Customers express satisfaction with the G15 gaming laptop's performance, graphics, cooling system, and build quality. Many appreciate the smooth visuals from the high refresh rate display and the good value for the price. However, some users point out that the laptop is heavy and has a smaller-than-ideal trackpad, while others mention the need for a RAM upgrade and less-than-stellar battery life. The large power brick is also a recurring point of feedback.

Extremely short battery life and very little memory for its price.
Headphone jack is incredibly annoying to use because it falls out easily and the audio quality is terrible. Every time you plug your headphones in, you must manually set the device you're plugging in every time, so you're better off going wireless to avoid all these problems, which shouldn't even exist in the first place.
Charging port is in an uncomfortable spot at the back, same with HDMI and 1 (and only) USB port.

Hi There AsuKanna,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for the battery performance issues you are experiencing with your Dell G15 Gaming Laptop. It's important for us to hear about inconsistencies in our products for consideration of future development. Below I have provided steps with the full articles that can help you improve the battery performance of your laptop.
Here are the steps to help improve the battery performance of your laptop:
1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon. 2. On the options list, click Power Options. 3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built-in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. b) If running Cortana, type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results. Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. c) Turn the Battery Saver On or Off. d) Additional settings are available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further the Battery Saver feature.

The Dell G15 5530 Gaming Laptop with the Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card is a pretty good gaming laptop. The i7 processor and RTX 4050 graphics card allowed me to play most games without issues. The 120Hz display helps with fast paced motion when playing my first-person shooter games, such as Call of Duty. Aesthetically, it looks good, although it is plastic. It is heavy and comes with a very large power brick. It has a decent sized 1TB SSD and has 8GB of included RAM. It would have been better to have 16GB of RAM, but the RAM is easily upgradeable. There is hardly any bloatware pre-installed on the laptop that allows it to operate quickly and efficiently out of the box. The battery life of the laptop is not great, so make sure that run in battery saver mode when you are not connected directly to the power brick. The layout of the keyboard is good and the backlit feature is nice. The touchpad was smooth and responsive, although I prefer to use a mouse. The laptop has good cooling with plenty of vents and it doesn’t get too hot while gaming. It does come with a front facing camera, but it is not compatible with Windows Hello. The Wi-Fi connection was fast with the included Wi-Fi 6 wireless card and can also be connected to the network with a cable through a gigabit ethernet connection. Overall, I am pleased with this laptop and recommend it if you are looking for a good mid-tier gaming laptop.

Died less than a year of owning it. I bought this for my wife, who strictly plays Fortnite ON PERFORMANCE MODE. That’s the lowest graphics setting you can use on that game. During a session, the laptop turned off and would not turn back on. Luckily BestBuy Geeksquad came through and offered to fix it for free, though it will take weeks. It’s still currently with them.

The Dell G1 5TH 15.6" gaming laptop is a capable mid- range gaming laptop as my title suggests.
It is capable of handling most of todays newest games out there albeit you would probably run most of these games on medium settings to get the best performance.
Let's talk about the specifications. The Dell G1 5TH has a 15.6' FHD 120Hz display (non-touch screen) which I find smooth and clear. For storage it comes with a 1TB SSD which is adequate enough to store a few games at most and I would probably upgrade it. The graphics processor that the G1 5TH comes with is a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 which is definitely a step up from the 30 series line of GPU's. The processor is a Intel Core I7. Then there is the 8GB of memory that is included in the Dell G15 pretty anemic for any kind of gaming setup to be honest and should be upgraded immediately to get better performance.
Build quality I would say is also mid tier as the outer shell is all plastic and the laptop itself when closed is a bit chunky in my opinion. It would say the cooling system is pretty efficient and fans do not get too loud and do a great job of cooling. Dell's description is an Alienware-inspired thermal design that consists of four heat pipes and two fans. The Dell G15 also sport a large charging brick and honestly I always keep it plugged in when playing any games so I could not report on battery life.
If you are looking for a mid-tier/mid-price gaming setup the Dell G15 is a good choice but I would beware of the 8GB of ram that you would have to upgrade. I also would get this on sale and not pay full price. As I am writing this review it is on sale for $250 off the retail price with that in mind this would be an ook price to pay for the specs you get.

