I replace my desk top computer to this lap top so I choose large screen and this laptop is foldable so I can draw on flat surface. I have not explored all the functions yet, but I love it so far.

This is a great computer for our son for college. The tech guys at the store spent some time with us to help us pick this one. It is not too heavy and he can run the programs he needs on it.

This is a superior laptop in comparison to the Dells I was familiar with 20 years ago. After a few bad experiences, I was always in the habit of walking rapidly past a Dell display or product.

I really like the computer because it works really well and is light. Love the size of screen. This is my second Dell Inspiron. The only thing I find is the keys are hard to see.

This laptop is great.. its fast, its designed and built well, it doubles as a tablet.. but I have one major issue - when under stress from the CPU, its gets hot! Not only hot, the fan is loud and annoying. Its so hot in fact that its impossible to keep in your lap. I thought these newer CPUs would be much more efficient with cooling but i'm disappointed in the amount of this thing produces. Maybe its the graphics card.. i dunno, but its just way too hot. I"m considering returning just for that reason.

      Tgblakeman,

Thanks for your review and we're sorry that your computer's temperature and noise are not what you were hoping for. Here are some tips to help your computer operate at a cooler temperature:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uJ8AdG.

If you'd like your computer to operate a little quieter we'd suggest updating the BIOS on your computer:

An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

The overall performance of this laptop is good and the screen is very nice for viewing. The Keyboard however is very poorly engineered. The letters on the keys are nearly invisible in most lighting. This is a major failure which makes the machine more difficult to use than is necessary.

Great hardware - horrible human interface

Let's start with what I hate, because isn't that what you are here for anyway? The keyboard - The action is great but the backlighting is a disaster. I know that silver is the trendy color right now, but honestly, someone in marketing deserves a good swift one to the kiwis. They obviously didn't test this in real world situations. The backlighting has two intensity levels. The brightest one isn't bright enough in many situations. The other is useless. There is almost no viewing angle. You have view the keys head on to make use of the backlighting. I use the laptop on my lap and I'm at a 45 degree angle to the keyboard. I can see the lights shining out from under the edges of the keys better than the letters. The contrast between the silver keys and the grey letters is insufficiently annoying. As soon as the warranty runs out on this rig, I will replace the keyboard. The mousepad - The buttons on the mouse pad are also a failure. When I go to drag something, I have to press down extra hard on the left button or else it lets go while dragging. Not sure if I have a defective button or this is not designed well. The fingerprint reader rarely works. I think because it is so small it can't read enough of my fingerprint at once. I have no complaints about the actual hardware whatsoever. All the components perform impressively. The only problems I have are the human interface devices described above.

My old computer... and, I do mean old... It was so old I could not upgrade the operating system. Anyhow, my old computer just quit working. I couldn't reboot. It wouldn't restart. I went to Best Buy and talked it over and got my options. I am a former customer and have purchased at the store before. I bought a laptop. I've had it for a while and I really enjoy the new features and the improved response time. 5 Stars! Best Buy... You earned your pay. Thanks.
