    Horrific Battery

The battery life is horrific. You'll need to recharge every 2-3 hours (that is if you start at 100%). I actually timed it, I was losing 1% battery life every 1-2 minutes. Also, the energy saving mode (which slows the processor and dims the screen) barely helps save the battery. For $1k, this laptop is an easy and definite 'NO THANK YOU' for me.

      Hi DallasJim,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry that your battery life is not what you had hoped it would be. Here are some tips to try if you have not already done so:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

If you'd like to see if your computer can perform faster we'd recommend running the Windows Performance Troubleshooter:

      1. Close all open windows.
      2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard.
      3. Click Control Panel.
      4. Click System and Security.
      5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems.
      6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.
      7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process.
      8. Restart the PC.

I purchased this laptop couple of weeks back and then I started noticing that it takes more time to recharge the battery then you can use it without power. For this configuration I would have expected at least decent battery back up. My recommendation is avoid this laptop.

If your computer is still overheating we'd recommend the following:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uJ8AdG.

Lastly, if the fan noise on your computer is too loud we'd recommend that you try to update the BIOS on your computer: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

Ok the specs are great and the price was right nabbed it for 699 on sale without office. However the battery life and operation frankly suck . Even powered full the status bar says only 3 hours and in real life maybe 2 with just surfing being done. But most frustrating the battery looses power when the laptop cover is shut. I guess you have to shut the computer down before closing every time to not loose battery time. I have contacted Dell we did a bios update and the tech remotely changed some power settings to no avail. The only reason I havent returned it price . Wihtout the battery issues this would be a super machine. O btw it is uHD but you can not stream from AMAZON in 4k to any computer evidently. another strike .

I bought this laptop in the last week of December 2018. The main reason was its weight, it is very easy to carry. After starting the laptop for the first time, I heard some noise inside the machine. It happened for the first two times, then it stopped. I thought the machine would cause no further problem. But after three months, the battery died without giving any hint. Such a frustrating experience. I am thinking not to buy Dell anymore.

Overall it is a Dell. The screen is clear and crisp and the thing is fast, blazing fast. I really liked the fingerprint sensor in the power button and it works well unless you have anything, I mean anything at all, on your finger. The battery life is great as long as you stay in power saving mode about 6-7 hours continual run time for office based tasks, but take that off and it goes dead in about 45 minutes. At full throttle the thing gets hot and the fans kick in quickly but stay pretty quiet. Overall a good buy for something with this much power. On a note: I had to play with the charging settings in the BIOS right out of the box because it continually said the battery was low. It would not charge up because it was trying to do smart charging, which I think is a bit of a useless feature because it was not charging the battery all the way.

I would recommend this to a friend