Everything on this computer runs smoothly, I was able to crank up the graphics settings on Valorant to the max, and it ran the same as before.
The higher hertz (120hz) was definitely noticeable compared to the old 60hz I was running on.
The Nvidia graphics card is nice since it comes with all the Nvidia software that can be used for clipping gameplay.
My only major complaint about this computer is the lack of RAM, as it only has 8GB of RAM. This has definitely been noticeable in gameplay, where I will frequently lag when I did not lag on my old computer. Where I notice this most is when I try to open a third-party Minecraft client that I use a lot. On my old computer, the 16GB of RAM would let me have both Valorant and this Minecraft client open at the same time, while on this computer, I can’t even open the client and it crashes once fully loaded, because of this I usually have to switch which computer I am using depending on what game I want to play - Valorant on this computer, Minecraft on the other - which is really inconvenient considering I have to plug everything in again. I do know that the RAM is upgradeable, and I will be upgrading it soon, but the lack of it that comes with the PC is definitely annoying. Overall, a pretty good computer, and the change of graphics and smoothness of my gameplay are noticeable in a good way, on the other hand, the lack of RAM that comes with the computer is noticeable in a bad way, but is upgradeable so the issue can be solved for an extra $30-$100 depending on how much you want/need.

Almost a solid bit of kit - "meh" experience as-is

To get it out of the way, this is billed as a gaming laptop. It is actually more of a CASUAL gaming laptop.
It isn't going to handle any AAA FPS or racing sim with settings beyond Medium across the board. It is a solid daily driver that can certainly operate as a high school/college students' primary workstation that also can double as a respectable CASUAL gaming setup.
The first thing that I noticed was how heavy the box was. Once opened I could see why...the power brick/cord is MASSIVE. The laptop itself is quite hefty, but that helps with durability and serves a purpose. The PSU being so rotund? No idea as to why this particular unit comes with a mid-tier spec'd laptop. Possibly for down the road once you add some more oopmh to it? But I doubt that to be the case, most likely Dell has made this their single PSU and ships it with every laptop they make. Whatever the case might be, it's overkill and detracts from one of the main pros of a laptop: mobility.
I state this because another reason it is included might be the fact this laptop is a power-hog. I didn't run it for long unplugged, but after ~30 minutes of gaming the battery was at 75%. Your mileage may vary, but that seemed like a lot for such a short period of time.
On top of that it got extremely hot within minutes of firing up, something that certainly will limit it's gaming performance. I wasn't even gaming yet and could already feel the exhaust air was at a high enough level to make me wonder just how well it was going to do once I *did* start playing something.
This heat also means fans and the noise associated with them. If you have headphones to drown it out, great. But if you have roommates, they better have some, too, as it also is a bit of a noisy beast.
That is not to say there are no redeeming qualities to be had here. It will handle most anything you throw at it in the way or work/school short of CAD or rendering. And so long as you realistically adjust your game expectations (and settings) it *will* give you a good enough gaming experience.
Other than that it has a solid body and construction. The body is a little smaller and more compact than other gaming laptops I own and/or have previously used. Ports are there but are also somewhat limited, so be prepared to have an extender or hub as part of your setup if you want to expand storage and/or peripherals.
I'd recommend it if you know what you're getting to and don't have expectations to game with Ultra settings regardless if you want 1080/1440/4K resolution, as this simply won't be able to do that. The fact you are certainly going to have to upgrade the 8GB in the near future is another detractor to my rating. Sure, it is inexpensive and not too difficult, but Dell should've shipped this with 16GB.

