I purchased an open box unit. Had office software installed on it so I could work from home. I will return this unit. Due to Coronavirus, that is difficult now. In addition, I’ll need to have office software installed on the new unit when I receive it. Pain in the add.

    Great display, Average laptop

This laptop is good at specs and has great hardware. But a price tag of 1500$ and few missing things make it an average laptop instead of a great one. Here are my detailed observations after almost two weeks of using it. The 4K display is absolutely great and everything looks gorgeous. But I think this display combined with a small 4 cell battery results in not-so-good battery life :( Also, I have seen some apps showing a little bit of lag which I am not sure what the root cause is. The other thing that is great about it is the keypad. The keys are soft and have a nice pop feel when they are pressed. The keypad also has a back light which helps in low light situations. The keypad also has the number pad which I personally always find very helpful. It also comes with an active pen (PN350M) and the laptop has a nice way to store it. There is a magnetic carved groove which holds the pen firmly but easily accessible in the tablet mode. When you fold the laptop closed, the pen is safe and sound for travel. The touchpad is just like other touchpads. 500 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM combined with intel Core i7 processor makes it good at all my day-to-day activities which includes coding, running builds and test servers. It is able to handle multiple applications without any issues or lag. It has GeForce MX250 graphics card but I would not recommend it for gaming specially latest games which are heavy on graphics. It has all the required and usual ports (1 USB-C, SD Card Reader, HDMI slot, 2 USB-A slots and headphone jack). It doesn't come with CD/DVD drive. The integrated web cam is average. It has a power on/off key with integrated finger print reader which I like as it makes logging on easy but I prefer face recognition which is available on my HP Specter more. The other good feature of the laptop is the fact that it can be used as a huge tablet :) The display is good and responsive to touch. I am not a creative person so I usually use it in the tablet mode only when I am reading something but I am sure creative people will find that mode more useful. The inbuilt speakers are really low and Dell could have definitely done better. So, overall this is a good laptop with great display but I think at 1500$ it should have had a bigger battery, better sounding speakers and better gaming performance.

      Shail,

Thanks so much for your detailed review. Here are a few tips to help extend the life of your computer's battery:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

The Dell Inspiron 7591 is a great laptop for everyday productivity tasks. While not built as a gaming PC or ultra portable this laptop does a respectable job at both, thanks to the included hardware. The chassis gives the laptop a premium feel, but at the cost of a slightly heavy feeling overall weight. The PCIe M.2 SSD drive is super fast. The laptop boots up in about 20s. Strangely though, when waking up from sleep it takes almost as long as a cold start. I think this could be improved upon. The 16GB of DDR4 memory means that you can have just about any number of applications running and the laptop won't miss a beat. I had several processing and graphics hungry apps running and the computer handled it with ease. The keyboard has a nice tactile feel to it. Battery life is just OK. The laptop ran for 5:45 hours with the screen brightness at 100% while playing a 720p video continuously. The battery life is no doubt affected by the 4K screen. The screen is very, very nice. It is nice and bright, bright enough that working at 50% brightness is comfortable, which will certainly improve the battery life. The Dell Active Pen works wonderfully right out of the box, even without any kind of calibration. One of the best features of this laptop design is the new Dell hinge which houses the Active Pen when not in use. Never misplace the Active Pen again! The Active Pen is held securely in a recess on the back hinge via strong magnets, and the design of the hinge allows the full range of motion while the Active Pen in in place. The Intel i7-10501U is an improvement over the 8th Gen processors. The boost speeds of up to 4.9mhz the processor handled most tasks I threw at it quickly. However, the processor did seem to throttle back rather quickly, which means the processor can't sustain 4.9mhz speed very long before thermal considerations drop it back to closer to 2.0mhz for continuous use. The GeForce MX250 graphics card lags behind other graphics card so don't expect to play graphics intensive games at 60fps with this laptop. I do a lot of photo editing and video streaming and workplace productivity tasks and this laptop is an all around great performer.

