Good Laptop with Slow Hard Drive

This laptop is a nice general purpose laptop. Your aren't going to break any speed records, but you should be happy if you don't plan to tax the hard drive too much. I was very impressed with the Cortana guided setup. It was easy and for the first time I set up Windows Hello, the face recognition login, which is great! There is a very minimal set of software installed. My only complaint is the Dropbox promotion that kept popping up after login, I finally just uninstalled that today. The hard drive feels pretty slow for someone who has been using solid state drives for the past 2 years. I would have liked to see a Hybrid drive on this systems to help with the boot times, while keeping the capacity. It takes at least 2 minutes for the computer to boot, log in and for the hard drive to stop thrashing. I am used to sub-30 second boot times on my solid state drives. Under normal load the laptop performs fine, but if you are trying to perform an action while the hard drive is in use, you'll be waiting a while. I have had two other 2-in-1's and I found that I didn't use tablet mode or presentation mode that much. I find the same thing with this laptop. That being said, tablet mode is nice. The keyboard is disabled and when you switch to tablet mode or presentation mode, it will switch to the Windows 10 tablet mode. This laptop is a little large to be used as a tablet though and I don't expect many people to use it that way. The touchpad is accurate. They keyboard travel and response are really good. I like how the volume, playback, brightness, etc. keys are enabled by default rather than the function keys (F5). I just need to remember to hit Fn F5 to refresh a web page. The back light on the keyboard works well. The white light on black keys is a better contrast that my other laptop that is white on silver keys. Watching video is very pleasant. The colors are crisp. The speakers are not very loud though, but I usually watch with headphones on anyway. Overall this is a good laptop. As someone that is used to solid state hard drives, I feel that this hard drive is slow, even for a spinning disk. If it wasn't for the slow hard drive, I would give this laptop 5 stars.

This laptop is not as advertised. I have constantly had issues with it since receiving but currently dealing with my mother in law who was diagnosed with Alzheimers and the reason i bought the laptop in the 1st place - to keep up on medicines and clinical trials - it has proved worthless and I have not taken the time to contact as I have bigger issues to deal with. However i am tired of getting taken advantage of with inferior products that do not live up to what is advertised and what was paid for. It is extremely slow - even though I have the fastest internet. i have added nothing to it - no photos or stored anything of particular length that would effect the performance. Do Not buy!!

Has up-to-date features but others need updating

SUMMARY: The Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 15.6" (model 7573) laptop is remarkably average compared to similarly priced laptops, with some features up-to-date and some features in desperate need of an update. This laptop keeps on top of recent technological trends with the latest generation i5 processor, 2-in-1 laptop to tablet conversion, a USB-C port, and a USB 3.1 port with the ability to charge devices from the laptop's battery. However, an anemic battery life, an exclusively HDD hard drive, poor quality speakers, and a relatively heavy weight (5 lbs) threaten to accelerate the Inspiron’s descent into obsoleteness. If you're looking for a 2-in-1 computer with a lot of storage, and you don't mind a slow start-up or staying within arms-reach of an outlet, this could be the laptop for you. It is perfect for watching videos around the house, or as a family's general shared computer. HARDWARE: The Dell Inspiron 2-in-1, upon first glance, looks like most other unremarkable laptops coming out today. A brushed aluminum shell gives it a rather cheap feel for a relatively expensive computer, and can make the laptop pretty hot after intensive use. The screen, however, gives it a much more expensive feel, with a narrow bezel and crisp display. In tablet mode the laptop, while extremely heavy, works well and feels good. It folds completely in half, unlike some of the earlier attempts at a 2-in-1 laptop. The trackpad and backlit keyboard come with few issues. Both have a sleek design, great responsiveness, and overall easy use. In general, the outside of the laptop is fine; not exactly innovative, but nothing to complain about. The guts of the computer are pretty self-explanatory. The two things I have the biggest issues with are the hard drive and the battery. You get a 2TB HDD, which offers more storage at the expensive of speed and reliability. In my own opinion, this where Dell should have delivered more for the price of this laptop. I personally would prefer speed and reliability, since it's so easy to supplement a hard-drive's size with external storage. The battery was also a terrible design flaw. It delivers at most 5 hours of power for average use. Considering the laptop is heavy and has a feature that allows you to charge USB devices with just the laptop's battery, having an underwhelming battery is almost unforgivable. Where this laptop is a current front runner is the inclusion of the Intel i5 gen 8 processor. However, it is clear that the premium price of this computer is almost entirely based around this processor, which will be surpassed in a matter of months when the next new processor is released. When that inevitably happens, this laptop will have almost nothing memorable to set it apart from a sea of other similarly priced touch screen laptops. Other Features: Aside from the main components, the laptop does offer some shiny new features to make it hip and compatible. These include active pen support, a webcam that can be used for facial recognition, a USB-C port, several USB 3.1 ports, an HDMI port, a headphone jack, an SD card slot, and of course the convertibility into a 'tablet'. On top of that, there's up-to-date Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adaptors you'd expect for any modern laptop. It uses the new Windows 10 operating system as well. Finally, the laptop comes with a set of speakers which are honestly comparable to a phone in the other room. As somebody who relied on my old laptop's JBL speakers for music and video sound, I'm going to need to invest in a pair of quality headphones to make up for the Inspiron 2-in1's lack of performance. Final Thoughts: If you are looking for a ultralight 2-in-1 laptop that is on the cutting edge for streaming media, you may want to keep looking. However, I would recommend this laptop for someone who is just looking for a good, dependable laptop with some bells and whistles. If you work with Office documents (Office software does not come preloaded), store scads of photos and videos of family and friends, and browse the Internet you will enjoy the up-to-date processor, multiple ports, and the ability to use as a tablet.

