Purchased this machine for my wife, her needs are minimal, word, publisher web browsing. But I was surprised when I opened the box to set it up. The machine is sleek & well designed. I decided to throw a couple of photoshop apps on (Lightroom and photoshop). To my surprised it processed raw files from a Sony a7r4 as well as my 14” M1 Apple Mac Book pro. I was surprised. The bad is it gets very warm to the point I would not place this on my lap. Another issue is that the battery life is very sucks. All & all a great design Dell did a very good job.

Touchpad stopped working almost immediately but we had purchased this for college and were beyond the return window and he was leaving for school that week. Battery is useless... only holds charge for 1 or 2 hours. This laptop was one of the worst purchases we've ever made.

Hey There JenniferS, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for the battery performance issues you are experiencing with your Dell XPS 13 plus. It's important for us to hear about inconsistencies in our products for consideration of future development. Below I have provided steps with the full articles that can help you improve the battery performance of your laptop.
Here are the steps to help improve the battery performance of your laptop: 1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon. 2. On the options list, click Power Options. 3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built-in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.
a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver. b) If running Cortana, type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results. Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs. c) Turn the Battery Saver On or Off. d) Additional settings are available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links. e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage. f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further the Battery Saver feature.

Lightweight, highly portable yet powerful laptop

I was looking to replace a heavy laptop with something a bit more portable. I was leaning towards a tablet but this laptop is a much more powerful but lightweight option.
The laptop came well packed, with power supply, power cord, 60 Watt AC power adapter and a useful USB-C to USB-A v3.0 adapter. The power connection on the laptop is Thunderbolt 4
The documentation was sparse but included a QR code to the MyDell Mobile companion app which is helpful for first-time setup and getting the most out of the new laptop.
On starting up the XPS 13 Plus, I was easily able to set up Windows Hello for my profile, using the onboard camera to authenticate logins. Once I was done setting up a profile, I added my wife and then when she logged in with her Microsoft account, it let her set up her Windows Hello so that now if it is locked and one of us picks up the computer, it will scan our faces and then knows which profile to load. It’s a great feature and also a very secure way to protect a computer.
The laptop connected to our Wi-Fi 6 home network easily and was getting good connection speeds around the house. A speed test showed it was uploading and downloading close to the maximum available for the connection we pay for.
The OLED screen is very nice indeed! It is the first OLED screen we have had in the house but definitely hints at us going that way in the future. Although the 13.4” screen sounds small, it is not noticeably small and the definition of images on the screen was very sharp. We put some streaming services on the laptop and enjoyed the gorgeous 4K HDR images of various shows – it was really impressive and a great advertisement for OLED. It is a touch-screen which at times can be very useful although I always feel I need to wipe the screen down right after I touch it, taking away a bit of the novelty.
The screen has an anti-reflective finish which supposedly reduces eyestrain and widens the field of view. I can’t say either way if I notice that but the image does look good from the angles we view it together and is not harsh on the eyes.
The Thunderbolt ports on each side can draw power from the included AC adapter or provide power or video to attached devices. It definitely cuts down on the clutter of interfaces laptops have had over the years and probably keeps the laptop size and weight down too.
The Intel Iris Xe graphics are more than adequate for this type of laptop. Dell describe it as able to provide everyday image quality for Internet use, basic photo editing and casual gaming. It is also optimized to draw less power than it otherwise might. It may be a trade-off for real power users but for the rest of us, this is still a more than adequate laptop with great graphics response and images.
The 16GB RAM is what I would expect for any laptop running Windows 10 or 11 in this case. The XPS 13 Plus uses LPDDR5 RAM and so far, we have not seemed to tax it with our multiple browser tabs and video streaming.
The storage is a 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe solid state drive which runs fast and with no moving parts, should last a while and not generate much heat. I like the fast boot up times of SSDs and this one is no exception. 512GB is about the minimum I would want on a laptop. As this one is 512, it is more generous that we were expecting but still very welcome.
The 12th Gen. Intel Evo i7 processor does a great job and again, I am not sure we will ever tax it to its limit. Most users just want a system that will keep up with them and this one should stay ahead of our multi-taking usage for some time.
Saving the best until last, this laptop is so light and portable and I feel that is what makes it so popular in our household. My wife likes to pack it around and play her favorite shows in whatever room she is working in but also enjoys having it in her lap in the evenings, for casual browsing and online shopping. She is excited to take it on vacation later this year and is not worried about it being too heavy or cumbersome to pack around an airport.
It provides tablet convenience but with bonuses of a real, lit keyboard and the same operating system as we are used to at work and home.
I recommend this laptop as it provides a great blend of power and a very nice screen, especially for streaming and browsing.

