Dell Inspiron 2 in one
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall great little laptop. 14 inch seems to be the sweet spot for me. Had a cheaper gateway laptop for about 2 years before this one which had more ram 16GB. This Dell has superior sound and much better display. The only downfall is all the extra bloat software. With the bare minimum ram 8GB. Touch screens are great for laptops. Easy to zoom in on web pages.

Decent just wish it had more storage
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought for my son primarily to do his school work on, but also to play games in his down time. The laptop performs just fine for everyday tasks and the touchscreen works well. Only complaint is the small amount of storage. I thought it would be plenty since I spoke with associates at the store before leaving with it. Would add storage but it’s not able to be added to. Aside from that it’s a decent laptop.

4 Stars - down 1 for a couple of things
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's my second 14" Inspiron. I wish I didn't have to have W-11, but "time goes by." The only problem I had was with the fingerprint thingy, but I don't really need it - it didn't factor into the decision on what to buy. It's also a little weird that my previous I-14, when you turned off the sound, only turned off the speakers - that is, if I am sharing something with a "soundtrack" over Zoom, turning the sound off does NOT turn it off to the Zoomers. But the new machine turns the sound off altogether, so the people on Zoom can't hear it.

A Solid Contender
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SCREEN: There are multiple “budget” pieces on this laptop. The screen is one of them where some of the competition has better. Which isn’t to say this one is bad. From a basic use standpoint, I enjoyed it as it is pleasing to look at, contrast is good, colors pop, nothing looks washed out, text is easy to read, and watching videos was enjoyable. However, once I ran it through some critical testing, I noticed that all bands for blue, green, cyan, red, and pink weren’t distinguishable. But yellow and white were. Which means color grading work isn’t recommended and once I put it next to another laptop with an OLED screen at the same price point it looked washed out. Contrast was impressive where I only had crushing at the very end of the spectrum and white saturation was good. I noticed no gradient banding. Good sharpness (just right). But gamma wasn’t ideal. It does come with a touch screen and is a 2-in1 which is neat and makes reading documents and watching videos more fun and enjoyable and is very responsive. Only has 8-Bit at 60 Hz (unsure if it is FRC). The screen gets moderately dim and doesn’t get very bright (250 nits). I often had it around 50% in the dark and 80 – 100% in a well-lit room. The screen is glossy which makes everything sharp and crisp, but means reflections can be an issue. The 16:10 ratio allows you to see more of the screen without taking up more space. Bezels are alright. Great on the sides, okay on the top, but thick near the bottom. But better than previous years. 1920x1200 (WUXGA). KEYBOARD: I like this keyboard a lot. It comes across as very “soft”. As it doesn’t require a lot of pressure to actuate, the distance is quite short, and it has a good bounce back for the keys allowing for high WPM (I got 131 WPM in testing which is my usual). It has a very satisfying sound to it and can easily be used in a quiet environment without issues. The keyboard takes up most of the chassis, has long shift keys, and the arrow left/right are full size which helps a lot with short upper arrow keys. Power button is hard to press accidentally. I can easily type on it all day long without any issues. TRACKPAD: As someone who always uses the trackpad on a laptop, if it isn’t good, then the whole computer is bad. Thankfully that isn’t the case here. This one is large, my finger glides across it easily, and all my inputs and gestures work every time. I’m not getting accidental clicks or movement so good palm rejection. I never have to fight against it to get what I wanted out of it. The worst part is the click requires moderate pressure at the very bottom and gets harder the higher you go. And with minute movement isn’t as responsive. Overall, solid but not up there with the best such as from Apple. But gets my seal of approval where it should be fine for nearly everyone. THE FAN: Unfortunately, the fan was almost always on when I was using this whether I was plugged in or on battery even when I was doing relatively nothing (like typing a word document, with outlook open, and a webpage open). I had it on the “balanced” power plan as that gives me the best of battery and performance. The pitch of the fan isn’t the best and comes across as a bit harsh. But does its job well at keeping the laptop cool as I never experienced any warm spots. There was a setting somewhere that you can adjust the fan and I had it set to default which is adaptive so depending on what power mode I was on and what I was doing it would increase or decrease. So, if you went for the “quiet” option it would likely be better tolerated. With the fan running all the time I imagine battery life is also slightly reduced. FINGERPRINT READER: I normally don’t mention this as I never have issues with these. But this one isn’t as accurate as I would like. It regularly doesn’t