Overall great little laptop. 14 inch seems to be the sweet spot for me. Had a cheaper gateway laptop for about 2 years before this one which had more ram 16GB. This Dell has superior sound and much better display. The only downfall is all the extra bloat software. With the bare minimum ram 8GB. Touch screens are great for laptops. Easy to zoom in on web pages.

There can be a lot to consider when looking at a 2-in-1 laptop, but when looking for somewhere to start, this isn't a bad laptop to start your search with. The AMD 7000-series Ryzen 5 is more than capable for most tasks and even some light gaming, and won't leave you wanting more. The nice display is nice and sharp, with a bright screen. I could see the screen easily while sitting in the shade on a bright sunny day, with the screen brightness set at max. And even with brightness set at max, I was able to download updates and watch youtube without having to worry about the battery. So, there are a few corners cut on this laptop, but screen, battery, and CPU are not among them. The display is a 16:10 aspect ratio, meaning it's slightly more square than a television, which some people like. Where Dell went for cost-cutting is with weight, and RAM. This laptop only comes with 8gb of RAM, which is pretty bare-minimum (I really think most computers should be shipping with 16gb these days), so some more RAM intensive websites or programs will introduce slowness, which is unfortunate, and doesn't appear to be upgradable. As far as 2-in-1 laptops go... I don't have a scale with me, but this is a bit on the heavier side, given its size. It doesn't feel cheap by any stretch, just hefty. I thought this might be from cooling, but the cooler looks average inside, despite it looking like they included 2 heat vents on the back, one is a dummy. That being said, even on hot days, I've not had much issue with heat or fan noise, so maybe the cooling is adequate, but usually I find laptops are under-cooled (which means it could slow down in hot environments, or the case can become hot to the touch and uncomfortable to rest on your lap). Dell has configured the screen and back of this laptop to lift up a little bit with the screen open in a normal clamshell configuration, which is nice for ergonomics, which I'm glad they did since it's something that's usually tossed to the side in favor of appearance (side note, this metallic blue is pretty slick looking). Upward firing speakers on either side of the keyboard are also very nice. Anytime I've used a laptop where the speakers are hidden underneath have usually sounded muddled and quiet. You won't have that problem here, as the sound is loud and clear. Quality isn't going to knock your socks off, but just having the speakers where they are makes it automatically better than half the laptops out there. One other thing to note on bloatware... Dell included "SmartByte", which is a program by Rivet Networks. It's apparently designed to optimize your network traffic, but a quick google search shows there is some bad experiences with the app. Uninstalling it doesn't seem to fully get rid of it either since some services remain. There don't seem to be many recent complaints, but I uninstalled it anyway to avoid unexpected issues down the road. Also, includes McAffee, which is pretty standard, but easy to uninstall these days. Overall, a solid slightly lower-end 2-in-1 laptop

Multipurpose laptop at a good price point. I really like this computer even though the ram should be at least 12 or 16 gig. My understanding is the Ram is solider onto the mother board and cannot be upgraded or expanded. This laptop is pretty much buy it as is since the ram cannot be upgraded. However for my use the laptop is more than adequate and actually performs really well. Setting up the computer was pretty simple and during the setup process it installed applications that it thought I might want/need based on the setup questions. Once setup and working there is hardly any bloatware that comes preinstalled on this computer. The programs that are installed by Dell are actually pretty handy and not intrusive to the user experience. There is a 30 day trial of Mcafee, I did receive a few pop ups about my trial and when it will expire. I disabled the pop ups as they got annoying and once the trial is over, I will remove the application from the computer. One of the applications installed by Dell is called smartbyte, this application shows you available Wi-Fi networks and which ones are the best. I thought it was helpfull on my home network to see which wi-fi was the fastest and most stable. The other dell applications assist with updates, one being the BIOS. I thought was helpful instead of trying to manually download and update the BIOS on m own. The computer performs very well and is quick to load and use applications. I used Office 365 through my work account. I was able to login into Office on this PC and continue to use it as if I was at my office. I also downloaded XBox onto this laptop to try out gamming. I was able to play cloud gamming without any issues. I also downloaded a game (Dirt 5) which ran flawlessly on this computer. I thought for sure the graphics would be reduced or the game would be glitchy. I was happily surprised that it ran totally fine, and the graphics looked great! The only downside was the computer fan ran on high the whole time I was playing, and battery life took a big hit which was totally understandable. I wouldn't recommend this computer if you're a hardcore gamer, but if you like playing games every so often you totally can with this laptop. Watching movies was also very nice as the screen is HD and looks stunning. The speakers can be used at max volume without distortion and sound good enough for use. The computer also has a decent amount of space to download movies to watch on the go. Which brings me to my next point, this laptop is pretty light and can be used as tablet. The hinges for the screen are pretty strong and in laptop or tablet mode the screen stays in place with little movement. The touch screen is very responsive and was a pleasure to use unlike my last touch screen laptop. The keyboard is very easy for me to type on and is also backlight. The touchpad!!!! I love this touchpad! My last laptop the touchpad felt like an afterthought and was clunky and felt like it was going to break. This touchpad is amazing and works so well! It's very large and has the perfect sensitivity. When clicking you get a nice thunk sound/feel, and I don't feel the need to use an external mouse like I do with most laptops. The rest of the laptop is very well built and is very light. The color is lavender blue, I was thinking more purple, but the color is a very nice silvery blue. In darker settings it's a nice blue and in brighter settings its more silvery blue. I really like the way it looks as it's not a boring black or silver but is not over the top to make it stick out. The computer is also thin and pretty light to carry. This Dell laptop has two USB C ports (one is used for charging) HDMI, standard USB, Headphone jack, and a SD card slot. I think this is a generous number of ports for a laptop and can cover most user's needs. Overall I feel like this is a great laptop that is built very well and functions wonderfully. The battery life has been pretty good as well. The built in webcam is one of the best I have every used and zoom/skype images have been very clear and vivid. If you need a good solid laptop for work/school/personal/light gaming, this is the one to check out. This is an overall solid build computer that I personally enjoy using for every task!

