I bought this for my first semester of college and so far this laptop has been working without any hindrance. The computer is fast for photoshop and video making. The screen size is big for multitasking and has ports that are necessary! All of the specs are good too! One trade-off is the portability, but they do offer the same specs on a 13 inch computer. I was going to get a general MacBook pro, but it really didn't offer the same speed as this dell laptop, and windows is versatile in a lot of areas of education or work.

I was indecisive between this laptop and the hp spectre gem cut. The best buy tech gave me a comparision between these and the Dell Inspiron has a better spec. I love the 2 in 1 as I can use it as a tablet. It is very fast and lighter than the spectre. The fan did get loud and it did get hot but only when I ran heavy programs such as Autocad and Sketchup. The noise did not bother me much. It runs very smooth! Amazing laptop for a great price!

I really like this computer. It boots up quickly, has plenty of memory, and has a great intel 10th generation processor.
I didn’t give it five stars because of what I had to do to get it to work. I purchased an open-box unit rated in like new/excellent condition. It came with all original packaging and really did look brand new. When I got home later that evening and powered it up, however, the Wi-Fi didn’t work, the sound didn’t work, the touchpad didn’t work, and multiple other issues were present. I would have returned it to Best Buy, but they had closed for the weekend.
After spending over an hour on the phone with Dell tech support, they determined that my computer was missing many of the drivers that are supposed to come preinstalled. The representative said he had never seen anything like it. I had to get on another computer at my home and download the Wi-Fi driver on a flash drive and install it on my computer so I could connect to the Internet. Then we downloaded the multiple missing drivers which solved the problems.
As I said earlier, great machine, but beware of open box items.

Poor quality, and too many problems to recommend

Where to begin...
-A cooling fan that sounds like a two-stroke engine, out of the box
-A warranty that covers replacement, but I'd have to be without the laptop for ten business days (not at all an option considering this is my only computer, and I use it for work)
-Blue screens three to four times per week
-Surprisingly loud coil noise during any screen activity
-An inability to sleep, instead staying running and overheating inside my briefcase
-A pen that lags so much it's unusable
-An eight-core 10th generation i7 processor that is somehow slower than my last 4th gen i7 laptop, despite this one having double the memory
-An HDMI port that locks the laptop up when plugged in while off
-A cheap screen that bleeds backlight all around the edges.
After spending nearly an hour on the phone with Dell's tech support, where they merely asked me to run the built-in BIOS hardware test, I was informed that there were no hardware issues present, but if I wanted my noisy fan replaced, I would have to send the laptop in for service. I explained that the fan, while annoyingly loud, was a minor problem compared to the constant blue-screening that was happening, starting from day one of ownership. I was immediately told that any further support would cost around $300 (I don't remember the exact amount), and if I didn't want to pay it, I was free to end the call. If this is the kind of service I get from Dell, then this is my last Dell purchase.
To sum it up, this laptop appears to be built with cheap versions of nice-sounding parts. I regret basically every part of this purchase except the battery life (which is acceptable, not amazing, but understandable considering it has a 4k screen and i7). I'm past the return date, but I'm going to try to return this lemon. Wish me luck!

Chris,
Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with your new laptop. If you'd like to diagnose the reason behind the Blue Screen Errors you can follow these steps:
1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports". 2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software. 3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly. 4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.
We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page - https://dell.to/2O9v4wg.
If you'd like to see if updating the BIOS helps reduce the fan noise on your computer, you can follow these steps: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

Still an outstanding value. What a difference 4K UHD makes. Instead of immediately going to where I want to go, I sometimes get stuck staring at the high res images "Bing" generates as my desktop background. Next I map out the location of the shot, topography, geography etc. Instead of waiting for the computer to react, as in the old days, I wait for myself to break away, and get back to business. : )

A lot power in my Dell laptop!

