I drove 2 hours to the best buy that had it , it was open box around 800 and last one. I needed a new computer for work since my old computer had an intel 5 6th gen, it was time for something more powerful , and i though this was a good deal especially having a ryzen 7 and 16gb ram , took me few mins to set up windows 10 it looked so beautiful when I opened it however I saw that battery wasnt going up and it has been plugged in for already more than 20 mins, it's an open box laptop geek certified and already had issues on the start with the battery , I was typing and there was some lag on my keyboards and just for normal browsing it was very slow , even my old laptop was much faster doing normal tasks , I did some battery test and found had it had so many issues and warning , return it that same day. I'm not sure how best buy can sell his type of low quality open box computers on their stores , my $300 dollar old computer outperform this trash.
just sucks that i drove so much just to be disappointed , i usually don't write reviews , but this time I needed too , never getting a dell laptop again. hopefully this review can help someone.

Sleek and Slim In Design

When first opening the packaging of the laptop, the first thing I noticed immediately was the sleek and slim design. The compact size allows for being able to put in your purse, briefcase, backpack, and or tote bag. This design allows for easy travel. Compared to other laptops I have owned, it is also lightweight. That is a plus for me, as I try to limit the number of heavy objects I lift.
When setting up the laptop loved the interactive feature of being able to use voice commands to help in setting up the device.
This laptop uses Windows 10, the other laptop I own uses Windows 7. The laptop also comes with fingerprint authentication. The laptop has a touchscreen and found it fairly easy to use. I also host a lot of virtual meetings. As a business professional, I host virtual meetings. Recently, used the laptop while hosting a virtual meeting, the sound and video quality were excellent. The display gave the appearance for me as though I was right there in the room with the team I was interacting with. That was the first thing my family noticed while they saw me in the virtual meeting.
When downloading software and other programs to the laptop the download speeds were fast. Was highly impressed with this, as sometimes some laptops can have a lag in time when downloading. Watched videos on social media platforms as well, with no issues. For those of you that have never owned a Dell product, please be sure to notice the small little slider at the top of the laptop screen to unhide the camera.
PROS:
Can be used as a tablet
Built-in Alexa/Voice Recognition (Loved that feature)
Slim Design
Fast processing speed
Keyboard lights up
Long Battery Life
Audio and Visual Display Great
Ability to Sync your phone
HD Webcam
Usually, I do not care for touchpads. This one was easy to use. Thank you for the ease of use on this Dell.
CONS:
Can get hot fast if downloading too many items
Number KeyPad would have liked to see
No CD slot (but know a lot of newer versions of laptops, don't offer this feature because of many using apps to listen to music.), I'm old school would like to have seen this feature, but it's not a deal-breaker.
Slightly concerned about the hinges of the laptop, wondering how they will hold up. But they appear to be pretty sturdy.
Other than that, I actually like it and have been getting compliments with the team I work with.

An Incredible Laptop

This Dell Inspiron looks like it took some of its design details from the Macbook Pro - but the exterior is a little more angular and the Sandstorm color/finish is far more attractive (though more susceptible to smudges and fingerprints). It's a bit heavier but it feels incredibly solid and well-constructed.
The 512GB SSD gives me a full boot into Windows from off in 13 seconds - full installation leaves over 400GB free.
The keyboard is responsive and comfortable and the touchpad is surprisingly large and useful for such a small laptop. The screen is bright and clear and beautiful.
If this were just a basic laptop, I think it would be an excellent deal at this price. But this Inspiron also sports a touch-screen display that swivels back 180° to allow it to be used as a tablet. And the transition and touch features work flawlessly.
I have only three caveats: (1) this is the first laptop I have used in a while that actually gets kinda hot - I found that it could get uncomfortably hot when it was sitting on my lap, (2) because of the heat, I guess it needs a somewhat aggressive fan and I found the frequently cycling fan to be a little bit of an annoyance, & (3) the audio sounds very clear but at full volume the sound is not very loud and I found it to be unsatisfying.
The positives here overwhelm the negatives, though. Dell is throwing down the gauntlet with this laptop. The size might make it undesirable to gaming users but I can't imagine who else might be unimpressed by this release!

