I have to be honest, this laptop turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be. I’m a Toshiba fan, but since they discontinued their laptop production I was forced to find another manufacturer. Unboxing was the typical laptop experience. It’s well-packed with lots of cushioning to ensure no flaws, and the accessories, like the power cord, only served as additional padding. No user’s manual; that’s all online now, but there is a quick-start guide (helpful). A stylus is also included, and more on that later. It’s heavier than I was expecting, but after comparing the weight to my current laptop I found that it was, indeed, lighter. I’m attributing this to the glass needed for the touchscreen. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that decreasing screen size from my current 17” to the Dell’s 15” wasn’t overwhelming. I assumed that there would be ~some~ battery charge to allow initial startup, much like a new phone comes. I also assumed that there would be a clear “on/off” button, but you know what they say when you assume something. Once I unraveled the power cord and plugged it in, the system booted right up, and when I say “right up”, it was probably the fastest boot I’ve experienced. Setup was done in minutes, including logging my fingerprint for the biometric login application. As per habit, I ran updates on everything, but even that process was extremely quick. The screen is super clear and bright, which I expected from 4KUHD capability, and the touchscreen works marvelously. I’m wary of how much smudging takes place, as well as cleaning it, so I’m still mainly using non-touchscreen methods at this point. Sound is as good as can be expected given the size of the speakers, as well as the fact that “name brand” in a computer isn’t exactly “name brand”. I’m very pleased with the keyboard layout and ease of use. The stylus is awesome, too. So far I’ve only used it to navigate the touchscreen instead of my finger, and it’s capable of much more that what I’m probably going to use it for, but it’s a great tool to have. It magnetically stores in a molded tray at the top of the keyboard until it’s needed. The battery life is amazing. I didn’t fully charge it when I was doing the initial setup, and it hasn’t been plugged back in for over a week, despite me using it several hours every other night. I’m waiting to see what happens when I run it low enough, but I might not have that much patience. I only have a few complaints, but a couple of them are enough that I keep thinking about how to fix them. First, the biometric fingerprint login process does not work; I keep having to enter my PIN instead. Doing some quick searches revealed that drivers needed to be updated, which were done, but the fingerprinting still doesn’t work. It’s apparently a conflict between Dell security and the driver. Secondly, the bundled packaging (i.e., Microsoft and McAfee) keep trying to impose their will upon me, and it won’t work. Between reminders to sign in to various Microsoft accounts and tools and reminders to look at McAfee, I’m in the process of disabling those “tools”. Finally, there are no instructions for the stylus that I’ve found; I’m just learning on the fly. There is also a tag wrapped around the spring for the battery compartment for some reason. DO NOT pull the tag – you have to cut it out. If you do, you’ll pull the spring out, and the pen won’t work because the spring is either inserted back the wrong way or too loose now. Finally, the case, both inside and outside, are very, VERY prone to fingerprints and smudges. I’ve used it several times now, and it’s apparent where I grab it to move from place to place and where/how I rest my hand on the touchpad. Overall, I’m surprisingly pleased at this laptop. The heft and some of the features that either don’t work or are too in your face are annoying, but they’re not enough to rate the purchase lower.

Love the feature that computer is on when you open lid. Good size for travel. So far it has met all my expections.