Bottom Line: The Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 packs the hardware and features to accommodate many demanding workflows. The most discerning users, however, should carefully consider the specs on this machine against their specific needs. Pros: sleek design, nice 4K touchscreen display, cinematic audio, novel pen storage in sturdy hinge, good performance for pro-workflows and apps Cons: 2-level clicking on trackpad difficult to use, only one TB3/USB-C port, proprietary charger, noticeable pen latency in some applications, fan can be noisy even under light load Review: Hardware-wise, this machine checks all of the boxes: Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and GeForce MX250 dedicated graphics. This is all enclosed in a sleek, wedge shaped black, brushed aluminum design. On my scale, the machine clocked in at 4 pounds, 10 oz, which is decent for a 15” laptop. The hinge is quite sturdy and magnetically secures the pen, providing a plethora of folding options that one would expect in a 2-in-1. The backlit keyboard has good key travel, and the light turns off when not in use. I get about 7 hours of battery life with a mixed workflow (creative apps, web browsing, video streaming, etc.). Watching content (e.g., 4K movies) on the laptop is really great. The 4K display has thin bezels and is bright and crisp, which delivers an immersive viewing experience. The speaker system did a good job at providing a cinematic audio, although, like many home systems, the dialogue seems too quiet, relative to the music and sound effects. This machine is specced for editing photo and video projects, and the machine handles Adobe Photoshop and 1080p video editing in Premier well. I also found the touchscreen to be quite accurate in Photoshop, despite the icons being fairly tiny. The pen, which is held quite securely in the magnetic hinge, is actually quite easy to remove thanks to a recess for your finger to grab onto in the end of the pen. It’s also very easy to use; once the battery is in, you can start using it with no additional setup. The only problem with tablet mode - which is generally always the case with a 2-in-1 - is that the keyboard faces down (e.g., toward the table) when you have it folded, and at nearly 5 pounds, you wouldn’t want to hold the machine as a tablet in your hand for very long. AAA gaming is possible on this laptop, but you’ll have to reduce the settings to medium or low to get a consistent frame rate. I was able to play Devil May Cry 5 at low-medium settings at 1080p smoothly, although there were some stutters/dropped frames when new enemies loaded into an environment. Thermal management is the biggest challenge in this regard, since the fans were on full blast during my short gaming sessions. I also noticed the fans running a bit streaming 4K video from Netflix and scrolling through the animated menus in Photoshop. I’m not a huge fan of the trackpad, which has two click-levels. The first click is really light, and I often click just by putting my fingers on the trackpad. The second level feels more like a traditional trackpad click, but you do have to put some effort to press in that deep. The problem for me is that I have trouble achieving my desired input: tap, light click, or deep click. I’m sure I’ll be able to adjust some of this in settings and over-time, but it does make the trackpad noticeably difficult to use. The pen works well (very responsive) in the built-in sketching software. However, I does feel a bit laggy when using it in PhotoShop. Finally, while I believe this machine will serve many working professionals well, some users may need a bit more connectivity or power. This laptop has two USB3 ports on the right side and one ThunderBolt 3 port on the left (along with a propriety charging port, HDMI, and microSD). That’s probably enough for most folks, but a second TB3 port instead of the proprietary charging port would have opened up more versatility, since TB3 supports charging passthrough. In terms of graphics power, the GeForce MX250 (w/ 2GB RAM) is an entry-level chip, so gamers and those with intense workflows (e.g., multiple 4K video streams) may want to consider more powerful hardware.

