More versatile than a MacBook for college

My daughter is going to VA Tech as a Business Major, and I went back and forth between getting a MacBook or a Windows laptop. The MacBook is a superior laptop hands down when it comes to performance, screen quality, and battery life, but it comes up short when it comes to versatility, compared to this Dell. I would have to buy a MacBook and iPad Pro to do what this Dell can do in one package. The Dell Inspiron allows you to write notes using your finger or with a stylus while using MS OneNote, Office Suite, Adobe CC, etc., since the screen can be folded into a portable tablet. Being that MacBooks can't run some of the Business software in her program (MS Visio, MS Project, etc.) without having to get additional programs like Parrells or use BootCamp on an Intel MacBook (no longer unsupported by Apple), it made more sense to get a Dell for half the Price with the same specs that can run everything. Plus, she can FaceTime with friends on this Dell laptop since the laptop can receive a link provided by a person using an Apple device, so she can participate in the FaceTime calls. The big plus of this laptop is you can sync your iPhone to your Dell using Windows 11 which will provides the convenience to make and receive calls and send/receive text messages right from your laptop without needing an extra data plan - "Dude your getting a Dell". Being real - the reason I gave Dell only gets 3 stars is the fact that you can not upgrade the 16 GB RAM since it's soldered into the motherboard which I didn't know until after the purchase, the HDMI port or screen doesn't support 4K, the battery will not last over 6 hours watching videos while doing work on a flight, the camera is too basic (still 1080p though) and can't run Windows Hello facial recognition, and I can hear the fan at times which was not noticeable on my wife's older Surface Pro 7 when running the same tasks despite only having 8 GB of ram. Since I bought this on my credit card I get an extra year of warranty, so I didn't to get the store warranty for $200+, which drove down the price compared to the MacBook. For my needs, it didn't make sense to spend double the cost for eye candy and limited versatility in a laptop, since her major doesn't require a laptop with the horsepower that the MacBook can provide, and she will probeable never use.

Having used the Dell Inspiron 14.0" 2-in-1 Touch Laptop with the 13th Gen Intel Core i7 for a year, I’m pleased to share that it has been a reliable and versatile machine. Pros: Performance: The 13th Gen Intel Core i7 continues to deliver excellent performance. From handling multiple applications simultaneously to running more demanding software, it remains fast and responsive even after a year of use. 2-in-1 Functionality: The convertible design has been incredibly useful. The ability to switch between laptop and tablet modes is perfect for presentations, note-taking, and media consumption. The touchscreen is responsive and accurate, adding a lot of flexibility to how I use the device. Build Quality: The build quality has stood the test of time. The hinge mechanism remains smooth, and the laptop feels robust despite frequent use. The materials have not shown significant wear. Display: The 14.0" touchscreen display still impresses with vibrant colors and sharpness. It’s been great for both work and entertainment, and the touch functionality remains smooth and intuitive. Battery Life: Battery performance has been consistent, typically lasting a full day with moderate use. This has been very convenient for on-the-go work. Cons: Cooling: As with many laptops, it can get warm during intensive tasks, and the fan can be somewhat loud. While this hasn’t been a major issue, it’s worth noting if you’re in a quiet environment. Port Selection: The port selection is adequate but could be improved. I occasionally miss having extra USB ports and an SD card slot, which would add extra convenience.

The Dell Inspiron laptop offers solid performance and reliability at an affordable price point. Its sleek design and decent battery life make it a good choice for everyday tasks like browsing, streaming, and productivity. However, it might not be the best option for intensive gaming or professional-grade video editing due to its mid-range specs. Overall, it's a reliable option for casual users or students on a budget.

Now, I was very skeptical when I purchased this laptop. It was open box so I was hoping it had no issues what so over but it was just a simple return. The PC was in really good condition. SO far, it beats my macbook air 2017, a lot faster, smarter and an amazingly long battery life. I def like this laptop because its small and cute but powerful! I wish they built a hardshell case for these or had other color options. I love this dell

I needed a laptop pc quickly for class. It was the last 1TB storage pc left in my budget ($800). At this stage in my life the laptop was an investment. It starts quickly. Runs smoothly. I’m disappointed the screen resolution is 1080p. In this era, a 4k optical option would have taken this model over the top. I rarely use the tablet feature. But I do use touch screen often in laptop mode. Turn the laptop off after every use. Once it overheated because I left it on overnight. It came back on after putting it near a fan.

Screen is really nice, responsive to touch snd the hinge is not flimsy like the majority of Pc’s. It’s far more solid feeling that the Surface and with way more memory and Speed for slightly less money 16 Gigs on a Surface with a tiny screen is at least $400 more and w/o Dell’s reputation for quality and compatibility with third party devices and ports etc. all around a superior machine for a great price. It feels solid, backlit keyboard is nice to type on and the screen is bright and clear. 14.1” is the perfect size for most anything and still portable and lightweight without being flimsy and cheap looking. I will say for the amount of memory and ram it has and the i7 processor i thought it would be faster, but windows is likely to blame for that bc every pc i use at work or at home is slow as molasses compared to a mac or Chromebook. Its just how they are. Ultimately I recommend this device for a student or business owner (realtor) on the go or anyone that wants more memory than they need and grts it on sale like i did on cyber Monday for $699 only for a few hours was the sale so I snatched it ip glad I did!

I was lucky enough to find this on sale, and I couldn't be happier, it has exceeded my expectations. I haven't noticed any slow down, no matter how many tabs I have open, which makes multitasking a breeze, plus it connects easily with my extra monitors. Its not too heavy and the screen size is just right, making it super convenient for travel.
