So, I had a tough time choosing between the Lenovo, Asus and Dell. All comparable models. I went with the Dell because it was slightly cheaper than the ASUS and seemed better constructed than the Lenovo. Initially, I was pleased with the Dell display and construction. Also, I liked the fingerprint access. I did notice from the start that the screen had some bleed of colors when scrolling. The problems started when I was using a program for work that activates a new window depending on what is selected within the window. Well, 20% of the time the screen would randomly jump from window to window to window without me inputting anything. This was concerning since I have had other computers that handle multiple windows from this program flawlessly. Since I liked the computer to that point I figured I would contact Dell customer support. They walked me through a few diagnostics and determined that the hardware was fine and that it must be a software issue in which case there is a charge to troubleshoot that. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I just bought the computer and it wasn't working right but now I had to pay to troubleshoot???? UM NO! Long story short I took it back to Best Buy and ended up going with the ASUS Zenbook. Which, I am very happy with after one day. That review is coming. So, this computer's problem could have been a faulty Windows Operating System or something else. I will never know, but the fact that Dell didn't stand by their product entirely out the box made me switch to another computer company all together. Very disappointed with such a big name brand.

I’ve now had this new laptop for 6 months. I like all the functions. Battery life has been great. The resolution is the best I’ve had on any laptop. I like the FULLER screen and minor frame. Was a little hesitant about it being more fragile as I tend to move my laptop with me a lot. It’s been nice and the weight is sturdy. I don’t really use the touchscreen but I may use it more as I’m adjusting. Pros Comes with a stylus Resolution A+ Dimensions are perfect Cons Doesn’t have a number pad for a 15.6”, but for $19.99 I grabbed a USB one elsewhere which works good. —— -I find it boots up quickly -Easy to navigate -I went with the 16g/512gb SSD It works for me. I use it primarily for word, excel, photos and some browsing. Not a gamer. -I spent an extra $30 and grabbed a travel case for added protection when traveling. It’s a good laptop for a student or someone that runs a small at home business or just needs to connect to social media and email. DELL is also a reliable brand I trust

I'm really happy with the purchase, it's a really good notebook, excellent performance, and looks (if you're into that kind of things). PROS: - Performance, I'm a software developer and it's more than enough for the job. - 4K screen: I never owned one and I can see why some people love it so much. I haven't had any issues at all like some people say with the resolution, even with transitions to tablet mode an back everything works like a charm. - Precision Trackpad which allows gestures and it's good, maybe the best I've had in a PC. -Fingerprint sensor is fast and nice to have a sensor that you don't need to swipe, which makes it much more slow. - Brings a pen which I don't need really, but it's great to mess around with it at the very least. CONS: -The biggest drawback I'd say it has, is the weight... I think it's kind of heavy for the size it has, but this is due to the metal frame I presume, which while making it heavy, it also gives it the sturdiness some laptops lack of. -The battery might be an issue for some people that are on the go, it might last about 5 hours so keep that in mind. To sum up, I'd totally recommend this to friends, specially if you're not that business man that is constantly travelling around the country/world. PS: I got a really great deal with the open box certified, 300 dollars discount at the time, and the laptop is in incredible condition, not to mention everything works perfectly.

Great laptop overall. 4K display allows you to open four windows at the same time making it perfect for students. Battery life is good, even though battery seems to randomly change charge level (I'm assuming it still trying to figure out actual battery level). It will show I have 1.5 hours left, but as I use it, it goes up to 7+ hours left. I have not run out of battery using it for school without charging in class. USB-C port allows charging, but it gives you a warning if it's less than 65 Watt. I have a 60 Watt charger and it charges it fast regardless of the warning. The bad: Computer froze during "Dell update" software, I'm hoping this is not a regular thing I can expect from Dell. I had to hard restart it and had to re-start the update, it appears to be running fine now. The bios update also failed using the auto update software that came with the computer, I had to download the bios update from the website. The wifi appears to have a much shorter range than my year old Acer Spin 5. If I'm in the same room as the router, it's fine, but the next room over it is slow and disconnected at least once. My Acer would connect all the way to my driveway since I do have an hi-end router. I may have to switch out the wifi card.