The Dell XPS 13 Plus offers a powerful Intel i7 processor, a 512GB SSD drive and a generous 16GB of RAM all packaged in a VERY slim light-weight package. It boasts an excellent OLED 5k display that is bright and offers fully saturated colors. Battery life is good however the unit only offers two USB-C ports for external connectivity and you will be tying one of those up when you are charging.
I expected some trade-offs when you cram everything into such a small form factor but I was blown away by the Nx On Waves MaxxAudio Pro speakers system built into this tiny powerhouse. The sound quality exceeds much larger laptops that I own and I highly recommend you give them a listen.
However, the keyboard is a little disappointing. For me, the key travel is pretty shallow and there is very little differentiation between the keys so typing can be difficult. Also, you may find that you have to use the back light control key often as the key legends don't offer enough contrast to be legible! The incorporated click-pad can also be confusing as there are NO markings of any kind to indicate its location. A simple silkscreened outline or a textured area would have been very welcome.
Having said that, the laptop is still a nicely packaged collection of strong technology and its compact size and light weight means that it I will be using it on future airplane flights!

I am extremely impressed with the XPS-13 Plus. As soon as I turned it on and set it up, I was immediately greeted with a beautiful screen and image. The OLED screen is very pleasing to the eye especially when watching videos and scrolling through image galleries.
Aesthetically, it gets a 10 out of 10 rating. Not only is the screen beautiful, the design is very sleek. Functionality wise, the laptop has a few unique features I've never seen before but am loving.
First of all, there is no visible track pad. The track pad is hidden underneath glass and is very responsive. I didn't really have to get use to it because it functions like a normal track pad. You can still get the clicky response when right or left clicking and it is like second nature to hit the correct button.
Secondly, there are no physical function keys. The function keys are now illuminated on the top of the laptop keyboard and are capacitive. They are also very responsive and I actually love this change.
Thirdly, the keyboard itself has very little gaps in between the keys. I had no trouble typing at my normal typing speed and I even score higher than on a normal keyboard. I do however have small hands and fingers so it may be a different experience with someone who has bigger hands.
The XPS Plus performance is top notch. Intel's 12th gen core i7 chip is phenomenal. It is so easy to get work done without waiting for programs to load or images to render at high speeds. With 16gb of RAM, I never had to worry about having too many programs open and running at the same time. Doing processor heavy tasks like editing video felt like a breeze with this laptop.
One more thing I have to mention is how great the speakers are on the XPS 13 Plus. It is by far the best listening experience I have ever had on a laptop. The sound is clear, crisp, and can get very loud without distortion. Watching movies, tv shows, or listening to music without connecting the headphones is actually doable/bearable on this laptop.
If I had any negative things to say about the XPS 13 Plus it would be that there are only 2 thunderbolt 4 ports on it. Connecting any external devices would require adapters or dongles. A headphones jack and USB A dongle did come in the box which is nice but you may have to invest in a multiport dock if you plan on connecting this to an external monitor or plugging in any external devices.
Overall, this is the best laptop I have ever owned and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade or buying as a gift. Performance is top notch, design is beautiful, sound is phenomenal, and the screen will speak for itself.

Dell continues to improve

Out of the box, this Dell feels very well built from the cool aluminum chassis to what they have done to lighten the weight of the laptop from previous XPS series machines. The machine weighs in at just under 3lbs, making it very light and versatile. First thoughts are wow, this is light, “really going to enjoy carrying this around”. Following the current formula for industry, the edge to edge display makes you feel very comfortable and doesn’t feel like you have limited screen real estate. The OLED display is amazingly crisp and clear at 3.5K. One thing to note, this system not exactly designed for gaming, but with enough adjustments, one can get some descent game play on this machine. Graphics designed, photo editing and management; this is what you want. There is a self-illuminating touch row/bar that easily switches between function (F-keys) and media modes by using the “FN” key. This is good and bad depending on the amount of use on the “FUNCTION” keys, but keep in mind you do not have to worry about them changing places on you. Very easy to remember and recall. The backlit keyboard is genuinely nice and smooth to type with, having slightly larger keys to take advantage of the edge to edge design. With the soft-touch, lower travel feeling it makes typing a breeze and fun. The touchpad is blended into the palm rest area to give a more sleek look and provides feedback when in use; ultimate precision and response. At the machine’s optimized setting and even lower, it stays fairly cool with very limited fan noise. When set to performance and working the system, you do get some noticeable fan noise, but what is more noticeable is the how warm the machine is to the touch. Having the aluminum chassis does help with keeping the heat moving away faster and the larger fans and cooling ports really help to keep the unit cool during the higher performance modes. The two thunderbolt ports provided are fully functional in which they can be used for everything using the included adapter USB A-C and if you need a headphone port, using the USB-C to headphones adapter.

