I had purchased the laptop on cyber monday sales and was expecting it to be having good battery life for simple browsing and light tasks.
After using it form some days. I feel the battery life is not as expected and it drains the better a lot faster than expected. It hardly stays for 4 hours on 50% screen brightness with better battery in the option and that with normal tasks and surfing.
I thought the battery was supposed to be on standby for around 7-8 hrs. If i do multi tasking then it would not even be holding the battery for mor than 2 hours. Dell has to give a alternative solution for this.

debs,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear that your battery life is not living up to what you had hoped. Here are a few recommendations to help your battery last longer:
Change the Power Plan:
1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon. 2. On the options list, click Power Options. 3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results. Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off. d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

It does the work. Good for the price. Crashed once or twice but that’s a windows issue I think. I like the functionalities. Wishbincoukdngive a 4.5. Is say the hp has a little edge though, since I had that for a few days and returned it because of price difference. :)

For all the great features of this laptop, the overly bloated shareware and difficulty to remove it, almost made me return the laptop. Last one I will ever buy this way. Love the ssd drive and how fast it starts up. Great 4k IPS screen. Everything works as advertised.

I bought this for my son, wanting to give him the best laptop I could get for $1,400 as he goes off to college to pursue a degree in engineering. It started freezing up and shutting down the first time he tried to use it. He ended up spending 4 hours with a Dell tech. The freeze ups and shutdowns did not completely go away though they became less frequent and more manageable. Now his bigger concern is that it is slow, even slower than his 5-year old Lenovo i3, considering this Dell is i7 and has a Solid State Drive. I asked him if it could be the network speed or wifi at his dorm, but he says No, as he is connected via ethernet cable and his roommate's computer is performing fine. He says the only thing that's really fast is the boot up sequence. Otherwise, everything else -- disk file access, email, internet access -- is slow. We tried to return it but I didn't realize Best Buy's return period was only 15 days and we were 5 days over that period. I would have returned it earlier but my son took his time trying to deal with the problems and he didn't make me aware of them soon enough. If I had known, I would have kept bugging him and breathed down his neck as I would have done if he were still living at home. It was suggested by a Best Buy chat rep that we try trading it in. So we tried that but Best Buy would only give us a trade-in value of $140 for a computer that was not even 30 days old. Ridiculous. My next door neighbor advises me to buy at Costco next time as they have a 90-day return policy. I will definitely keep that in mind.

DaveN,
We're very sorry to hear about the issues that your son has been having with his new Dell computer. We'd recommend running the Windows Performance Troubleshooter to see if it can help the computer run faster:
1. Close all open windows. 2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard. 3. Click Control Panel. 4. Click System and Security. 5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems. 6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks. 7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process. 8. Restart the PC.
If you are still having issues with the computer overheating please follow these tips:
Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue. 2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system. Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage. 3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%. 4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis. 5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance. 6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.
We hope these tips help your son's computer perform better for him.
Best, Bryan 1-800-624-9896

Overall this is a great computer is very fat and the screen resolution is amazing. However you should look at it in person before buying. I Purchased it online and find the trackpad to be rather cheaply made relative to the overall product.

The laptop is fast and lots of features. The screen could be brighter. The biggest negative is the battery life. For a laptop priced at $1399, you would expect the battery to last longer than 3 hours. Expect the battery to last 2 hours top if you're watching a movie or using Adobe to edit pix or videos. Dell support said it's a 4 cell battery and to expect no more than 3 hours no matter what you do. I left it sitting there with screen on doing nothing, battery settings in middle and it still only lasted 2 hours. I would never pay full price for this. My old windows laptop and macbook air battery last longer than this. 4-8 hrs of battery life should be the norm.

Deller,
Thanks for your review. We're sorry that your screen is not as bright as you hoped it would be. Here's how you can adjust the adaptive screen brightness on your computer: Windows can adjust the brightness of the display based on how much light is reaching the system's ambient light sensor. This feature is referred to as 'adaptive brightness' and it can be disabled in Windows. Here are some steps to adjust this feature:
1. In the Search box, type Settings. 2. Touch or click Settings (Modern application). 3. Touch or click System. 4. On the Display screen find the Adjust my screen brightness automatically option. 5. Touch or click the slider to toggle the option on or off. 6. Touch or click Apply. 7. Close the System window.
If you'd like to extend the life of the battery on your computer, here are some tips:
