Setting the resolution in Windows 10:
1. Close all open programs.
2. You can either right click Start, and then click Control Panel or click on start and type Control Panel and click the icon that appears.
3. In the Control Panel window, click System, and then click Display.
4. Select the monitor you want to change, if more than one is connected to your PC.
5. Click on the Resolution drop down box to see a list of recommended resolutions for that display.
6. Click on the one you want, to change the screen resolution, and then click Apply.
7. Click on keep changes if you want to keep the new settings. If not select revert.
- Note: If new settings do not work, Windows® will attempt to revert back to the original settings automatically.
8. Restart the computer to ensure that the changes stay in effect.

Thank you for your feedback and review. We apologize for the issues you have come across with the screen flickering and blurry images on your monitor. We have provided steps that can be used to run a Self-Test on the monitor to help diagnose the issue.
Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove all digital cables (DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort) from the back of the computer.
Turn on the monitor.
Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable: then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video card (GPU) and computer, because your monitor is functioning properly.

Thank you for your review. We apologize for the issues you have come across with the monitor not functioning properly. We have provided steps that can be used to run a Self-Test on the monitor to help diagnose the issue if needed in the future.
To run the monitor built-in self test (BIST):
1. Make sure that the monitor screen is clean (no dust particles on the surface of the screen).
2. Unplug the video cable(s) from the back of the Dell monitor and the PC. The Dell monitor should now enter self-test mode.
3. Press and hold Button 1 for 5 seconds. A gray screen should appear.
4. Carefully inspect the screen for abnormalities.
5. Press Button 1 on the front panel again. The color of the screen should now change to red.
6. Inspect the screen for any abnormalities.
7. Repeat Step 5 and Step 6 to inspect the screen in green, blue, black, white and text screens.
8. The test is complete when the white screen appears.
9. Press Button 1 to exit the built-in self test diagnostics.

Dual HDMI-Huge Plus
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.In the box is the monitor, the stand arm, the power cable, warranty/warning information, and one HDMI cable. Set up is super easy and I love that the monitor scans for signals when plugging in HDMI cord to the PC and/or laptop. At the bottom right hand corner of the monitor, there are small buttons that control the settings for the monitor; sharpness, brightness, etc. There is also a power button, but you will barely use it since the monitor recognizes when you turn on your system. Switching between system displays is also easy as well, you can set the monitor to auto or pick HDMI1 or HDMI2. When set to auto, when one system is turned on the monitor turns on and shows the display and vice versa. The only negative that I found is the stand arm included. The height of the monitor is in one position. For me, the height is perfect because I normally sit my chair down lower to the ground. For someone that is taller or sits higher, there is a possibility that you may be looking down of the monitor instead of eye level and the monitor can tilt forward and backwards as well. Overall, I love this monitor and I would recommend to friends and family.

Defective cord

Using the hdmi cable from the good one fixed the problem. I did not want to box up the monitor and exchange it just because of a bad cable. Neither Best Buy nor Dell would replace the cord. They both said they would sell me a new cord, neither would replace the defective item. Both companies were rude and unhelpful!

