I bought this open box, good condition. It doesn’t charge and even when it does it takes forever to charge it even 30%

This Snapdragon Powered DELL Inspiron laptop is terrific for a Windows PC. I finally found a Windows laptop with decent battery life. I am using the system quite a bit, and over 20 minutes, I used 5% battery, which should forecast more than 6.5 hours of battery life. It uses a USB-C charging cable; for example, a “generic” Insignia USB-C laptop charger I was using with my MacBook and Chromebook also seems to charge this laptop. If there were one thing I might change about this laptop, I might consider bringing it to geek squad to upgrade the internal storage. It’s possible I can get by with the 256GB, though, and might opt to save money and limit local storage usage (More and more can be done on the cloud these days, and we have network-attached storage in-house). Neither ‘Windows Hello’ option (Fingerprint or Facial Recognition) is supported on this laptop, there is no fingerprint reader, and the camera is not compatible. I’m personally happy just using the pin code to log in. On the laptop is a full HD webcam included, so if you do video conferencing, you’ll appreciate that. You’ll note in the description of this laptop that it comes with “S-Mode” enabled. If you’re not familiar, this basically locks you out of installing applications that aren’t from the Windows store. Just know that if this is a problem for you it can be turned off. I personally turned it off early on as I wanted to be able to install an application from outside the Windows store; however, if you do that, there is the risk of a less stable system because you’re no longer blocking unwanted apps from installing. There is a lovely feel (a texture) on the keys on this laptop. It’s a small thing that makes a difference in the “quality feeling” of this laptop. Also, the IPS display looks beautiful, and there is font smoothing done in Windows these days, so the text looks much better than I remember it before I switched to MacOS. I recommend this laptop, and I would consider even giving this model laptop to a family member.

I had been looking for a laptop for work. I wanted something fairly light with good battery life that could run basic word processing and database programs. I also needed something that I could also use on the go when needed. This device delivers with the added benefit of a touch screen so I have more control over my screen without needing a mouse. I’ve had my Dell Inspiron 3420 for several days now. Once I was content that it would work well for what I needed, I decided to test out some other uses and got some mixed results. I have no previous experience with snapdragon processors. Though they are never going to be confused with anything designed for high end computing, it works well for most things you would use a low to mid level laptop for. The main thing I needed was to be able to effortlessly use excel, word, and filemaker pro. Then I wanted to be able occasionally combat boredom with options like Youtube and social media. The laptop certainly handled all of these chores just fine. Even used a fairly large database (lots of data!) and had no issues. It wasn’t what I would call lightening fast or anything, but certainly performed at a satisfactory level. When I tried to play a couple games that I would consider more at a mid level of required computing power it did start to lag. So any gaming should probably be limited to more basic fare like what you might find on a phone or tablet. The touch screen response is solid as is the touchpad. The screen looks pretty good (full HD). It’s been fairly overcast this week so I couldn’t test it in bright sun, but when I did take it outside the screen was still bright and easy to read. Speakers sound a bit “tinny” or hollow, but laptops rarely have really good sounding speakers. Overall I wouldn’t describe the laptops’ feel as particularly well built but neither is it cheap feeling. I do like the look and feel of the top cover. The battery life is pretty good to excellent. The built in camera is solid. All in all I like this laptop. It does exactly what I need it for. Though I will never confuse it with my gaming laptop, it works well for what it was intended for. Once I’m done with this particular work I needed it for I will probably give it to my father. I think it would be great for him. He would really appreciate the touch screen. If someone I knew was looking for something easy to use that was in this price range and wasn’t looking to seriously game or produce videos, I would absolutely recommend this device to a friend.