I demand a lot from the power of my Dell laptop, I always use many programs working at the same time, I have music or some video or movie or TV program in a corner of the screen while I work.
I run multiple downloads of large files with my wireless internet at 1000 Mgps, I always have spreadsheets open, text editor, presentation editor, Graphic Design such as Autocad, Corel Draw, Xara, Adobe Photoshop or Video Editing and Conversion that are quite big and heavy ... and sometimes I play at the same time with AEO II HD, III or IV.
I have multiple devices connected:
3 x 4k 50 "TV screens
1 FulHD 32 "
3 or 4 flash memories.
A Web Camera and a Video Camera.
My bluray recorder.
4 7-port usb 3.1 hub.
2 external SATA and SSD disk readers.
11 external hard drives.
My 5.2 home theater system via bluetooth or wireless headphones.
Until now he never stops, he always works to the maximum ...
* If you have presented some strange things since day one:
- A sudden flickering of the screen for a couple of minutes when turning on, I think it comes from the graphics card because when opening a video it restores to normal immediately.
-Another is that sometimes, only when I add new devices or disconnect the hubs to which I connect everything, the internet is unexpectedly disconnected and I have to restart, or it stops recognizing the usb hubs ... but once I overcome the settings and restart , go back to battle and work everything perfect without failing again.

Dell Has Some Work To Do Yet

I have now been using this laptop for 2 weeks now and my experience has been, in all honesty pretty good overall. When I first discovered it I was stoked about the form factor of having a built-in stylus magnetic cradle because I am a digital artist. So innovative! More companies need to implement this very creative feature for their Windows Ink 2-in-1's.
Okay, so I have been using this at my workplace for very intensive Adobe graphics and it has for the most part been able to handle everything I have thrown at it, however, I am concerned for long term durability. I had to open the Dell Power Manager app and set the thermal settings to QUIET, because by default it is set to OPTIMIZED. With the default setting the fan was loud and constantly running when I was going between Photoshop and Illustrator. I have yet to run motion graphics programs such as Premiere and After Effects but I can't imagine the fan being able to handle those too well.
With all of that said, if I were Dell, I would not have chosen the Nvidia MX250 as my processor. If you do any kind of research on it, you will will see that most people have much better performance from a 1050(used in Asus Q547FD) or 1060 graphics card. Which is what should have happened. If you want to build a solid performing graphics tablet laptop then you need to equip it with a processor that can handle simple Adobe programs much more efficiently. As I said, it has handled Adobe fairly well, however, it could be way better, at this price point.(saving time, less fan use)
Second, battery size creates a pretty poor battery life. I get only 3-4 hours tops before I begin to plug it back in.
Third, downward facing speakers...Dell, check out Lenovo's newest implementations of it in the hinge where it front firing...which would be perfectly implemented on this one to the left and right of the stylus slot.
Fourth, 720p webcam - bad video calling, no Windows Hello facial recognition
Other than these issues, I think that Dell is on the right track. I look forward to future iterations that have this same creative form factor(stylus holder).

theelfmancometh,
Thanks for your thought out review. If you'd like to see if your computer can operate quieter we'd recommend updating the BIOS on your computer:
An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.
If you'd like some tips to extend the battery life of your computer, you can try these: Change the Power Plan:
1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon. 2. On the options list, click Power Options. 3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results. Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off. d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.
We hope that these tips help your computer run better for you.

I love my decision to make this purchase.
I was helped in store by a rep who basically listened to what I needed for my future device to be able to do and he offered what he thought was best for me considering my price range and wanted features He could have just done the Apple Route which was what I expected but then he offered me something different. By showing me how it was comparable to other price categories, using that pen and the touchscreen were the cherries on top. (Plural)
What I expected to pay was for everything including two years warranty coverage. Etc. The device itself is It’s fast, packed with stuff I needed, top of the line features and at an affordable price WOWamazing.
I work in RE and needed something that could handle mediafiles like tons of high resolution photos and video clips, multiple spreadsheets, big screen, graphics, videos, and storage. In my daily routine I have open at any given time 10-12 apps or platforms for work, creating different content Files, organizing different data files, this thing does not struggle to keep up with me.
The only thing I would improve was the Bluetooth connection, I still had to buy a dongle to pair it with my bluetooth headset for skype international calls.
And it also gets confusing to switch from tablet to computer mode sometimes. But it’s great.
ps, I love that finger print scanner.