This is purely a productivity laptop, so if you're looking to game look elsewhere. I have used this convertible laptop for a month now and am enjoying everything about it. For starters, the pen holding design is perfect. The provider pen rests on the inside of the computer between the screen and the keyboard. Why is this a big deal? Well, on other laptops and tablets the pen would attach to the left or right of the screen, so when sliding the tablet/laptop into a bag for storage the pen would always come loose and detach. Not an issue with this convertible laptop! The keyboard is well thought out and the track pad is fluid and responsive. Booting times are fast since the hard drive is solid state. IN addition, I always recommend my friends to buy a laptop with a solid state hard drive because they are less prone to crashing, are slimmer therefore better for travel, and boot times are much faster. As for watching videos while on the go, I downloaded some movies on this bad boy for my 10 hour plane ride and it was a dream. I folded the laptop into tablet mode where the laptop rests on top of the keyboard, which in turn props up the screen and it was a much more comfortable viewing experience than trying to look at the tiny screen attached to the headrest in front of me. The 14ish inch screen on a headrest an arm's length away with unkown resolution is not going to compete with a 15.6" screen on top of my tray table playing 4k Ultra HD videos. Lastly, the pen is decent. You are not getting the responsive of a wacom which is dedicated to digital media, but the pen is best suited for this who will be casually using the pen to take notes and markup digital documents. This is my go to business/travel laptop, and I would take a serious look at it too if I were you.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series 2 in 1 model 7591 Black Does this laptop have it all? The Dell Inspiron Series were originally created as an affordable series that competes with other affordable brands, well not anymore as this laptop comes with a hefty price tag of $1349 Description This laptop has all the bells and whistles on paper with the below specs: Display: 15.6 UHD Touch display with resolution up to 3840 X 2160 and a refresh rate of 60 HZ with a 360 flip and fold laptop design. Memory: 16 GB DDR 4 RAM 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-10510U mobile processor HDD: 512GB intel SSD (PCI-e) + 32GB Optane Graphics Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce MX250 2GB Dell active pen Fingerprint reader Backlit keyboard Webcam HDMI port USB-C port SD card reader port Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports headphone/ microphone combo jack NO ethernet port. Non removable 4 cell battery Stereo speakers Software: Windows 10 Home Edition 64Bit Design: This laptop is designed with all types of users in mind. You can use this laptop if you are a student, or if you’re a businessman that needs high performing laptop with decent battery life and a professional look laptop. The black color is very attractive, add the very thin side and upper bezels and the glossy looking screen and smooth touch one color backlit keyboard and you got yourself one good looking laptop. This laptop is very thin with Dimensions at 0.7 inches only. Touch Pad: the touch pad is positioned well and is very comfortable and easy to use. Its a single plate with no physical right and left clicks edged with a nice chrome frame. The keyboard is soft touch with normal comfort for this class with decent size buttons and a dedicated numpad and fn keys. The Dell pen has a slot with magnets to hold it in place. Things I loved: The laptop has decent speed thanks to its 10th generation core I7 processor and 16GB memory, I was able to get 5 hours of continuous work with Adobe Photoshop, A Chrome Browser open with 10+ tabs, a youtube video playing in the background, and a remote connection with team viewer to work. The laptop was snappy & responsive and comfortable to perform different tasks. When folding the laptop in book or tent mode, the keyboard is automatically disabled. Although this is a 15.6 laptop with above 4.5 pounds it did feel light weight all the time because of how thin it is. It also didn't take a huge space in my laptop bag which is always a plus. Hinges look solid and I tried opening and closing them by grabbing the cover from different places and angels. As long as you are not roughing the laptop us, the hinges will be reliable for a long time to come. Sound volume and quality are very good for a laptop. I did enjoy listening to music and playing movies on this laptop and the sound never felt too low to enjoy. Things I didn’t love: Although the screen is a UHD 4K with great resolution but its white color is a bit too warm for my taste, it felt dimmed at points, and while watching 4K videos it was stunning, I wish it was a bit brighter. The blacks are good for a screen of this size and the contrast is great. The Dell pen although very easy to use but its not as smooth as an Apple pen or even the new Galaxy S6 Tab pen. And it didn't have wireless charging but a AAAA battery that will need to be replaced at some point. The cover of the laptop is a fingerprint magnet. When benchmarking CPU speed in both single and Multicore tests using Cinebench20 this laptop fell behind an 8th Generation Intel Core I7 8750H with 8GB of Ram and an NVIDIA GeForce 1050GTX. But that was a gaming laptop that is bulkier than the Dell with a huge power brick. The price is a bit much for a laptop series that used to be considered an affordable reliable laptop. Things I hated: The fingerprint security key is a hit and miss, it is far behind in accuracy and speed and won’t read correctly half the time. Maybe a new software update would solve the issue but for now, am sticking with password or pin. Finally, I am very happy with this Dell Inspiron laptop and its features and usability. And considering the long history of the Inspiron series, this is going to be a dependable laptop that would last for at least 4 years before becoming obsolete. The laptop was cool and quiet almost all the time except when benchmarking and rendering videos with Premier.

So far this laptop has been everything I need and more. I do a lot of photo work, so I needed something that could handle multiple photo applications open and fast editing between them. The touchscreen and the included pen have been a huge help, and I haven’t noticed any lag when I’ve had multiple tabs open. The battery life is quite good, and can last about 4 hours or so before I need to use the charger. The track pad is pretty sensitive, which is just something I need to get used to, but it doesn’t dampen the experience. If you are looking for something that is versatile, fast, and easy to use, this would be at the top of my recommendation list.

This laptop has a solid build quality and feels like it will hold up well to heavy use and travel. The weight is a little on the heavy side and could be lighter but I assume that is because it seems like more metal than plastic. The display cover shows fingerprints really badly but it does not give way to hard touches or pen use and the touch screen works well. The 4K display is vivid and bright and is even easy to read and use at lower brightness settings. The Dell Active Pen is included and works well with smooth writing/annotating and drawing on the screen using the built-in whiteboard and snipping tools. I also like the pen storage above the keyboard The Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card works fine for me right now but it’s an entry level card for lighter gaming The love how large the screen is and I could get a lighter laptop with a 13 inch screen but it’s really nice to have a 15.6 inch 2-in-1 that folds over like a really big tablet. The Power button is not marked but I guess that's because it’s also the fingerprint reader. The touchpad is responsive and precise Quality components for SSD drive, 16GB RAM and latest generation I7 processor make the working speed and boot time very fast. It is also a very quiet laptop and it does not get hot on the bottom. Battery life is good but could be better but considering that it’s a 10th gen I7 and a 4K display with a GeForce graphics card 5 hours that's pretty good. Backlit keyboard does not work except for a few seconds after startup. The doc says fn/F10 toggles the backlighting but I could not get that to work. Sound is fair but does not allow enough bass or volume It’s nice having a thunderbolt port for later flexibility and connectivity. There’s plenty of space with the 512GB SSD Drive and the optional automatic OneDrive backup is really convenient to make sure you always have your files anywhere you go. The fingerprint reader works great with Windows Hello for signing in. It would be nice to be able to also use it for websites authentication.

I would recommend this to a friend