recognize my finger first or second go and I often need to be highly specific on my finger placement. It was even worse with another user of this computer. BATTERY LIFE: Always hard to get a good judge on this. I find it to be adequate, as I was getting about 6 – 6.5 hours (lost about 15% per hour). Which means you could use it during the morning, charge it up over lunch, and be good for the afternoon. But you’ll still want to bring your charger. With that said this was “real world use” where I was using the computer normally with high/dynamic brightness, backlit keyboard, balanced power plan, multiple tabs open, some web browsing, some document typing, some email, some video watching. So, you could get more if you went down to a lower brightness setting, turned off fan, limited what was open, turned off backlit keyboard, etc. Which would likely net you another hour perhaps two. SPEAKERS: I was pleasantly surprised by the sound. They are up firing speakers (but I also think they have another that is down firing as well). I found watching videos to be pleasant. Normally had it between 30 – 50% so can get plenty loud. It does have a slight tinniness to the sound but that allows for better clarity. I think bass is so-so. When listening to voices they sounded mostly natural and were easy to understand. Not the best but definitely solid overall sound where I really don’t have any real complaints. And definitely one of the better ones I’ve tried. But at the same time I’m not going to be singing it praises either. BUILD QUALITY: This isn’t the most lightweight device (3.61 lbs) as you trade better build quality for it. But it is small and portable. When manipulating it around it always feels solid without any creaking or movement. However, if you press hard on the keyboard there is some give. But with normal typing it isn’t noticeable. Most importantly, the screen is very tight meaning there is zero wobble to it with use and typing. But you can’t open it with a single finger as the hinges are stiff. But is very responsive and stays where you place it. COLOR: The blue color is beautiful. Probably one of the most attractive laptops I’ve seen. It stays relatively clean where I don’t have to wipe it down very often. And it really makes the keyboard and screen pop but at the same time they all blend beautifully together. 10/10 in that aspect. PORTS: Are limited, USB-C 3.2 x2 either for power (some at this price point have thunderbolt), HDMI 1.4 (I think as all I could get is 4K 30 where most allow 4k60), 3.5mm aux, USB-A 3.2 x1 (pretty standard), and full size SD card reader. Which are all budget options and the competition tends to do slightly better. THE CAMERA: The camera is meh. It gets the job done but isn’t anything to write home about. It is kind of fuzzy, but works in low light situations. Where if you need it for work it will do. But you aren’t going to look smashing. Also, greatly appreciate a slider that goes over the camera for privacy. It has a light that turns on to let you know it is in use too. PERFORMANCE: Another part that they went budget is on a lot of the internal specs. It comes with a 2230 Gen4 NVMe SSD at 512 GB. But speeds are at the lower end for Gen3 and I wouldn’t believe it was a Gen4 except it says it on the SSD itself. This can be upgraded to a full size 2280 NVMe SSD though. It has 8GB of LPDDR4X 4266 MHz RAM which is a good speed but isn’t the newest DDR5 standard and is soldered directly onto the motherboard making it so you can’t upgrade, confirmed by looking inside the laptop. 8GB to me is the bare minimum these days as once I start up my computer (with nothing running and very barebones) I’m sitting at 5.2 GB/8 GB. It has a good wireless card that can easily be replaced if broken, I can connect to the newest Wi-Fi 6 GHz bands, and get full speeds. Last, the Ryzen 5 7530U is probably the best part. Comes in right at middle of the road for your average laptop processor (tested on Balanced preset). I was impressed that the scores between battery powered and plugged in were close. About 10% difference (where normally like 20%). Which means most people won’t run into any issues with the processor. It has integrated graphics which means you won’t be playing any demanding games on this. Only mobile or old games. I have attached photos of the battery vs plugged in PCMark10 results I got. Along with SSD speeds. Those translated mean it is good for office work, productivity, web browsing, chatting, writing, essentials, emails, spreadsheets. Not good for video editing, photo editing, digital content creation, rendering, and alright at photo stuff. CONCLUSION: This is a solid laptop that does more right than wrong. Most of the parts are budget components which I would expect at this price point. I enjoy using it and I don’t have any real negatives. However, I don’t have anything stellar to say about it either. It does its job, and it does it well. But there are some other laptops at or around the same price that I think you get more bang for you buck as they come with OLED displays and slightly better ports (such as thunderbolt). But you don’t get the 2-in-1 feature or as good of build quality. And they certainly don’t look as premium. If you’re coming from an older Inspiron (like the Inspiron 2-in-1 7405) it is an upgrade all around. As it has slightly (and I mean slightly) better everything. With the biggest difference being the screen.