Although this laptop is marketed as a gaming machine, I use it for academic writing and creating photo art. For the latter, the screen resolution is perfect. It is fast, even under taxing multi-tasking conditions. My only complaint is that the touchpad and cursor are so fast that I often activate premature or unwanted actions. I have tried to adjust the sensitivity but I haven't been successful.

I've used Dell laptops for many years and find they are consistent in quality and performance. The SSD with the Optane cache makes this the fasted machine I have ever used. Battery life is excellent and it boots in just a few seconds. I did not notice that this model sports a numeric keypad with makes the keyboard area extra wide. After using it a while, I am glad to have the keypad. It makes doing my accounting much easier and faster.

The computer is light weight and easy to handle. Its fast, and gets to websites quickly. I downloaded my Photoshop quickly and easily and it's working great. If there's was one thing I would change, it would be to make it easier to open it up. It's a challenge because there's no place to slip your fingers into to flip it open.

For my very first brand new laptop, it does what I need it to do. I've had for a month and a half and the fan is starting to run more often now. I think it's due to my using it so much. I'm a fulltime allied health student and all my classes and labs are now online so I'm using it constantly. Everyday it's on for hours. There is one issue that sucks and I've tried just about everything! I've searched the internet for solutions, I've done everything I could to fix the problem. My problem is that the headphone jack doesn't work. When headphones are plugged in, the laptop doesn't read it. It's frustrating but too much of a hassle to send the laptop back or pay to have it fixed.

Jewels,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear about your computer's headphone jack and the fan noise. You can try to update the BIOS on your computer to see if it helps lower the fan noise: Update the BIOS:
An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.
If you'd like help with your headphone jack you can try these steps:
1. Open the Control Panel 2. Open the Sound properties by choosing "Audio Devices and Sound Themes" 3. Select the Recording tab. 4. Choose the Microphone Array on the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC device. 5. Click on the Properties button to open the Microphone Array Properties window. 6. From the General tab, use the dropdown menu to choose Don't use this device (disable). 7. Click on the Apply button to apply the changes. 8. Click on the OK button to exit the Microphone Array Properties window. 9. Click on the OK button to exit the Sound properties window. You should now be able to use the microphone on your headset.

I've had this computer about a month now and it is fantastic. The fact that it comes with a pen really puts it over the top. The screen quality is amazing and everything is so sharp. The battery struggles a little with heavy apps like Photoshop, however with just browsing or Office 365 apps, it lasts me a whole day. On standby, it lasts many days and it also charges extremely quickly. I highly recommend.

I was promised this is a great computer. The motherboard blew up after two days. GeekSquad fixed it. It's fast, but no one can hear me on web meetings AND the cursor jumps even though I've changed the settings to slow motion. BestBuy told me there is a problem with Dell's software and that Dell is aware of it yet offering no solution. That's just so wrong. How could Dell be selling us an expensive laptop but then forget about us?! Unfortunately, Dell offers no phone support any more, unlike when it used to be very customer-service oriented. Meanwhile, I am left to deal with this challenge because cursor jumping all the time is a pain in the rear end.
I would NOT buy this product and do NOT recommend it to any one unless Dell calls and offers me a fix.

Ruhi,
Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear that your computer is not operating the way you hoped it would. We'd recommend checking to make sure that your BIOS is up to date in order to try to lessen the fan noise:
An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.
If you'd like your computer to operate cooler for you, we'd recommend the following:
Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue. 2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system. Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage. 3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%. 4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis. 5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance. 6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.
