      2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software.
      3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
      4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page -  http://dell.to/2yuPeJ9.

Manny, Thanks for your review and we're sorry that your computer is running hotter than you expected it to. Here are some tips to help with overheating -

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

      MetinAtlanta,

Thanks for your review and we're sorry that your computer is not working well for you. We'd recommend running the Windows Performance Troubleshooter to see if it can help your computer run faster:

      1. Close all open windows.
      2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard.
      3. Click Control Panel.
      4. Click System and Security.
      5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems.
      6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.
      7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process.
      8. Restart the PC.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tSulGV.

If you'd like to diagnose your Blue Screen Errors you can follow these steps:

      1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports".

We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page - http://dell.to/2yuPeJ9

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2u98Cct.

Lastly, if you'd like to re-calibrate your touchpad you can follow these steps: Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

This laptop was a real shocker for me. The display is flawless at 4K and the speed is refreshing and very fast. Compared to other machines with similar specs...this is hands down the best. It looks very professional and yet you can game with the best of them. Its very quiet and handles Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator with ease.

Video Card Failure, Across Multiple Models

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this laptop today, thinking it looked like a good deal in terms of features and capabilities. It's on the upper end of what I wanted but decided to pay the extra for the performance. Upon completion of the setup I found that there was no access in the regular video card configuration under Win 10 that would show the secondary video card. And the BIOS showed it as "unknown video card". So I assumed that I was not getting the benefit of that feature. I tried calling Dell and talked to two different support persons. But both had a very strong Indian accent and it was very difficult to understand about a third of what they were saying. And I'm a dialect translator at work. Yes, it was pretty severely bad if I had a difficult time with it. The first lady told me that the video card on the box label was incorrect and there was a different card in the computer. She told me I needed to take it back to Best Buy to let them take care of the issue. There was nobody at Dell who could/would help me figure out if it was user serviceable. I called back a second time and the second lady told me that the label on the box was correct and I would still have to take it back to Best Buy to get some help. At this point I was even more frustrated. I took it back to the store and to the Geek Squad table Josh helped me out and confirmed that the secondary card was not showing up in the properties window. He could get to it with the nVidia utility, so we could tell that it was there, but Windows wasn't seeing it or offering to utilize it at all. Josh finally told me it would probably be quicker to just exchange it for a different one to save me the effort of waiting on them to work on it. So I moved over to the customer service line and told the young lady there that I'd go get another one. I headed back to the area where they are on display and the guy who sold me the original one went looking for another. He could not find the one they had listed. So on a whim, I decided to wonder around and try other laptops with secondary video cards. None of the Dells reported the optional card at all. One HP did very nicely, but then the more expensive HP that was similar to mine would not. And it was $400 more expensive ($1600 vs. $1200). So maybe it needs a BIOS upgrade. Well maybe most of them need a BIOS upgrade. Not knowing if there was a known solution, not being able to get any help from Dell at all, and not feeling like wasting more of my life on chasing this unicorn, I just got a refund. Now I'm sitting here doing a little research to see if anybody else knows how to fix this. Well I'm also thinking back to the old days when Dell used to assemble and test every computer they sold, and took great pride in that, as well as their great customer service. I guesss they take little or no pride in these two things any longer. So sad.

    Piece fof Junk!

My best laptop from 2007 through 2013 was a Dell, and so I was expecting this laptop to exceed my expectations. Some background, I used an HP 13 inch Spectre 360 which was another master piece! This laptop however that I purchased 5 hours ago and return an our hour was a complete piece of junk. Faulty speakers with constant noise and jitter, loud fan that goes on for no reason even though the surroundings are cool, intermittently unresponsive internet (and my Wifi is perfect), the list goes on. I am sad and disappointed Dell has deteriorated beyond imagination over the years. What a shame, an absolute waste of money and time. If you want to save yourself from a headache, steer clear of this useless laptop. If you want to experiment and go through the same annoying experience, by all means!

Dell lost a longtime customer over this model

I bought this computer just over a year ago and took out Dell Premier Plus coverage. Since then the hard drive has crashed numerous times. I've had to reinstall windows and my data four or five times. They've twice replaced the hard-drive and are now going to replace it for the third time it seems. I've spent tens of hours with tech support troubleshooting. It's like a full-time job and every time we get the computer "fixed" it breaks down again and the whole thing starts up, long hours on the phone with dell, reinstalling software, reinstalling all my photos and data etc. I have owned Dell products for more than ten years. I have always gotten premier support. No more. I will never buy another Dell computer again. I suggest you don't either.
