Not an XPS but value is there if you can get one for sale. The display is gorgeous, not 400 nit but its close.
There are several quality control issues one being the hinge caps being loose on the right side and 2nd is video display flickers occasionally. Will have to exchange.
The base clock speed is 1.69GHz, not 2.8GHz, Dell should make that clear in the specifications. The thermals can't keep up at the 2.8GHz speed.

First computer purchase in many years. I was excited to get this laptop with the great price as the Deal of the Day item. Unfortunately I was somewhat disappointed. Battery life was really poor, and it kept dropping off the wi-if. Excellent 4K display, but I think that contributed to the poor battery life. Returned it a few days after the purchase.

Hello MGoBlue,
We are sorry to hear that the battery life of your Inspiron is not quite meeting expectations. Here is a quick tip on how to potentially improve battery life.
1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon. 2. On the options list, click Power Options. 3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results. Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off. d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.
We hope this helps!
Best Regards, Anthony P.

Bought this Dell Inspiron laptop for my son’s college work when the price was $400 lower for college students early September. A replacement to a 3-year old iMac laptop which was not that usable for school work since his college uses Windows platform for everything. The Dell Inspiron didn’t disappoint, great screen resolution, speedy, nice looking, lightweight, tablet combo, etc. Wish we switched to this laptop earlier. My son is very happy with it now. He was even able to use the pen for a class project. Highly recommend this to everyone when the price is right and or need is there.

Have been a loyal customer to Asus but after reading reviews on 13" 2 in 1 computer decided on this Dell and they have a good reputation. Ultra 4K screen 16mg memory and 512 SSD drive but only two usb ports one type A and Thunderbolt 4 type c which is used for charging. Don't like touchpads so I use a Wireless mouse and that fills the type a port so can't have a DVD drive, thumb drive or back up drive. I guess I have to buy USB expander that will give 2 C type and 2-3 A type ports. Other than that is a great computer and to have more storage I installed 512gb micro sd card. Also can't beat size and weight.

I’m not giving a 5 stars, because I feel that the battery does not last long enough as Intel assures that the evo version intervenes to achieve a longer duration. But, everything else is excellent.

I really like this computer! However, after getting it home I realized I needed more storage so I returned it for its 1TB big brother.
Pros - The computer touch screen is intuitive and the hips quality feels exemplary.
Great battery life and speed is excellent!
Screen is brilliant!
Cons (for me) - Power Button is next to Delete key.
Limited ports and will absolutely require a docking station.

A great laptop for taking notes and running programs. As an engineering student at Purdue University, I approve of this. The downsides to this product would be the single USB-C port and the heat coming from the bottom. It also feels as if the fan isn’t doing much in the area of “essentially” cooling it down, but overall it’s a powerful device for its size.

The strong points are portability and battery life. This is suitable for a college student or businessperson whose main uses are productivity. This won't handle engineering software well, naturally, but it's also not designed for that. Keep in mind what your application will be before purchasing, for 90% of users out there this is an excellent choice.

I purchased this laptop on 1/16/2021 but I returned it on 1/30/2021. During that time, the battery life lasted about 2-3 hours at the most. I was used it to browse the web, check email, and general research. The speakers are ok but could use improvement. The laptop typically ran hot and the fan was extremely loud when in use. I followed all the processes and updates that were requested but the constant high temperature, glitchy screen, and frozen update screen, was an issue for me. Visually, this is a beautiful machine, the pen is a nice tough but it did not work for me. The cost of this laptop combined with the issues was not something I was willing to keep long term. Geek Squad was great assisting me via the online chat regarding the return and customer service quickly processed the return.

2Boots,
Thanks for your review and we're sorry that your computer's performance did not meet your needs. In the future we'd recommend some tips for extending your computer's battery life:
Change the Power Plan:
We'd also recommend the following tips for helping your computer operate at a cooler temperature: Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue. 2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system. Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage. 3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%. 4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis. 5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance. 6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.
We're sorry to hear that you decided to return your computer but we hope that you'll consider Dell again in the future.
Best, Bryan 1-800-624-9896

Great little laptop, very fast, touchscreen works excellent, make sure to download the drivers and updates using the dell assistant and windows update immediately. It took me about an hour of downloading and restarting before the machine was all caught up to speed with all the latest drivers and windows updates it needed to run optimally, and once it was all updated, its a really fast comp.! The stylus is really cool too.

Really like this computer's design, although Im in trouble and need help has no 10 key numbers (I don't use that anyway). This Dell has all the other features I do like, like fingerprint reader and the pen that allows for writing on the screen. I'm not really techie, but the specs work as well. 4k screen, 16gb, 512 gb 13.3 screen size (which, although is a bit different then the 15.6 that im used to, I find that I actually don't mind it at all). Ok...thats the sugar. The vinegar is it gets really hot when charging, I notice. I mean, you shouldn't touch the battery pack AT ALL, during this process. Ultimately, its fine once its done and Im in trouble and need help doesn't take too long to get a good charge. 2nd thing...this was a out of box laptop and for whatever reason, appeared to have froze on me atleast 3 times within the same day and time frame. Dont know what caused this, because as I stated, im not techie and am certainly not doing anything overly pressing on the processor. Im going to return Im in trouble and need help. Too scared to be stuck with Im in trouble and need help after the out of store warranty is over. Overall a good machine, would definitely purchase Im in trouble and need help again.

NonTech,
Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the overheating and freezing symptoms that you're experiencing. We'd recommend the following tips to help with the overheating:
Tips for Proper Usage:
If you'd like to diagnose the freezes, you can try these steps:
1. Run a Computer Diagnostic. To determine if your computer is experiencing a hardware problem, run the Dell Preboot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics. For information on how to run Diagnostics, and to determine the issue, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2iaiujA. 2. Check Safe Mode for Symptoms. To boot into safe mode, please follow the instructions below: a) Start the computer. b) Tap 'F8' on the keyboard immediately and every one second until the Dell logo screen disappears. From there you will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen. (If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.) c) Select Safe mode with Networking and press Enter. d) Log on as the administrator or as a user with administrative access. e) Open applications and test the computer in safe mode. If the symptoms exist in safe mode, please continue the troubleshooting steps in this article. If the symptoms do not exist in safe mode, the issue is likely related to a driver or software and you may wish to complete step 3 to see if you are able to resolve the lockups or freezing. 3. Check for Malware. Malware (Virus, Spyware, etc.) can definitely cause a Windows system to lock up or appear to hang. To check for malware on your system and to ensure that your computer is up to date on security software, visit Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2wWP1zI.

This laptop is very fast and, honestly, probably overkill for someone like myself who mostly works in basic word processing programs as well as Google Chrome, but it's nice to know the extra power is available for the occasional video editing that I like to do. It's incredibly lightweight and compact, which is nice considering I wanted something more portable than my previous computer. Also, I really enjoy the feel of the keyboard, which is important to me given my general use of the computer.

Perfect laptop for on the go, especially if you don't want to pay for the XPS price. Slightly heavier, but it's not noticeable. Excellent choice for our salesperson to utilize especially when having to compile reports and crunch numbers in a spreadsheet. The UHD screen is vibrant and very sharp and, apparently, a must-have for our salesperson. The 2-in-1 screen makes it easy for him to take notes and present to customers while on the go.