I recommend you do not buy this unless you REALLY need 4K, as 4K takes more battery power and many applications do not display properly, and there are no display settings in Windows 10 that fix all of the issues with all the applications, The display issue is with most 4K displays and not just this laptop, Even though it is pre-loaded with Windows 10 Home edition, the SSD is formatted using Bitlocker encryption by Dell at the factory, and this may affect some disk utilities and has to be considered with some disk backup and management utilities. Keep a record of the Bitlocker key in case you have to restore or reinstall. It has been getting more stable as Dell and MSFT have updated device drivers and device firmware. If you decide that you can deal with the issues with 4K mentioned above, I recommend that you IMMEDIATELY apply all the latest MSFT AND Dell updates or I expect you to have instabilities, BSODs etc. Hope that helps...

Purchased the 1st one and immediately had issues during set up- blue screen stated video issue. Was glitchy the entire time. Finally set up and then noticed one of the 2 USB ports not working. Tried all the updates, Called Dell Support, India logged in rep went thru another group of installs etc , then the other USB drive also non working.. I use the computer for work so decided to try to exchange it as they had 1 other in stock and really nothing else that compared to the specs needed. This 2nd one is completely different than the first! It is just beautiful. All set up went flawless and fast and have had no USB issues or any issue. I am on the Holiday warranty period so have until Mid Jan if there is a need to return. I sure hope not and so far, so good, The picture is great, a fast performance I love it so far! Suggestion- do not get this in an open box- it may be the one I took back...

I wouldn't pay the price point they are pitching for this machine. picked it up for 830 open box. I'll just get to the point. The Bad - Doesn't always switch over to tablet mode on its own. I have to swivel the screen closed and then open it again. Part of the black bezel on the screen can be pushed in with my finger. Bottom Right Corner. Feels cheap in that aspect. possibly a design flaw or its just the one I have. Overall I am satisfied that it can run most games and demanding games like Rust and Ark on lower settings. it could not however run Blur on max setting. I was hoping since it is an older game. I would love to see how it handles Crysys. Business wise its Great. Packs a big punch and for the hardware inside its a decent weight. Handles heat well. The computer does get hot but keep in mind that max temperature the CPU can get to is 200 Degrees Fahrenheit. I can't say this is a con. I love the fact that I can depend on dells warranty if it doesn't hold up to the defined specs. Bottom Line, pick one up if it's on sale not full price.

I own a Dell 13", 15" and 17" 1080p and wanted a 4k laptop. When it went on sale I snatched one up. Setting up was flawless. Honestly I can't really discern much between a 4k and 1080p resolution. This laptop is set up in RAID and had to convert to AHCI which runs a little faster. One negative is that it doesn't have a volume rocker on the side which is useful in tablet mode. It also doesn't take an PCIe SSD as it takes an NVME m.2 SSD drive and no space for a 2.5" drive either. One memory slot is occupied with 16gb and can take up another 16gb for a total of 32gb like my other Dell laptops. So far so good. The volume is good and loud and I like the nVidia graphics option. Fit and finish is excellent. Upgrading the SSD and memory is simple. Battery life is average. I usually have it on battery saver when on battery and it will last for awhile. You can tone down the resolution to 1080p to save power. Overall I like this laptop.

As a student, it is absolutely necessary to be able to find a good deal as well as quality in a product. This Dell has the (semi) good deal in comparison to other computers like it, but the quality has fallen WAYYYY short. I’ve had this computer for about 5 months now and I’ve had multiple issues with it not starting up, having a very poor WiFi connection, and running slow. Most recently I plugged in the charger in a spot I’ve charged the computer before and actual SMOKE came from my computer. So this computer that I depend on every day with a very important and expensive program that I use for school needs to be shipped off for repairs while it’s still brand new. Not to mention that it’s impossible to communicate with the people in technically support Bc they all are foreign and reading from a script. While this computer is beautiful and has done some good, i would not choose it if i could go back and do it again. Sometimes the cheaper option isn’t always the best option.

