This was my first experience with Dell XPS 13. I was overjoyed that I was finally able to afford this premium laptop. I loved the display, the design, the invisivle trackpad, even the capacitive touchbar and the lack of ports (which a lot of people see as cons). I was willing to overlook these "cons". The keyboard design is stunning and feels really good! The 3.5k OLED display is phenomenal! But yet, today I had to return it, because it just gets really hot, even with normal use (a few Chrome tabs open, youtube, MS word, all together). This is my normal use. On battery, I had it set on Battery Efficient use and the Dell Performance settings to Cool or Optimal at times. It was too hot to have it in my lap. My palms were sweating while using it because the top surface was warm. The fan is not noisy, but not enough to cool the laptop. I didn't see any throttling issues with it being hot, but it was just not comfortable to use anymore. I could use it on the table top, plugged in, but then I was worried about running into throttling issues, since so many others had reported. This was Open Box, but in excellent condition (per Best Buy). I checked a shelf model in the store as well, but it was also really hot from the bottom, compared to Dell XPS 13 FHD. A bit heart broken. I really wanted Dell XPS 13.

I bought an open-box (Excellent). The machine worked pretty great right and looked almost new. I have been using the laptop for about 8-9 months for school - for class and such. As a laptop it's great, and I love it. (PS - I recently dropped the laptop with the USB connected and damaged it, so I only have one working port for charging which does make me nervous. However, this was my fault.)

The Dell XPS Plus 9320 is my first XPS machine from Dell, and it has lived up to its reputation for being premium, powerful, light, and elegantly designed. With a 12th-gen Intel Core i7 1260P processor, 16GB of DDR5 memory, and a speedy NVME hard drive, the machine can handle everything I throw at it with aplomb. The 13.4” 3456x2160 OLED display is gorgeous, bright, and very sharp with its 288 dpi. The keyboard is wonderfully tactile and well-dampened, and the huge touchpad area is fantastic and very responsive. Although I’m missing USB-A ports, dongles are included with the laptop, and the USB-C ports are at least Thunderbolt 4. The XPS Plus costs a pretty penny but if you got the coin for it, it’s a wonderful Windows 11 machine that is highly performant, pretty to look at, and easy to live with. _____ *Pros: -Pretty and attractive minimalist design with excellent fit and finish with first-rate build materials. -Slim, compact, and very light. -Gorgeous 3.5K OLED display with minimal bezel that’s very crisp, evenly lit, and bright. -Fantastic performance from the Intel Evo platform. -Nice keyboard with good travel and feedback. -Quiet operation with low fan noise. -USB-C ports support PD 3.0, Thunderbolt 4, and DisplayPort 1.4. -Supports Windows Hello facial recognition and fingerprint authentication. _____ *Neutral: -The top “touchbar” lighting is always on and sometimes distracting. -The Up and Down arrow keys are half-sized. -Despite being Intel Evo-certified, the battery life isn’t as good as expected. -I still like the UI of Windows 10 better. _____ *Cons: -No USB-A and AUX ports. === Design and Build Quality === The XPS Plus 9320 is visually striking and a delight to look at and touch. Even with the lid closed, you can tell it’s a premium-class device due to its metal build, slimness, and first-rate fit-and-finish. Open the lid and the delight continues, with an almost bezel-free display design, a keyboard with keys that are extra big and flush to the palm rest area, and the “invisible” touchpad located in the middle of the deck topped with soft-touch and smooth frosted glass. The keyboard is edge-to-edge and it looks minimalist, modern, and futuristic. Above the row of number keys is a capacitive touch “touchbar” that provides common system shortcuts such as media volume control and screen brightness as well as the ESC, PRT SC, HOME, END, INSERT, and