Very good laptop when considering the price. Open box at my store for under $500. Be prepared to do lots of updates when you first startup the laptop. WiFi only out-of-the-box; no Ethernet port unless you get a separate USB dongle. Performs the basics very well, but don’t expect it to do any gaming. The case is all-aluminum, which is a nice feature at this price point. Runs quiet and cool. Only disappointment was the RAM is soldered on, so no way to upgrade from 8 GB. Not as disappointing was there is only one M.2 slot, and it’s occupied with the 512 GB drive. Really that’s plenty of storage to install Windows, Office, and store thousands of documents/photos. Battery easily lasts all day with screen set at about half brightness. Display is clear, WUXGA standard is a little better than 1080P, and it looks great on the 14” screen. 2-in-1 design is neat but not very practical. This one is either closed or open about 90 degrees. Chiclet keyboard is about as good as any other laptop keyboard. Backlighting has adjustable brightness. Easy login with fingerprint scanner integrated in the power button. Startup is 10 seconds or less.

INITIAL CONFIGURATION & INSTALLED APPS Like many Dell products, this Inspiron proved to be issue free during initial set-up and configuration. Between Windows update and the Dell Owner Website, any initial configuration, set-up, or driver issues were easily rectified. I highly recommend browsing the Dell driver update website based on your Dell Service Tag, as Windows update failed to identify the most recent bios update. Windows update found 1 bios update, but Dell had an updated one on their website. The first bios update to 1.2.1 was extremely nerve racking and took nearly 10 minutes. Most of that with no movement on the progress bar. Fortunately, the update installed without issue & there have been no performance or driver issues. Dell doesn’t deliver the laptop to you with a pure, unaltered version of Windows 11. Instead, there is a moderate amount of bloatware. Included in the unnecessary bloatware is McAfee Anti-Virus (installed by default & always has issues being totally wiped clean), numerous Dell assistants and software, 3 full versions of Office 365 (English, Spanish, and French), as well as McAfee Web Advisor. While this may not normally be an issue (other than McAfee), but with only 512GB of NVMe space, every little bit counts. DISPLAY AND KEYBOARD The 14” display is very crisp and clear. The touchscreen supports a better than full HD resolution of 1900 x 1200. The display has quite a bit of glare, as it is a very reflective surface, but it is very nice to look at once you get the color adjusted. Speaking of the display, initial color accuracy is way off. Honestly, when I first got the laptop, I was kind of put off by the out of the box color reproduction. It was yellowy and unpleasant to look at. After several hours of use, I finally got tired of the colors and grabbed my colorimeter. Using the colorimeter and profiling software, the color accuracy was VASTLY improved and almost dead on. Now the display is bright, crisp, clear, and very pleasing to look at. Colors are now much truer to life. The keyboard is equally as pleasing to use. Even with a more compact size than I am used to, the keys have a nice, responsive feel, without a lot of the membrane style mushiness. Overall, the keyboard and display provide for a premium feel, better than its current price point. UPGRADEABILITY This is one of the few areas that leaves the consumer wanting. The specs for this machine are what is considered entry-level at this point. 512GB of hard drive space and only 8GB of RAM. Not that it is a bad thing, as most computers can be upgraded as time progresses and users’ needs increase. Unfortunately, the Inspiron 14’s RAM is not upgradeable, as confirmed by the Dell associates. The NVMe drive and Wi-Fi adapter are upgradeable. The NVMe drive shipped with the Inspiron is a 2230 drive, but Dell has wisely opted for the ability for an end-user put a normal 2280 sized NVMe drive. Wi-Fi card is a standard Key A or E card and replaceable as well, but I have experienced no issues with the RealTek Wi-Fi 6E card installed from the factory, as Wi-Fi connections have proven consistent and reliable with good speeds. BATTERY LIFE Battery life has been averaging around 3 hours, more or less. I’m sure this could be increased by using the Battery Saver function built into Windows 11 or by lowering the brightness down from 120 nits as recommended by my monitor calibration software. However, the display is so crisp and natural looking at these settings, I hate to reduce overall brightness. CONCLUSION This would make a good laptop for anyone needing a basic and dependable machine. This display is nice to look at (once calibrated) and the overall feel and functionality of the 2 in 1 design is quite good. Battery life is decent for being such a small battery, but I still wish it had more reserve capacity. The only thing holding this back from a 5-star rating, is the inability to add more RAM and the McAfee Anti-Virus installed an active immediately from start-up. Speed and responsiveness have never been an issue. A small, lightweight laptop with good performance, crisp display, and excellent ergonomics. RECOMMENDED

