    Windows 10 Home not so intuitive as Windows 7

    I ordered this new Dell 17" Inspiron 7786 2 in 1 laptop online from Best Buy to quickly replace my broken 9 year old Dell Studio 17 which had Windows 7 Pro. Dell's shipment of that same computer was going to take 2 weeks longer than what Best Buy offered. The laptop is fine, but the Windows 10 Home edition has taken me much longer to configure, customize, and install programs for my small business than any other Windows operating system that I have had in the last 25 years. For some reason, Microsoft has put more effort into being able to change colors, than actually doing work related program computer functioning settings. Lot's of CMD line tweaks are out there in the community to bypass Windows 10 settings. Never had to use the command line since Windows 95! I'm starting to re-learn the "logic" of this new operating system settings and commands, but I would say that Android apps and Apple IOS has a much more intuitive interface compared to Windows 10. It's been 3 weeks since I got the new system setup from the old Windows 7 Pro email (WLM and Contacts) and the new Edge browser. Maybe it's for the best? Hoping so! Time will tell.

    Love this computer!! Its quiet, fast, has the touchscreen and numeric keypad, which is a must for me as I do a lot of excel spreadsheets and its much easier to key in numbers with the keypad, and has SSD and 17" screen. Meets all of my requirements, very few models have all of this for the price. Previously had an HP (yes, it had the keypad too) but hated it from the day I bought it. it was loud and constantly spinning. This computer is great. I'm not a gamer, so can't speak to running games on the computer, but for my needs - email, internet/web browsing, social apps, excel and Word files, and I save a lot of pictures on the computer, its perfect.

    Computer works quick, also dies quick.

    I like this computer, but the battery dies within 1 hour of using it. Which I find ridiculous. I find it a bit of a hassle because the only way i'm able to use it is if it's plugged in. I have my brightness down extremely low and have also found ways to try and save the battery. It's currently on 94 percent and it's telling me I have 3 hours till it dies. I haven't even went on the internet. I've just been going through my settings and it's already decreasing my percentage. It even skips the percentage numbers, meaning it'll go from 60 percent to 58. less than a minute, skipping 59. Overall, It's a good computer, but the battery life is terrible. I've only had it less than a week and it seems to have gotten worse.

      We're sorry to hear that the battery life on your new computer is so short. Here are some other tips to try to extend the battery life of your computer:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
      Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

    Slow Wi-Fi

    I've only had this a day and was frustrated by the slow WiFi download speeds. Was only getting about 1/6 of the speed I should have. After checking and updating drivers found the culprit was the pre-installed application called SmartByte. After uninstalling speeds are right where they should be. Dell, please stop installing these frustrating bloatware applications and screwing up what is otherwise a beautiful product.

    - build quality feels pretty solid - the performance with the SSD is awesome, it's very fast - the touch monitor works very well, responsive and sensitive. - on the downside and the reason for only getting 4 stars is the CPU fan that is too noisy even when running in low speed. it sounds almost as if it's touching something. not what you'd expect from a Dell laptop in that price range

    I just bought this computer. I paid the bigger bucks for the SSD because of the reviews that said it was quiet. Well, I am not running anything at the moment and I can still hear the fan and I am 8 feet from the computer. I bought it to record videos for my students; that is why I needed it to be "quiet". Will be returning to store.

    Will never buy Open Box

    I bought an open box product, thinking it would be no different. It was delivered inappropriately. I found that out when I returned it. Also, it only came with the computer. The adapted was missing and could not be replaced in the store. I returned the entire computer and bought a more expensive "new box" version. No more shortcuts!

    The overall design makes a lot of sense - thin body, SSD only storage, above average RAM, touchscreen on 360 hinges, solid battery life - it's 2019, a laptop today should have all that. Unfortunate drawbacks - entry level graphics card. Entry level audio card. Wish those were upgradable.

    Returned within the first 3 days. Right out of the box the computer was glitching, going to blue screen, shutting down in the middle of watching streaming program, and shutdown programs while in sleep mode.

    I like this Dell laptop. I got the one that is faster. I like that I can enlarge the screen. It has a beautiful picture. I got the 17" size screen. Dell lasts longer than a lot of laptops that I have had.
