All the right specs, poor engineering and QC

The computer has all the specs that I desired, but simply can't compete with apple in terms of quality and usability. Dell copied apple with the introduction of a large touchpad, but failed to perform adequate quality control. The software simply can't handle incidental brushes of the touchpad while typing, which means that typing any significant length of text (including this review) necessitates fumbling to undo text inserted in unexpected places. Not to mention that pressure on the palm rests alone, with no touching of the touch pad, is enough to trigger a mouse click! If you don't have the software tools to deal with a large touchpad, simply stick with a small one that doesn't get in the way! Also, the algorithm used to determine if fingers are moving apart or together (for a pinch gesture) is far too sensitive. Using the two finger scrolling get's annoying, because it's constantly resizing my browser text. Lastly, they seem to have copied most of apple's short cut functions, accept they don't have a side to side scroll. (Annoying! But probably the fault of Microsoft and not Dell.) The three finger gestures can also use some work; they're too touchy. Furthermore, the sound rocker flips orientation when changing to tablet mode, but this isn't always what you want. In the movie-watching, "tent" configuration it's upside down. This should be controlled by a sensor that identifies which way is up, or they should allow the user to configure what they want. I like the back-lit keyboard for working in the dark, but the power led is way too bright when working in complete darkness. It's very distracting. On the whole, I'm going to try to adjust to the low quality product that I purchased. Hopefully they come up with a software update that fixes some of the issues with their touchpad! This is my first and probably my last Dell Laptop purchase.

      Hi Alex,

We appreciate your feedback on your Dell computer. We'd recommend that you re-calibrate your touchscreen by following these steps: Below are the steps required to calibrate your Touchscreen.

      1. Restart the Computer and the Monitor
      2. Recalibrate the touch-screen. Steps to calibrate touch-screen:
      3. Go to Control Panel and select Tablet PC Settings.
      4. Under Display tab, select Calibrate.
      5. Choose Pen or Touch input.
      6. Perform the point calibration that appears on the screen to correct the linearity problems.
      7. Save the calibrated data.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uLztub.

We hope that these tips help your computer's touchscreen functionality improve for you.

After much research, I am very happy with my new laptop! It’s a touchscreen and folds just like a tablet! Fast speed. Great laptop for the price I paid for it.

very pleased with the performance and usefulness of this laptop. i needed an upgrade but not something with too many bells and whistles since i didn't need them. i don't use it more than once a week so it works perfectly for my needs and i have been very pleased. this is the first SSD that I have owned and I am impressed with the quick response time that it provides and would only buy SSD in the future based on my experience with this Dell.

It is fast and easy to use. The touch screen is perfect, it is fast and reacts to fingers and pens in a very sensitive way. The resolution is amazing. Overall, it is a great computer. The only con that I can tell is the battery life that it is not too long, but I know that it is among the modern laptops average, so no complains.

I bought this computer because I trust Dell and I wanted a SSD. The computer is thin and lightwait and the set up was easy. I have had it only a short time but so far it does all I could ask for. I’m not a gamer so I don’t use it for that. It boots quickly and has great screen resolution. The battery life is within the time frame given in specs. Love the touch screen. Still learning Windows 10.

Very impressed by the combination of performance, weight, and battery life for the nice 15" screen size. It rivals the similar MacBook and Surface products for half the price. I don't know why you would pay the premium for their branded products when the Dell is equal or better in every respect.

I love the large screen but that does make it heavier. I like the speed but I am a little disappointed that after about 400 photos I have to put them in the external harddrive. My cloud was full.

The computer has been easy to navigate around the screen, and the speed has been very good. I was looking for more speed from the processor and being able to work on multiple things at a time. So far, so good.

I would not recommend this computer. There was problems after problems. I can't even being to remember everything. Even calling Dell to get help was no good. They had no idea what they were doing. Even when I called to order the pin for this computer, Dell ordered the wrong one. When I called back again the man said "I don't know" and gave me my money back. The last was a something popped up and I had to go back to best buy to find out what it was, because it would not come off. I found out that this is something that happens with Dells. That is when I said done and returned it.

This is a good unit for the money I like the speed and RAM as I use pretty system draining programs like Outlook. I also like to run multiple programs and this unit seems to be able to keep up. I don't like not having a number pad separate but should be able to get used to that. Otherwise, no issues so far.

I bought this laptop to keep up with demands of school and it's been great! I will say now in the days of zoom meeting I've noticed that the microphone is not great, but a good headset makes that a non-issue. Love that it can covert to tablet mode and the touch screen is great!

I've experience no problems running AutoCAD Civil 3D. I've ran several programs and several windows connected to the internet with no lag in performance. The touch-screen function works great and is a nice option to have. Very light and slim profile. Takes up little room in a laptop backpack. The only drawback is a result of me wanting a bigger screen, so holding this 15.6" in tablet mode is a little awkward and cumbersome. Go with the 13" if you are going to use this as a tablet as often as you'll use it as a laptop. Not too fond of 'tent' mode either.