-has a quick charge port, a mini SD card port, one USB port, headphone port, and an extra charging port. -the camera/video editor are a game changer with this Dell. I love that I can compare several photos side by side with just the touch of selected photos. -when taking pictures you can select your framing grid to be: Rule of Thirds, crosshairs, golden ratio, and square. -video settings range from 120p to 1080p -photo quality ranges from 0.02MP to 2.1MP -time lapse option allows camera to continuously take photos until the camera button is pressed again. -there’s even a flicker reduction. I’m really enjoying the camera/video installed on this laptop. -easy touch nightlight mode allows for the screen to have a vintage screen look to be easy on the eyes…. -Microsoft Start can be easily accessed from the bottom left weather button by pressing and holding. Four choices open up at the top, the second which is a play button shows various types of videos based on the option you select, (sports, weather, news, lifestyle, money, etc). -This Dell packs a punch with its very organized format of interacting with almost any App. It’s like no other experience I’ve had and I find it refreshing to -keyboard on this model does NOT light up. -power button key is faint and so I couldn’t find it so easily. -friendly touch platform allows for less steps/less typing to open up various programs -comes with Microsoft To Do list which allows you to easily create a list of tasks and even assign specific tasks to certain people. -WhatsApp is very useful to connect with family and friends via chat, call, or video call. I use it often on my phone an appreciate the App came preinstalled on my Dell. -same with Prime Video, pre-installed and something I love to use on the go. -when the power is draining, it will switch to save battery mode and remind you to plug in to start charging which is handy if you need time to search for your charging wire. -I love that Dell has included games for free download. It’s relaxing to have something to do when stuck somewhere and can’t necessarily do work, but can have some downtime with a game or two. -touchpad is very sensitive by default but you can switch that out in settings. -touchscreen is very responsive. Touchscreen is the way to go for those who have trouble navigating clicking or pointing and clicking. It’s very easy to touch the screen to perform your tasks. -CONS: feels heavy -keys don’t light up -on/off button isn’t labeled -has only 1 USB port -doesn’t have a fan Pros: sturdy design, which makes the con of “feels heavy” not such a bad thing -Bluetooth -quality screen -good sound -great size, easy to carry -great camera and capabilities -free games easily downloaded -touch screen is responsive

My 7 year old son plays a lot of PC games on Steam and Epic games and it's more convenient for him to use a laptop sometimes. This was a good option as it's on the lower end of the price scale and he doesn't need a ton of additional features that other options have. This laptop also features a touch screen so it's good for when he plays interactive games like roblox. Overall, the functionality is good and the speed is great for when he's playing live games. He has issues with his tablet on some games where it can be laggy so he's happy with a better speed on this computer. One issue we did run into is that Fortnite won't download on it due to a new Windows security feature. I spent several hours trying to troubleshoot the issue from the epic games website and various other message boards and could never figure out how to bypass the issue with their anti cheat software and windows. If you play a lot of games from Epic, I would advise using a different software as it seems to be an overall windows issue rather than specific to this computer. This would be a good option if you want a basic laptop that doesn't have tons of bells and whistles. It would be good for kids or college students.

I got this for my daughter, so here is her observations. The Inspiron 3420 is a great, lightweight laptop for your at-home needs. The set up is extremely easy, as is switching off of "simple mode" if you want more control over your device settings. The machine has a nice, bright screen and responsive touchpad. Every program was loaded without complication and ran as expected. It's not the fastest at loading images and webpages as compared to other devices on the same internet connection. That being said, the device is still great for online word processing (like Google Docs or Slides), streaming, and social media. Now some observations from me: Windows 11 is a bit different for people that have experience with older versions of Windows. Some of the past functions are either missing or are linked differently than past versions of Windows. But it is responsive and generally easy to use. I have had one problem with Windows 11, and that is screen projecting to a Roku player. For some unknown reason the screen connection will not work with the Roku Ultra that I tested. I can't say if it's a Roku OS issue or Windows 11. Since my Windows 10 laptop still works fine, I suspect it's a Windows issue.

Dell makes great entry-level laptops, and the Inspiron 3420 is no exception. For starters and in my opinion this is a great entry level computer. If you get anything else in terms of price, and or processors, ram, etc, you’re just asking for trouble. This is the lowest specs you should get on any PC, the snapdragon processor is bare minimum to power any laptop in todays internet world, the 8GB or Ram is decent for basic computer stuff like surfing the web, watching videos, using apps etc. Definitely not a hardcore gaming. The display is nice, 14in touch screen and a crisp 1080p resolution, 1080p front facing camera. Other features is an aluminum case, windows 11 home (S mode) 256GB Solid State Drive or “SSD”. Thin and lightweight, there’s no fans so it runs super quiet, it never got too hot while I’ve been using it to the point where I should start to worry. My biggest negative for this laptop is the price, its a little more than I would expect for a laptop with these specs. If you can get it on sale, it would be perfect.