DELETE functions. By pressing and holding the FN key, the touchbar row changes to the Function keys which is slick in operation and look. There is no squeaky flex on the keyboard or palm rest areas, and the hinge has the perfect level of resistance and sturdiness with no wobbles while still enabling one-finger operation. The XPS Plus 9320 is the most attractive laptop I’ve ever owned, and I love it. === Performance === My XPS Plus is configured with a 12th-gen Core i7 1260P (12 cores, 16 threads), 16GB of DDR5 memory, and a Western Digital 512GB PCIE 4.0 NVME hard drive, and the performance is absolutely great. I can do everything on the 9320 except for heavy gaming, such as video transcoding, video editing, multi-browser multi-tasking (Chrome and Edge with about 30 tabs between them), Excel and Word processing, and video and audio streaming. Bootup time is short and fast, and the machine quickly wakes up from sleep and hibernation modes, no doubt thanks to the PCIE 4.0 NVME drive. Even with the 9320 heavily loaded in its default Balanced power mode, the system runs quiet thanks to its efficient fans. The chassis does a good job dissipating the heat and keeping the keyboard area nice and cool but I wouldn’t rest the laptop on my lap. Instead, I recommend keeping the 9320 propped up a couple of inches off the table using a laptop stand. In terms of performance and usability, I cannot fault the XPS Plus 9320 at all – it’s solid. === Keyboard and Touchpad === I spend a lot of time typing up stuff so I was glad to discover the keyboard to be well-dampened, the keys spaced apart properly and comfortably, and for the keys to have good travel with a nice amount of spring-back resistance. Since the keys are flat and flush, it took me a while to get used to the new-to-me layout and feel. Once I got the hang of it, I was able to reach my normal laptop typing speed of 98wpm. There are some aspects I’m still getting used to and find slightly annoying, and they’re the half-sized Up and Down arrow areas and the capacitive buttons on the top row. Because the Up and Down keys are so skinny, it takes me longer to feel for them when using them without looking. And although the always lit-up “touchbar” looks futuristic and cool, they can become distracting when watching media in a dark room. As well, I miss the tactile sensation of pressing the ESC and DELETE buttons. Unlike for the keyboard, I have no issues with the Microsoft Precision touchpad. The frosted glass surface is buttery smooth and feels very nice when gliding your fingers across it. It’s also very responsive and easy to use. === Audio & Network === The audio is surprisingly good for a laptop, especially one as slim and compact as the XPS Plus 9320. The bass is punchy and the soundstage is well-covered. I experienced no issues with the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. My earbuds and mice formed a solid and reliable connection and never lagged or got dropped. Ditto for my home Wi-Fi network which runs on a 100Mbps Spectrum connection and the 3-point Google Nest Wi-Fi router. === Battery life === After seeing the Intel Evo sticker on the palm rest, I expected super-long battery life but I was left a bit disappointed. With the screen brightness at around 80%, my two browsers open with about 30 tabs, and music streaming in the background, I lost 70% battery life in about 1 & ½ hours. I’m not a student so I don’t have to worry about all-day battery but I would’ve liked to see at least 4-5 hours of battery with max screen brightness. === Is it a good buy? === If you got the coin for it and you’re okay with the dock and dongle life, then the XPS Plus 9320 is a good choice for those who want fast performance in a gorgeously crafted package of metal and glass. It’s quite a looker, very performant, and very light and portable. Due to Dell pushing the envelope in certain design areas, such as the capacitive touchbar, invisible touchpad, and flush keyboard, you’ll probably need some adjustment time but they’re not deal-breakers. I give the XPS Plus 9320 4.5 Stars.

