Excellent product for our podcasting team. Our after-school tutoring included podcasting into our STEM activities for the children to give a kid's point of view on things that interest them. They are learning how to write, edit, and understand the technical aspects of producing a quality piece of work.

Look and Feel -------------------- The platinum silver color makes it look a premium laptop. It’s undoubtedly beautiful. It’s just so easy to work on a touch enabled laptop. After extensively using phones day in and day out, it comes naturally to touch the screen for inputs. This 2-in-1 touch screen laptop checks that box. Build Quality ------------------ A 360° hinge transforms laptop into four modes – laptop, tent, stand and Tab mode. Transition is pretty smooth and keypad disables by itself for tent, stand and tab modes. The TAB mode is brilliant - just like a phone, it automatically changes orientation based on how we hold the laptop. This is especially useful when we read an e-book or documents and feels awesome when we play games. At around 3.5lb (1.6 kg) this is certainly on the lighter side. With platinum silver color, this looks rich and with less than an inch height this feels quite slim. With minimal bezel, this feels quite compact and overall, it’s quite easy to carry around. Boot Speed ---------------- With only about 15 seconds boot time, this is extremely quick to load the lock screen. Fingerprint sensor is very good and really fast making it extremely convenient to unlock the laptop. Within about 20 seconds the desktop loads from the time the laptop is powered on. Another great feature that I love is, opening the lid automatically powers on the laptop. If the lid is open, fingerprint button does the purpose. This is very practical and well done DELL! Display Quality --------------------- 14 inch Full HD+ display with aspect ratio of 16:10 (1920 x 1200) with max brightness of 250 nits. Generally 250 nits on paper may sound a bit on the lower side, but to use them indoors in a well-lit setting, I find it sufficient. I am using the laptop at about 90% brightness during the day and at about 80% during the night. The Wide Viewing Angle is really good on this and the viewing quality remains the same from any angle. I might have loved to have an anti-glare screen on my laptop, but don’t forget, this is a touch-screen laptop. So it’s a trade-off between touch and anti-glare and I choose touch, as I am using it indoors most of the time. MyDell app offers additional display settings like Comfortview (with blue light filters) and brings improvement to regular display with TV-like features like movie mode etc. This enhanced the display quality and made the colors more vibrant. Webcam ------------- With 1080p resolution, the webcam provides a good quality video during the calls. This also comes with a little cover to close the camera when laptop is not in use. This is particularly useful when I accidentally join a call with video ON when I am not really ready. Battery ----------- 4 cell 54 Wh battery lasts well over 8 hours on single charge, which is I felt is adequate for a laptop. This really depends on the usage but even with multiple software and firmware updates and restarts, and with a bit of games, videos, browsing and documentation use, this lasted around 7 hours to reach 20%. Charging is fast, with 20 to 80% in just an hour. Full charge (80 to 100%) takes another 45 mins. This will help extend the battery life in long term. Speakers ------------- This is where I felt the laptop could have done better. By no means is this laptop loud. Although there are audio settings under “MyDell” that allows tweaking the EQ Profile, and with some adjustments, the sound has got slightly better and louder. But still, I would like a louder speaker output. Even with a top mounted speaker, this delivers sound like a bottom or side mounted laptop speakers. However, when this laptop is used with a headset, this is OUTSTANDING. The laptop can deliver Dolby Atmos spatial audio with right headset. Toggling multiple apps -------------------------------- With 16GB LPDDR5 Memory, 13th Gen Intel i7-1355U processor, there is absolutely no lag in launching or switching between all the apps that I am using. It’s extremely fast, be it loading the apps or switching between them. Games ----------- This is not meant to be a high end gaming laptop and this is not made for this purpose. However, thanks to Intel iRISx internal graphic card, this supports many mid level games. For someone like me, who play mid level games occasionally, this has proved more than sufficient. I was able to play games like F1 2020 with no difficulties which requires