I have had this Dell Inspiron 3420 14 inch touch laptop for 2 weeks and I am very happy with it. It isn't perfect by any means, but it gets the job done. The first thing that stands out about this Dell laptop is the 14 inch HD display. It does very well indoors and out. The picture quality is very good! Another great quality of this laptop is the touchscreen responsiveness. I have not noticed any lag with the touchscreen at all. Something that I was pleasantly surprised with is the battery life. Since this Dell doesn't have any fans, it stands to reason that it will keep its charge for a while. Since it doesn't have any fans there is no noise to worry about. Once it is time for charging, it is very quick to get it back to full power. Aesthetically speaking, I really like the matte finish, it gives it a nice sleek look to it. Another nice plus to this device is the camera. It provides nice clarity for those Google or Zoom meetings. As I mentioned earlier, it is isn't perfect, but there aren't any surprises. You know going it that it doesn't come with much storage. The only other thing that I was bummed about was the lack of keyboard lighting. You will need a nice night light when working on this device after hours. Overall I am very pleased with this Dell Inspiron 3420 touchscreen laptop. It accomplishes everything that I need it to.

The Dell laptop was easy to setup initially. It took a bit to reset after I entered the wrong Microsoft login and had to reset to start over. So do it right the first time. Getting started was pretty easy for a beginner but there are a lot of preset apps and other ads and sales that can be annoying. It took me a while to remove the ones I didn’t want and all that extra stuff just slows things down. The laptop is a good size and weight. It’s not slim or very light but not too heavy either. The top/screen does lift the base up which is unusual and I am not a fan. The hinge position kind of rocks the screen to under the keyboard which gives it a slight slant. The screen looks and feels like a standard laptop but it is a touchscreen rest assured. The ports are 1 usbA 1 usbC 1 micro SD 1 headphone 1 usbC power. I would like an extra usbC or usbA and an hdmi for better flexibility. Web browsing and wifi speed is ok but now great. I could not pin point anything specific causing slower than expected speeds. Some auto set features like search bars and ads would be better left uninstalled. But instead you may want to spend a few minutes removing them or try a custom setup (I couldn’t figure out how). Some of the popups were annoying during school activities and tests Last is some key setups. The hot control keys up top need fn to work. It would be better if the volume/brightness/etc were the main function and the f1/f2/etc were secondary and used the fn key

great laptop, good battery life, good speed and memory

I reviewed this laptop before and considered it to be a pretty decent machine for the money considering its speed and processing limitations. So long as you are sticking with web browsing, social media, streaming video, email, and productivity applications, it is a rather simple and affordable solution. That was before the entire thing died, would not charge, and would not boot up after having it for only about a month. While it was fixed by Dell because it was under warranty, that process took a full two weeks because parts to fix the computer were not in stock. Ultimately, they had to replace the entire main board, which also meant everything on the laptop was completely wiped out. Luckily, I did not have anything important on the laptop, so no big deal. If that were not the case and I did not have a backup, I would have been completely out of luck because there would have been no way for me to perform such a backup (either to the cloud or locally) once the unit failed as it did (again, after only about a month). Maybe my experience was unique, but I have owned other relatively inexpensive laptops with similar functionality that never failed. As a result, this is not a unit I would recommend to anyone. Look elsewhere...

I bought the older version 2021 of this computer and, for the most part, I like it. However, for 3 years in a row the right hinge has broken and I've had to have it repaired using Best Buy Membership at $179 and this year I have to pay $5 a month more to contue this coverage. I've, also, lost computer time at work for 2 weeks a clip, while it's being repaired. I really think Dell should replace my computer with a new one without the breaking hinges.
