Customers are saying
Customers love the XPS 13's lightweight design, impressive battery life, and excellent performance. Many appreciate its compact size and high-quality build, along with the ample RAM and storage. However, some users wish it had more ports, and a few have noted that it can get warm and the fan can be noticeable at times. Overall, the positive feedback on portability, performance, and build quality outweighs the concerns about ports and heat.

Upgrades That Matter
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My daily driver, prior to upgrading, was a Dell XPS 13 9305. The upgrades seen in the 9315 over the 9305 are mostly welcome changes, with a few of my personal preference nit-picks. First off, the immediately apparent change is the screen size and keyboard. On the prior model, the screen was limited to a squished 16x9 ratio with bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Thankfully, the new bezel to bezel screen from the most recent 2-in-1 models have been incorporated here and I love it. I really had no idea how much more difficult it was to work with the prior screen size until I was able to work on my daily tasks using the full screen. Honestly, the reason why I bought the 9305 was that I was mistakenly thinking that I was getting a model with the bezel to bezel design, but I was sadly mistaken when it arrived. When I have to upgrade again in the future, it’ll be difficult, if not impossible, to go with anything less. As mentioned, the keyboard is another big change over the 9305. It now extends from edge to edge, as opposed to the previous model that had buffer zones to the sides. I understand that the major part of this was due to internals: the previous model included 3 USB-C ports, a SD card reader, and a side battery indicator. The previous model also had a battery light indicator in the front just below the touchpad and it’s gone in this model, but more on that later. Now that the keyboard is edge to edge, Dell has only been able to include a single USB-C port on each side. To make up for this, they’ve included a USB-A to USB-C dongle and a USB-C 3.5 mm audio adapter. While this doesn’t completely make up for the loss of the extra USB-C port (which I did find myself using occasionally in conjunction with the other two ports), it helps to soften the blow. If I had to be honest with myself, I haven’t used the 3.5 mm port in a while and the use of all 3 ports at the same time was a rarity. I do mourn the loss of battery indicators though. While I had actually forgotten about the side one, the one below the touchpad was very useful when charging. Granted, you can check the battery level via the icon in the taskbar when in use, but if you shut down the laptop, close it up, and plug it in, it’s anyone’s guess as to when it’s been fully charged. With regards to battery, the power adapter for this model is now 45 w as opposed to the 60 w version required. The plus for this is using a third party adapter isn’t as expensive as having to find 60 w ones and uses less power. In turn, this means longer battery life but I find that it charges slower than the 60 w model. It’s a small pain point, but if it means that I can keep the laptop operating on battery for closer to 6 hour periods under heavy use for longer, as opposed to my previous laptop that was only getting 4 hour battery windows under medium use, I’ll take it. Going back to the keyboard, the larger keyboard means larger keys. They feel like softer presses than the old model, but their proximity to each other have put a cramp into my typing. It’ll take some getting used to. That’s nothing, though, compared to the power button. Like the previous model, the power button incorporates a fingerprint scanner, which I love… it’s just its new placement. The button has been incorporated directly into the keyboard as opposed to being offset from the main keyboard. With the new positioning being where the Delete key was, I’m finding that I get close to accidentally turning off the computer a lot. I use the Delete key a lot and it’s a little painful to accommodate the new placement. Another keyboard change I’m struggling with is the arrow keys and the new integration of the Page Up and Page Down into the Up and Down arrow keys. I use these a fair amount and having to use the fn button to access them is a bit of a pain too. All things considered, I believe the new keyboard is sturdier and much quieter than its predecessor, so the changes are maybe for the best. Of the other physical changes made, I’m not a fan of the down-firing speakers. I believe there were down-firing speakers in the 9305, but for some reason, these new ones don’t sound as great. That’s likely due to other changes to the internals involved with the bigger keyboard. With regards to internals, it’s nice to have a 1 TB hard drive. Even though I was able to make due with the 250 GB drive in the 9305, not having to connect an external hard drive all the time is a relief.