A solid 2-in-1, but not top of the line
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There can be a lot to consider when looking at a 2-in-1 laptop, but when looking for somewhere to start, this isn't a bad laptop to start your search with. The AMD 7000-series Ryzen 5 is more than capable for most tasks and even some light gaming, and won't leave you wanting more. The nice display is nice and sharp, with a bright screen. I could see the screen easily while sitting in the shade on a bright sunny day, with the screen brightness set at max. And even with brightness set at max, I was able to download updates and watch youtube without having to worry about the battery. So, there are a few corners cut on this laptop, but screen, battery, and CPU are not among them. The display is a 16:10 aspect ratio, meaning it's slightly more square than a television, which some people like. Where Dell went for cost-cutting is with weight, and RAM. This laptop only comes with 8gb of RAM, which is pretty bare-minimum (I really think most computers should be shipping with 16gb these days), so some more RAM intensive websites or programs will introduce slowness, which is unfortunate, and doesn't appear to be upgradable. As far as 2-in-1 laptops go... I don't have a scale with me, but this is a bit on the heavier side, given its size. It doesn't feel cheap by any stretch, just hefty. I thought this might be from cooling, but the cooler looks average inside, despite it looking like they included 2 heat vents on the back, one is a dummy. That being said, even on hot days, I've not had much issue with heat or fan noise, so maybe the cooling is adequate, but usually I find laptops are under-cooled (which means it could slow down in hot environments, or the case can become hot to the touch and uncomfortable to rest on your lap). Dell has configured the screen and back of this laptop to lift up a little bit with the screen open in a normal clamshell configuration, which is nice for ergonomics, which I'm glad they did since it's something that's usually tossed to the side in favor of appearance (side note, this metallic blue is pretty slick looking). Upward firing speakers on either side of the keyboard are also very nice. Anytime I've used a laptop where the speakers are hidden underneath have usually sounded muddled and quiet. You won't have that problem here, as the sound is loud and clear. Quality isn't going to knock your socks off, but just having the speakers where they are makes it automatically better than half the laptops out there. One other thing to note on bloatware... Dell included "SmartByte", which is a program by Rivet Networks. It's apparently designed to optimize your network traffic, but a quick google search shows there is some bad experiences with the app. Uninstalling it doesn't seem to fully get rid of it either since some services remain. There don't seem to be many recent complaints, but I uninstalled it anyway to avoid unexpected issues down the road. Also, includes McAffee, which is pretty standard, but easy to uninstall these days. Overall, a solid slightly lower-end 2-in-1 laptop

Solid performer at a good value
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Multipurpose laptop at a good price point. I really like this computer even though the ram should be at least 12 or 16 gig. My understanding is the Ram is solider onto the mother board and cannot be upgraded or expanded. This laptop is pretty much buy it as is since the ram cannot be upgraded. However for my use the laptop is more than adequate and actually performs really well. Setting up the computer was pretty simple and during the setup process it installed applications that it thought I might want/need based on the setup questions. Once setup and working there is hardly any bloatware that comes preinstalled on this computer. The programs that are installed by Dell are actually pretty handy and not intrusive to the user experience. There is a 30 day trial of Mcafee, I did receive a few pop ups about my trial and when it will expire. I disabled the pop ups as they got annoying and once the trial is over, I will remove the application from the computer. One of the applications installed by Dell is called smartbyte, this application shows you available Wi-Fi networks and which ones are the best. I thought it was helpfull on my home network to see which wi-fi was the fastest and most stable. The other dell applications assist with updates, one being the BIOS. I thought was helpful instead of trying to manually download and update the BIOS on m own. The computer performs very well and is quick to load and use applications. I used Office 365 through my work account. I was able to login into Office on this PC and continue to use it as if I was at my office. I also downloaded XBox onto this laptop to try out gamming. I was able to play cloud gamming without any issues. I also downloaded a game (Dirt 5) which ran flawlessly on this computer. I thought for sure the graphics would be reduced or the game would be glitchy. I was happily surprised that it ran totally fine, and the graphics looked great! The only downside was the computer fan ran on high the whole time I was playing, and battery life took a big hit which was totally understandable. I wouldn't recommend this computer if you're a hardcore gamer, but if you like playing games every so often you totally can with this laptop. Watching movies was also very nice as the screen is HD and looks stunning. The speakers can be used at max volume without distortion and sound good enough for use. The computer also has a decent amount of space to download movies to watch on the go. Which brings me to my next point, this laptop is pretty light and can be used as tablet. The hinges for the screen are pretty strong and in laptop or tablet mode the screen stays in place with little movement. The touch screen is very responsive and was a pleasure to use unlike my last touch screen laptop. The keyboard is very easy for me to type on and is also backlight. The touchpad!!!! I love this touchpad! My last laptop the touchpad felt like an afterthought and was clunky and felt like it was going to break. This touchpad is amazing and works so well! It's very large and has the perfect sensitivity. When clicking you get a nice thunk sound/feel, and I don't feel the need to use an external mouse like I do with most laptops. The rest of the laptop is very well built and is very light. The color is lavender blue, I was thinking more purple, but the color is a very nice silvery blue. In darker settings it's a nice blue and in brighter settings its more silvery blue. I really like the way it looks as it's not a boring black or silver but is not over the top to make it stick out. The computer is also thin and pretty light to carry. This Dell laptop has two USB C ports (one is used for charging) HDMI, standard USB, Headphone jack, and a SD card slot. I think this is a generous number of ports for a laptop and can cover most user's needs. Overall I feel like this is a great laptop that is built very well and functions wonderfully. The battery life has been pretty good as well. The built in webcam is one of the best I have every used and zoom/skype images have been very clear and vivid. If you need a good solid laptop for work/school/personal/light gaming, this is the one to check out. This is an overall solid build computer that I personally enjoy using for every task!