Price - 5/5
Great value for money amongst other laptops in the same price range.
Performance - 4.5/5 (not gaming)
The 4700u has been doing pretty well for my usage. I use it for developing hobbyist C++, Python on WSL2 with Docker and VS Code integration, the laptop doesn't slow down at all (I do not have specific numbers for compile times). The GPU is so-so and just about manages to play Overcooked at 1080p. I do not intend to use this laptop to play games.
Build - 4.5/5
The build quality is excellent, not a lot of flexing. The only thing that's scares me is rotating the screen completely 360 degrees, the double hinged mechanism does not inspire confidence. Not light, not heavy, feels good in the hands.
Keyboard - 3.5/5
Nothing special, good enough to type with sufficient key travel. However there is a lot of space on either side of the keyboard that could have been used for the home/end keys which I use often to navigate through code.
Trackpad - 3.5/5
I can't pinpoint what's wrong with the trackpad, but the mouse movement doesn't feel completely smooth (extremely minor and may be subjective). I typically disable mouse acceleration but it didn't help here. Also the trackpad could have been bigger.
Speakers - 4/5
This was a surprise since I expected some costs to be cut here, but the speakers are surprisingly good for downwards firing speakers. Flip it around in tablet mode, and they sound pretty good (about 80% as good as a Macbook Pro, which I consider to be the best mainstream laptop speakers).
Wireless Networking - Good
Didn't quantify this one, but my Geforce Now streams have been stable most of the time.
I/O - 4/5
Thank goodness for the 2 type A ports. Has almost everything I need exceptt for an ethernet jack, but I guess no one can escape the dongle life. I didn't care about Thunderbolt.
Battery - 4/5
For such small battery, I sometimes get a full day's (about 6-8 hours) use of mostly writing code, compiling a couple of time, some Youtube. However I wish it had a bigger battery because it would have easily pushed it over 10 hours. (Dunno why Dell handicapped it)
Screen - 3/5
This is arguably the weakest point of the laptop, although not too bad. I'm just barely fine with the 6 bit panel since I intend to use it to practise programming and fill out paper work. The touch screen is actually pretty responsive.
What bothers me is the huge backlight bleed visible on the top of the screen when the laptop boots up. It is not apparent when in use, but it is a reminder of the subpar screen every time I turn the laptop on. Also the screen seems to be poorly calibrated. I used the Dell CinemaColor program to adjust it to my preferences.
Overall - 4/5
It's got a pretty good price to performance ratio for certain people. If you do not intend to watch a lot of videos or play heavy games, it's fine for pretty much anyone else.
One last thing, it is absolutely abhorrent the amount of preinstalled carp that Dell puts on this computer. The Power Manager (to restrict charge to 80%) and CinemaColor are the ones I kept.

First my home office is WiFi 6 AX network capable routers the newest and fastest WiFi. I,m replacing my 4 year old 13 inch 4k laptop with this new Dell WiFi 6 AX capable. My aging eyes with the old 13 inch 4k resolution the text was always to small to read. This new dell even with only 1080 resolution is much more clear and easier to read wi fi 6 AX is a big improvement in speed. This unit is very well built and solid. Back lit keyboard is a plus, power button built in the keyboard on top right much more convenient. The price is not bad for all you get including fold over tablet capable, touch screen, 512gb solid state drive, 16 gb memory. Just an awesome well quality laptop will last for years well worth it you can't go wrong. Great and affordable for students.