Excellent Performance and Storage Capacity
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently got the Dell XPS laptop with 32 GB of memory and a 1 TB SSD drive, and it’s been great. This laptop is an absolute powerhouse, providing an exceptional computing experience. First and foremost, the 32 GB of memory ensures smooth multitasking, allowing me to run resource-intensive applications, large spreadsheets, and demanding software without any lag or slowdown. It's a true multitasker's dream come true. My son is always opening new tabs for things and with this machine I feel comfortable just leaving his browser open in another session while I do what I need to do. Great for sharing at the beach! That said, the lack of a discrete video board shows in combination with the 12th gen processor. I'm an amateur video editor and I like to start editing my videos while I’m still on vacation (and have the time. The large drive makes it easy to dump files on the machine. Basic editing works fast. When it comes time to render the final product, however, it can take a ridiculous amount of time, nearly 3x longer than the same process on my daughter’s gaming laptop. Further, there’s no built in camera card reader. I have to connect the camera to the laptop with a USB cable or bring an external card reader. The 1 TB SSD drive is huge for storage and speed. It offers an ample amount to store projects and software installations without worrying about running out of space. The machine boots in under 10 seconds and loads programs lightning quick. It's a remarkable combination of storage and performance, giving me the best of both worlds (cue Hannah Montana theme song!). The build quality of the Dell XPS is exceptional, with a sleek and elegant design that exudes professionalism. I have an earlier iteration of this machine for my work laptop and this one looks better. I love the multiple USB-C / Thunderbolt ports. It quickly connects to my home docking station and drives the multiple monitors with ease. The laptop's display is very sharp, especially at 13.4”. While the colors aren’t as eye popping as the OLED machine my brother has, my battery life is much better. This has averaged 4.5 hours for charge, even with heavy processing. The keyboard is comfortable to type on, with well-spaced keys and a satisfying tactile feedback. The touchpad is precise and responsive, enhancing the overall user experience. The screen is not touch sensitive, but I haven’t found that to be a major issue. There’s only been a few times in a cramped airplane seat where I wanted to just press the screen instead of using the touchpad. As the touchpad allows for zooming, scrolling, and screen flipping, it’s just as, if not more, versatile as a touch screen. The machine is feather light and in the same class as other ultra portable machines. At 2lb 8oz, it’s barely heavier than an iPad and way more capable. The speakers under the keyboard are loud enough to use for a video call. The mic was clear, as was the camera. No complaints from anyone I was chatting with that it was too noisy or otherwise hard to hear. Overall, this Dell XPS laptop with its 32 GB of memory and a 1 TB SSD drive is an absolute beast when it comes to performance and storage capacity. It's an ideal choice for professionals, content creators, and power users who demand top-tier hardware to tackle intensive tasks effortlessly. If you're in the market for a high-end laptop that offers exceptional performance, the Dell XPS won't disappoint.

Ultra-portable sleek and sexy workhorse laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Dell XPS 13 13.4" FHD+ Laptop - 12th Gen Intel Evo i7 - 32GB Memory - Intel Iris Xe Graphics - 1TB SSD - Sky is an ultra-portable sleek and sexy workhorse laptop. With it's 12th gen Evo i7, 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD it's everything you need in a premium feeling device that is more the size of a tablet than a laptop. Windows 11 looks great on the 13.4 inch 1920 x 1200 16:10 aspect ratio screen. The screen is crisp, responsive and has a decent brightness range. The setup was very easy with Windows 11 and it feels quite solid. Note that the screen is not a touchscreen, which I thought was a little unusual. I did find myself reaching for the screen because I'm used to using a tablet. The Intel Iris Graphics will handle any regular application with ease. The 32 GB of ram allows for many applications to be open at one time without causing low memory issues. As far as gaming goes this laptop is able to handle some casual gaming and older 3D titles, but is not suitable for any game that requires a lot of 3D horsepower. I tried a few games to get a feel of how it would handle different games. Fortnite was not very playable even at the lowest settings, but Borderlands was playable. Games like the LEGO Batman style games seemed to run fine and Costume Quest ran great. Games like Minecraft or Terraria should run quite decent on this laptop. I do think Intel needs to step it up a couple notches with it's built-in graphics as this laptop definitely is aimed at the Macbook Air market and Apples new M2 chips have some pretty impressive 3D gaming capabilities from what I've seen. The laptop is super light and solid feeling. The keyboard is backlit and has a nice solid feel to it. The large trackpad is smooth and responsive. The stereo speakers on this laptop are actually quite good and have some decent volume. I was pretty impressed for a laptop this size. The built-in camera and mic work decent for video conferencing or video chatting. It would've been nicer to see a 1080p camera on this premium feeling laptop instead of the 720p. As far as ports go, there aren't many. 2 USB-C ports are all that come on this laptop, but based on it's size there isn't much room for many ports. You'll probably want to purchase a port extender with this if you need to use regular USB or SD cards. Battery life is quite good. You should be able to use this for non-gaming work without charging and on power save settings for 10+ hours with the screen at medium brightness. The USB-C charging port has a 45 watt adapter that comes with the laptop. The laptop supports facial recognition for logging into the laptop and also fingerprint scanning. You can also just use the normal PIN style authentication if you want to bypass using that. I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for an ultra-portable Windows device that will handle all-day day-to-day computing tasks on the go. It's as light as a tablet and about as thin, so it will fit easily into pretty much any backpack, purse or business style shoulder bag. I decided to give it 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 out of 5 due to the 720p camera and lack of a touchscreen.