Had over a month now and definitely recommend it! Love that there are no huge gaps between the keys, perfect for smaller hands, the keys are backlit, the sleek design makes it easy to take anywhere. Many reviews mention the battery life as a con but honestly have not experienced a reason to be on my computer for more than 6-8 hours so no complaints here.

Solid Laptop Held Back By Lack of I/O Ports

The Dell XPS 13 Plus Model 9320 laptop is a tiny laptop with one heck of a pretty display. I’ve had the laptop for a week now and I have enjoyed it. For a student or a professional on the go, the 9320 I tested was great for typing, watching videos, or conferencing. The 9320 has a very polished design. I wish it had more ports beyond the two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports. But, overall, I still really liked this laptop. Unboxing: For reference, my laptop is the i7-1260 with 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 13.4” OLED display. Inside the box, you will find the laptop, the power adapter, a power cord, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, and a USB-C to 3.5MM adapter. The laptop has no buttons or ports beyond the keyboard and the two USB-C ports. You should know, one of those USB-C ports will be needed to plug-in and charge the laptop. So, when plugged in, you only have one USB-C port. Experience: Speaking of a lack of buttons, it did take me a few minutes to figure out where the power button is. It’s located on the top right side of the keyboard. It’s a blank key next to the backspace key. That key also doubles as a fingerprint reader. I was surprised at how heavy this laptop is out of the box. I guess I expected something a bit lighter. It’s not too heavy, by any means, but this isn’t super light, either. Setup took all of 45 minutes. After initial Windows setup and account sign-ins, you have the updates. And this laptop, had many updates from both Windows Update and the Dell Experience. Be sure to look for the Dell driver updates as many of those could be critical for your experience. So far, I have had no crashes or screen problems. Everything looks crisp. I turned on HDR in the display settings and movies on the laptop look and sound great. The built-in speakers are louder than I thought they would be. I really like the keyboard. I like how it lights up and I like the always on function bar at the top of the keyboard. The trackpad blends into the casing and everything just looks amazing. This is one polished looking laptop. Because there is only one USB-C port while charging, you are likely going to want to use Bluetooth mice. If you want to hook the laptop up to a wired network, you will need a USB-C to LAN adapter. You can wirelessly mirror your screen, but if you need to hook the laptop up with a cable, you will need a USB-C to HDMI cable / adapter. There is a fan noise on the laptop during intensive operations, but it never gets too loud. Speaking of fans and noise, the bottom of the laptop can get hot during operation. It was never too hot in my use, but it was warm enough that I wanted to put the laptop back on a table. Battery life has been a bit of a mixed bag. It took me about two and a half hours to charge the battery from around 25%. Just browsing the web and typing this review, I used ten percent of my battery in fifteen minutes. I don’t feel like typing a document in Word should drain a battery that much, but this could be a side effect of having this wonderful screen, too. But again, battery usage depends on what you have running in the background. My experience was that I got around two hours plus on a charge. The Intel Iris Xe graphics is adequate. If you’re hoping this will be your next gaming laptop, I may have to burst your bubble. This isn’t a gaming laptop. You might be able to play some non-intensive games at 1080P, but don’t expect much. During my benchmarks, games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V scored less than 30FPS. Something like the SIMS or DOTA 2 might perform much better. Conclusion: But this isn’t a gaming computer. What it is, is a small, yet beautiful 13” laptop. It performs well enough. My biggest complaint against the laptop is the mediocre battery life and the lack of any kind of peripheral ports. I would kill for two USB-A ports and a dedicated power adapter port. I just feel like the USB-C to USB-A adapter is a bit ridiculous. It looks awkward. Most people still use USB-A flash drives and accessories. The USB-A adapter is just something else that can get lose or misplaced. But, if you can overlook the lack of ports or are set on getting a hub or docking station, I think this is a solid little laptop. Recommended 4.5/5

I purchased this laptop for about $1300, this laptop has serve heating issues. Just normal browsing result in lot of heat forget about playing games or using it for other purposes like photoshop. I was planning to return but my return period is off. I will not at all recommend this laptop. One good thing about the laptop is its design looks so good, display is very good. But again its trackpad is not user’s friendly.

First Gen idea w/ poor implementation will not fly

First-off I want to be clear. I love new tech and like Best buy., doesn't matter the brand or ecosystem but truly appreciate a good implementation of good idea. This one is NOT. Started-off good with updates , followed by thermal throttling, excessive heat, always ON fan, speakers popping to name a few, all on same day. I was truly hoping that this will replace my MBP or Surface device but was I wrong!! 3rd day speakers and mic stopped working just before a zoom call. Did more "updates' of BIOS, Device Mgrs etc per Dell support..but in vain. Did a fresh install of W11 which worked fine for 10 mins then led to 3 BSOD's and 2 BlkSOD's in a span of 15 minutes (all while watching unrelated Ytube). I don't know if its QA or what, but my device was NOT a lemon (I think) as some have gotten. It worked well during the 2-day honeymoon phase and not after that. I'm very disappointed as I was truly hoping that this will be good and replace my existing units but there might be more issues coming down the path (just as many avoided R.z.r..sorry). Many updates and tinkering is needed for this to be a primary portable (less powerful) daily driver, I will keep trying to make this work but will be mindful to recommend this today. Keyboard/touchpad can get used to of but that's a minor issue.

      Hello Sidh,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologize for all the issues you have come across with your new Dell XPS 9320 computer because it is overheating, the speakers are not working, and you experienced blue screen errors.

To help with overheating issue, Dell has released an Intel Power Management Utility to help with the overheating that you may be experiencing on your computer. For this package to take effect, the system power plan must be set to Balanced under the Additional Power Settings. Also, the Power Mode option that is displayed when you click the battery icon, should be set to Better Performance. This package only takes effect on AC power and not on battery power. The Intel Power Management Utility can be found here - http://dell.to/3tStRgX.

Below I have provided the steps to run the Microsoft Sound Troubleshooter, which should help with audio issues. I have also included the full article link that has more options if they are needed.

How to run the Windows Sound Troubleshooter in Microsoft Windows 10
      1. Click Start, and then select Settings (gear icon).
      2. Click Update & Security and select Troubleshoot.