Great midrange laptop.. First of all, I got the intel i7 since I have just always had a preference for intel. Honestly Dell does a good job of offering a few options here and I’m not sure that the CPU brand really makes a difference, but this particular CPU is really powerful and I haven’t had it give me any issues running any game I have.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card is really nice and probably helps with the high setting video rendering for my games. Honestly, everything looked good and I didn’t experience any issues so I could have pushed it further but it met all my current games requirements just fine. I have been playing a lot of lower graphics online games recently so I didn’t push it much, but it did start to run hot after a bit so I imagine that at the highest settings of a more graphics intensive game you may run into issues. That being said, the price point on this is really reasonable for the power you’re getting.
8GB memory is a bit on the lower end of what I typically do, but it seemed to handle things just fine. 1TB is good enough for now too, but honestly I expect I’ll find it frustrating in the future as I fill it up. These are the only real drawbacks to me. Both types of memory are done at a pretty high quality, but it just is not quite enough for the long term without needing an upgrade. Again, this is a price point issue. If I had more funds I’d look for an option with more RAM and a bigger HDD, but if you want the power it has and are willing to upgrade later due to your current budget limitations, this may be the sweet spot for you.
Visually I do like the aesthetic of this computer and makes it feel a little fancier. The display was nice, but it’s not like this is a 55” tv so there are limits to how nice a human eye can really see. I do know I’ve seen better monitors and screens at this size, but it meets all my minimums for a display and I’m sure you’ll be happy with it. There is again always a tradeoff for price.
Battery life was fine. Nothing to shout from the rooftops about, but generally I use my laptops while plugged in so I don’t care that much.
Keyboard was fine and didn’t try to do anything fancy that ruined the experience. The trackpad/mouse was irritating, but honestly I don’t like any built in mouse system in pretty much any laptop and always have to move to an external one.
The ads for this tout the airflow, and it does have good ventilation, but it does run a bit warm and you can feel the warm air blowing out. No really hot spots or anything concerning, but if you try to use this on your actual lap you may get pretty uncomfortable, pretty fast.
Of course it comes with all the annoying bloatware and Microsoft trying to force you to have an account to just start your computer, but that's life now days and there are ways to get around that.
I do like that it has a ethernet port, and HDMI port since these are starting to be dropped from laptops but I like to hard wire in fairly often. I also like that it has a USB-C power port as well as the dell brink port just in case I don’t have my charger and am running low on battery power. However, I was disappointed that it only had 1 USB-C port given the recent shift in a lot of accessories now days. However, the 3 USB-A ports are good enough for now. Being more of a mid level gaming laptop it will probably be replaced sooner than a higher level laptop and so future proofing is a bit less necessary.
Overall I still really like this laptop and while its not the best one on the market, I feel like the tradeoffs for bringing down the price were generally in the right places and make this a solid choice for anyone needing a mid-tier gaming computer.

I am very happy with this so far! I got it on sale for around $925 (with the taxes and shipping included in that figure). The specs are great although the RAM is a bit low. I am planning on upgrading that myself. Happy I saved all that money for just a tiny bit of labor. It disperses heat really well. The trackpad is less than ideal (I read a description that it was gummy - hard to describe, but I agree), but I can easily use an external mouse.

Most gamers will be on for a while, and any laptop will be limited by space to get the heat out especially when you’re dealing with a very good 4050 graphics card. I love that the Dell has amazing fans! It makes you feel comfortable and confident that heat dissipation is happening.
I play mostly three steam games, Football Manager 2023, Starfield, Baldurs Gate and they all work flawlessly on this laptop! Next game I’ll play is cyberpunk with the new DLC and don’t expect any issues at all.
The screen is great and the 120hz helps especially if you are playing multiplayer which I don’t too much.
I can’t comment on battery life as I have it hooked up at all times and kinda stationary for the most part (Hey I used it for the gamer not laptop features lol).
We live in a small apartment and having a desktop takes too much space so this laptop does everything I need and more.
Only issue would be space especially if you have a lot of files or pictures but that’s easily and cheaply handled now by an external HD or even a usb c small drive to plug in and save files etc.
Overall I’m impressed with Dell and the G15, I love the look, the fans and the performance the most.