Perfect Second Monitor

No-frills IPS monitor works great in portrait mode
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This Dell S2421NX monitor is perfect for my need in finding an IPS monitor I could use in portrait mode alongside my 2K 165Hz gaming monitor for remote work during the current pandemic, but also to keep Discord open while playing my games. Let me make this clear from the get-go: if you're looking to use the included monitor stand, it will NOT work in vertical/portrait mode, only horizontally. In my case, I purchased a dual monitor mount off Amzn for about $30 that supports VESA mounting, and the S2421NX comes ready to mount with the screws already included where the mounting bracket would go. I turned the monitor 90 degrees *to the left* where the Dell logo is facing on the right side. This makes it perfect for the near bezel-less display to adjoin my primary gaming monitor without any additional bezel gaps. Picture quality is not the best in the market, but is totally just fine for my specific use case scenario, so YMMV and your opinion on how well the display quality looks will be subjective, but it doesn't come anywhere close to how bright and colorful my gaming monitor is. What has this monitor going for it is for under $200, you get 1080p Full HD, IPS, and the ability to slightly overclock the refresh rate to 75Hz, giving you smoother motions of the mouse cursor and scrolling. The S2421NX also comes with two HDMI ports, which makes it fantastic to use when you want to connect a second device, like a video game console or a streaming device to your computer desk setup. While the S2421NX is advertised to support AMD FreeSync, my Nvidia graphics card doesn't pick it up as such for enabling G-SYNC. Again, not a big deal for my use case but for those of you wanting to use it for that feature, it looks like it'll only work with supported AMD Radeon GPUs. Interestingly, my gaming monitor is "FreeSync" but also works with G-SYNC as well - could just all come down to what support the manufacturer implements for each monitor, perhaps. In conclusion, the Dell S2421NX is a great budget-class monitor that will work well for the average user not looking to splurge, but for the power user makes a fantastic secondary monitor, even more positioned vertically for those like myself that prefer that look in their workstation. You also can't go wrong with Dell as a monitor brand, they are known to produce quality displays across their entire line.

Brittle Screen/Unstable Base for Monitor Size

I was adjusting the base of the monitor on my desk and it fell forward less than 12 inches and hit the back of my laptop. Upon turning on the screen, there was a crack on the left side which quickly spread and now the screen is totally black and unusable. Suffice to say, it is not worth the risk of purchasing this monitor based on price point and quality.

No sound; terrible support

Additionally, Dell makes it clear that they don't want to talk to customers with all of the automated options, including "Please go to What'sapp"! Will be returning.

Poor mounting

I searched forever to find a VESA adapter for this model number with no success. If you plan to use the include stand, then you will be okay. If you want to mount it to a multi-monitor pole, then look for another monitor.

Great monitor for working at home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been in need of a replacement for my 17" LCD Dell monitor that I think is pushing 10 yrs old, so getting this unit was a godsend for working from home. I have the monitor connected via HDMI to an HP laptop, using it as the secondary. I don't have a large desk, and it's not positioned terribly far from my eyes, but this monitor still provides a great working display at 75 Hz. I haven't really felt any undue eye strain using the unit, which I thought was a real possibility before getting it in place. The 'ultrathin' bezel really is, so there isn't all of this extra frame and space taken up. I do wish I had the option to tilt the monitor forward on the stand, but you are limited to 90 degrees or back with the applied monitor stand. In regard to setup - couldn't be easier. No tools required to get the stand and monitor paired, and other than normal Windows Display adjustments once I had the HDMI hooked up, no issues. Keep in mind if you are looking for a gaming monitor - this isn't it. But for work or non-gamers, it's a pretty great option.

The monitor comes expertly packed and with an included HDMI cable and VESA mount cover, and fits together on the stand in a quick series of clicks. The stand is nice weight, not flimsy or cheap, it holds the monitor firm in place with no issue. It does have some slight tilt range, but no height adjustment and no ability to rotate the monitor vertical. I like it because it has a small footprint, even for a 24” display size, so it’s a great add-on to a laptop. The display is only FHD 1080p but is nice and accurate, as I would expect from a Dell IPS LED monitor. Color seemed to be mostly accurate right out of the box and I love how the design offers very slim bezels. It’s a different experience when you’re using a monitor with edge to edge display and little to no bezel, the screen feels bigger and more vibrant. Viewing angle was very nice, but average for an IPS display. I do wish the display was brighter and the 1K:1 contrast ratio is ok for using productivity and web based applications, but I would not recommend this for gaming, even with the AMD FreeSync on board. This is a great second monitor for working from home, virtual schooling for the kids, etc. It does go to 75Hz refresh rate, which again, for productivity tasks does make a slight difference over 60Hz for sure. And having the dual HDMI inputs does offer easy switching from source to source, if you want to view multiple source content or need to share the monitor with another device. Overall, you can’t go wrong with the Dell S2421INX if you’re looking for a solid performer and need an extra monitor to supplement your workflow.
