Customers are delighted by the outstanding performance and beautiful screen quality of the G7 15.6" Gaming Laptop. However, some users noted that the fan is quite loud during gaming sessions, and the laptop can become hot under heavy use. The build quality is also praised by many users. Despite the fan noise and heat concerns, the powerful performance capabilities seem to outweigh these drawbacks for many customers.

I've had this laptop for a few weeks now and it is a beast. The specs this thing comes with makes it very well suited for gaming and any other tasks you might need it to do. The screen is immaculate and you can tell the difference with the 144hz panel. It's a bit heavy, but considering the specs and the cooling this thing stores, I'm ok with it. It can get a little hot, but as long as the room is relatively cool, it wont become unbearable. It does also get loud, but in reality it's no louder than a ps4 or an xbox. The one deterrent you might have is that its EXPENSIVE. I would reccomend getting this in open box condition. l did and saved about $400 to get the same quality as I would with a new laptop. Overall, if you're looking with something that has powerful specs and a good screen to game or whatever you need, this is the choice for you.
Plus the rgb keyboard is fantastic.

Great Gaming Laptop All Around

I didn't feel like spending over $2k on a laptop but I wanted a six core processor and a RTX 2070 which is what I got here. Destiny 2, PUBG, Halo MC Collection, and all the current Blizzard titles place exceptionally well. I don't know why people complain about a loud fan if they're going to get a gaming laptop. The fan is a little loud going from a desktop to a laptop but I've heard some much louder from entertainment laptops with mid range graphics cards. Going to the Alienware series won't save you on sound or battery life. Going up to the Alienware laptop Best Buy sells will only get you a larger screen, the cooling looks identical on the inside. I was quite pleased to come in at $2043 with the 3yr accidental plan (my laptop travels with me a lot). Best Buy and Geek Squad have improved their sales training and service plans over the years, get the service plan when it comes to mobile devices.

2 months old, already dead pixels on the screen

The good... the computer can handle anything you throw at it. It's lightweight and the screen is beautiful. I bought the laptop for business / personal fun. Nice to be able to take my work with me when travelling but at the same time can fire up a VR headset or max out graphics. For what you get in the laptop the price seems like a steal.
The bad... it's loud, anytime you run just about anything with decent processing power the fans kick on to keep the laptop cool. I'm assuming with how tiny and lightweight the case is it's necessary for the fans to pretty much run constant. Also, only 2 months into the computers life I just noticed I have a dead pixel. Hard to see on light screens but glaringly florescent green on any dark background.
Overall... if I had to buy again, probably would get a cheaper laptop for work and just land a desktop in the office for work / fun.

Gary,
Thanks for your feedback and we're glad to hear that the performance of your new laptop is working well for you. Please feel free to read Dell's Pixel Guidelines here: https://dell.to/2lCLW0I.
If you would like to see if you could lower the fan noise you can try to update the BIOS:
An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

I was looking for the best hardware the price. Very sturdy metal body construction. Performance is better than expected with online multi-player games. The speakers are a little quit for movies and TV shows. Only drawback was the SSD size, fixed by a simple external SSD.

This laptop is excellent for running heavy games, the screen is excellent and the playing experience is great. Living with it day to day can be a struggle with how bulky it and loud the fan gets. There might be better options out there, but if you do buy it, make sure to buy a cooling pad because it gets hot quickly. I use this as an engineering student, and it's not a horrible experience but I would have bought something else if I had the chance.

This laptop has so far given me pretty good performance. The slew of different services demanding to be installed on first startup was a bit heavier than normal. One annoying thing is that the built-in mic picks up the fan when running anything that even mildly taxes the video card, but using a headset is an easy fix for that.

Solid laptop, performs well for all tasks. VERY QUIET when doing anything but gaming. Unfortunetly, the laptop gets REALLY loud when you game, even when you change the fan settings manually. I would give it 5 stars, but because of how loud it gets, 4 stars only.

Works well. Gets very hot when plugged in and using it at the same time. It's practically brand new because I didn't use it much until now. The fan is really loud too. Everything else I like. I use for business mostly.

Before you even think of using it for anything...UPDATE windows, then update to the latest bios. Makes a HUGE diff. The laptop will run much cooler and quieter. Now, you will thermal throttle, it’s inevitable with a thin and light packing this much hardware. This could be somewhat mitigated, I would recommend repasting and undervolting a little. Working on this laptop is a dream, unscrew bottom panel, and everything is accessible, no annoying motherboard flipping here(looking at you MSI). This model comes with DUAL Channel RAM(2 sticks 8GB) a slot for an NVME drive, a slot for a 2.5 drive and a 60hr battery. Nothing is soldered on<3, the WiFi card can be upgraded to a WiFi 6 one. Again, I cannot stress enough what a joy it is to work on this laptop. Now, the bad, thermals, again, a repaste and slight undervolt and limiting the boost clock will keep it in mid to high 80s and no throttling. Other than the Zephyrus S Ultra you will not find a thin and light laptop that doesn’t get high temps. I don’t care what anyone will yell you, it just isn’t feasible with the current hardware. Could the cooling used in this one be better? Sure, but you’re already not paying a premium price. Overall, I am more than happy with my purchase. Solid screen, solid build. Minor thermal nuisance. Would definitely buy again.

The PC is fine and will play all my games at max settings. The only thing I notice is that the fan goes all out on every single game. Even if I put it to low settings. I go to the Alienware panel and the fan settings can be adjusted, but even on balanced settings, it kicks into full gear.

packersfan036,
We're sorry to hear about the heat and fan issues that you had with your computer. Dell's Gaming Series laptops do allow you to control the temperature using the Alienware Control Center on your computer. We're sorry that you decided to return your computer but we hope that you do consider Dell again in the future.

Instead it includes a significantly slower “max q” version. Laptop is already back in its original packaging to be returned as soon as BestBuy stores open again.