This is my first experience with a small form factor laptop in quite some time. Normally when looking for a laptop, I feel that bigger is better. Bigger screen, more room for my fingers to roam on the keyboard, better components, and better battery life. All important characteristics when picking a computer. However as of late, I have found myself looking for portability. I purchased a Microsoft Surface for by business to take to client sites, however I was left wanting. Now that I have had a chance to dance with the DELL XPS, I may have found my new go-to travel computer. First impression is that this computer isn't much bigger than my cell phone. Ok ok, that may be a slight exaggeration. Its about 4 times bigger than my cell phone. But you know what...its the perfect size. I can see the screen without issue, I can type without error, and I can take it anywhere! Speaking of seeing the screen...WOW. This OLED touch screen is amazing. Everything looks so crisp and clear! Viewing angle is nearly 180* and quite vivid throughout the spectrum. On top of that, the touch screen is intuitive and responsive. There are no complaints when it comes to the screen. Performance on this laptop is rather tricky. And by tricky, I mean my seat-of-the-pants impression is that this computer is the pace car, setting the bar for other laptops to chase. The 12th gen i7 and 16gb of memory put in work. But when I bench mark this laptop, its test in the middle of the road and below other similar made laptops I have tested. This confuses me as everything just feels so much more...crisp. See attached benchmark. The only complaint I have about this laptop is its SEVERE lack of ports. You have two usb-c ports that are used to charge the laptop as well as adapters used to convert the USB-C to other form factors. But it appears that you are limited to USB-C due to the frame size of this computer. If you are in the market for a high end portable laptop, I would give the DELL XPS a serious look. It may very well fit your needs!

The perfect lgtweight laptop you’ve been waiting 4

If you’re looking for a portable laptop that is powerful and stylish, yes, a stylish PC - look no further! From the moment I opened the box, and all through the setup process, I found many design elements that I liked a lot with this laptop. I’ll go through a few of these later in the review. Unboxing and included accessories: The packaging is simple, it came in a box that, well, looks a bit like a restaurant takeout container. Inside the takeout box, the laptop itself was wrapped in a thin cloth bag to prevent it from getting scratched up. Simple, but effective. Included are 2 USB-C adapters: USB-C to standard USB and USB-C to headphone audio jack. Also included is a fairly compact power supply. I like to small size, as I will be carrying this on a bus commute to work. Living with the Dell for 1 week: The first thing I noticed is the clean design, it’s very simple and sleek looking. With just 2 USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports, you’ll need the adapters it came with and maybe even a small USB-C dock. The docks are relatively inexpensive these days. If you get one, make sure it has power delivery as well. The difference between Thunderbolt 4 is an improvement over the 3, with the 4, you can daisy chain 2 4k monitors or support a single 8K monitor. Data transfer speeds is improved, up to 3,000 megabytes per second! Once I opened the lid, I noticed a few things that are different from other laptops. First thing you may notice is there isn’t an outline of the mouse touchpad! Instead, you move your finger where the touchpad normally is and it works the same, it’s like magic! The second thing I noticed is that there aren’t any physical function buttons. Instead, there’s a strip of virtual buttons on top of the numbers, where the traditional function buttons are. Using the “fn” button, you can toggle between function and the computer function buttons such as volume +/-, screen brightness +/-, keyboard backlight settings (off/low/high) and a few other functions. These worked fine for me, I know some people prefer physical buttons. The third thing I noticed is the keyboard, it’s so clean looking! All the buttons are square, so there’s little gap between the keys, it gives it a better look than the traditional keyboards. When you put these design elements together, the laptop has a really nice, clean and even futuristic look about it. To turn on the laptop, the power button is to the right of the backspace button. This power button doubles as a fingerprint reader as well. Very clever, but the button is not labeled with any marking. I suppose once you know it’s there, you wouldn’t likely forget. After installing the usual programs, I need, I was off. The i7 processor opened all the programs I loaded with ease. I mainly use office applications, I threw in a F1 driving game just to try out. It worked fine with the Intel integrated graphics chip. The only thing is the laptop got very warm, this happens when I’m using standard office applications as well. I’m guessing from the small size of the laptop, the processor ends up using the metal case as a big heat sink. There are some vent slots on the bottom left and right, I don’t feel any air coming out from there, so not sure if there’s a fan inside. I found this laptop the be very capable to handle all my office and some entertainment needs. With the Microsoft app store, I added a few streaming service apps. So I was able to test by watching a few shows on Disney+, Netflix and Youtube. I was pleasantly surprised by how great the speakers sound! I expected them to be tinny and not very good, given the size of a laptop. After using this for a week, I think the biggest weakness is the battery life. It’s possible if you were to compare to similar laptops of similar size and weight, the battery life is probably acceptable. But it may be a deal breaker for some users. I’m plugged in most of the time, so it’s not a big concern for me. Conclusion: This is the cleanest, most well designed laptop I’ve ever used…including my MacBook’s! I never thought I’d say that (sorry Apple). I love the way it looks, it’s beautiful! I’ve already had a few colleagues ask me about it. Pros: 1. Clean design 2. Lightweight 3. Powerful enough for all my tasks 4. Excellent sound quality Cons: 1. Gets warm, may not be comfortable to actually use on your lap! 2. Battery life 3. 2 ports

