One week in & pleased

After one week, I'm happy. It is a little large and clunky, with very sharp corners. But it's battery despite being smaller this year gives 4+ hr doing lite work. Happy it came with a single 16gb ram with an open slot for upgrades. I just don't understand Dell's reason for such uncomfortable pointed sharp corners. ?? Why Dell ? The fan has been very quite while light gaming, and off while just normal web browsing. Heat has been no issue so far.

Coming off a 5 year HP. This computer has been everything that was advertised. Display is great I really like the size. No glitches, issues or problems at all after 6 weeks. I play mid level gaming graphics and it fly's through set up and no glitches during the game or any other operations. I have had 4 hrs of game play on the battery. Not bad.
On the downside, but not a reason to avoid buying, It is a bit heavy and the sharp square corners could be improved but that is such a minor detractor from the overall great performance that the system has to offer.
Highly recommended for this price range. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Good Value with Price Match

I ordered this PC in store and the staff price matched a local deal with MicroCenter. When the PC arrived I was a little concerned because I ordered what was supposed to be a new in box unit. The security tape on the box was different than all other Dell stickers I have seen on equipment in stores and unboxing videos. The old security seal has heavy diagonal lines with text regarding if the seal is broken or the package is damaged to check contents before signing receipt. The box I received had a security seal with some thinner diagonal lines in the middle of the tape and no text. I was convinced it was a repackage. I was set to return and get it from another store. I went into the local MicroCenter and a lot of new Dell monitors had this new security tape, some had the old seal but a lot of the newer product had the more generic security seal. Settled my mind at least. I have had instances in the past of stores trying to pass off refurbished goods/returns as new. Best Buy has never done this to me but I'm always a little skeptical when something appears outside the norm.
As for the laptop, it is replacing a Dell Inspiron 15 i5 from about 2010-2011. The HD died awhile ago and it was a pretty cheaply built PC that I didnt want to waste time trying to reclaim it. It was a chore just to crack the case and get the old HDD out so I could salvage what I could off the HDD.
This new Dell represents a pretty good value. It feels like a solidly built machine which means its heavy and thick. It's portable, but it's definitely not a take it with you to do anything laptop. It's a gaming laptop. I played a graphics intensive racing game for a little while after setting it up and it seemed to run fine. I didn't do a long session yet. For a casual gamer that wants some horse power when they do game this is a great little value with the price match of $999.99.
It's not a touch screen which I despies anyways on a PC platform. The image quality is fine but I have seen better displays on laptops.
The only real downside is the implementation between the SSD and physical HDD interface. It could have been designed better to default to the physical drive for data storage. Most users will know to point to D:/ when setting up programs but if you just click when installing it will use your primary drive C:/ the SSD.
Pros:
Good value with price match
Dedicated NVidia 1060 with 6GB
Solidly built
Fast Boot with SSD
Cons:
Loaded with McAffee (I hate this resource sucker - remove it in the control panel)
Screen is average but for $999 it's not a deal breaker
Overall, a good price to performance ratio.

This was given to my wife as a Christmas present, and she's pleased! Good build quality and good performance for the price point. Note that this GPU is the Max-Q variant of the laptop GTX 1060, so you trade better battery life and lower temps for a small performance hit vs the regular laptop GTX 1060. Having said that, this is playing newer games like PUBG with nice looking settings and good performance even on an external 2560x1080 screen. We are happy!

Great Laptop for price

So let me start off by saying that I've been slowly trying to build my first gaming PC for about a year now and have a good bit of it. Only things I don't have is the GPU and ram which are so overpriced right now that I decided that I'm not paying double sometimes triple the price for components. I decided to go the route of buying a new laptop, updating from a 7 year old dell inspiron. This thing is super fast, responsive and runs AAA games with ease. For the price point, I think this is the best deal in a mid-range gaming laptop. I say price point because at the moment you can knock some money off of this laptop by price matching microcenter. They have a sale on this laptop right now for 999.99 so save yourself some money if you're planning on buying this.

I have had this laptop for about a month. I am coming from a 5-year-old HP workstation, so this computer is a joy. I have had no glitches, lockups, or anything bad happen so far. I had read some negative reviews about the screen, but for me, this screen looks great and I can view from different angles, which was not so good on my older laptop. The computer is very quiet and cool except during some games when I can hear the fan kick in, and it will warm up at the top of the keyboard. The keyboard is fine for me, but then I am a 2 to 4 finger typer, no expert typer here...The keyboards separate number keys on the right side are great when working with numbers.

I've never been so pleased with a laptop purchase. It's a fantastic machine. I'm a grad student with of reading, writing, and data analysis by day. And I play a bunch of graphics heavy games by night. This machine can handle it all. the feel of the keyboard and trackpad are great. Red backlit keyboard is beautiful, speakers are solid.
It is a little on the heavier side but that's because it's packing a lot of power.
Highly recommended.

I bought this computer to work and game on. The computer works fine for working it is fast and efficient if thats what you are looking to use this for {that is why i gave this a two instead of a one star}. But i also game a lot and after about 3 months of owning this computer it is unable to play games as it was when i first got it. now i have to use the lowest setting to play and if not the fans are not going to be able to cool it down i, i would drop fps ridiculously and the sound would bug making it impossible to play.
I have contacted support and they have not been helpfull at all they keep avoiding my questions and will not help! i would not reccomend this laptop if u are looking to play on i t

Hi John1R,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry to hear that the fan noise on your laptop has gotten pretty loud. Here are some suggestions that we have to help with this noise: Here are some tips to help with fan noise -
A: Cleaning the Vents 1. Check the vents on the computer to see if they are covered with dust and not allowing heat and air to pass through. 2. Turn off the system. 3. Remove all power sources: Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery, or unplug the desktop power Cord. 4. Use a compressed air can to blow the dust out of the vents. Be sure to hold the can at an upright angle (near 90 degrees), and hold it 15-20 centimeters (6-8 inches) away from the vent.
B: Update the BIOS: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer.
We hope these tips help to lessen the fan noise that you're experiencing.

-Mine shipped with something (loose screws?) rattling around inside the laptop.
-Has a "red/black" keyboard, despite the images clearly showing "white/black" keys.
-Not user serviceable. There are no easy access doors for the RAM or HDD, and you would have to unscrew the entire bottom to do ANY upgrades.
