Wish I would have purchased this earlier. Love the size, love the speed. Enough space to handle my files. Touch screen is a nice addition. Wasn't sure I would like the smaller size, but it is perfect.

    Three Year Review: Disappointing Purchase

I've had great experiences with Dell computers with my previous purchase lasting years (that device was even a demo unit for the store I got it from). After less than three years of use (browsing the web, watching videos/TV shows, and using it for school), this computer has only gotten worse as the months go by. The battery has never lasted beyond three or four hours and now, I only get 45 minutes - one hour of use. The fans of the computer always turn on when browsing the internet (I've cleaned my computer and checked task manager). For online meetings, I'm told my background sounds like I'm sitting next to an A/C unit when it is the fans even moderately running. Lastly, the trackpad sometimes doesn't click (have to try numerous times) or randomly clicks another spot. While it is lightweight and dependable (when charged), I expected more from this computer. I've mainly purchased refurbished electronics from numerous stores so it was disappointing to see this was the result of a Certified Refurbished Open-Box product. I take care of my devices, trying trouble-shooting and using Dell Support tutorials for proper maintenance. I will be wary of purchasing Dell in the future.

This Dell for the money is missing styling on outside of case, power buttons should be lit along with volume buttons on the side - it should n be just a Feel Point. Airplane Mode button on keyboard would be nice. Smaller Bezel for screen.

Impressive Laptop: super fast and sleek

After 2 weeks of scavenging the bowels of the internet, local "ma-and-pop" computer stores, and pawn shops, I finally went against my nature and walked into a Best Buy. The employee helping me was 10 times more knowledgeable than all the other "IT Professionals". I finally decided on the 2-in-1 Dell Inspiron: by far the best piece of tech I've seen. It's versatile, light weight, compact, affordable, and its screaming fast! My decision to walk into Best Buy that day literally saved me thousands of dollars since I no longer need anger management: I think Dell found the cure for lag-induced rage. I needed a computer that could keep up with my fast-paced, on-the-go work style. Initially, I wasn't really looking for all the bells and whistles, but the well-thought-out details do make a huge difference: the back-lit keyboard, gorgeous display, touch screen, and super sleek transition from laptop to tablet makes for a smart choice for one-on-one client collaborations. As a tech-savvy buyer, I mainly purchase my products from non-brick and mortars or locally-owned hole-in-the-wall shops, but the Best Buy “Computing Solutions Microsoft Expert” made it fun to shop and learn about the new products. No YouTube review or shiny advertisement could have done that. And the best part about the shopping experience: She really seemed to like her job! I talked to about a dozen other tech guys at other companies who seemed impatient with my questions, insultingly dumbed things down, mansplained and overused jargon, or just seemed bored.

    NIce laptop, with a problem

This is a fairly fast laptop with good graphics. It has a Touch Screen and can be hinged to transform into a large Tablet. It doesn't come with a CD/DVD drive, so you'll have to buy a separate external drive to load programs. My biggest complaint is the terrible Touchpad! The sensitivity is extremely high, even after setting it o the lowest setting allowed. I'm returning it to DELL next week under the Parts Warranty and hope they will honor the need to change out the Touchpad

      EJB1,

We're glad that your new computer is working well for the most part. If you'd like to try to calibrate your touchpad you can try these steps: Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

This laptop exceeded our expectations. It boots fast and all software runs smoothly. I cannot find anything negative to say about this laptop. The touch screen is great and the 180 degree rotation of the screen lets us sit around on the couch using it as a tablet with ease. 512GB hard drive would have been better, but the 256GB is just fine for normal day to day use and photo/music storage.

The design is quite sleek and really like that. Performance is way better than my last one though I'm sure some techy people would find faults I'm more than happy with it. Nice size screen that despite bad reviews I like as certain games and videos are now seeable due to the gamma being a bit higher than it should be yet my photos still print out pretty close to on screen so that's better than my last one too. Loads of storage.

I unfortunately had the worse luck with this laptop. I ordered it online and after using it for two days there was an awful whirring sound coming from the fan and I took it back to Best Buy and they confirmed my issue and they sent it back to the manufacturer and when it came back the issue was still there even though the manufacturer claimed it was “a speaker issue”. I decided to let this go as it was too much trouble for a new laptop.

We bought this laptop for my son to use for school. Well right out of the box it would not charge then on every start up it would ask for some recovery key very annoying ending up exchanging for another thinking maybe we just got a lemon. I am not sure what to think at this point when the new one arrived we noticed the keyboard and the screen are completely different from the first one we had so not sure what is up. So far this new one seen seems to be working well.

I bought this computer end of August, 2018 for my daughter who is a college student. She just called from school and her screen is black. She turns it on but the screen won't come on. She's had different other little things as well. I got this one for her after I had bought a larger screen one for myself a few years ago. Looks like this one wasn't as good (although I had trouble with my sound card from the beginning with mine). We can't afford buying a computer that doesn't last any longer than this. So now I have to see what it will cost to repair but more importantly, see if we can get her school work off of it.

      angeleyez21,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the issues that your daughter has had with her new computer. We'd recommend trying the following steps to help get the computer started again:

      1. If the computer is displaying the Dell logo and does not move past that point, it has probably failed POST.
      2. If the power indicator lights up and it is amber or orange, this is usually an indicator that it has failed POST.
      3. If you see text on a black screen, the computer is currently performing the POST. If the computer stays in that condition and does not move past it, it has probably failed POST.
      4. If the video screen displayed anything at all during the startup process but is now black, this probably indicates that the computer failed POST.
      5. If the computer is beeping or if Caps/Num/Scroll Locks are flashing, note if there is a particular pattern in which it beeps or flashes.
      6. If the computer is not beeping and caps/num/scroll locks are not flashing, unplug all connections and remove all media communication devices (e.g. external monitors); reconnect one at a time and check if the computer functions.
      7. For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. In case you have a Desktop at the Dell logo screen tap the F12 key to enter One Time Boot Menu and use the arrow keys to highlight Diagnostics and press enter.