A Compact, Powerful & High Quality Laptop

The XPS 13 Plus laptop is the newest 13 inch model from Dell and it is excellent. The specifications are incredible for such a small portable computer. This laptop packs a 12th Gen i7-1260P processor (up to 4.7 GHz, 12 cores), a 13.4” 3.5K OLED display, 16 GB memory and a 512GB SSD, making this a very responsive computer with a beautiful display. Thanks to the Intel Iris Xe graphics card and the OLED 3.5K display, the image is spectacularly clear and bright. I’m looking forward to bringing this on trips so that I can watch movies and play games on it while traveling. The laptop features stereo speakers and they sound good with a noticeable stereo effect, particularly for the size. The speakers have a balanced frequency response, with plenty of bass, mid and treble. There’s a 720p webcam above the display that works as both a camera and for face recognition. It works well for logging in with your face, it’s worked perfectly every time. The camera quality is decent. There’s only two ports, two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), and although I'd prefer more, I’ll allow it, especially since Dell offers a USB-C Mobile Adapter. Also keep in mind that this laptop uses one of those ports for charging, so while charging, you really only have one port available, but a lot of devices use Bluetooth these days, which might work as an alternative. Also, since there’s no 3.5mm headphone output, you’ll be using the USB-C port for that if you’re using a wired headset, meaning that if you’re charging and using a wired headset at the same time, you won’t have any available ports. The laptop does include a 3.5mm adapter and a USB-C to USB-A (3.0) adapter. The keyboard feels nice, responsive and is backlit. The top row lights up, and uses the lights to show either F1-12 or the alternative buttons. There’s also a fingerprint reader for those who want that extra layer of security. The touchpad works wonderfully, but there’s no visible edge, so your finger might keep going at times. The battery life seems fine. I use it mostly for web-browsing and YouTube, and it lasted around 6 - 7 hours before it was down to roughly 25%. A charger is included, and it’s the universal type that you can use anywhere in the world. The cable is nice and long too. I enjoy the design of the XPS 13 Plus. It’s razor thin, measuring about half an inch tall. It’s a little less than 12 inches wide and 8 inches deep, making it a perfect choice for airports, airplanes, trains and hotel rooms. Just don’t forget a wireless headset, since you probably want to have at least one port open for maybe an external drive, mouse, controller, webcam or microphone. Especially if you’re planning on playing games on it. I tried installing Trials Rising on it, and it played fine after a few tweaks in the settings. The game prioritized resolution, while I prefer a smooth frame-rate. My conclusion is that this is how a 13 inch laptop should be. A powerful processor mixed with a beautiful display. It is a terrific choice for those that are not just looking for a compact laptop, but also one with great specs. Dell is a trusted brand that I’ve had great experience with over the years, so I have no reason to not recommend this laptop. I hope you enjoy it.

    My New Favorite Notebook

I don’t even know where to start! This is my first XPS and I’m completely blown away. This notebook has a pleasure to use from the first moment I fired it up. From the OLED 4k panel to the invisible mousepad, to the blazing fast 12 core/16 thread Intel I7 1260P. Dell has clearly been paying attention to the competition! The keyboard feel is a bit reminiscent of a different high-end fruit flavored keyboard, flat profile, but with a no-gap key layout and similar low travel distance. It still manages to provide a snappy and satisfying experience. After a day of typing, I’m finding this to be one of the most pleasant ultrabook keyboards I’ve used in a long time. I expected very little of the capacitive touch bar… I was delightfully surprised! It’s functional and easy to use – even though a bit unnecessary from a use perspective. If you’re like me and need to regularly use F keys, keep in mind that there isn’t a function lock key. You’ll have to always hold down the Fn key to access F keys on the capacitive touch bar. I’ve been using ultrabooks exclusively for some time. It would be nice to have at least one USB A port, but I don’t find it’s absence that troubling for a high end thin and light notebook. If you want all the ports under the sun without using a dock look elsewhere. I plan on looking into getting another one for the office to replace an aging Surface Laptop 3. This is an absolute gem – with both style, performance and all the right features.