If you are considering this laptop, you should know that you are getting a slimmed down version without a lot of extras. I think the whole point is to give you something that is very mobility-friendly with a low profile and is light-weight. However, I will mention some of the missing features that you should know about before you buy.
There are 2 ports. Both are Type C. One is to charge the laptop and the other is to plug in any peripherals. I like using a mouse, so that’s what I plugged into that extra port. If you really need another port, you can buy a splitter. I have one that is a Type C and a Type A (regular USB). However, the laptop does come with an adapter, so you can plug in the adapter and change one of the Type C ports into a regular Type A.
There are no other ports at all on the entire laptop; no Ethernet, no HDMI, no earphone, no DVD/CD drive, no SD card reader. All of those items can be purchased as adapters and there are plenty of splitters and hubs available on the market if you really need more ports. The laptop does come with an earphone adapter, though, so you can make your extra Type C port into an earjack port.
As I mentioned above, this laptop is lightweight with a slim profile. It would be ideal as a mobile laptop. The keyboard is backlit and you have two different levels of brightness you can choose from. It has a touch screen and the bottom 1/3 of the keyboard works as both a wrist rest and a touchpad. The touchpad is hidden, but it is about the same size as a normal touch pad and is located below the space bar. The keyboard keys are very large and easy to type with. There is no number keypad, but that’s to be expected due to the narrower size of the laptop. The top row of the keyboard is not buttons; instead it is a capacitive row. I wish the Esc and Del keys were actual buttons because I use them more often and the capacitive row is hard to get used to, but one feature I liked was that if you press the Fn key, the capacitive row changes to a Function row. However, you have to memorize how each Fn button works, because there is no text except for F1, F2, etc. Also, this row’s backlighting is always on and if you are watching a movie in a darkened room, the top row light can be annoying. Be prepared to cover it with something. A feature I like is that you can have multiple desktops. I can set up 1 for home and 1 for work. Also, you can have 1 for each family member if you share the laptop at home. I set up 4 different desktops just to test it out and it was great.
Software: It comes with Windows 11 Home which I was not used to. I don’t like the smaller size of the Start Window. It can only hold a few program icons before you have to scroll to a new screen for more. This is a disappointment for me. The program menu is not on the left side. You have to click on the “All Apps” button to see the program menu. The icons are not sizeable, they default to an icon with writing under it, and the window cannot be enlarged. In fact, it cannot be moved at all, yet it sits in the middle of the laptop screen with a LOT of wasted space on both sides of it, and I wonder what they were thinking when Microsoft came up with this idea. I also dislike how Microsoft always tries to force you to use their products and this laptop is no exception. When I browsed to find the Firefox download on the internet, the screen told me that I did not need Firefox and that I already had the best browser recommended. However, if I scrolled down, it did have the Firefox browser download below that. Microsoft Edge and Bing kept popping up so I had to remove them from my task bar and I also removed them from my start menu, keeping them only in the program menu. It comes with a Microsoft 365 30 day trial package of Word, Excel, etc. It also comes with McAfee LiveSafe 12 Month Subscription.
I am happy with the speed of changing from one screen to another and opening new programs. Also, the screen looks great and the speakers sound good too. I do a lot of photography work and I’ve had my share of problems with less than desirable screens. I do require a very good screen for my photography. This laptop’s screen looks very good to me. My photos are bright and clear without any discoloration, muddiness, or noticeable pixels. I streamed a movie and the sound quality was good as was the screen resolution during streaming. I also played a couple of different kinds of games on the laptop and had no complaints. The battery life is mediocre, but that’s not an issue for me. I do most of my work next to a plug, so I can easily charge my laptop as I use it.