Outstanding AMD Ryzen Laptop
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Dell Inspiron 14 7000 2-in-1-14 inch AMD Ryzen 7 Laptop is truly outstanding and checks practically every box from design to performance. I have used Dell Laptops for many years and when I saw the most recent lineup included the Ryzen 7 CPU I was ecstatic. The setup was fast and straightforward. Dell even included a pop up warranty registration form you can fill out and submit. It creates an account and registers the computer. Should you ever need warranty support/service within the provided period you are set.
Pros:
* Design - Simply put, the Sandstorm color looks high class. It includes a backlit keyboard. The laptop chassis feels well built and is lightweight only weighing slightly over 5 lbs. It does not have a CD/DVD drive which I prefer because it decreases the bulkiness of the laptop as well as reduces the weight. Practically every software program is available digitally and if for some reason it is not you can easily attach an external CD/DVD drive. Lastly, I find the 14 inch screen size is ideal for everyday tasks. Laptops with screens larger than 14 inches feel bulky/oversized and screens smaller than 14 inches can be difficult to read text on.
* Tablet mode - This adds great functionality to the laptop making the screen touch friendly. It is an ideal feature for those who want the ability to take handwritten notes with an Active Pen you can buy separately. I have no doubt it will be able to withstand repeated 360 degree flips into tablet mode given its well made chassis.
* Hardware - The Ryzen 7 processor included in this laptop makes it one of the best in its class. It sports an 8 core 16 thread processor which is an absolute beast. If you try to find an Intel based system with a similar processor expect to spend significantly more to achieve the same or less performance. It includes a 512 GB SSD which is great considering most laptops in this price range come with a 256 GB. It includes 16 GB of DDR4 RAM which is really the sweet spot for the large majority of users. I had no trouble multitasking between multiple browser tabs, Netflix, and Microsoft office. The integrated AMD Radeon Graphics also supported light gaming (Minecraft) without any issues; however, remember this is not designed to be a gaming laptop so take that into consideration when purchasing.
* WIFI 6 Connectivity - Dell included the necessary hardware to support the newest WIFI technology, WIFI 6. If you have a compatible WIFI 6 router, you will be able to take advantage of even faster, more stable speeds. I have the Linksys Max Stream AX6000 WIFI 6 router and this laptop is able to take advantage of the new 802.11 ax standard.
* HD webcam with cover - The included built in sliding cover was a great addition. I hated having to put a piece of tape over the camera or add an external webcam cover.
* Fingerprint reader - I have always liked having the ability to sync my fingerprint for quick access.
* Touchpad - It is very responsive and accurate. I had no issues with it not registering clicks.
* Nice assortment of ports - It includes a HDMI, two 3.2 Gen 1 USB, headphone/microphone jack, built-in media reader, and Thunderbolt 3 type-C.
Overall, I really like this laptop. Dell did a great job with the design and included hardware. It offers great aesthetics and performance for the price. I highly recommend it.

A perfectly adequate product

So... this is a perfectly adequate product for its purpose - a daily driver. But it doesn't really excel at anything
To start with, it has a great metallic build quality, and everything feels premium to the touch. However, I would have preferred much thinner bezels on the 14" screen. A lot of other companies are providing that in this form factor, and Dell should have as well. Most glaring is the absence of Windows Face Hello IR sensors, given the big bezel at the top.
There are no complaints on the IO side, since it has all the ports you would need - headset jack, 2 USB A, full SD card slot, USB C (can also be used for power delivery), full HDMI.
Power through USB C, is an added benefit, given that this also has a normal power port. Wish they could have squeezed in an ethernet port, but I think I am asking for too much there.
The AMD chip in the laptop is its shining star - it is fast and snappy and handles pretty much anything you throw at it. However, when I got the laptop it was absolutely horrendous - it needed a BIOS update to perform to its optimal level. What's more frustrating was that Dell has multiple applications that act as driver update delivery managers, and myDell showed this update, while Dell Drivers and Update did not. So, please go in and update the BIOS as the first thing you do when you get the machine.
Coming back to the things Dell could have done better - the keyboard layout. The fact that the home and end keys are shared with F11 and F12 is inexcusable. I can't explain how many times I have tried to press Home and ended up with my browser in full screen mode. There has to be a better way. Also, for me the keys are a bit too far apart, and as I write this review I can feel my hands are having to be very conscious about hitting the keys.
The fingerprint sensor on the power button is also a bit of a hit and miss in my experience at least. Not taking too many points away from this, since anyways I would have preferred the Windows Face Hello login.
The touch sensitive screen is an added bonus, and the screen overall has great viewing angles and color accuracy. I have not used the tablet fold mode too often. At this size its not that useful, but it is helpful to use in folded mode for better video viewing experience.
I have beaten up on the laptop enough in my review till now, but I am using it as my daily driver now, since my previous 15.6" Dell laptop was a bit too heavy to be used while moving around. And the fact is for daily work and daily browsing the performance is amazing. At one point you just stop thinking about it - and that's the best compliment for any machine.