moderate graphics requirement. Keyboard and Trackpad --------------------------------- This is another area where this laptop excels. The keypad feels soft, rich and premium, almost no sound. The backlit keyboard is really handy when used in dark. The trackpad is very responsive and I could use it with “low” sensitivity to prevent accidental taps. WiFi -------- WiFi 6E, the new technology offers superior connectivity and coincidentally it so happened that the other laptop I was using side-by-side dropped its wifi connectivity, this remained connected. There were no drops and seems reliable. Is capable of sharing WiFi with mobile hotspot feature. Ports --------- This laptop is a bit of a minimalist in terms of Ports. It is equipped with all the necessary ports but absolutely no extras. However, with two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports, when used with a docking station (not included) the ports can be transformed to any numbers we like. Here are the ports that come as a built-in with the laptop - 1 HDMI 1.4 port (Please note, the maximum resolution supported over HDMI is 1920x1080 @60HZ. There is no 4K output) - 2 Thunderbolt 4.0 ports (This can be used for docking stations and for power delivery) - 1 USB 3.2 Type-A port (this is where I felt we could have had more than just 1). - 1 3.5mm Audio jack (Obviously laptop can be connected via Bluetooth audio devices for videos and calls) - 1 SD Card reader Hardware -------------- This being the core of the laptop, I am so glad this laptop has checked all the boxes in this front. - 16GB LPDDR5 RAM offers more than necessary speed to tackle all day to day needs including video editing. - 13th Generation Intel Core i7 Processor keeps the laptop fast and efficient - 1 TB and the highlight is its all Solid State Drive (SSD). This is more than adequate storage and not having a HDD is a blessing. No more irritating HDD rotating sounds and no loading any files/programs/apps is so quick. This is perfect. OS: This comes with Windows 11 Home edition pre-installed. Additionally, 1 month free trial of Office 365 and McAfee is included. PS: Update your laptop with latest windows and firmware updates and dont mind the slight flickering when it installs the display firmware. Summary ------------- Does a perfect laptop ever exist? With so many options in the market with varying features, one scores over the other in some aspects. It’s almost impossible to score a 10/10 in all the aspects of a laptop. So the best idea would be to look for a laptop that suffices most needs. And this is undoubtedly one such laptop. With extremely powerful configurations, which are up-to-date, this should offer power and longevity. Only thing I could have asked for more is a better speaker, but since I use headphones most of the times, it not a big deal. For best sound experience, headphones are always recommended. Overall I am very happy with this laptop and I have no hesitation to recommend this.

    Powerful little feature packed machine

Body: The machine has a brushed aluminum exterior, large multi-gesture trackpad, grey key backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader integrated in the power button, robust speakers on each side of the keyboard, and hinges that allow use in laptop, tent, or tablet mode. The 14-inch form factor is larger than my work and personal 14-inch non-touchscreen laptops. However, the machine is still small enough to fit inside my backpack designed for smaller laptops under 15-inches. Weight is also good for normal laptop use but a little heavy for tablet mode. I can’t see myself comfortably holding this for long periods in one hand. Screen: The WUXGA display has a high gloss finish and 250 nit brightness. The bezel of the physical screen is practically non-existent but the display panel itself has a more noticeable black border around the edges with the thick bottom border. The gloss screen has high reflectiveness which can be more challenging than matte screens in bright lighting like outdoor sunlight. There is no native HDR capability but it can stream HDR video. As you can see from the included side by side photo, the panel of this newer Dell skews slightly warmer than my older Dell. I don’t use the touchscreen functionality. I personally just have no use for it on a laptop with a built in keyboard and trackpad. Also, as I stated above, the weight is a little on the hefty side for tablet use. Software: Other than the typical MS bloat that comes on all new Windows Home PCs, the only other preinstalled apps are McAfee Security, McAfee Web Advisor, and Smartbyte Drivers and Services. McAfee is bloatware for me because I currently use another