Nice 2-In-1 For Everyday Use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.INITIAL CONFIGURATION & INSTALLED APPS Like many Dell products, this Inspiron proved to be issue free during initial set-up and configuration. Between Windows update and the Dell Owner Website, any initial configuration, set-up, or driver issues were easily rectified. I highly recommend browsing the Dell driver update website based on your Dell Service Tag, as Windows update failed to identify the most recent bios update. Windows update found 1 bios update, but Dell had an updated one on their website. The first bios update to 1.2.1 was extremely nerve racking and took nearly 10 minutes. Most of that with no movement on the progress bar. Fortunately, the update installed without issue & there have been no performance or driver issues. Dell doesn’t deliver the laptop to you with a pure, unaltered version of Windows 11. Instead, there is a moderate amount of bloatware. Included in the unnecessary bloatware is McAfee Anti-Virus (installed by default & always has issues being totally wiped clean), numerous Dell assistants and software, 3 full versions of Office 365 (English, Spanish, and French), as well as McAfee Web Advisor. While this may not normally be an issue (other than McAfee), but with only 512GB of NVMe space, every little bit counts. DISPLAY AND KEYBOARD The 14” display is very crisp and clear. The touchscreen supports a better than full HD resolution of 1900 x 1200. The display has quite a bit of glare, as it is a very reflective surface, but it is very nice to look at once you get the color adjusted. Speaking of the display, initial color accuracy is way off. Honestly, when I first got the laptop, I was kind of put off by the out of the box color reproduction. It was yellowy and unpleasant to look at. After several hours of use, I finally got tired of the colors and grabbed my colorimeter. Using the colorimeter and profiling software, the color accuracy was VASTLY improved and almost dead on. Now the display is bright, crisp, clear, and very pleasing to look at. Colors are now much truer to life. The keyboard is equally as pleasing to use. Even with a more compact size than I am used to, the keys have a nice, responsive feel, without a lot of the membrane style mushiness. Overall, the keyboard and display provide for a premium feel, better than its current price point. UPGRADEABILITY This is one of the few areas that leaves the consumer wanting. The specs for this machine are what is considered entry-level at this point. 512GB of hard drive space and only 8GB of RAM. Not that it is a bad thing, as most computers can be upgraded as time progresses and users’ needs increase. Unfortunately, the Inspiron 14’s RAM is not upgradeable, as confirmed by the Dell associates. The NVMe drive and Wi-Fi adapter are upgradeable. The NVMe drive shipped with the Inspiron is a 2230 drive, but Dell has wisely opted for the ability for an end-user put a normal 2280 sized NVMe drive. Wi-Fi card is a standard Key A or E card and replaceable as well, but I have experienced no issues with the RealTek Wi-Fi 6E card installed from the factory, as Wi-Fi connections have proven consistent and reliable with good speeds. BATTERY LIFE Battery life has been averaging around 3 hours, more or less. I’m sure this could be increased by using the Battery Saver function built into Windows 11 or by lowering the brightness down from 120 nits as recommended by my monitor calibration software. However, the display is so crisp and natural looking at these settings, I hate to reduce overall brightness. CONCLUSION This would make a good laptop for anyone needing a basic and dependable machine. This display is nice to look at (once calibrated) and the overall feel and functionality of the 2 in 1 design is quite good. Battery life is decent for being such a small battery, but I still wish it had more reserve capacity. The only thing holding this back from a 5-star rating, is the inability to add more RAM and the McAfee Anti-Virus installed an active immediately from start-up. Speed and responsiveness have never been an issue. A small, lightweight laptop with good performance, crisp display, and excellent ergonomics. RECOMMENDED