Let me start by saying this computer is solid. The build quality is fantastic - utilizing a mix of high-quality plastics and aluminum. The chassis has minimal flex and the keys have the perfect amount of travel for me. The hinge mechanism feels robust, the touch screen is responsive/accurate, and the battery life is absolutely fantastic. I average about 7-8 hours of normal use on a single charge which is more than enough for anything I need. The screen resolution is also perfect for the size. The text is crisp and the viewing angles are better than most laptops I've used at this price point. I have to hand it to Dell, they really knocked it out of the park. The attention to detail really sets this computer apart from the competition. The colling is quite and barely noticeable under substantial loads. That being said...there is one major flaw that I see. Wile most tasks do feel snappy, the amount of ram in this system is a huge bottleneck and limits it's full potential. I would recommend either spending the extra money to get the 16GB version or looking into whether or not this model is user upgradable. For context, If I launch Microsoft Edge with more than 7 tabs open, the RAM usage of the system becomes close to being maxed which will hurt multitasking should you need to throw more at it. Other than the RAM bottleneck, the CPU is snappy and rarely stressed. This is definitely a system I look forward to using for years to come.

    Overall Great Budget Laptop

This is a decent budget touchscreen laptop. At first glance, this machine is beautiful. The stock images of the Blue Lavander do it no justice. The laptop itself is lightweight and sleek. Setup was a breeze. Walking through all of the prompted steps for set up and updates took less than 10 minutes. I really like this keyboard. For me it has a really nice feel when typing. Many times when getting a new laptop it takes a few days to get used to the spacing and feel of the keyboard. I did not have that issue with this one. The fingerprint scanner was a nice touch as well. It was super simple to set up and has worked very well. Some fingerprint scanners can be finicky especially because I have a big scar on my right index finger. However I have not had any issues with this scanner not reading my fingerprint. The 2-1 feature is neat. This is the first time I have had a laptop with this functionality. the touch screen is very reactive, but also not overly sensitive. I love that you can flip the screen backwards and have a flat, tablet like feel while having all of the functionality of a laptop. I so have a Surface and I feel this is much more capable for laptop type functions such as spreadsheets, ect. In the factory settings, the screen is a bit dim and not super vibrant- but with a little tweaking of the settings the machine produces a great quality image. The bad: There are only a few things I wasn't super satisfied with. One is the webcam. It left much to be desired. In the day and age where people are doing much more from home (work, school, get togethers). The images are not very crisp at all. they have a bit of a pixled blur around hard edges. It also does this some when moving around also. Picture attached to show image quality. I have another Dell laptop for work- and the webcam is a much higher quality image. While this is a bummer- I had to remind myself that this is still a relatively entry level laptop. The other negative is how little Ram this has and the fact that it is not upgradable. Something to keep in mind if this is going to be used for more than some basic web searches, word docs and occasional streaming.

