Owned for 6 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered a "brand new" computer and picked this up in your El Cajon Ca. store in Nov. 2019 It was for my daughter for Christmas and she got ill and couldn't handle the stress of setting something new up until May. I immediately noticed that Dell box was not factory sealed. It had been taped shut as was the inside wrap around the computer. I turned it on and could not get into a browser. After days of failing every thing I tried. I called my computer guy.. He couldn't figure it out, so he called Dell.. After many calls and being on the phone with Dell for 6-8 hrs. over days it comes down to someone previously owned the computer, switched out the hard drive and made it impossible to be used by anyone other than the original owner. It's in S mode and we can't get out of it. Dell said it wasn't them who did this. That leaves Best Buy I am the proud owner of a brand new $300 Best Buy paperweight. I have been a loyal customer there for a long time; buying TV's computers and major appliances. Never again. Not only am I out the $300, but owe the computer guy $200. I do have legal insurance and if forced to resort to that, I will use it. I'd rather settle out of court.

The warning is that this is Windows 10 Home S not the Windows 10 Home that is indicated on the website. For those that are not aware, the S versions require your software to come from the MS Store. This is NOT what was advertised. If you are aware and you have the ability to work around this issue, by all means, go for it. But I was highly disappointed with the issue and even worse by customer support who recommended I bring it in to let Geek Squad attempt to fix it.

We're sorry to hear about the trouble that you've had with your computer so far. Here are the steps to take your computer out of Windows S Mode:
'Windows 10 in S mode is designed for security and performance, exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. Switching out of S mode is one-way. If you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 10 in S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode.
1. On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
2. In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.)
3. On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button. After you see a confirmation message on the page, you'll be able to install apps from outside of the Microsoft Store.