      Charlyne,

Thanks for your review and we're very sorry to hear about the interaction that you've had with your computer so far. Once you receive your computer back if you have trouble starting it you can follow these steps:

      1. If the computer is displaying the Dell logo and does not move past that point, it has probably failed POST.
      2. If the power indicator lights up and it is amber or orange, this is usually an indicator that it has failed POST.
      3. If you see text on a black screen, the computer is currently performing the POST. If the computer stays in that condition and does not move past it, it has probably failed POST.
      4. If the video screen displayed anything at all during the startup process but is now black, this probably indicates that the computer failed POST.
      5. If the computer is beeping or if Caps/Num/Scroll Locks are flashing, note if there is a particular pattern in which it beeps or flashes.
      6. If the computer is not beeping and caps/num/scroll locks are not flashing, unplug all connections and remove all media communication devices (e.g. external monitors); reconnect one at a time and check if the computer functions.
      7. For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. In case you have a Desktop at the Dell logo screen tap the F12 key to enter One Time Boot Menu and use the arrow keys to highlight Diagnostics and press enter.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uj1Sby.

If you are still experiencing WIFI issues you can try these steps:

      1. Download and install the latest Wireless Card driver. (https://dell.to/2th3Tpe) After updating the driver, re-establish the connection with the Wireless Access Point and check the wireless performance.
      2. If the issue persists, proceed to step 3.
      3. Power-cycle the local network. Shut down the Dell system, the Wireless Access Point/Router and the Modem. Wait a minimum of 60 seconds before powering up the components in the following order:
      4. Power ON the Modem, and wait for it to boot fully.
      5. Power ON the Wireless Access Point/Router, and wait for it to boot fully.
      6. Power ON the Dell system.
      7. Open Network and Sharing Center
      8. In the left side navigation pane, click on Change Adapter Settings
      9. Right click on the wireless connection icon and select Properties followed by the Configure button
      10. Under Wireless Options, select the Wireless N mode
      11. For Windows 8 or later systems click the Advanced tab and look for 802.11n Mode on the right you will be given the option to Enable or Disable. If the mode is not visible you may need to update your drivers and firmware.
      12. From the drop-down menu, choose Disable followed by Ok
      13. This should restore the wireless download and upload speed. Internet speed can be tested at http://speedtest.net.

We hope that your computer will perform better for you once we get it back.

      Best,

I've been searching for a lightweight laptop for a while that packed a bit of a punch. While this laptop may be heavy to some users, I had no problem bringing it with me to class. As a college student I need something reliable that is fast. The NvME SSD paired with the i7 CPU work very well with each other. After re-configuring Windows 10 to free up some resources, the laptop was extremely fast and handled everything I threw at it. 4K video watching, light 3D modelling, Photoshop, and basic productivity work. I would like to praise Dell for releasing such a well built machine, especially with the Dell Cinema display, the screen is just absolutely gorgeous. Would definitely recommend the 7000 series to my friends.

The computer is fine except the lighted keyboard comes on when you first enter your Microsoft Password and then never again. The problem occurred when transferring the programs and data to my new laptop. Geek Squad made sure I had backed up my data and I had. They then proceeded to transfer the programs and data to the new laptop. Big problem, they transferred most of the messages in OUTLOOK but did not transfer the address book. They also failed to transfer my "Sent" file of messages. And, of course, as soon as I picked up the computers, they deleted all my data on their server. So, I am stuck having to recreate about 1,500 e-mail contacts. I have been a customer of Geek Squad support ever since they came out with the offering. If I remember correctly, I am on the third generation of these offerings and have never had a problem up until now.

This is a nearly perfect laptop. It has a good dedicated graphics card, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and an amazing 4k display. However, the battery life is less than stellar. I'm averaging 3 hours of use. Your usage may vary depending on how you use it. It also bothers me that Dell installed Windows in such a sloppy manner. The boot partition has a Windows.old folder on it. That means Dell installed an older version of Windows and then upgraded it. It's a new computer. Just install a clean copy of Windows, install the appropriate drivers, and install the standard bloat-ware. After that, create an image of this clean install for every other machine and you are off to the races. It just shows a lack of attention to detail on Dell's part.

