of CPUs to come out a couple months after I bought this. I'd still recommend it as a good mid-range budget laptop that does the job and is not bottom tier but a good mid range or upper mid-range productivity machine. If you bought this today I don't think you'd be disappointed as long as you're not expecting the performance of the XPS or anything.

Great Laptop for Everyday Uses

This was my first laptop purchase in 8 years. I knew I had to get it "right". I wasn't really interested in a 2-in-1, but let me tell you, the touchscreen is a huge bonus (especially considering it's what we use on our phones everyday). One thing that's always bothered me about most mobile computers has been the external body design/shape. This one (and most of the Inspiron offerings) is very sleek. When closed it has a similar profile to an iPhone and it looks very nice. Let's move on from vanity to operation.
This particular model has the best CPU that you can buy for practical home uses. That, coupled with 12 GB of RAM, allows you to run multiple high-profile applications seamlessly. The SSD allows me to log into Windows within 8 seconds of turning the PC on. That's unheard of to me. The integrated graphics card is good enough to run pretty much any casual game comfortably, and that's all I honestly need, considering that I'm a PS4 gamer. I didn't know that this comp has a back-lit keyboard and that was really, really cool to have discovered out of the box.
I run my power settings at next-to-maximum performance, and 50% brightness, which yields about 6 hours of battery life. I honestly don't think that there's a negative thing to say about this model. Back in 2010, Dell was a below-average brand, and Sony ran the show from performance and durability standards. It's now looking like Dell is where Sony used to be (and Sony just abandoned the mobile PC platform altogether). I looked a some other brands, and other Dell models, and this feels to be a long-term PC solution. A great computer that I plan on using for as long as it works.

Good computer fast enough to do most of everything I need it for but the fans in the laptop are horrid. Under a small load the fans are very noticeable and the heat coming from the middle of the computer is not good at all. Sucks it is a nice looking laptop they must have run out of money to keep the laptop itself cool.

Wonderful laptop. This thing runs everything I need from Chrome to Microsoft Office to Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop all at once. Processing power is amazing. AMD really put everything they have into a great portable processor. I haven't had a single complaint other than the AC power adapter doesn't quite make a full connection every time, which results in a message that the laptop is not charging. Simple to fix but annoying from time to time. Otherwise, overall, fantastic laptop. Highly recommend for graphic designers and casual gamers.

The AMD Ryzen 7 version of this laptop is performs very well. It's great for streaming video and even some less intensive gaming. It has a nice bright and clear display. Even though the speakers are bottom firing, the sound really good. All in all it's a fun little laptop to use. I also like the portability, especially after coming from a 15.6" machine. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone looking for portable machine with plenty of power.

My first PC and so far (just over 2 months in) it has been great. It works fast and stays fairly quiet. The battery is probably the only thing that could be better, lasting usually 5-6 hours when in light-medium use even with brightness turned down. Still, it performs very well and with these specs the price is great. Has a decent number of ports (1 USB 2, 1 USB 3, and 1 USB C, plus an SD card slot, HDMI port, headphone jack, and charger plug-in), though you may need a USB hub.

I love the laptop. Its beautiful, sturdy, quick, and high quality feeling.
The batter life is not great until you remember that you have a powerful processor and a bright screen. If you want to get better battery set the computer to power savings, and turn down the screen, almost gets 6 hours then.
All of this is to say that if you have a bit more spending money on hand and don't want the headaches this computer comes with, buy something better. If you're poor and adaptable like me, I guess this isn't the worst purchase you could possibly make.

For the price (I bought this on a one day deal) this is a decent computer. I previously had a 15” computer and was concerned the smaller size might bother me. It feels bigger than I expected and that’s not an issue.
The light up keyboard works well and the unit is quick. The boot up time is very quick after the initial setup. The one thing I’m not crazy about is the touchpad mouse. It’s ok but I’m not crazy about the feel of it.
The unit is thin and compact and feels similar to a Microsoft Surface unit. Overall I’m pleased with the purchase.

While the performance of this product when working is within reason, there have been some flaws that make it very annoying or inoperative at times. The Wifi tends to not be active and requires a bout of shutdowns/reboots in order to remember it's supposed to wi the fi. I thought I would try to work through the problem (which started about a week after purchase) however at the 3 week mark I realized it isn't going to get any better. Unfortunately I had forgotten that I had let my Best Buy membership lapse down to basic level and only get 14 days to return. I'm now stuck with this thing. I'd suggest picking another model as this one seems to be quite unreliable. Dell was little to no help in resolving the issue either.
I sincerely regret waiting to return this item or even trying to work with dell to get it working. If you do buy it and have even a hint of trouble, return it ASAP if you can - don't bother trying to get it fixed as you'll probably get stuck with a defective lump.
On the plus side, when it does work it seems to do it with good speed. Although I have not yet benchmarked it the laptop is quite responsive. I do some heavy video editing and it isn't bad at that, although it is rather difficult to export the final product when there are no network connections once it's done. On to the shutdown..reboot...shutdown...reboot....cycle over and over again.

Just picked up this laptop on the recommendation of the Best Buy worker. Based on what my needs were it for the criteria perfectly. I was looking for something I can use to edit photos and videos with mainly. Not into gaming so non of that parts of this computer effect me. I did go to the store expecting to get the newest i7 processor. But was told these new AMD razen processors with the Vega 10 card would be a better fit for me. Boot time is crazy from off to loges in its about a 20-30 second process so it’s oretty quick there. Downloading and installing programs I wasn’t too impressed esceally with iTunes the amount of time it took seemed a bit long. But other then that as soon as I load a ad card with anything 4k video or 100s of pictures it pulls them up instantly so that’s what I’m mainly looking at. I’ll be dit the review later after more use I’ve only owned it for about 5 days so it’s pretty fresh still.