My seven year-old Lenovo laptop was starting to show its age, so I was thrilled to try the new Dell's Inspiron 2-in-1.
The two most exciting features to me were the touch-screen and the privacy shutter for the built-in camera (no more sticky note to cover it!)
The hinge to convert from laptop to tablet is pretty tight but maybe it'll loosen up over time or I'll get more used to it eventually.
It's not a feature I personally need/use but the fingerprint reader to unlock the laptop may be an appealing feature for someone who needs extra layer of security.
One slight negative was its weight. Since it's a smaller laptop (14") compared to my old one (16"), I was hoping it'd weight less but not by much. The same could be said about its power adapter.
However, those are minor concerns, and I'm pleased with this new 2-in-1 overall.

Most laptops with these specs (16 gb RAM) would start at a higher price point. But Dell’s consumer friendly pricing on top of AMDs value make this an absolute steal. Build quality is top notch with a tight hinge and no flex in the display. And the touchscreen is very responsive. The keyboard is also very good with decent key travel. I admit that I did end up returning this computer. Basically with a 2 in 1, what you see is what you get. There’s no way of adding RAM
later down the line to extend the life of the laptop or changing out the ssd. It’s all soldered on. That’s not a knock on dell or any other maker. Its just the nature of how these PCs are designed.

Great laptop. Fast Ryzen 7 processor. Has available slot for upgrading ram. Touch screen supports capacitative pen. 14” screen is good size (larger laptops are too large I think). Screen is plenty bright for indoor use. Cool bronze color. Not exactly for gaming but great for productivity. Webcam has slider to physical block/close it. Setup takes a couple hours to get going and to let Dell’s Support Assistant fully upgrade its bios and drivers and to also have Windows updates installed. Comes pre installed with 30 days McAfee antivirus which works well while you decide to keep it or get another antivirus program.

Dell and Ryzen 7

Overall I like this Dell model (i7405-A371TUP-PUS). I chose to go with the AMD Ryzen 7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Sandstorm. Glad I went with the Ryzen 7, it's a fast processor with a decent amount of RAM. Originally I was going to purchase the Ryzen 5 - 8GB Memory - 256GB SSD. With the Ryzen 5, I knew that I would have to add more RAM to it as soon as I got it. I would want a minimum of 16GB. After comparing the two (2), I knew in the long run the Ryzen 7 was a better buy. It helped that it was on sale and I purchased an Open-Box Excellent - Certified, which allowed me to save even more.
I don't understand why manufactures ship Windows 10 machines with 8GB RAM, it is the bare minimum. Okay, so I do know - cost.
Neither pro or con, sometimes I wonder if I have completely shut down my Dell, because when I open up the top the laptop automatically turns on.
As for the keyboard, I like the darker keys and prefer the back lighting to come from only the letters and around the key itself. I had a chrome keyboard before purchasing this Dell and I couldn't stand it unless I was using it during the daylight or a well lite room. I don't think I ever want another chrome keyboard.
Con: I don't like what Dell has done with the Function keys. Either Dell should not have doubled up on the uses, made two (2) separate rows of keys or made the settings the primary function and having to use the 'fn' key + Function key together.
Yes, I gave it a 5, only because I couldn't give it a 4.5+, which is due to the Function keys on the keyboard. I find myself trying to increase or decrease the volume and forgetting to press the fn key at the same time. To me the was the keyboard is laid out you would think the primary function would be volume up down, screen brightness, keyboard light, home and end versus their primary function being F1, F2, F3, etc ...
Overall I like this laptop and would recommend not only Dell Inspiron 14" 2-in-1, I would include the AMD Ryzen chip too.
If one buys the Ryzen 5, on the good side keep this in mind both the RAM and SSD are able to be upgraded on your own. It's not hard to do either one of them and they don't have to be done at the same time.