The positivs -> screen size, memory, SSD size, performance are great. A couple of issues though. Dell, like all other pc manufactures, has limited the number of USB ports to just 2 so in order to connect more than a mouse and a backup drive the purchase of a USB Hub of some sort is needed and there is not really enough room on my portable lap desk for one of those. Also the touch pad is typical of those on most PC's in that it just doesn't work nearly as well as those on an Apple MAC. I have a MAC and its touch pad is sooo much better. That's why there is a need for more built in USB ports. My wife has the same Dell model but it is about 8 months older and it has sufficient USB ports. I should have checked for those of the new PC.

This laptop came with a lot of nice features; however, it did not work as advertised. The internet would lag and freeze on me. It even erased work reports right when I'd click on save. At first I thought it was the internet at my house that was causing all these issues until I used an old laptop. That's when I knew it was the laptop and not our internet. I took it to the Geek Squad, which they assured it was acting so slow bc it needed to be updated. Well, as they tried to update it and check it the laptop froze up on them as well and I had to return it. Very disappointing that such a high tech computer like this one had these problems.

While it does have great specs for the money the laptop feels "slow". Even when plugged in and at full performance selection it just felt like there was a delay in everything I did. Also had problems with not being able to turn the laptop on after it went to sleep. Had to keep long pressing power btn to get it to start back up. I also found that the touch pad was very hard to use when tapping on links, buttons, etc. I kept needing to re tap on things. I should have tried it in store first... The 4K display looks great but it does use a lot of battery and I found that I don't need 4K

I do graphic design for personal and professional purposes and was really happy with the 2-1 feature and the pen tool! Very poor build quality. Laptop repeatedly freezes. And to make matters worse, this laptop now goes to sleep and you cannot wake it up. When you attempt to awake the laptop from sleep, the screen is black and you can hear a very distinct humming. The laptop doesn't power down and over time, the battery dies which then allows me to recharge the battery and get a few more cycles out of it prior to the laptop going back into failure mode. Wish I had kept the original box so I could return it. I have the receipt but believe you need the original packaging for a full refund.

      balancedsolutions,

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry that your computer is not performing the way you had hoped it would. We'd recommend running the Windows Performance Troubleshooter to see if there are ways to speed up your computer:

      1. Close all open windows.
      2. Press the Windows logo key + X key on the keyboard.
      3. Click Control Panel.
      4. Click System and Security.
      5. Under Security and Maintenance, select Troubleshoot common problems.
      6. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance tasks.
      7. Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts to complete the process.
      8. Restart the PC.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tSulGV.

If your computer continues to freeze on you we'd recommend these steps:

      1. Run a Computer Diagnostic. To determine if your computer is experiencing a hardware problem, run the Dell Preboot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics. For information on how to run Diagnostics, and to determine the issue, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2iaiujA.
      2. Check Safe Mode for Symptoms. To boot into safe mode, please follow the instructions below:
      a) Start the computer.
      b) Tap 'F8' on the keyboard immediately and every one second until the Dell logo screen disappears. From there you will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen. (If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.)
      c) Select Safe mode with Networking and press Enter.
      d) Log on as the administrator or as a user with administrative access.
      e) Open applications and test the computer in safe mode. If the symptoms exist in safe mode, please continue the troubleshooting steps in this article. If the symptoms do not exist in safe mode, the issue is likely related to a driver or software and you may wish to complete step 3 to see if you are able to resolve the lockups or freezing.
      3. Check for Malware. Malware (Virus, Spyware, etc.) can definitely cause a Windows system to lock up or appear to hang. To check for malware on your system and to ensure that your computer is up to date on security software, visit Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2wWP1zI.

Second is the overheating sometimes after being turning the laptop on from sleep. Last is the battery life because the display also. Overall it's a very wonderful Laptop to buy for it's high specs that can last at least for the next 5-6 years.

This laptop is fantastic. As a graphic designer, I was going to purchase an iPad and Apple Pencil for sketching to accompany my desktop PC. However, those would cost around the same price as this extremely speedy laptop. I actually picked it up to replace an older Macbook Pro that was going on me, and am very happy with it. The included Dell Active Pen works great on the laptop's screen in both regular and tablet modes. The SSD and 16gbs of RAM make this laptop extremely fast to start and get right into the action.