--->The Good <--- First, the construction quality of this laptop is quite good. It seems very solidly built. It seems sturdy, and the keyboard and touch pad are both nice for this price point. The screen is bright with plenty of contrast, and it is a touch screen. The power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and it features a USB-A, headphone jack, and SD reader on the right. The left side sports a full-size HDMI and two USB-C ports that both support charging and Display-Port Alternate mode. This means that you can easily use a single cable to dock this laptop to your desktop setup. It can easily drive an ultra-widescreen monitor. The speakers are mounted underneath grilles on the sides of the keyboard, so you get speakers that actually fire up at you, instead of down on the table. The speakers are quite good for a laptop of this size and price. In addition, the battery should give you around ten hours of life (more or less, depending on the task you are doing). So far, things are looking quite good indeed. The included 512 GB M.2 SSD can easily be replaced. The included SSD is only 30mm long, but it comes with an extender to make it fit an 80mm slot, so it can easily be upgraded with another 30mm or 80mm unit. ---> The Bad <--- The machine came pre-installed with junk software including McAffee anti-virus software, which can make a good computer run slow. It also came with Alexa installed too, but these can be easily removed. ---> The Ugly <--- The big elephant in the room is the memory in this computer. It only has 8GB of RAM. It is DDR5, and appears to be 4400 speed class, but there is not enough of it. I did not bother with benchmarks, as the limited memory is going to prevent this from being used for anything heavy-duty. It is fine for casual web browsing and common office tasks. But for anything serious, this limitation is going to seriously kneecap the performance. Just having FireFox and Word open at the same time used up most of the memory. Plus, the memory is soldered to the motherboard, so upgrading is not even an option. This computer is too expensive to be considered a “cheap” computer but does not have enough memory to be considered a “serious” computer. So it falls awkwardly between the two categories. If 8 GB of memory is enough, then you can get a cheaper machine that will serve just as well. On the other hand, if you need performance, then don’t get this. So it is well-constructed, but the specifications just don’t make sense. This is a shame, as the CPU itself is rather nice and would be capable of so much more.

Good All-Rounder with One Minor Caveat

A solid little mid-ranger with excellent bang for the buck, especially at the sale price of $550. This laptop delivers great battery life, modern connectivity including Wifi 6, two Type C charging ports (say goodbye to proprietary chargers) and ample external display connectivity either through the HDMI port or either of the two USB C ports working in DisplayPort mode through a dock or adapter. It's relatively lightweight, feels fairly sturdy, and also offers a good 1080P (really 1200P) 16:10 touch display. While many won't use the touch screen, the option is nice. Also, for those coming from an older 13", this laptop may be a similar footprint despite the larger screen size, mainly due to the fairly thin bezels. The processor is very snappy and responsive, and being a modern 6 core, is capable of some heavy lifting. The onboard graphics is also capable of light gaming (mainly esports titles) but measure your expectations accordingly: this is not a gaming machine. The only weak point is the soldered 8 GB of RAM. I feel that, without changing anything else, a bump to 16 GB (even for an extra $50 or $100) would have made this nearly perfect. 8 GB is enough for many people, but we're leaving the era where this standard is near-universally sufficient.

The Dell Inspiron 14 7435 is a decent laptop, and joins the trends of combining two products into one. Design wise, it's a beauty. The build quality is great, and it's slim making it very ideal for small desks or traveling. The lavender blue adds a pop of color and elegance that breaks away from the generic silver and black designs that 80% laptops seem to have. From a technical perspective, the laptop performs as I expected. With 8GB of RAM, this is not a multitasking powerhouse, but it works perfectly fine for everyday needs. Despite the RAM, I am able to transition among applications without issue. The tablet/touchscreen mode has been fantastic for me. The hinges seem durable enough, and the touch display is very responsive. I did wish for the display to be QHD, but not much difference can be noticed between QHD screen and a FHD+ display. Overall, this a uniquely designed laptops that performs respectably. Truthfully, there are some things I wish I could change about it. The 8GB of RAM will limit its longevity. Furthermore, it's integrated memory which means it can't be upgraded in the future. Also, the display maxes out at 1200p which is only 240 pixels away from QHD. Yet, all is not gloom and doom when it comes to this product. Memory management issues are more of an indictment against software creators rather than hardware. Also, there are always tweaks and few changes that can be done to improve performance. The SSD can be upgraded, and the tablet like features make this a great hybrid computer. I do find this computer useful, and I would still recommend it.