Nice, but only 8gb these days??
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Kind of love this, but at the same time don't totally recommend it. The display is beautiful, it's nice to type on, trackpad works great, speakers aren't bad. The CPU is good. My only issue is the memory. It's not expandable or replaceable. 8gb is terrible. Brand new it comes with so much bloatware from dell that it was using 7 of the 8gb of memory just sitting idle. I got all the updates, drivers, bios, etc and removed everything dell related and disabled a few windows bloatware bits and got it down to around 4.5gb used out of 8. I have the AMD ryzen 5 varient so I went to amd's website and got the autodownloader for all the amd drivers. There was a lot of updates. At least now there's some free memory for other apps. Other than the memory thing, it's a great design. I love the size and tablet mode is awesome. The SSD is changable fortunately. It comes with a smaller one, 2230 sized I believe, but looks like a 2280 would fit which is good news for when that day comes. I like things that are repairable and upgradable. This isn't that! But I got it open box at a great price and wanted it mostly for the tablet abilities and it's fantastic now that I got the memory issue under control. In my opinion in 2023/2024, no computer especially one of this price range should have less than 12gb of memory. It's good for a light user, but I'd recommend software debloating if you need to do much more than that. If you can afford it, go for the ryzen 7, 1tb ssd, 16gb model. MUCH better for the price difference. Especially if you're lucky enough to catch a sale or open box deal!

Good All-Rounder with One Minor Caveat
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A solid little mid-ranger with excellent bang for the buck, especially at the sale price of $550. This laptop delivers great battery life, modern connectivity including Wifi 6, two Type C charging ports (say goodbye to proprietary chargers) and ample external display connectivity either through the HDMI port or either of the two USB C ports working in DisplayPort mode through a dock or adapter. It's relatively lightweight, feels fairly sturdy, and also offers a good 1080P (really 1200P) 16:10 touch display. While many won't use the touch screen, the option is nice. Also, for those coming from an older 13", this laptop may be a similar footprint despite the larger screen size, mainly due to the fairly thin bezels. The processor is very snappy and responsive, and being a modern 6 core, is capable of some heavy lifting. The onboard graphics is also capable of light gaming (mainly esports titles) but measure your expectations accordingly: this is not a gaming machine. The only weak point is the soldered 8 GB of RAM. I feel that, without changing anything else, a bump to 16 GB (even for an extra $50 or $100) would have made this nearly perfect. 8 GB is enough for many people, but we're leaving the era where this standard is near-universally sufficient.

Attractive Laptop For Solid Productivity
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the past few years I’ve had a couple Dell computers, most recently a desktop which was nearly dead out of the box. I was skeptical of the performance I’d find from the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 Laptop I got from Tech Insider but I was willing to try again if only to verify I just got a dud last time. This is a convertible laptop, so it has a touch screen and can be folded all the way back to be a large tablet if you so desire. The keyboard is standard QWERTY with the number keys above (no 10 key) and function and volume keys above those. There’s a fingerprint reader in the top right, it's small but seems to work well. Under the hood is an AMD Ryzen 5 7530U with integrated graphics (again, standard for non-gaming laptops), 8 gigs of RAM, and a 455 gb hard drive (only 400 is usable). I was excited to find that it features two USB-C ports (one for charging), an HDMI port, a single USB-A, and an SD Card reader. The laptop overall its a metal shell in a really cool “blue violet” color, which is really just metallic light blue, and it feels hefty enough to take a little knocking around if you wanted to take it to work or airplane trips. This is a laptop for productivity, you won’t be playing many games or doing many intensive graphic design/photo editing jobs here but it handled Photoshop well enough. The keyboard feels a little cramped even for a laptop but it gets the job done. Touchpad was fine, screen is OK but in direct sunlight its hard to read even on the highest brightness settings. I found the sound output to be pretty good and fairly loud compared to a lot of laptops I’ve used before. Battery is listed as running for 12 hours, and like any computer your mileage will vary but I charged it up overnight when I got it and haven’t plugged it in again since. Its now day four and I have 43% left, which is better than I expected considering I turned up the screen brightness. Mind, that’s only pulling it out to play with for a couple hours here and there but still the battery seems solid, which is a huge point in the pros column. Overall I’m impressed with this laptop, its not going to be mistaken for cutting edge technology but it will let you do your bills, watch some movies, type up a review for Best Buy, and still have plenty of battery left to get you through a full day of work or school. If you’re looking for a well built and attractive computer to get stuff done then you may want to check this out.