Dear NBCTeach05, It's unfortunate to hear that your new Dell laptop is not working the way that you had hoped it would. If you are continuing to experience slowness with your computer we'd recommend the following:
      Delete temporary files and directories
      1. Click Start, then in the search bar type "disk". Disk Cleanup should appear on the menu above the search box.
      2. Run disk cleanup and eliminate unneeded temporary files (Search results, Internet Cache and other windows temp files you may no longer need)
      3. Select files you want to delete then click OK to start the cleanup process. Uninstall applications you no longer use 1) Open the Programs and Features application in Control Panel. 2) Scan the list of applications installed for ones that you no longer use. 3) Highlight any application you no longer use and then click the uninstall button at the top of the list. Follow the prompts to uninstall.
      4. Repeat for each application you want to uninstall.
      5. Move large files and/or seldom used files to backup media (Photos, Music you seldom listen to, application downloads after the application has been installed etc.).
      6. Empty the Recycle Bin.
You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tSulGV.
If you'd like tips on extending the battery life of your computer we'd recommend the following:
      Change the Power Plan:
      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built-in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs. 1) Click on the Action Center icon within the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. 2) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. 3) Turn Battery Saver On or Off. 4) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. 5) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. 6) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.
You can read the full article here -  http://dell.to/2vfXWf4.
Lastly, if your device continues to overheat we'd recommend that you try these steps -
      Tips for Proper Usage:
      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on blanket, pillow, or other type of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

Purchased this laptop for my elementary school daughter and HD crashed less than 3 months after purchase. I had to pay out of pocket since I didn’t have a “Geek squad plan” which I was never offered at time of purchase. I had multiple issues with laptop and then it just stopped working. All of this with less than 2 years use. If it was just a couple hundred dollars it would be more palpable but for over $800. It is extremely poor quality and a rip-off!

Set up on this computer was quite easy, a voice talks to you & guides you through the whole process. The screen is large & clear(15.6) , also a touchscreen & the mouse pad is also large, it is a flat surface though so it was a little difficult to move around on. The keyboard is backlit which is a great feature & it is set back further so if you have long arms it is comfortable. The computer has 1 HDMI port , 3 USB ports also a memory card reader & a headphone jack, it is convertible so you can bend it in half & turn it around & it becomes a large tablet. Very slim lightweight design. Bluetooth is also available & I found it very easy to connect my iPhone & was able to access all my photos. Connection to my wireless printer was also very easy. The card reader was quick too & my pictures were up in a few minutes. This computer does not have a CD/DVD drive The battery charges quickly and lasts for a bit, not as long as I expected. Speakers are just ok, sound is clear but no great stereo sound if that's what your'e looking for. The big downfall is Windows 10 with limited apps. I haven't had a laptop since Windows 8, which was awful & this is a little better but not much. I've been using a Mac desktop & still prefer that over Windows but that's my choice, yours may be different. Over all it is a nice computer with quite a few good features.