security suite have no need or desire to use McAfee. Smartbyte is a network performance app that I also do not want or need, so I uninstalled it as well. The usual Dell apps are also present. This PC has My Dell and Dell Update. Both apps are useful for detecting and troubleshooting problems, downloading software updates, and accessing important system information. The Dell apps worked fine on first run but gave me issues afterward and would not launch again until after I completed three successive BIOS updates (2 through Dell’s software and one through the OS update). Everything worked properly without any issues afterward. I’m used to new computers requiring BIOS updates out the box but three seemed a little odd. Thankfully it at least cleared up the issues with the apps. Ports: External ports consists of two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, one 3.2 USB-A port, an SD card reader, HDMI, and 3.5mm audio. The sole USB-A port is a bit skimpy but I solved the lack of additional A style ports with an inexpensive USB-C hub, which provided the desired additional USB A ports as well as other additional ports. Performance: This is a snappy little machine. The 1TB drive provides generous storage space. The 13th gen i7 processor and 16gb of DDR5 RAM power through desktop productivity apps and can easily handle online video meetings, streaming video, photo editing, and light video editing. It won’t handle cutting edge AAA title games that require discrete graphics, but it can handle less demanding games that work well with integrated graphics. I typically multi-task with numerous apps running at once along with a dozen or more open browser tabs as well. This machine handles it all with ease. The integrated HD web camera works well with online meeting apps and has a privacy shutter to help ensure accidentally enabling the camera doesn’t result in any embarrassing situations. Both USB-C ports can be used with the 65W power adapter. One port is powered for charging attached peripherals. The trackpad is large, responsive, and supports multi-gestures. The keyboard keys have a good feel although the backlighting is a bit dim at the brightest setting. Wireless and Bluetooth performance are both stable and reliable. Wireless speed is very good on my gigabit connection. There is no built-in ethernet port, but my USB-C ethernet adapter works well with the PC when needed. Conclusion: This is a deceptively powerful machine. The 14” form factor looks small but packs quite a punch underneath the hood. Aside from the most demanding games and video editing, this can easily handle all of my usual computing needs. It has a moderate sized USB-C power brick and the laptop typically runs cool under most of my usage scenarios. One thing I disabled immediately was the power on when the lid is opened feature. I’m personally not a fan although I’m sure others may find it useful. My only complaints are all OS related issues that aren’t limited to this machine, so I won’t get into it here. But no complaints with the laptop itself.

As the name suggests, it is a 2-in-1 touch laptop/tablet that looks sleep and beautiful and performs very well (thanks to excellent hardware specs - 13th Gen Intel i7 processor, 16 GB DDR5 RAM and 1 TB SSD). It is quite light (~3.5 lb) and easy to carry around. This laptop can be used in 4 modes (thanks to 360 degree hinge) - laptop, tablet, stand and tent. This makes it a useful device for any kind of use. For example, I use the laptop mode when I am getting work done, tablet when I am browsing and tent or stand when I am watching movies/shows. It has 14" Full HD+ display with 16:10 aspect ratio and maximum brightness of 250 nits. I like the vibrant colors. The MyDell app also offers ComfortView (reduces blue light) and few other features like movie mode etc. It has a 1080p webcam that is great for video calls. The cam has a little cover to close the camera if you don't want to use it. The battery life is decent. I am usually able to get through a whole work day (6-7 hours) on a single charge. It also has fast charging which allows it to go from 20% to 80% in an hour. It takes around 2 hours to reach 100% charge. Speakers are ok. It supports WiFi 6e and bluetooth and has following ports: 1 HDMI, 2 Thunderbolt, 1 USB 3.2, 1 3.5mm Audio Jack and 1 SD Card reader The power button has a fingerprint reader which makes logging in easy. Overall, I am very satisfied with this laptop. I think it is priced well as the similar specs and features on other laptops cost much more. And then there is the excellent Dell customer service and support (thankfully I haven't had the need to contact them) for you peace of mind.