This laptop has excellent display, can run more than ten tabs at a time, and the charge lasts all day. The hinges are sturdy so you don’t have to worry about it falling back. I have yet to download any games on it so I can’t say how it performs in that way but streaming Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, etc has been amazing. The tablet/stand mode makes the screen appear bigger. I think the 14” is the perfect size and the screen blocks out all glare when sitting in front windows even though it is a glossy finish. The keypad is great and the finger print scanner works every time for me. The machine starts quickly and the set up only took eight minutes. Only thing that I was disappointed in was that it is a much darker color (like bronze) in person but it has grown on me in the past week. To get 16 GB of ram and Ruben 7 for 800 dollars is rare, so that’s a plus! Would recommend this laptop for anyone looking for a laptop for college/everyday use that runs fast and is below 1000 dollars.

Very fast laptop and the screen is fine. No, its not 4k, but it has a very sharp picture and touchscreen works great on it. Dell 7405 2in1 - AMD 4700U
It is difficult to find a premium laptop that is using the new AMD 4th generation processors. This laptop is one of the best I have seen that isn't a gaming laptop, and has a reasonable price for it's specs. I will go through the specs and try and answer questions that I had in regards to this PC (and many others I was looking at!).
Build - Premium
The build on this machine is a premium build. It is thin and light, metal, with a great finish that is a dark gold. The keyboard keys have a slight resistance that makes it a pleasure to type on. The touchpad is smooth and has a finish that allows your finger to glide across easily. Two finger scrolling worked well, and I didn't notice the cursor jumping around when using it. Ports are standard for a PC this size. Speakers are not bad, plenty loud for my ears, but don't expect anything amazing for such a small laptop.
Display - 1080P, 250 nit, Glossy, Touchscreen
I ran DisplayHDR on the machine, and it registered as a 250 nit screen, with a max luminance of 270. It is a 6 bit panel. Contrast ratio is 540. Average sRGB coverage - 54%.
The screen is average at best for a laptop, and is probably reflected in the price you pay, as the screen does not match the premium build of the laptop overall. That being said, I think it serves its purpose well. It does get it's fair share of reflection, so get a anti-reflective screen protector if that bothers you.
RAM - 16GB Single Channel (1 Dimm)
The RAM on this PC is all on one dimm, which means it is single channel RAM. This means the computer will be slower on some tasks than dual channel RAM (you can research this on the web). The laptop does have 2 DIMM slots (according to the specs in the manual), so it could be updated to dual channel if you wished, but at an extra expense. Plus, you have to be comfortable with opening up the PC and doing the install.
Performance
The laptop benchmarked well for both use as a desktop and workstation (93% for desktop performance and 71% for workstation on userbenchmark). Gaming was only 22%. This is to be expected with the Intel Graphics. This machine will work well for both students and business users, with gamers wanting to look elsewhere for a better graphics card.
Fan Noise - Minimal
The fans do run when the machine is working hard on a task, but they are pretty soft in comparison to other brands I have heard. It is a soft whirring sound, higher in pitch but not annoying. Laptop does get warm, but not hot.
In my opinion, this is one of the best and most premium builds in an ultra portable laptop with an AMD 4th generation processor currently available. I am sure there will be more, but at this price, the compromises seem to work out. Do your comparisons with other models and brands (Acer, Lenovo, and ASUS all have budget ultra portable AMD's at the time of this review), and I think you will find this laptop will meet both your aesthetic and performance needs.

I have not heard the fan come on at all while doing light work and program installs.
Battery reported 8+ hours after working unplugged for close to an hour.
Nice, but a little heavier than competitors, however it is metal "housing" not squeaky plastic.
Hinges are nice and rigid.
The fingerprint reader has been given me a lot of grief. Constantly sending me back and forcing the PIN entry.
It may have been remedied by moving the finger far forward on the button when teaching it my fingerprint.
One problem that others have reported as well. The ON/OFF/FINGERPRINT button is located next to Delete button (actually at the same location where the Delete button is on all other laptops.
So there is high risk of pressing the OFF button when hitting the Delete button.

This Dell 2-in-1 is best in terms of performance and value for the price. It’s got the latest and greatest WiFi 6, 16GB of RAM (upgradeable to 32GB), and an AMD 7 processor.
